Not my favorite of the series. Maddie was OTT exasperating, particularly after Liam freaked out on her - although he did so following a pretty disgusting incident for which he’d obvi not been prepared, nor could he have been. Also, despite him immediately apologizing and attempting to remedy the situation, Maddie dug her heels in and froze him out for weeks. She also refused to cut him any slack when he reacted in a very Liam way to additional news/incidents, and therein lies my greatest issue with Maddie: she’s supposedly a talented writer and insightful interviewer but she’s wicked slow to the party in putting together the puzzle that is Liam’s approach to life.
Finally, I didn’t really feel the connection between them from the start. And for fuck’s sake, the Major Plot Point Which Shall Not Be Named Because Here Be Spoilers - it’s the “surprise” trope I hate a lot - it was better handled in Orla’s book, but just barely!
Shaky starts are NOT made better in RL by the addition of… ugh. Can’t give it away here.
I’m glad I read these books out of order, or I would’ve given up on the series entirely. Kellen’s book & Mick’s story were the first I’d read and they are light years ahead of this one both in terms of style and substance.

This is book 2 in the Brady Family series by Lainey Davis. While you can enjoy this on its own, I think it’s best enjoyed after book 1, Foundation. (This series is a spin-off from Davis’ Stag Brothers series & I also think it would be nice, but not necessary, to have listened to Fragile Illusion as well.)
I absolutely loved this book. I know much of it is that I’m married to a Type 1 diabetic and I could relate to both Maddie and Liam. This book so accurately captured what it’s like to be diagnosed young, how that impacts the way you relate to your family, how & when you share your diabetes with others, pump & CGM details… and what it’s like to be the partner to a diabetic.
Maddie is best friends with Liam’s brother’s girlfriend. When Maddie works on a short term project at Beltane Engineering, Liam is assigned to help her with meeting their clients. Sparks fly and it’s not long that these two give in. Unfortunately Liam’s fastidiousness and inquisitive nature combined with poor word choices collide with Maddie’s need to be in control of her own life.
There’s some bumps in the road and a big surprise as these two learn to communicate effectively. While I don’t normally like dragged out angst/arguments between the MCs – it worked well for me here. This relationship was very new when “the big thing” happened and they needed time and progress so I could feel their HEA.
There’s also lots of laughs, great sex scenes both steamy and including the very real annoyance of a blood sugar crash, and fun interaction with all the secondary characters. I loved the epilogue and can’t wait for Kellen’s story, Inspection.
Narration:
I love Tom Taylorson & Carly Robins and I love them paired together even more. Their styles really compliment each other. They’re both great at all the emotions that Davis’s writing throws at them. It was the perfect listen.

Not my favorite book of this series but it was moreso because of the characters not being enjoyable to me. And as someone well versed in type one diabetes, this book was the most accurately written (that I’ve read so far) with a T1D main character. However, there were still some inaccuracies but very minor. Thanks for the T1D representation. Another thing I have noticed about literally all of the Lainey Davis books I have read so far, is the fact that the female characters almost all have strained relationships with their parents? There are some traits in these characters that just make be believe that the author is projecting and doing a self insert into each of her FMCs.

I loved reading Suspension by Lainey Davis, an extremely short book/novella about an accidental pregnancy. Hero Liam Brady an engineer with control issues meets the heroine Maddie Parker, a type 1 diabetic with control issues of her own when h is contracted to write a book about the Brady family's engineering company. Much compromising happens before these two opposites reach their HEA.

Ok, this one i was looking foward to dive in, the blurb was promising and for a few chapters it really held it all together, until the character devel started to get alarmingly, underwhelmingly non existent, mosty from the hero.
I get that he was new to all this dating/relationship thing, but all of his arguments with the h ended up in him being a jerk to her, and to be honest she was the most vulnerable part here (not only dealing with her health issues, but also carrying a pregnancy with al the scary alternatives it implies for her and the baby, not having a home, being unemployed), and on top of that she has to deal with his bullshit.
But what really shut down his character develop for me is that he NEVER EVER WORKED HIS SHIT OUT, NEVER ONCE HE LOOKED FOR SOLUTIONS, NEVER, HE JUST TALKED TO OTHERS AND EXPECTED OTHER PEOPLE TO COME UP WITH THE ANSWER TO HIS ISSUE. He calls the h a "freak", he does nothing and eventually talks to his siblings who tell the what to do to fix things. They fight over her meal consumption and he makes petty remarks at her (A PREGNANT LADY STUGGLING WITH HER ILLNES) and literally gives up at having a relationship with her, even thinks of how to settle the child support and it isnt until he gets a RANDOM CALL FROM A COLLEAGUE saying she is a good person and struggles with a lot that he actually thinks in fixing their shit. HOW LAME IS THAT????? He literally ALWAYS waits for others to give him solutions to a relationship he never even thinks of repairing, is this how he'll act every time there's an issue between them? We all have shit to deal with internally, but she was the one with the desease and the growing human being inside, and i honestly think she deserved much better than this mock of a partner.
In the other hand, i found her flawed and insecure but real, the writing was pretty good and engaging, hence the 3 stars, but the way the story moved foward with the H made me pull my hair more than once.

Solid romance
This was an incredibly interesting romance for me. I wanted an unplanned pregnancy romance and this was definitely above what I was expecting. (SPOILERS)
Maddie is diabetic and is hired by Liam's company to write up the company history. Liam is an engineer in his father's company- generally up tight and has difficulty expressing emotions. Liam is captivated by Maddie and their attraction heats up as they work together. At about the right spot in the story, they of course come together. Of course Liam screws up afterwards in a really big way. Then he slowly figures out how to work it out and they have a rocky start but get to a loving and happy place when the baby is born in the epilogue.
I liked the following: the author really did her homework on engineering and even tho I doubt a small firm would be involved in quite so varied of projects, it was very interesting to learn about the engineering work; also we are up close and personal to the daily struggles of a type one diabetic, and it is an incredibly instructive story into the disease (you can also see where getting a low on your own could easily lead to a diabetic coma or death); I liked that while we learned about this disease, Liam doesn't fall for her or fall more for her due to a potentially debilitating illness/injury. I liked also that Liam's big error that caused the most damage was something that I could easily see happening and hurting Maddie as much as it did, without making Liam unredeemable; also neither characters were orphans or something equally improbable but would cause emotional stinginess, in their backstory; finally the sex was good. Some good scenes with appropriate and equal foreplay but I could have had more to be honest. (I did read this over two days instead of in one sitting so I could be forgetting- it was not due to the novel, but life interference, that caused me to drag it into two days). I also really appreciate how we learned what sex would really be like w the tubes being connected to Maddie but how they work around and can still be super passionate. Sex-o-meter score 7.6/10 (based on quantity and eroticism - so a 10/10 would have higher quantity but also much more kinky sex, which wouldn't match this story).
What I wasn't crazy about - I know I'm a bad person for this, but I kinda prefer the H to do something that justifies the h not telling him about the surprise pregnancy for a few months and then he finds out. Here, she was very up front about the pregnancy immediately upon finding out. Also, the main, or at least stronger, hurt/separation climax comes right after they get together, kind of in the middle of the story. This makes sense a lot in the story, bc that would be when he could be fully exposed to her reality, I just prefer the couple to get sexually and emotionally closer first so that that climax really guts you as the reader and you get the whole gamut of emotions. Also, with any office romance, I'd love a hot office sex scene. The scenes were hot and good, but I just think in that setting or a semi public setting, it adds a frisson of ... Je ne se pas... that adds a lot of stimulation to the scene.
This was my first novel of this author and I look forward to this or future work. I can see Emma would be in the first novel in the series but I hope I get to see Zach and Nicole's story too. Thank you, Ms. Davis, for such well-researched work.

Eh…this one just didn’t have enough for me; not enough character development (doing the hard work to improve), not enough chemistry, not enough communication, and not enough of a plot. Liam is anal retentive and possibly a bit OCD and even though he’s got personal issues and can afford it hasn’t seen fit to get therapy. Maddie is a type 1 diabetic and to be honest I found the way she managed her diabetes strange, but I also know people do what works for them so I’ll give that a pass. Anyway, these two started off full of heat and then for me it just became mundane. Liam feeling out of control and Maddie digging in because she doesn’t like being managed and I found none of it fun to read and honestly I didn’t really care for either character which makes it really hard to love a book. If it wasn’t for the Brady family, this book wouldn’t have gotten 3 stars; they are the ones that kept this book afloat.

There's no way this is the entire book.
Okay, was this book exactly what I needed when I needed it? Yes. Is it a good book? Also actually yes but it's about 50% of a good book. WHAY too fast paced to the point where you feel like you're just reading the highlights of their lives rather than a story.
Plus, oh god those tropes. So many interesting tropes. I did also notice that she literally never forgave him for calling her a freak and I love her for that. And yes, I loved the diabetic representation in this book. As my sister is diabetic and currently pregnant, reading about someone in a similar circumstance and being absolutely bad ass about it is greatly appreciated. Honestly, I wish it was longer and I wish the MMC was more caring toward her in a way that wasn't aggressively controlling but OTHER THAN THAT.

This authors characters are rather unique, a little bit left of centre but it does make them interesting. This time you have Liam, a very uptight, neurotic & perhaps slightly OCD H & Maddie a rather strong willed h with some health issues. It makes for a very unusual pairing.
There's also instant attraction & slow build up of tension between them but just as things start to look good for this couple Liam says something to hurt Maddie & she gives him the cold shoulder. There is of course something that brings them together which adds to Liam's neuroses.
If you like a story that a bit different with quirky characters you'll enjoy this tale.

The story line flows smoothly. Maddie and Liam meet at work and are smitten with each other, but never seem to be on the same page with their emotions and feelings. The growth of the characters throughout the book learning to compromise and deal wit their fears and quirks was well written and the reader experiences the feelings and emotional turmoil of the characters especially when they overreact or overstep their bounds. It was easy to relate to the characters and I enjoyed the book and the well deserved HEA .

3.5 I LOVED the first 50% of this book and overall it was very fun, it also hit on a number of my favorite tropes (helloooooo boy obsessed Mr. Liam Brady). BUT by the second half the heroine got very annoying in her choices. Her reasoning made sense but I didn’t feel like her character arc ever ended up anywhere. We didn’t get to see her confront what was causing her character flaws or get to see her grow as a person and believe in herself. Which was very dissatisfying. Same went for the hero. He didn’t ever CONFRONT the baggage that was causing him to be a controlling jerk for half the story.

I did enjoy reading this book and I was really looking forward to it after the sneak peek on Foundation (book 1), but it could have been so much more. The health condition of the FMC and chaos experienced by the couple was enlightening, but I think with a little more discussion between them this could have been so much better. I could’ve done without the forward by the author though, considering not that it was her personal view, but that it set the book off on the wrong note. I think it would’ve been best to add that at the end. It was like saying this book is going to be ok, but what you’re about to read is not what I wanted to give you, the reader.

Case Study was a cute grumpy x sunshine, opposites attract romance. I always love seeing more Type 1 Diabetes representation in books, and I really appreciated that the author didn't shy away from the reality of living with T1D.
Liam was so sweet and was always making sure Maddie was safe and had snacks if she needed them. Those little moments were some of my favorites. I did wish there were a few more romance scenes since I felt another storyline took up a lot of the book, but I still really enjoyed it overall.
I also appreciated how the story highlighted the realities of living with Type 1 Diabetes. It was a good reminder that insulin is lifesaving medication, and no one should have to struggle to afford something they need to survive.

An enjoyable and exciting book two in the Brady Family series! The story line is engaging, emotionally deep, witty, heart-tugging, with phenomenal character growth, and is guaranteed to pull you in from the first page. The characters are real and have a number of obstacles to overcome, but you will love and root for them; the chemistry between them is off the charts. Definitely recommended!

I absolutely LOVED IT!!! It was amazing, sweet, romantic and not to mention STEAMY. I loved the characters and the plot development. The emotional portrayl was amazing!!! I loved learning about another brother from the Brady bunch and can not for the next one. Lainey Davis, well done on anothe amazing book.

I absolutely adore Lainey’s Brady Family Series.

I listened to Suspension as an audio book and can’t recommend it enough. The narrators, Carly Robins and Tom Taylorson are a perfect match for this romcom.

She is a Type 1 DM
He seems to be On The Spectrum? A fixer type person. Nervous, tidy. A Protector Archetype? He needs to ask lots of questions because answers make him comfortable.
That Engineer type brain.
Maddie is Independent but a bit insecure about having a insulin pump on her body on a relationship but manages it very well. Her Fanny pack chic is quirky and fun.
They really work hard to overcome their own issues and each other's issues.
Both are likable characters and very well written, fully fleshed out.
I think this Author is very under-rated.
This is my favorite of the series.

Numbers don’t lie.
Hers what I liked:
Liam. He’s all starchy and uptight. He’s a numbers guy. Of course he’s gonna need someone (besides his brother) to bring in chaos into his life. That’s Maddie, a hot mess and then some.
Recommend.

A good story that had characters with issues which gave the story a realism to it. I wasn’t a fan of reading the multiple disagreements between them which were also realistic. I did like the story though.

This (2nd book of the series) is full of so much!
I enjoyed Madison and her ownership of her situation...a tough one for anyone.
Liam is a great character and I enjoyed his evolution.
Please read this series in order to get the most from this story.

Liam (Yum) and Maddie are a fun read. He is very stodgy, and Maddie is much more by the seat of her pants kind of gal. I love the supporting characters/ world that Lainey Davis has created in these books. I enjoy that the Engineering is legit.
