4 Star review Daisy McDare and The Deadly Rock Star Affair (Daisy McDare #5) by KM Morgan
Audio Review:
Book five of the series and was an entertaining cozy mystery that I enjoyed listening to as the narrator Donna G Soto was new to me.
Daisy McDare is on holiday and yet murder seems to follow her no matter where she goes. This time her cousin is the one in need, accused of a miser she didn’t commit. Can Daisy work the clues and save her cousin? Or is she destined to fail?
I enjoyed the storyline and the narrator did a good job.
This was a very short read. So much so that it felt insubstantial. It made it difficult for me to stay interested. I also had a hard time with the relatively long introduction to all the characters at the beginning of the book. This is the 5th in the series so I don't think we need such long introductions when the book is already less than 200 pages.
Donna Soto does a great job narrating. I like the different accents.
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
In Book 5 Daisy McDare is planning to spend her vacation with her close cousin Addison whom she has not seen in awhile. Addison works as an assistant for a wash up rock star and he ends up dead after Daisy’s arrival as her cousin is prime suspect.
Daisy finds herself trying to prove her innocent despite her cousin was seen visiting him late that night by neighbors. Suspects include his former wife who caught him cheating with the nanny whom he end up marrying and his grown son who he belittle that same night.
Daisy finds herself making enemies along the way as she searches the truth among the cupcakes and chocolate. You don’t mess with Daisy when she sets her mind on solving a case. This is another winner by the author in this series.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. This is another Daisy McDare classic! I love how the author keeps you guessing up to the end and explains Daisy's logic of figuring out who committed the crime. The characters are never over the top but have different traits that make them interesting to the story development. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I chose to listen to this book after receiving a free audio copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Daisy McDare & the Deadly Rockstar Affair is a novella with a listening time of a little over 3 hours. It’s the fifth book in the Daisy McDare cozy mystery series.
Daisy is an interior decorator but it seems that every time she turns around, she’s solving a murder instead. It’s not something she really wants to do, and she decides she needs to get away for a few days, so she goes to visit her cousin.
Her cousin works for a rock star who is past his prime. Unfortunately, he’s not a very nice person and is murdered. Her cousin is the main suspect! Of course, Daisy has to clear her cousin’s name, so she’s back to solving a murder on her vacation. There are several people who are suspects but Daisy figures out who the murderer is in record time.
The narrator, Donna Soto, was okay. Her pronunciation and timing are good. Her voice doesn’t fit this series though. In my opinion, the narrator’s voice should sound younger and perkier.
I recommend Daisy McDare & the Deadly Rock Star Affair to anyone who likes cozy mysteries and quick reads. I’m looking forward to listening to more of the Daisy McDare series.
I was given a free review copy audio-book by the author courtesy of Audiobook Boom at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This is the first book I have read of this series, Daisy McDare Six Book Cozy Mystery Set. Daisy is spending her vacation on a visit with her cousin, Addison, who she hasn’t seen in a while. Addison works for a very needy, has-been rock star, Blaze Billick, who won’t let her have the day off. Daisy ends up witnessing drama unfold at a party she attends to be with Addison while she works. After Addison gets accused of her boss’ murder later that night, Daisy has to go into full investigation mode to prove her cousin is innocent. There are many other suspects, but Addison was seen coming from Blaze’s mansion in the late hours of the night, so she is the prime suspect. This was a pretty good book that kept me guessing.
This was a gifted audio collection of book 5 to book 11. Goodreads doesn't have this collection so I am reviewing each book as I finish it. This is book 5 in the series Daisy McDare. Daisy is on vacation in this book but that doesn't stop her from getting involved in a murder. If you are a hard core mystery fan this series is not for you. But if you want a lite cozy mystery then this a good choice. Donna Soto is the narrator in this collection and she does a good job but I am not a fan of her voice. I find my thoughts wondering and not really listening at times and have to go back and listen again. All in all I liked the audio book.
Daisy McDare and the Deadly Rock Star Affair (Daisy McDare #4), my fifth read/listen from author K.M. Morgan, although I own sixteen of her books I’d never gotten around to reading one until I read The Deadly Floral Affair. Each book has been better than the one before, a well-written clean cozy mystery. Since I own both the Kindle & Audible editions I was able to read along while listening. Narrator Caroline Shively talented narration added to the book's enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Daisy is taking a brief vacation to go visit her cousin Addison. Unfortunately a washed up rock star and Addison’s employer ends up dead. To make matters worse the detective on the case thinks she’s guilty!
Daisy sets out to find the real killer and clear her cousins name.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
I enjoyed this story, and Donna G Soto did a good job making the characters feel three dimensional. The interactions between Daisy and the suspects were interesting, and just the right amount of clues were hidden within those conversations. This was an enjoyable story and listen.
I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Daisy is visiting her cousin and thinking she can finally have a break from sleuthing murders on top of her decorating job, but her cousins Rock star employer is found murdered and her cousin is a prime suspect. Daisy puts her vacation on hold to find the real killer before her cousin takes the fall.
Daisy McDare and the Deadly Rock Star Affair (Daisy McDare #5) by K.M. Morgan was a great read. This is the fifth book in The Daisy McDare Series. Daisy was on vacation when a rock star turns up dead. It is up to Daisy to prove that her cousin isn't the killer.
Format: audiobook Narrator: Donna Soto Same/similar plot as another cosy mystery but an enjoyable enough listen. In ch 10 The line “If it weren’t for me no one would have heard it” stutters like the recording got stuck.
I found this on Amazon and thought I would give it a read, glad I did. Was easy and fun. Now to go back and read the first 4 books in the series before moving on.
This is another book in the Daisy Mcdare cozy mystery series. Daisy investigates yet another murder, this time to clear the name of her cousin. Fun story, interesting spin.
Daisy goes for a weekend vacation to see her cousin Adison, who works for Blaze a rockstar gone quiet. But life is not quiet in the world of Blaze. Can Daisy save Adison?
I received free a 3 book set evidently no longer offered. which included The Deadly Art Affair. The Deadly Legal Affair, and The Deadly Directorial Affair -- those are in order book 1 then 2 then 3 of the series. The background information is repetitious unless you are reading stand alone books, so in a set is very, very repetitious. For example, I do not need to be told, each and every story, just who her grandmother is. The stories seem to be trying to be a cross between murder she wrote and Agatha Christie, but with clues which ended up solving the case not really mentioned or buried in unnecessary story side trips. I must have read at least one if not more of these stories before because the endings held little surprise nonetheless, although that could just be the 'formula'. This 'formula' is present in all the books and is, to say the least, aggravating.
The Deadly Art Affair --The Deadly Legal Affair --The Deadly Directorial Affair--The Deadly Real Estate Affair--The Deadly Rock Star Affair--The Deadly Restaurant Affair--The Deadly Secret Affair--The Deadly Rival Affair
BUT Daisy McDare Three Book Set The Deadly Rock Star Affair--The Deadly Restaurant Affair--The Deadly Secret Affair is 4 5 6 Not 1 2 3 which seems to no longer be available as a set
Then being so horrible at names, got the above 3 set then the 3 set directly above then the 8 book set, and thought my head was going to implode; the only reason don't give her or any writer a 1 is because save that rating for shape shift or other like books that say in title something such as shapeshift for first word, then romance in second word, then turn out to be a badly written excuse for soft porn.
Kindle Unlimited, save some $, once you've read one you've pretty much read them all. Typos, murder she didn't write {well} redundant/unnecessary, and if someone really ate like that no they would not be rail think unless they were a purger, but all this did remind me to make sure had rated and reviewed the Witches of Wisteria she does, wouldn't want people to get the wrong idea about those, either. Different set/books in sets depending on which one/ones you get.
Date off on all these, some of the ones forgot to review for goodreads.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Daisy McDare and the Deadly Rock Star Affair is book five in the series by K.M. Morgan. Generally by book five, a series is almost finished. However, the Daisy McDare series is as strong as ever. I just hope book six is as good as book five. These are easy summer reading books. Daisy McDare, interior designer, is headed to Murphy’s Meadow to visit her cousin Addison. It has been a long time since she has seen Addison even though they live relatively close. Daisy is looking forward to getting to know Addison again and getting a lot of rest while enjoying the lake that Murphy’s Meadow is famous for. On her arrival, she has to face the fact that Addison has to work that day and a gala tonight; but is promised the next two days off. Daisy knows that Blaze Billick chances his mind in an instant so isn’t sure of her cousin getting the time off. As a consolation, Addison has gotten Daisy a ticket to the gala. At the gala, Daisy manages to not only meet Daisy but to get his autograph. He doesn’t usually give autographs so this is a first. As they are talking, his ex-wife comes up and argues with him. His current wife, the former nanny, comes up as well but she is drunk. Blaze goes off with her. Blaze also has a run-in with his ex-friend, Steele Stringer. Steele tells him that his daughter, Gwen just told him she and Blaze’s son Mason are engaged. Both fathers are enraged over the engagement. Blaze confronts Mason and gives him an ultimatum- his inheritance or Gwen. He then walks off to receive a lifetime award from the Mayor and City Council. After that, Steel sings his new song and Blaze tries to come up with one of his own; but can’t. Instead, he steals the one Addison wrote and put in a demo for Blaze. Now Addison is mad too. Early the next morning, the police arrive at Addison’s apartment to tell them that Blaze was murdered and they were to take Addison to Blaze’s home where the police detective would like to interview her. As they get dressed, Addison tells Daisy that she had gone to Blaze’s home last night to talk to him. He had called her. He wanted to go into a partnership with her- her writing songs and his singing them. Addison had come on home after that; but she swore she did not kill him. As the police investigate, it becomes clear to Daisy that they are trying to blame it on Addison. There was no way Addison killed anyone, so Daisy gets involved to prove her innocence. This was just what she didn’t want on her mini-vacation. She sets out to interview all the suspects to see what she can find. This is a great book. It is an easy summer read. Along with the others, it is a great series. Now for book six!
I really really need that half star Goodreads! I want to go at least 3.5 stars. If you have read and enjoyed the Daisy McDare novels before this, you will not want to miss this one. It is as enjoyable and COZY but did not have as difficult a plot as the previous books. It is fun to read and you will compare your thoughts to Daisy's as each suspect is checked out, but this is the simplest storyline of the series. You still may find who--dunnit to be a twist.
Even taking time to relax and reconnect with a favorite cousin can not guarantee Daisy that her sleuthing skills won't be put to a test. At first, their leisurely weekend is pushed back by a day so cousin Addison can attend an important event in her boss's life. The plus side is that Daisy can attend the gala and the free food is wonderful. Usually the McDare girls are all about the sweets, but this buffet is worth dressing up for. The "entertainment" turns out to be different than expected as scorned wives with uninhibited voices share all their dirty secrets and irritations in a very public space. if you think you have a BAD BOSS - Addison can tell you a few things herself. Is she really putting up with him to move her musical dreams forward? Daisy's role in this book is based on the sentiment that Family is Family.
I just could not connect to her interrogation talents, or lack thereof, in this installment of the series. The investigating author was not as much of a challenge to Daisy as her usual foil, Det. Crumble. While it was good to have Gaven help with the crime, I can't say that he added enough. And best friend Samantha and Granny Annie also had a cameo appearance. I did received a copy of the book from the author in eschange for my honest review. It is a very quick read. Here is my spoiler alert: (so don't read if you don't want an extra clue)
I would have added a line about Samantha's baking being much better, spoken aloud.
This is the 5th book in the series and I am still enjoying them!! Daisy has gone out of town for the weekend to visit her cousin Addison. They hadn’t seen each other in a while and it was time to reconnect. When Daisy arrives, she is met by an upset Addison. It seems that Addison’s boss, the has been rock star Blaze Billick has decreed that Addison must work a gala event that night where he is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. The good news is that Addison has procured Daisy a ticket to the event that night. That night is a total failure. His ex-wife attacks him demanding more money, his current wife is drunk, he’s confronted by ex-band mate Steele Stringer because their children were now engaged and Steele wants Blaze to put an end to it. Finally, Steele performs his newest song, the one that’s going to launch his comeback career and Blaze isn’t about to be one-upped by him. Singing a song that Addison had written and claiming it as his own, Blaze has now wowed everyone in attendance. Well, everyone who isn’t so angry at him that they want to kill him. Of course, Blaze is killed that night and immediately everyone is suspected, but the detective has gone one step further and proclaimed that Daisy’s cousin Addison is his prime suspect. Daisy only has the rest of the weekend that she’s in town to clear her cousin’s name and find the real killer. K.M. Morgan is one of the best cozy mystery author’s I have read. This series has kept me entertained and intrigued the whole way through and I am about to start the next book in the series. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Granny Annie is still my favorite. I love her spunky attitude! I hope I am half that spunky when I’m her age!

Relative is accused of murder so once again she is investigating. These are enjoyable and fun to read and listen to. Given Arc Audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
This is the 5th book in the Daisy McDare Cozy Mystery series. Daisy McDare plans a vacation to visit her close cousin Addison. Addison, hopes to break in to the music/recording industry. In the interim Addison is working as an assistant for a wash up rock star, Blaze Billick. Soon after Daisy’s arrival, rock star Blaze Billick is found murdered and Addison is the prime suspect. In classic Daisy fashion, she must investigate to prove Addison’s innocence. Daisy finds herself making enemies along the way as she searches the truth among a long list of suspects including his former wife who caught him cheating with the nanny whom he end up marrying and his grown son who he criticizes that same night. Cupcakes and chocolate provide the energy and comfort to keep Daisy and Addison fortified.
Having read the previously released books in the series and can honestly state this there is significant improvement and growth in the authors writing ability! There is far more attention to detail, character development, the plot and overall editing. If you enjoy a short and sweet cozy mystery the Daisy McDare series is ideal. The best book in this series to date.
I won this novel from another author as a part of a free book giveaway contest.
Daisy McDate and the Deadly Rock Star Affair is similar to the other books that I received as a part of the giveaway package, but thankfully it had some differences to the other novels Killer Finale (Cozy Mystery) and A Novel To Die For
Daisy is spending the weekend with her cousin, Addison, who is the personal assistance to a ex-rock star. The rock star is found dead after a major gala and there are plenty of suspects including Addison.
The novel was short and simple and it was a good whodunnit, since I had no idea who the killer was until it was revealed. However the plot is largely unbelievable that Daisy would be allow to interview all of the suspects in a town that she is visiting in.
Daisy gets a chance to spend a weekend with her cousin, Addison. She and Addison were close growing up but lately their careers have kept them apart. But when she gets to her cousin's place, she is disappointed to find that Addison has to work part of the time. Luckily her job entails working for a rock star and this weekend's concert marks his debut of his first new song in years. Armed with an extra stage pass, Daisy joins her cousin at the concert and is witness to several angry exchanges with the aging rock star. And then Addison becomes furious when the rocker debuts a song she wrote and claims it as his own. When his dead body is found later on, Addison becomes the prime suspect. Of course Daisy has to conduct her own investigation to clear her cousin's name. This is an enjoyable cozy mystery series that provides light entertainment. Daisy's character keeps growing in confidence with each adventure...in this one, she was downright bold in her questioning of suspects. Can she solve the murder? I look forward to the next book on this series.
Daisy McDare hasn't seen her cousin, Addison, in quite a while so she goes to visit her for a few days. Addison is an assistant to an old rock star who is very demanding and not very nice to be around. He has given her the time off to visit with Daisy but calls her to come in just before Daisy arrives.
When the rock star winds up dead and Addison is the prime suspect, Daisy starts investigating to find the real killer and prove her cousin is innocent. As Daisy talks to the other suspects, she makes a lot of enemies. But cupcakes help her through the stress.
K.M. Morgan’s well written and polished style brings this story to life. This book, like the rest of the series, is full of suspense and humor with a nice fast pace. The easy way in which she draws readers into her world creates a fantastic backdrop for her wonderful story. I love Daisy and the murders she gets herself involved in. I haven't read one of Morgan's stories that I haven't enjoyed.
Please note I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
K.M. Morgan Has a great Character in Daisy. I look forward to seeing how she progresses. K.M. Morgan's writing is improving with every book. This was a quick read. One of the things I have a hard time when reading is when the author switches between characters while telling a story. Not sure I can explain it but here is a simplest way I can think of to do so. When 2 people are talking in a book and the story is being told by the main character. Then out of the blue you will be getting a point of view from a different character and then back to the main one. I have a really hard time following when that happens. I have to stop and think about what is really happening and who is feeling that way. That said, when i first started reading this series K.M. Morgan did this all the time. Now I can only think of it happening in one of the chapters.
Keep it up K.M. Morgan I want to see where Daisy goes from here.
