The Belial Origins is a blockbuster package of answers to all of the questions that previous books have led you towards (kicking and screaming)!
Origins is such an integral title as this book covers mysteries about each character's beginnings; deep, mystical possibilities about how and when Humanity began and even explores the "truth" about the war in heaven.
Your heart will pound as the pace of the action literally blurs before your eyes. R. D. Brady likes to surprise her readers, so don't feel bad if you have to put the book down to get your breath back.
I can't imagine what is to follow after this action-packed book. But you can surely believe I will be reading it tomorrow.
I just finished reading "The Belial Origins, which means that I have read all six books in four days. Believe me when I say "You just can't put them down." Really read them!
Almost DNF. Nothing personal, just not my usual genre and after 6 books, it felt a bit repetitive and I’m just not a fan of the writing style. I think I’ll take a break from this series and perhaps pick it back up for book 7 another time.
An enjoyable fantasy, adventure and thriller book. Like the previous book in this series, and unlike the first couple of books, there is no pretence to keep the presence of various good and evil supernatural powers a mystery any more. Angels, both good ones and fallen ones roam the earth and biblical personas and references abound. Naturally said personas and references are embellished quite a lot.
In general it is a good book. The familiar faces from previous instalments are back and we do finally get to know Victoria’s secret even though the road to there is a somewhat bumpy one. The author have built an interesting story around Victoria (whose name is really not Victoria but a more biblical one) and the entire biblical story of creation although I have to say that for some parts I found it a bit convoluted. In particular I was not too keen on the parts where Victoria had split up with her former partner due to differences of opinions and the bla bla about equality etc. etc. Felt like a cheap attempt to surf on popular politically correct opinions.
There is quite a bit of action in the book and not so much slow investigative work. The book runs pretty much full steam ahead to the grand finale which of course is not only the revelation of Victoria’s secrets but also the usual combat between good and evil and, as the book blurb indicates, sacrifices will be made. Most of the time we follow either Delaney or Victoria. The latter who rather early in the book ends up in somewhat of a predicament. The book pretty much closes the main story arc that we have been following since the first book in the series although it does not really close The Belial Series as a whole if one should judge from the actual ending as well as the author’s comments.
As I wrote, this is a good fantasy, adventure and thriller book. Perhaps not wow-great in my opinion but definitely above average and well worth reading. I am certainly interested to see where the author goes with this material now.
This review is more for the series to this point, rather than this particular book.
It's a fast paced series, lots of action and enough drama and pathos to keep you interested. I'm an agnostic so the religious aspects of the series weren't really what I had hoped for, but I did enjoy very much the author's exploration of Bible contradictions and controversy.
I was slightly disappointed, since the first couple of books had been focused on Atlantis, that more focus on Atlantis wasn't pursued and it turned out to be only a side-bar to the fallen angel plot because the Atlantis and ancient archeology themes were what caught my interest with the series and I wish they had been explored by the author's imagination a little more thoroughly.
Overall though, this was probably the best series I've read in a long while and I really enjoyed it, but I admit I've had enough of the series after this, the sixth book, and don't intend to go on the the seventh.
Quite possibly the best book in the series as finally we start to get answers as to just how everyone in the cast fits into everything.
Perhaps a bit too much ancient religion in places, and perhaps a touch too far fetched in places, but that would have been pretty much unavoidable given the way the story goes, and that final character reveal.
More logical, and better paced than the previous book. The characters no longer spend so much time standing around soul searching but get on with it, and there's a lot of 'it' for them to be getting on with. Not that that is a bad thing obviously.
All in all, a good rounded out ending - if you ignore the epilogue which is little more than a trailer for the next book - and as usual the author's explanations of what was fact and what is fiction make a very informative addition.
Best book of the series. Congratulations to R.D.Brady on a super series with great characters and very interesting background info. Glad to get the real story behind Victoria's past. Hope to read more about Laney and friends real soon.
I just finished The Belial Origins (sixth in the series). I have to say that this series has captivated me from the beginning. The mix of action, ideas, characters and plot are just amazing. I’ve read many books and find these to be as good as those of my favorite authors. The ethical issues dealt with are heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. The research done by the author is impeccable. The story itself makes me crave the next book. I heartily recommend the Belial series to fans of Dan Brown , Jim Butcher, or similar authors. Thank you, Ms. Brady, for sharing this story and these characters with us!
I am amazed as each Belial book surpasses the previous one as the entirety of the story line continues to build. Belial Origins is even more suspenseful with even more new surprises. People who enjoy the mystical along with those who love intrigue will love these books.
There isn't much we know about Lilith. This book is actually just the 3rd time I came across her. Bringing her to life in this storyline was a wonderful idea. Storyline picked up again, after a so, so previous chapter. I'm interested again in what happens next.
It's hard to read against what I've believed all my life, about Adam and Eve and God and the tree of Knowledge, but it's also interesting to imagine another story about them all. It's doesn't make me believe any differently, so to me, this series is a good read.
This series is like the energized bunny it just keeps going, but also growing. Never a dull moment and so engaging you do not want it to end, but also you need to know how it does. Already got the next one.
I love the way the author weaves fact and fiction into this series and at the end gives short explanations of the factual parts for further exploration by the reader, if they choose.
Brady never leaves you satisfied because you always want to keep reading more. I can’t wait for her next book. The plot and characters are masterpieces.
Many questions are answered in this book and though I’m looking forward to continuing the series, I was left feeling satisfied. This book was more emotional than the previous ones. And the epilogue…
Every book in this series has been enthralling. I just wish they would come faster. I know RD Brady must get brain fried writing on the same characters, etc but your fans don't. Please keep them coming.
The series gets more and more interesting with every book. Yet usually at the end the story finishes too suddenly and too fast. And Belial Origins are no different.
The previous books often had a cliffhanger of some sort, which was fine. But BO is different. And up to about 90% of the book it seems there would really be a great finale this time. Sadly, that is not the case. Again, R.D. seems to have difficulties with keeping it for a while longer, making reader think "whoa, that was it!". Instead, the end just happens, in a span of bunch of short chapters and that's it.
Still, BO is one of the best books in the series so far for me and definitely worth the time. As actually whole Belial Series is.
At first I wasn't going to do another review on this series after reviewing the first five, but my enthusiasm for the book got the better of me. I especially enjoyed learning more about Ralph and Victoria and little Max. I also appreciated less, as I refer to it, Kung Fu Fighting and more about the characters relationships. My only quibble is Drake Diablo as an archangel. Really? Was making him a jerk necessary? A nice touch in the epilogue. Another home run for the author.
Book 6 in this series provides some answers to questions about people and events in the previous books. I have not had to deal with so many archangels and fallen angels, and 'would-be angels' since Bible History class back in grade school. There is a lot of action, all leading up to a major confrontation. The fate of mankind is on the line as Laney McPhearson and her friends try to contain the efforts of the fallen angels and their human helpers. This one is easily 4 stars, maybe 4.5.
Just like every other book in this series, I couldn't put this book down once cracking it open. Full of action and intrigue. It's not difficult to see where the story is going through effective foreshadowing. But, the route taken always keeps you interested.
I love the series. I'm hooked on following the characters. The books are are quick, fun reads. My only criticism is the poor copy editing. There are so many word omissions, grammatical errors, etc! In this most recent book one of the characters, albeit a minor role, is called both Kaya and Kyra in different places in the book! The devil is in the details, not the Fallen.
I loved this installment the most. Completely exciting and wondering what was around the corner. I was a bit let down that it ended without going back to Laney, yet finding out a few pages later, more books are on their way. Love it. Way to go R.D.! Can't wait for the next story...
It was a good book with lots of interesting factual information. Like previous books of the series, it takes you on a ride, you get lost in the story, you feel the pain and shed tears. You are involved throughout the whole story.
I usually avoid series because I get bored. Except for one slow moving book, this series was worth reading. I love it when an author takes history and sews that in. It makes things much more interested.
I've become invested in these characters through the series. Let's just say, the last chapter brought tears to my eyes. I can hardly wait for the next installment in November. Thank you, R. D. Brady, for an excellent read (and for the epilogue).
