I started running Pendragon this year, and it's swiftly turned into one of my favorite RPGs. It's a great system, with well researched material that fully enables one to live out the Arthurian legend of your dreams, be it a gritty and realistic historical slog, or a merry jaunt through fantastic and romantic adventure!
But, one area where it has been undeniably frustrating is the form and manner it has taken in this, its 6th edition release. I've been comparably lucky to others, having gotten into it semi recently, but imagine how frustrated I'd have been if I jumped on the boat right away with the release of the "core book", and then found out how many years would have to transpire before I could get ahold of the other tomes to which it constantly referred! Everywhere, references stating "to learn more about this, read the Gamemaster's Handbook" or "The Nobles Handbook", two volumes which, with the core, were meant to be the "trio of Core books" (not to mention the occasional reference to a "Campaign Kit", which was scrapped at some point and replaced with a GM Screenpack).

Well, at last it's here, the final, third book, rounding out the core rules entirely, providing a complete and total experience in these three volumes!
... Except for the stuff waiting to be released one day in "Knights and Ladies Adventurous". Yes, there's ANOTHER book coming out, to which Nobles Handbook here refers. This book advertises rules for generating a player Lady character... But crack the book, and it says that presented within are the abridged rules, suitable only for NPCs or very minimal character. "Look forward Knights and Ladies Adventurous!" It says.
Already I've felt mildly drained by these books, which have spread themselves out across three purchases, when I believe Pendragon of yesteryear managed it all in one. They're full of good stuff... But also plenty of padding and fluff, no doubt designed to force you into making as many purchases as possible.
It's this experience that has made me sour; I was very specifically looking and waiting for guidance On some of the the things this book advertises, and yet, to be told "now go see volume 19 for the FULL rules", has made me skeptical of Chaosium's sense of customer satisfaction.

It's frustrating, because there IS a lot of good things in this book; horse breeding, how to run a manor... If only I hadn't thought I was done being given the runaround.
