Black Dog, Book 4

While Thierry is away, the Morrigan will play. Snatching the crown from her daughter-in-law’s head wasn’t the motherly thing to do, but Thierry doesn’t mind trading the throne in Faerie for the ratty couch in her Texas apartment. The old crow is welcome to it. But ruling one world is not enough. The Morrigan wants an all-access pass to the mortal realm too.

An attack on the marshal’s office leaves Thierry shaken…and Shaw missing. Now the fight brewing since Thierry took up the Black Dog’s mantle has landed on her doorstep, and the only way to save the man she loves is to defend the title she never wanted.

Old Dogs, New Tricks turned this series around for me and, of course, it’s the last book! Unlike the previous audiobook, this one held my attention from the get go. We’ve got an attack at the marshal’s office. Discovery something about Thierry and have to deal with the Morrigan who, apparently, wants access to the mortal realm.

Thierry will work with her Dad on this. Shaw has been kidnapped. It was interesting to see her come into her powers and accept things. She also makes peace with her parents and I think begins to understand and accept them. Along the way, Thierry will take back what she wants and perhaps find her happy.

Surprises and a strengthening of the romance ended things strong for me. I finally felt the romantic connection and enjoyed the fast-paced, action packed ending to the Black Dog series.

Mooreghan Martin continued with the narration and enhanced my enjoyment. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Well this 4th book pretty much ends the Black Dog part of this series (but not the end of stories in this world) and it was done very well I thought with nothing really left hanging.

Once again Thierry is at odds with the Morrigan, this is a bit of "save the world" plot which sometimes is overly dramatic and boring but this was not the case here thankfully and while it does not sit in the forefront of the motivation it is in the background of the plot.

In the paranormal genre of urban fantasy you see a lot of amazing women that can handle themselves, self assured , etc but every now and then I like to see one who has talent but just plain old dumb luck plays a large part in her success and that is where Thierry fits. She is no pushover by a long shot but she still has a lot to learn but manages to stumble into a solution to most of her problems as she goes along.

The romance part of this series has always left me flat which is OK since this is mainly an urban fantasy story (and I still have a bit of a hard time warming up to Shaw) and the fact that the vast majority of this story revolves around Thierry and her father worked excellently for me.

The action is good, the solutions pretty unique and the ending was great since from all I can gather this is the ending of the Black Dog part of this series, looks like the next story will revolve around her friends which also sounds good.

Bottom Line: Great story, addictive reading, superior ending and I still look forward to the next story just to see where Hailey Edwards goes from here. Highly, recommended 4 Stars only because of some minor inconsistencies that I won't mention but bothered the OCD in me a bit.

I’ve been sitting here for a long time, trying to figure out exactly what it was about this book that left me a little lukewarm. It’s not the main character, because I really like Thierry. It’s definitely not her dad, because I find Mac fascinating and the relationship growing between him and his daughter is really something special. It’s not the world-building, because that was expertly done. And it wasn’t the ending, because it wraps up the series arc quite nicely.

So what is it? Two things, I think. One, the romance in this series has never quite connected for me. Yes, I get that Thierry has made her decision, and as of the end of book three, she’d committed entirely to Shaw. It’s not so much that I think Rook was a better choice for her, though a couple of books back, it seemed like he might have been. Maybe it’s because I never saw them fall in love. Maybe it’s because he hurt her so deeply. Maybe it’s the age difference. All of these or some combination, no matter how you slice it, I was just not invested, even if I could want Thierry to be with him just to get the HEA she earned.

The other thing? The books felt… uneven. They didn’t feel like slices of a single journey but Thierry veering from one thing to another in her life. One book (and a novella) about her being a marshal. One book where Shaw breaks her heart, she goes to Faerie, and explores a possible second love interest. One where she goes on a road trip with her BFF and explores friendships with her big cat and her guards before she eventually gets back with Shaw. And now this book, which is all about her bonding with her father as they return to Faerie to save the human world. It didn’t feel linear. Not exactly like I was jerked around, but that I kept having to adjust my expectations with each book and I kept getting something different. Does that make sense? (Probably not, but it’s the best I can do.)

As I said, this is all about Thierry and Mac building both a father-daughter relationship and one of student and teacher. I really enjoyed their time together. For all that he is Other, there is no doubt that the Black Dog loves his daughter and that she carries his magic is undeniable. The big problem to solve here is that Morrigan has kidnapped Shaw and Thierry must not only figure out a way to rescue him, but to defeat the goddess on her own home turf. Obviously, that means Rook is in the picture and he is dealt with, although I would have liked to have seen a bit more strength in his character. (I felt like he was given an extra shove down to make Shaw seem like a better choice but maybe that’s just me projecting.)

Watching Thierry pick up new abilities and fighting for her loved ones was great. Like I said, Mac was great. The ending was fine. But I think I am still looking for more coherency. Like the guards who played so prominently in book three. Yes, I know they were mentioned, but I wanted to see them come back around. I wanted a different kind of resolution for Bhain (because… ew.) More with the dragons. The on-page reunion of Rook and his sister.

I know my belly-aching may make it sound like I am poo-pooing the book, but I don’t mean to. It wasn’t bad and I don’t regret the series. It’s still worth checking out and I will read the spinoff books. This just didn’t quite live up to the potential I feel like it had.

My Thoughts On The Book:

The Plot Of The Story:
And so we have reached the end of the Black Dog series, and I am totally gutted about it as there was so much potential for the story to carry forward.... yes, I have heard about the series Hailey Edwards is putting together based around Mai and I am excited about it but I'm afraid it won't be the same.
In this final book Thierry has to step up to the pate and defend her unwanted ruling title among the Fae against the Morrigan, her errant mother-in-law, who has decided to take control in Thierry's absence. Normally Thierry wouldn't care as she never wanted to rule Faerie as it was but it seems that the Morrigan has plans beyond Faerie and a plan to rule everything, everywhere which is something Thierry cannot let happen. An attack on the Marshall's office shakes Thierry and her friends to the core and the fact that Shaw has gone missing doesn't help settle Thierry's fear in the slightest. A cataclysmic fight is brewing that will change everything for everyone forever as Thierry fights for her life, her friends, her world and for the love of her life.
As a finale to a series this wasn't quite the bang I was expecting, not to say that I didn't enjoy it tremendously but it didn't have the emotional impact I needed to finish of what has been a great series for me. I can't explain why it didn't hit the mark completely for me, it felt sort of like something was missing but I don't know exactly what it was and it bothers me.

What Is There To Love?
The character were again as fantastic as normal especially as we finally get the chance to meet the mysterious Macsen, Thierry's father as he finally makes an appearance and meets his daughter. Thierry is as kick-ass as usual but still showing the flaws in her character especially when it comes to Shaw, the incubus she loves. When it comes to Shaw she's a mess as he takes up so much of thoughts, she spent so much lusting after him, then hating him, then being drawn through guilt to him when she found out she had caused him to be only able to feed from her before finally going back to being rather besotted by him..... and finally he begins to show signs that he truly does feel the same way for her, showing some real feelings which made him a lot more likeable that he has been lately. While Thierry does have the added help in her battle from her father she does seem to stand much more on her own two feet this time around and it does give her an added strength that had only been hinted at previously and I liked it on her.
The other characters from the previous books, like show stealing Mai, take a bit more of back-seat this time as Thierry battles for Faerie and they are missed which is a shame but it is made up for by Macsen being present. It's really good to see how Thierry's immediate family reacts to the reappearance of her errant father, to see her mother's reaction and how all her mother's feelings for Macsen come flooding back to her. It's interested for Thierry to see the dynamics between her parent while trying to deal with her feelings for the father she has never know, the father responsible for her Fae genes, for her power, and for the Fae life she has to live.
Something else I loved was the almost political aspects bought to the forefront in this book, the relations between the Fae factions both in Fae and in our own world. There was so much betrayal, slander and double crossing going on that it could make a girls head spin, and it did!

What Is There To Dislike?
The whole book didn't gel with me as much as previous books did, maybe I was expecting too much knowing this was the finale and predicting a more satisfying and fulfilling ending for the story. The thread ends of the various storylines did all get tied up pretty well by the end but I was just expecting something more powerful, more emotional, more breathtaking and I was left a little disappointed. What didn't help me was my overwhelming feeling of wanting to know what happened next, after the book finished and maybe that was my problem with the book.

How's The Writing?
As usual the writing was great, it was clear and concise to the point with nothing to over think. The world building continues to be astounding as we delve back into Faerie and meet some more of the Fae beings. The myths and legends behind the story is what makes the book special and for someone as fascinated with the Fae as I am it is an amazing read. The characterisations are good and the main characters continue to grow and evolve steadily while still evoking emotional responses in the readers that feel true and correct. I will say that in places the pacing was a little sow which is something I wasn't expecting for a final book, I thought the pacing would be break-neck but that doesn't mean that the pacing didn't fit the book as it did for the most part, some portions just dragged a little.

Final Thoughts:
The Black Dog series has been an imaginative and extraordinary series for me and while this final book disappointed me, and I do admit that this disappoint could well have been of my own making and of my own expectations for it, it doesn't take away from the series overall. It's been a fascinating ride that I freely admit that I don't want to be over even if there is going to be a spin off series. I want to go back and have more adventures with Thierry and Shaw and am gutted that I can't. Picking up the first book on a whim was one the best things I've done as this series is just amazing and it is one worthy of recommendation and that what I will do, I will advocate and endorse this series to one and all. If you love books about the Fae then this is a no-brainer series to read so what are you waiting for?

~ 4 Old Dog, New Tricks Stars ~

Old Dog, New Tricks is book four in the Black Dog series by Haliley Edwards. This ends the Black Dog part of the series and it was done nicely.

The Black Dog series is one you must read in order to get the full plot and characters. Thierry was left in a bind from the last book Lie Down with Dogs. Her dad is back, her Fae husband is captured, and now she must go into fairy to save earth realm from the death Goddess Morrigan. Being the Black Dog’s daughter is not easy.

She is back with her dumb luck, talent, and self assuredness. Though she still has a lot to learn, but this is the Theirry I have come to enjoy, not the self pitying one from Lie Down with Dogs. Here she is training for a big battle as well as learning new skills from her father.

The romantic relationships have truly never flown with me, but that is ok since this is mainly an urban fantasy story. The vast majority of this story revolves around Thierry and her father, which worked for me. Her father is trying to be a part of her life. I liked that feelings and past issues where discussed and that healing in some way is starting to take place between father and daughter, as well as with her mother. As for the romantic relationships we do get closer with her Fae husband and also learn that she is officially mated to Shaw.

I liked this novel. The story is fast paced with a few surprises I did not see coming. The action is good and the ending was well done. From what I gather this is the end of the Black Dog, but it looks like the next story might revolve around her friends.

Urban fantasy fans will enjoy the Black Dog series. I look forward to the next story and recommend giving this series a try.

Not the worst thing I've ever read, but it didn't have the feel of an amazing end to a series either. It didn't feel like the grand culmination of events followed by a natural lull where the story could be comfortably set down, it just felt like the author didn't want to write about these characters any more so simply scraped together any old thing to call it a day.

Even though Thierry and Mac spent an awful lot of time travelling about in this one, and she kept pushing herself to be quicker (despite Faerie having an insanely flexible concept of both time and distance) because Shaw might already be dead or starving to death somewhere, it didn't really manage to convey a sense of urgency to me. Probably because they kept going back to Mac's Magical Treehouse to eat faerie bacon and eggs as well as sleep in magically appearing guest suites. On top of that everything they did do just felt way too easily come by and having the characters say so themselves doesn't act as an excuse. I'd have been willing to let it slide if the author had pulled off an absolutely amazing twist where all hell broke loose, but it sadly did not happen.

In fact the "solution" to the entire conflict in this book, whilst making sense in the context of what to do with a death-touched omen that can't be permanently killed, came across as a complete cop-out. You're telling me that a child level parlour trick that the main character learnt mere hours beforehand, and a bit of unintentional and ridiculously convenient carelessness on the Morrigan's part, can render the "Big Baddy" of the series effectively powerless indefinitely? It was a cheap, unfulfilling outcome to the entire story and the only thing it managed to do for me was cement Thierry's gradual change in to a Mary Sue in my mind.

Overall a disappointingly lacklustre and empty finish to a series that had so much potential.

This series stroked all my happy places and gave me many, MANY things to grin about. Family, friends, political maneuverings more terrifying than a US presidential election... you name it, this series had it.

And it had Thierry and Shaw. THOSE TWO. They've had a bumpy road to navigate, but they managed. Let's face it, their relationship wasn't always pretty and it certainly raised a few hackles along the way. Literally, in the case of Mac. BUT...I really, really enjoyed watching Thierry and Shaw battle through their issues.

There's more to this book than Thierry and Shaw's relationship. There's the Morrigan and her, uhh, vicious craziness. There's all the insanity that goes along with the type of backstabbing typical of the fae. Oh, and there's some family bonding. Thierry and Mac. Awwww.

An extremely satisfying ending to a fun series. I'm sad to have it end, but I loved how they went out.

Hailey Edwards Old Dog, New Tricks is a great addition to the Black Dog Series. Thierry’s mother-in-law, the Morrigan, is threatening to gain access to the mortal realm. The marshal’s office was attached, and Shaw is missing. This action-packed urban fantasy has one exciting scene after the next.

I love Thierry. She is a great heroine with a lot of depth. She continually grows and fights for justice. The Morrigan is the ultimate antagonist. She is wicked and ruthless. The plot was carefully thought out exhilarating. The story was full of foreshadowing. I love Hailey Edwards’ use of mythology and modern twists. If you enjoy contemporary stories based on myth you want to read this series. I would definitely start with book one and not jump ahead.

What an amazing conclusion to the series! Edwards is a master storyteller and I can't wait to read more of her works.
In the conclusion to the Black Dog series, Thierry and her father travel to Faerie to subdue the Morrigan, dissolve Thierry' s marriage to Rook and to rescue Shaw. All in a day's work for this magical duo. Except when they reach Black Dog's den in Faerie, they find a near dead Rook inside, a victim of Morrigan's anger and madness. They will need allies to defeat the Morrigan and sever the tethers between Faerie and the mortal realm, but is Rook one they can trust? Or is he still the trickster of the past?

Ok ok ok so it took me forever and a month to read this because of a terribly stupid reason: I love this series so hard and didn't want it to end.

Of course, now I'm kicking myself, because it was excellent. I will avoid spoilers, but suffice it to say Go #TeamShaw, this is still and will likely always be one of my all time favorite authors, and honestly this book could not have possibly been a better ending for the series.

It doesn't hurt, of course, that there are already two books in the spin-off series, with another coming out on my birthday.

A solid 5/5

Father-Daughter-Feels to the max, y'all. That's all I can say about this book.

The series, as a whole, was just plain fun to read. I love Thierry in all of her vulnerable but smartness. I always felt like her honest mistakes were ones I would have made, and I never felt like screaming "Don't go in there!" She fumbled her way through a mess that she didn't cause with the perfect amount of sneakiness, humility, and balls.

On the re-read list for sure!

Holy cow.. Not many authors are able to pull off ending a series without it feeling rushed, . Missing something that makes you wonder what the heck.. This, master piece pulled it off for me. I owed the series. Will go back to re-read, but won't be feeling left hanging even if I do wish there was just one more..

5 stars!

Now that Marshal Thierry Thackeray and daddy dearest Macsen, aka The Black Dog, have been reunited, Thierry’s life consists of practicing fighting and having her dad bunk on her couch. That doesn’t leave much time for her and her hot incubus boyfriend Marshal Jackson “Shaw” to spend some quality time together. Add all of that together with the fact that Thierry just found out that her mom and Mac are “back together”, she is feeling mighty frustrated with life right now. So when Shaw goes missing, Thierry knows exactly where to look and who to ask – her “husband” Rook, the Unseelie Prince who tricked her into a marriage so he could take over the throne once she when back to the human realm. But when Thierry and Mac travel back to Faerie, Rook and Shaw are nowhere to be seen. In fact, word around is that Rook disappeared when the Morrigan overtook the throne from his temporary ruling.

Figuring that the only way to truly help Faerie is to destroy the six tethers allowing the Faerie inhabitants to travel between the two worlds – as well as the Morrigan to escape into the human world and have an endless human buffet at her fingertips. But it is not an easy feat – Thierry and Mac will have many obstacles, as the tethers are all over Faerie in the different seasons. They know that Morrigan will not let the tethers go without a fight. As they go about the difficult task of destroying the remaining bridges back to the human realm and trying to save Shaw, Thierry begins to wonder if happily ever after is even a possibility for her.

I must say that I really enjoyed watching Thierry through her journey over the last four books – with exception of the first book, I really loved seeing how her life fell into place – good or bad (no spoilers here!). She was in a strange place being a unique being – half human, half faerie, but she really was able to find her place in the world. From Mac, to her mom, Shaw to Rook – Thierry had a lot on her plate and Ms. Edwards was really able to convey a very real young lady with real problems and real feelings. This book was a terrific ending to a great series, even if I am sad to see Thierry go!

I really loved this entire series, and while this book was my least favorite, it still was a good ending to this part of the story. From my understanding, the next book set in this world will follow Mai's adventures. Part of me is looking forward to that, and the other part of me isn't, but I digress. The character development in this novel is pretty good, the world-building is well-done, and the writing is decent. The pacing was a bit slow in the beginning, and I didn't really get into the story until about the 60% mark. That's why I gave this novel a B instead of an A.

Thierry is a strong character, and I've enjoyed reading from her perspective. She's a bit temperamental at times, but that just makes her seem real. I also have quite the temper, so I can relate to her pretty easily. She doesn't disappoint in this book. Not only was she unselfish for the most part, but she also learned to appreciate her fae heritage more. I really enjoyed reading her interactions with Mac. Speaking of Mac, he's a terrific character, and I'm glad we finally got to know him some in this installment. I would have liked to have seen Shaw some, but I know his disappearance was key to Thierry reaching who she was meant to be as a person. I also liked seeing Rook evolve over the course of the novel. Mai wasn't in the book much, but she isn't my favorite, so I didn't mind not having her around.

As I said, the pacing is a bit slow in the beginning, but I think that was to give Thierry's relationship with Mac some time to develop, and that was nice to see. Most of the book was set in Faerie, and it was interesting to see the denizens, both old and new. Things moved along organically, if a bit slow, and I really enjoyed seeing all of Faerie through Theirry's "tour through the seasons." The ending tied up Thierry's story nicely, but left room for the spin-off with Mai. I'll read that one, I'm sure, just to see if I can tolerate Mai better from her perspective.

Overall, I'd recommend this book and series to fans of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. Edwards has created a beautiful world with charming characters.

Old Dog; New Tricks,  Hailey Edwards
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre:  Fantasy and paranormal

** Spoilers for earlier novels **
Final stretch of what has been a terrific fantasy series. I love series like this where there’s lots of magic, unusual creatures ( the Morrigan, Shape-shifters, Fae, Trolls, Selkies are just some of what's been through the series)  some suspense and a romance running through. At the start when I though Shaw had cheated I hated him...Poor Thierry, she was so in love with him, and then he did that! Of course once the truth came out I’d got attached to Rook too, and even though he wasn’t perfect I still have a soft spot for him. Still in the Rook v Shaw stakes it’s Shaw that's come through, and now I know all I can see just how much he loves Thierry, to the point of being ready to sacrifice his life. That’s true love.
There’s lots more secrets come out in this final part, lots of the usual magic and danger, the Morrigan is in full danger mode, and Thierry and Mac need to stop her. As ever though the best laid plans go wrong, though in fact its more plans made on the fly and she’s always one step ahead and they fight for time. Shaw is missing and time is running out for him, if Thierry doesn’t find him soon he could die.
Once again its a great read, a series tempered just to my speed, its got the balance perfect for me. Its one I’ll enjoy on a back to back read, so that its all fresh in my mind, though it didn’t take long to pick up from where we left off. Along with the main story of Morrigan v The World there are numerous sub plot, Mable and the honey, Thierry and Shaw, Rook and his sister, and of course what’s going on with Mac and Thierry’s mum....it’s been a really fun series, one that’s easy to follow and read yet had enough depth and interest to keep me gripped to page ( or kindle  anyway!!)
the only issue I had was when Thierry was first back in Faery, it seemed to drag a little when she was closing the tethers, but that a minor point.

Wow, what a fantastic finale to the series!

I must admit that I have flip-flopped around with the previous books, loved the first, got confused by the second which veered off in a completely different direction and was happier with the third. But this book wrapped it all back together in a gift box with ribbons and a bow.

Mac is back (and his hidden identity did not go over well). Thierry and Mac start training, finally Thierry can learn about her abilities and how they work. All to quickly though Thierry is summoned to the Counsel meeting to hear its decision about how to deal with the Morrigan. But before a decision is made all hell breaks loose.

Soon Thierry and Mac are on a desperate mission in faerie meeting trolls, ogres, dragons, flocks of birds, the Morrigan, Rook and more.

Without giving away any of the plot I can't say much more, other than to say, in my opinion, Hailey Edwards got just the right balance between building to a final plot crescendo and giving enough of "what happened next". Some final books are all plot crescendo and just stop with the reader left wondering, others stage the final "battle" too early and half the book seems to be précising the next 20 years for each character. This one in the words of Goldilocks was just right.

I've read all four books in a matter of weeks and feel like I have been on an epic journey with Thierry. Looking back I still feel I missed something before both the first and second books (someone tell me if there are novellas I missed) but taken as a whole the series was fantastic and the abrupt change of story in the second book was necessary for the series as a whole.

Phew what am I going to read next?

In OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS Thierry once again proves that she can handle just about anything. Shaw is missing and she has to travel into Faerie to get him back and beat the Morrigan once and for all. The danger is just as high, but she has her father by her side and she is determined to complete the tasks she is there for and save the man she loves.

There is some secondary character growth that I enjoyed in book 4. We get a new peek at Thierry's mother.. I saw her as a bit of a weak woman before, but she proves she is strong a few times in OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS and her relationship with Thierry grows much stronger. Thierry's father is able to prove how much he really loves her and her mom. I enjoyed seeing their bond grow after all the tension at the end of LIE DOWN WITH DOGS. One thing I didn't love, we didn't get a lot of Shaw/Thierry time due to the fact that he is taken pretty quickly in the beginning of the book.

I didn't know this before jumping into it, but apparently OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS is the last book in the series? Say WHAT? It honestly didn't feel like the series was done at the end of OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS and was looking forward to the next book. I still need to know more about Thierry, her dad and even Shaw. THAT is why OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS is getting a 3 stars from me. It just doesn't feel complete to me.

I'm sad....

I'm sad that Thierry's journey is over. Don't get me wrong, it's a happy-sad moment, but it is over. It was an EXTREMELY excellent run so to speak. That is pretty much the only spoiler I'll ever put out is when a great character's story has been told...

Having read some other Kindle Unlimited offerings, I was pleasantly surprised that the author took great care in her work, grammatically, editorially and format-wise. In e-book offerings this seems to be sorely lacking.

All in all I am happy I put in the time to read this particular series. I have a love of all things mythical and Ms. Edwards brought that to life for me. I will definitely read more of this author's work.

This is the fourth book in the this Black Dog series, and I admit I rushed through the first three in order to get this read for review. I absolutely loved it! I love the twist of worlds/power between the realms of Fae and Human merge and operate in Edwards' version. The originality of thought in how the Black Dog story began (as I don't recall hearing this version of myth) was interesting. Though I usually try to stay away from romancey-type stories, this one was not overboard with the relationship interactions.

I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher, CrushStar Multimedia, LLC, in exchange for a review.

I really liked this 3rd book as it was a time to really get to know Mac who was always talked about in the book. Thierry also got to work side by side with her father and build that bond she always wanted .

This book was full of twists and turns that had me at the edge of my seat for the duration of the book. I refused to sleep until the very last page because the book was just so amazing.

I really liked the ending of the book, it was what I was expecting but it all happened in a different way. Was sad that the series ended and would highly recommend it for all dystopian and fantasy fans.

Thierry has finally made a decision to leave Rook and remain with Shaw. But now the Morrigan is after her to close all the tethers to the mortal world, and leave only one tether open for her use. Thierry must defeat the Morrigan and close the last tether to stop her from entering the mortal world and taking control of it. The fight is fast paced and violent. But Thierry comes out the victor, saves Shaw and even creates a new tether for Rook so he can see his sister again. Thierry has her life back, no longer the fae princess, she can be with Shaw and remain the Black Dogs beloved daughter

I really wanted to like this series, that's why I stuck with it for so long...but idk I just didn't get it. Thierry just goes around forgiving literally everyone who has ever wronged her except for Rook. And I honestly thought he had the best reasoning so it was kinda annoying to read. He didn't do anything worse than anybody else yet she was a complete bitch only to him. I ended up skimming most of it because still after 4 books I think she and Shaw just have zero chemistry, their scenes were complete snoozefests.

I liked the book but that was about it. I didn't love it or anything and I think she is selling herself short by going back to her "boyfriend" she could do so much better and the only reason she is attracted to him is bc of what he is. Every girl and some of the guys feel the same way about him as she does. And her mother that really acts like her much immature little sister is just as annoying. So, I liked the book but didn't love it.

Good stuff

The challenges that Theiry encountered made her into an unsung hero. She is strong, loving, fair, and smart. It was refreshing to see her family change and learn to live and trust one another. I thought this was the final book, and maybe it is, but I hope there are additional answers to come along with more details on Shaw's and Theiry's relationship. In addition, it would be great to sees if Mai ever finds her mate.

Teaching the New dog, Old tricks

I loved the amount of time that Thierry spent with the Black Dog. He taught her more in the time they had together than any other fae had been able teach her outside of Shaw. But even Shaw wouldn't have been able to teach her the tricks the Black Dog did, since it was a blood relation thing. I will definitely be keeping up with this cast of characters in the spin off series.

This really did feel like the last book. It read like Hailey wanted to put an end to it because her thoughts were on another book. By the looks of things, it probably was. I wanted to see more humor and more Shaw.

I love this series and the world building. I fell in love with all the characters. I'm going to read the next series and hopefully I'll get back the humor from Hailey Edwards crazy ass-kicking world.
