I'm a big fan of Allison Brennan's mysteries, and I'll Be Watching You delivers another compelling mix of likable characters, suspense, and page-turning twists. As the culmination of a mystery that's been building since the first book, this installment brings long-awaited answers while keeping the tension high.

The investigation is both methodical and urgent, with ongoing personal storylines. Margo and DEA agent Cal continue to grow closer, while hints of a romance between Nate and Luisa add another layer of interest.

I alternated between the audiobook and e-book and can recommend either. Hillary Huber gives another excellent performance, bringing both the characters and suspense to life. She's one of my favorite narrators, and her performance continues to elevate this series!

This third book in the Angelhart Investigations series brings a satisfying resolution to the family mystery that has been building since the first novel. The investigation into the father’s murder confession hits high gear here as the family untangles a dangerous medical conspiracy within the VA hospital system. While there is a bit of repetitive backstory to catch up new readers, I recommend reading the series in order to get the full impact of the payoff. The plot moves fast, the stakes feel dangerous, and it delivers a solid conclusion for anyone who has followed this family from the start.

This time, Margo and her family are finally forced to confront with the mystery surrounding her father’s imprisonment. The Angelhart family are not premier private investigators for nothing and now they are all focused on getting to the bottom of what now appears to be a deadly conspiracy with reputations and a lot of money as reasons to kill to keep their secrets.

This is the book the series has been building to, and it delivered! Watching the formerly estranged Angelhart family team up to chase down the truth and clear Cooper's name was so satisfying. I pieced a few things together early, but I loved every second of listening to it all unfold.

🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: Hillary Huber does it again! Her Ava portrayal is heartbreaking, a mom desperate to protect her adult kids but also wanting her innocent husband home. Huber conveys Margo’s fierce determination, and just the right softness for Margo’s new romance. And she juggled every POV flawlessly, I never once missed not having a full cast.

Please tell me this isn't goodbye to the Angelharts. I'd read a dozen more books about this family and their Pl firm!

I always enjoy Margo and her family, and I liked how the whole family was incorporated into this plan to prove her father's innocence. I also liked how the side characters - like Nate - were given more present roles in the story. Honestly, my only complaint is that I feel that the Rick x Margo storyline was written off too abruptly. I do like the relationship with Cal, but Rick was described as someone Margo considered marrying. That just doesn't seem like someone she would forget about in two months, well at least not in my opinion. However, I think Cal fits better with the family so perhaps it is better to let it lie. All in all, I think this is a great addition to the Angelhart Investigations series.

I jumped into this series in Don't Say A Word, the second book. While it was very readable as a standalone and explained that Margo's dad was in prison for a murder she (and many others) did not think he did, I missed some of the context of her joining the family PI firm.

I'll Be Watching You is set a few months after that book. Margo is settling into life with a boyfriend and kitten when she receives a phone call from a nurse who worked with her father with evidence that could help. But she is murdered as Margo is waiting to meet her. With more lives on the line, Margo's parents finally come clean on why her dad confessed to a crime he didn't commit and they all start investigating it even as threats come their way.

As with the previous book, it has a fairly large cast of characters and they are quite similar. Margo's brother is an ex-cop, her boyfriend is DEA. Margo and her younger sister are veterans. Her other brother works in the crime lab so stands out a little more but his partner is an FBI agent who spends a lot of time with the family as they investigate. It can get a little confusing following which one is doing what through the book.

We also see some of it through the real killer's POV as he struggles with killing an innocent woman to cover up the crimes and how they set up the original murder of Cooper Angelhart's friend and coworker.

The book closes a number of storylines as Margo and her mom get over the lies told and distance it caused. She introduces Cal to her family. Tess, her sister, is planning her wedding as the others try to find their place as the threats end and they are moving on with their lives.

Margo (and by default, her family) finally get the answers to what happened with her dad and why he's in prison. Once all was revealed, it's stupid and of course at the root of things was money. Looking at the info that Cooper had at the time, he made the only decision he could live with, even if it was hard and he was lying. So glad the truth came out and the family is back together again.

The Angelheart Investigations series is one of my absolute favorite series. Book 3 shows that this series is only getting better - and it has been fantastic from the start.

I am not going to share a lot of details about the plot of this one - I highly recommend that you start with Book 1 of this series. In this book, the Angelheart Family is dealing with a very personal case. They are trying to solve a case that is very close to home.

I really loved the different chapters from the point of views of different characters. Margot is my favorite character in this series, but I loved the opportunity to get to know others. This case wrapped up in a very satisfying way. I hope to read so much more about this family.

Part of this story focuses on United States Veterans. The author tells their stories with respect and care. It is a true reminder of the responsibility we have to care for them after their service.

Angelhart Investigations continues as Margo remains determined to clear her father’s name and uncover why he pleaded guilty to a crime he didn’t commit.

The story is told from several different points of view. Since each chapter begins with the character’s name, it is easy to keep track of who is narrating and doesn’t become confusing.

Overall, it’s a good story. It felt a little slow at times, but the mystery kept me interested, and I think many readers will enjoy it.

I'll Be Watching You By Allison Brennan is a very highly recommended investigative procedural and the third novel in the Angelhart Private Investigators series. It was a pleasure to follow Margot and the Angelhart family in another investigation.

Private investigator Margo Angelhart has recently rejoined her family's PI business, but she is still determined to prove that her father Dr. Cooper Angelhart did not kill Dr. Devin Klein. When Liz Swanson, a nurse who worked with Dr. Cooper, has a patient's entire chart disappear, she mentions it to Georgia Rollins, who was a part of Margo's earlier investigation. Georgia encourages Liz to call Margo. The two agree to meet the next morning, but Liz and her husband are murdered right as they are leaving for the meeting.

Margo visits her father in prison after this to see if he will tell her the truth now. He encourages her to talk to her mother, Ava. Then, without warning, Cooper is transferred to a Federal Supermax prison in Colorado at 2 am. Finally, Ava tells the truth. Cooper confessed to the murder to protect his family. Apparently Dr. Devin Klein was murdered after he discovered falsified data from a drug trial, including patients who had their adverse reactions removed from their files. Cooper's family was directly threatened, so he confessed to the murder to protect them. Now the killer is back and the family's investigation to clear Cooper's name will make them all targets.

This is another well-written, compelling, complicated, and intricate investigation in a fast-paced plot. Margot and her whole family with Angelhart investigations work well together, logically follows clues while uncovering a deadly conspiracy. Those involved with the coverup seemingly will do anything, including murder, to keep the falsified data and adverse reactions secret. There are plenty of clues to follow and Margo and her family quickly realize that the danger to the whole family is exponentially growing with each new discovery.

At this point I'm well acquainted with all the characters. They are realistically portrayed as complicated individuals with strengths and some flaws. Margo is tenacious, intelligent, and very intuitive. She has plenty of discernment and can really read people and get them to open up to her when talking to them. Margo's relationship with Cal Rafferty, a DEA agent, is growing.

Even though this is the third book in the series enough background is provided that it can be enjoyed as a standalone novel, but those following the series will, perhaps, enjoy it more as they know the characters and the background information. As a family business, Angelhart Investigations consists of, in part, Margo, an experienced P.I., her brother Jack, a former police detective, her sister Tess, who excels at research, and her mother, Ava, a former county attorney and prosecutor.

I read quickly and easily. Finally we are getting at the heart of the family and Margo's rift with her mother. Margo gets a call from a nurse who worked with her dad.  Maybe Margo can finally solve the crime which put her father in prison.

The   Angelhart Investigations series is fast paced and the investigations are gritty but smart. Margo has plenty of less than normal sources of information.  Plus she stakes out some things or plays a role when interviewing witnesses and suspects.  She rarely gets into trouble with the law because of all her connections, but the bad guys don't hesitate to go after her.  I love the family.

I'll Be Watching You has things finally breaking for Margo but with no less danger. The nurse agrees to talk to her and ends up dead.  Her death has a cataclysmic effect.  Margo is no longer willing to accept that her dad doesn't know anything.  She pushes her mother, her father, the assistant to the doctor who was murdered and refuses to stop.  She knows her parents thought if her dad confessed that everything would end and no people would be killed. Now if the killer is not stopping, the truth needs to come out.

I love Margo.  Her family supports her this time, even though her mother and father still fight her initially.  But when there is a threat against her dad they finally agree.  Margo also has great support from the DEA agent, Cal she met in the last big case.  They are building their relationship during this investigation.  Cal also is an awesome cook.  As a federal agent, he does have skills and resources and so he backs her up on some dangerous interviews.

Tess and Louisa dig into the computer side trying to figure out the financial motives and connections.  Margo and Jack and sometimes Louisa are out interviewing witnesses.  Quincy, Niko's boyfriend is being the bodyguard for her mother and other family members as needed.  The family ups their security during the investigation.

I just wanted to keep reading!  There was great action and twisty bits of information, along with emotional family and relationship moments.  These are amazing characters with skills and passion.  I can't wait to see their next adventure.

Hillary Huber is one of my favorites.  It takes me a minute to settle because I have heard her perform so many different characters.  I was comfortable with her voice for Margo and the others; she is the characters for me.  Her storytelling really enhanced my enjoyment.  I listened at my usual  1.5x speed.

Allison Brennan just knows how to write a solid mystery. I’ll Be Watching You is the third Angelhart Investigations book, and apparently I decided starting with book three was a perfectly reasonable life choice. 😂 The good news? I enjoyed it so much that now I need to go back and read the first two.

The mystery centers around Margo Angelhart and the question that has been hanging over her family for more than three years: why did her father confess to a murder Margo is convinced he didn’t commit? When someone connected to his old case reaches out to Margo and then winds up murdered, suddenly that question becomes much more dangerous.

And from there… things get wild.

I loved the twists and turns in this one. Every time I thought I had a decent handle on where Brennan was taking the story, another piece of information shifted everything slightly sideways. There are secrets underneath secrets, people who definitely know more than they’re saying, and that wonderful mystery-reader feeling of constantly wondering, Okay, but who can I actually trust here?

What surprised me, though, was how invested I became in the Angelhart family itself. The family dynamics add so much more emotional weight to the investigation because clearing Cooper’s name isn’t simply another case for them. This is their father. Their husband. Their family history. And everyone has been carrying the fallout differently.

I especially liked the tension surrounding Ava and everything she has kept from her children. I understood Margo’s frustration with her, because seriously… WOMAN, TALK. 😂 But those secrets also made the family relationships much more complicated and interesting than they would have been if everyone had simply joined forces from page one.

There is a lot happening as the investigation expands into something much bigger than one murder, but the story kept me engaged throughout. Brennan balances the investigation, danger, family relationships, and conspiracy without losing the mystery that started everything.

And now I’m left with a completely different problem.

I need books one and two.

Apparently reading a series in numerical order is merely a suggestion. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The shocks don’t end there. Margo discovers that her mother, Ava, has been keeping a devastating secret from the family - one that could explain why Cooper confessed to a crime he didn’t commit. Because Ava knows the reason behind his confession, Margo and the rest of the Angelhart Investigations team finally come together to clear Cooper’s name.

But the fight to prove her father’s innocence leads to something much bigger. The deeper Margo and her family dig, the closer they come to uncovering dangerous secrets. So ultimately, I moderately enjoyed this, but it was a bit of a bumpy ride. Why? For two main reasons.

First, I figured everything out well beforehand, so I felt like I was just along for the ride. An entertaining ride, but I never found it particularly suspenseful. Not every thriller has to be, of course, but the description does promise suspense, so I was expecting a little more.

Second, there are too many characters and subplots, which made it difficult to focus on the main threads. I spent so much time trying to keep everything and everyone straight that I couldn’t fully engage with the overall plot.

That being said, I did enjoy quite a bit of this, particularly the beginning, when the family is trying to sort out their parent’s secrets. This is the third book in the series, but they can all be read as standalones. It absolutely stood on its own, but I do think having the knowledge from the previous books would have helped with keeping everything straight. A lot of the information and character history would already have been familiar to the reader, allowing them to focus more on what makes this particular book unique instead of feeling overwhelmed by everything being introduced.

I read the audiobook, and while I enjoyed narrator Hillary Huber very much and thought she did a great job, I think the way this was written made me wish I had read the text instead. I plan to read it again once I receive a print copy, but I wanted to share my initial reaction.

If you enjoy police-procedural-style mysteries with a familiar twist, this may be right up your alley, and I think you’ll get more out of it than I did.

This is the third story featuring the Angelhart family.

In this story Private investigator Margo Angelhart has recently rejoined her family's Investigators business, after starting her own PI Agency when she refused to accept her father’s guilty plea. Although she is back, she is still determined to prove that her father Dr. Cooper Angelhart did not kill Dr. Devin Klein.
Her father was found with Dr. Klein’s body also with a gun. He admitted guilt and accepted the punishment and currently is serving time. Her mother stood by his side, accepting his decision to say he was guilty as he wanted to protect someone. She and the family accepted his fate.
That is except for Margo she was like a dog with a bone and wants to get to the bottom.

As Margo starts her investigation she gets a phone call from Liz Swanson, a nurse who worked with her father and has concerns about a missing patient's file. She wants to meet with Margo. However, before they met, Liz and her husband are found dead!

As she continues to investigate, yes, the entire family is put into danger as someone does not want the truth revealed!

Story kept me curious but at times I thought it was a bit long with new characters popping up- some were interesting, others not so much.
I did love Margo relationship with her dad.

PI Margo Angelhart has finally rejoined the family's investigation business. Margo has settled in for the most part, she is now part of a team whereas before she was on her own. There is still one thing that Margo continues to investigate, her father's murder conviction. She knows that he is innocent. A nurse, who worked with her father, reaches out, but before they can meet the nurse and her husband are killed. Things become even more suspicious when her father is transferred in the middle of the night to a to a penitentiary out of state. It is time for Ava, Margo's mom, to tell the family the truth.

This is a fast paced mystery, but the real enjoyment is how the family works together to uncover the secrets and corruption that put Dr. Cooper Angelhart in the position that he now finds himself. There are multiple POVs, but by and large, Margo's is the main voice. The Angelharts are all well developed characters. There is some romance as the relationship between Margo and DEA Agent Cal Rafferty is moving along.

If you are a fan of this series, you will not be disappointed. The author provides enough background that this can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading the previous books for a complete backstory on the Angelharts and their family dynamics, especially Margo's.

Highly addictive from start to finish! The Angelhearts have been doing a fine job of wrapping themselves around reader's hearts, so getting to the center of what really happened with dad Cooper all those years ago is really rewarding. This book is filled with heart, redemption and so much mystery. I love that Margo stood tall in her faith about her dad, and seeing her finally get some answers just feels right. The family as a whole is great and I know there is so much more to build on for them all and hope we will continue to join them as one mystery after another comes into their lives as their family settles back into a peace they've been greatly missing. Well developed characters, a fairly good follow through of keeping a reader up to date on past happenings even if they are starting with this book in the series and great chemistry as they right wrongs.

I highly recommend this book as well as the rest in the series to anyone who enjoys a tight knit family of investigators who have had their share of ups and downs in life and with each other but always stand behind one another when the going gets tough. Great intrigue and relationships.

This is the third installment in the Angelhart Investigations series, and the entire crew makes an appearance in this book. Margo’s father, Cooper, confessed to murder and she’s never believed he was guilty, and her parents have never shared why he pled guilty. When a nurse from Cooper’s past claims to have potential evidence, she is murdered before Margo can meet with her. Now all the secrets from what happened years ago when her dad pled guilty to murder begin to surface and finding the real murderer may put the entire family at risk.

Brennan has a way with writing tension, suspense and twists that keep you engaged and turning the page. I enjoyed the addition of multiple personal storylines of the Angelhart relationships and the conclusion for the underlying “what happened with Cooper” thread woven throughout all the books.

Allison Brennan does not disappoint. The Angelhart Investigations series is one of my favorites. I love the extended family dynamics and the fact the tension feels realistic. This is the third installment in the series, but I feel like these books can be read as stand alones, though the first two books do really build up to this story about Cooper.

Margo has always believed in her father's innocence and was exiled from her family for refusing to accept his guilty plea. There were a lot of characters to keep track of but I felt like there were enough call backs to keep them straight. The story had a really great pace and I never felt like things slowed down, something was always happening. I don't want to spoil anything with specifics but I found the crime and the why so interesting, I don't think I've read a book so far with a similar topic.

I adore the Angelhart family, and am thrilled to read the ARC to the 3rd book in the series. The family’s business Angelhart Investigations is also a business of family dynamics with a variety of personalities. In I’ll Be Watching You it is imperative that it's all hands on deck when Margo, who never believed her father killed a man, finds facts to prove his innocence. And oh what a convoluted plot it is and as each member takes part in the investigation you learn more about their abilities and place in the business as piece by piece they dig into the evil plot. The reader will find twists and turns, suspense, and a well done procedural from beginning to end. While some may find the chapters being from multiple viewpoints, it really works for the team and their incomparable abilities to work together and pull their weight to solve the case and protect each other and it will surely provide possibilities for some great investigations in the future.

The Angelharts are back, and this time, they’re solving their own family’s mystery. Margo, along with the series’ loyal readers, finally find out why Margo’s father confessed to a murder he didn’t commit. This story was fast-paced and a nice reward for readers who have been wanting answers to why Dr. Cooper Angelhart was in prison since the start of the series. There were a lot of character names to keep up with, but not all of them turn out to be important. A good mystery novel needs some red herrings, after all. There are perspectives from almost all of the family and even some of the bad guys, but Margo’s first person perspective remains the focus. While the extensive cast of Angelhart family members and close friends would likely be too much to handle for an unfamiliar reader, this is a must read for those familiar with the series!

I ended up feeling pretty mixed about this one. The premise hooked me right away, and I was excited to see where the mystery would go. There was always something happening, so I never felt bored, and I definitely wanted to know how everything was going to come together.

That said, I think this one was just a little too packed with characters and plot threads for me. I found myself having to stop and remember who people were a few times, and some of the twists felt more complicated than they needed to be. I also didn't connect with the characters as much as I was hoping, so some of the emotional moments didn't land for me.

Overall, it's a solid thriller with enough suspense to keep the pages turning, but it wasn't especially memorable once I finished. I'm still a fan of Allison Brennan and would absolutely pick up another one of her books, this one just wasn't a standout for me.

Margo is not going to give up trying to figure out why her dad confessed to a murder. But her digging starts getting people killed and a target on her entire family's back. To say this was a page turner is an understatement. To say that I held my breath at certain points wouldn't be a lie. I was so caught up (and worried about a certain thing maybe happening) that I actually went so far as to message the author to thank her for taking the story in a particular direction. Yeah, I am not telling you! Read the book! But read the others first so you can get a good solid feel for the Angelhart family and the others in their inner circle. This series is great and I can't wait to see where it goes from here!

– I couldn’t wait to start the next adventure of the Angelhart Investigations. What makes this series so much fun to read is the family dynamics and how well they really work together. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they stand up for each other. The characters are well developed, the plot is strong and the suspense and twists keep you turning the pages. This time Margo and her family are trying to solve who framed and threatened her dad to free him from prison. By Margo following the clues, talking to people that her father knew or worked with is putting the family in danger. Read to find out whether Margo’s dad is cleared of murder charge and who set him up. I highly recommend this series or any book by Allison Brennan.

I absolutely love Margo and the Angelhart family - Brennan's Angelhart Investigations series is a must read. I'll Be Watching You focuses on the Angelhart family and Margo's ongoing quest to uncover why her father (Dr. Cooper Angelhart) confessed to a murder that she knows in her heart he did not commit. I enjoyed seeing more of Margo's mother and siblings as well as her relationship with DEA agent Cal Rafferty continue to develop. I did find some of the dialogue stilted at times, though this did not distract from the story. I'm already looking forward to what Brennan might next have in store for Margo & company.

Angelhart Investigations is a family affair with each sibling and significant others contributing their strengths to each investigation. This one picks up where the second book left off with the family working together to get their dad out of prison. Not only is it a well paced thriller with great characters, but the family connections, drama, and engagement keeps the characters endearing and believable for the reader. This can easily be read as a stand alone but I strongly recommend starting with "You'll Never Find Me" the first book in the series and reading them in order. I also recommend the Quinn & Costa series by Allison Brennan as well. Highly recommended

I’m a huge fan of the Angelheart series and the big, complicated family at its heart! This was another fantastic thriller that really digs into the heart of the Angelheart family and the wounds that have been affecting them since the very first book.

The characters each have their own unique quirks and personalities, which makes them so much fun to follow. The story kept me turning the pages, and before I knew it, I was at the end!

If you love thrillers with a strong family dynamic, plenty of twists, and characters you can’t help but get invested in, I definitely recommend checking out the Angelheart series!
