Oh what a stunningly cosy book!
It was a little slow to start and I wasn’t sure but once I got in to it I fell in love with the characters. I loved all the different creatures and I feel like everyone needs an Edgar in their lives!
I feel like if you’re a fan of Sarah Beth Durst or Travis Baldree you will adore this too.

What happens when an author with a knack for compelling dark fantasy novels decides to veer away from grim and gloomy in favor of cozy and witchy? With that question in mind (and absolutely no prior experience with the genre), I dove into The Cozy Cauldron Cab Co..
Mitsi Blunderlock's story starts at a very relatable moment when she leaves the family home in search of her true calling. Yes, this is not a story about dark ancient forces spelling doom for the entire planet. Instead, it's a heart-warming tale of a young witch embarking on a journey of self-discovery and trying to find her place in the world (and becoming a bona fide entrepreneur in the process).
Speaking of the world, it teems with life and is full of creatures ranging from fairy-tale animals to mythical beasts. Most of them play a meaningful part in the story and are truly memorable. Neighborly harpies, a friendly werewolf, a family of opossums, phoenixes - they are not just set dressing but supporting characters who really matter and make Mitsi's journey more unique.
As for the story, The Cozy Cauldron Cab Co. is a perfect read for those looking for some respite from everyday hustle and bustle. Mitsi's adventure is full of heart-warming moments, a lot of which revolve around Marivell's close-knit community whose members look after one another, wish each other well, and are genuine in their intentions. Sounds too utopian? Perhaps, but it also goes on to show how much can be achieved with community spirit and a modicum of unselfishness.
Lastly, I'm happy to say the genre change has not impacted the author's overall writing style, which is still top-notch. The language used throughout the book is rich, varied, and shows the author's impressive lexicon. Adults will appreciate it, while younger readers will get an opportunity to enrich their vocabulary.

To start off, this book was cozy, comfy, stuffed with whimsy and one-liners, and absolutely adorable. If you're looking for a book where everyone is kind, all endings are happy, and both the family of origin and the found family are just delightful, this is the book for you.
The good:
It starts out with an amazing, almost Hitchiker's-esque line and keeps that level of funny to the end. I cackled with laughter numerous times.
Mitsi is a witch who is good at most things witchy, with one notable exception: she can't fly. Or, more accurately, she can fly for short distances until her "committed relationship with gravity" gets in the way. But her family still loves her and wants the best for her. The best for her turns out to be a new city and a new life, as directed to her by the tea leaves. In Marivell Mitsi finds friends, a calling, encounters a few difficulties and has a few accidents, but always manages to end up on top with her endearing smile in place.
Big thanks to the author for understanding the importance of the Oxford comma. I was a fan as soon as I saw the first one.
The meh:
The writing style was a bit monotonous in some areas. Sentence structure tended to repeat the same patterns, which I always find makes the reading a bit tedious. It's not noticeable the entire book, though.
Mitsi seemed to miss the most obvious things. For one, she starts a cab company but somehow never thinks to advertise in any way. She doesn't even get the name of her company written on her cab until neighbors do it for her, but is somehow astounded that no one knows she's running a cab company. Granted, she's 18 and I'm assuming even in a magical world 18 year olds are just as oblivious as in ours, but none of the adults in her world think of it until halfway through the book either. One character has a conversation with her about advertising, but no one thinks to mention it to her as an option, which felt a bit strange to me.
The whole is book on the twee side, so if you're not a fan of or in the mood for that level of sweetness, this won't be the book for you.
The overall:
I'm giving this book 5/5 because I had a great time start to finish, which honestly is my personal metric for reviews. It's whimsical, it's fun, and it's a great feel-good story. And it leaves room for a sequel without feeling like you're not getting this story resolved. I will absolutely be buying a physical copy when it hits the shelves.

I finished this book thinking about Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, and I mean that as the highest compliment. That's the spirit running through The Cozy Cauldron Cab Company by Nathan Ashford, a whole town built on the same let's-work-together, we-can-do-it, peaceful energy Mr. Rogers spent a career trying to teach kids. This isn't a book for toddlers, though the nods to Mr. Rogers early on make total sense once you see where the story goes.
Chapter one drops a line that ends up carrying the entire book: "Don't measure yourself against others. It will only serve to debilitate you." That's a lesson for readers of any age, and it sets the tone for everything that follows.
There isn't a real villain here and no disaster to overcome. Mitsi is working toward something and finding herself along the way, with a few small mishaps thrown in. That's part of what makes this book cozy rather than a story chasing a bigger conflict.
The descriptions of the characters and the setting painted a full picture in my head without pulling focus from the story. Every character is endearing in their own way, and that's what gives the whole town its coziness. This gave me the same peaceful feeling I get from the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, which is one of the best things I can say about a book.
This one stands complete on its own. It also leaves room for more stories from this town, and there's already a second book planned. I'm looking forward to it, and hopeful this turns into a series that keeps going.
This is a good fit for readers of any age, and especially the ones who want something gentle to read between heavier books.

This was so a heartwarming and entertaining, low stakes, cozy fantasty. It was full of found family and a satisfying character growth in our main character, Mitsi.
I felt like I was constantly smiling at Mitsi bumbling about in her pumpkin cab, and the gorgeous interactions she had with her neighbours.
It was just so wholesome and beautiful, with some meaningful takeaway messages. I loved that Mitsi found community and family in her neighbours. It was really endearing, watching her grow from her uncertainty and feelings of inadequacy in comparison to her sister, perfect Parsnips. How she overcame her initial resentment and fears for the future was incredibly inspirational and resilient.
There was a chapter about a relocated ghost who, once settled, he was incredibly dismayed to find out he had neighbours. It was so funny! There was also another chapter called For Whom (in Marivell) The Bell Tolls, which had me all teary eyed and emotional. That was such a beautiful scene and it really clicked (more than ever) how much I had loved reading this story and getting to know the inhabitants of the town.
This world made me think of Halloween Town, the Disney movie I absolutely loved as a kid, and it delivered that same cheer and nostalgic joy that rewatching the movie brings me. It also had me thinking of Studio Ghibli's Kiki's Delivery Service!
This was a beautiful begining to a new series and I'll happily await the sequel in 2027.

I give it a 3.5 stars I really enjoyed it….
This book is marketed toward adults in the slice-of-life/cozy fantasy genre, but honestly, it felt like a book I would’ve loved at 8–12 years old. It gave me major Halloweentown vibes and the kind of nostalgic magic I grew up loving. 🥹
Mitsi Blunderlock, a witch inventor’s daughter who’s afraid of flying, heads to Marivell to find her purpose. With a pumpkin-seed cab powered by a cauldron from her dad, she starts a cab company and finds friendship, community, and a family away from home.
The cast of quirky characters was one of my favorite parts — from an opossum baker to an elderly werewolf, harpies, mouse landlords, and a phoenix who spontaneously combusts from anxiety. 😂
And as someone whose dad literally sends her dad jokes all the time, I loved the subtle, cheesy dad jokes sprinkled throughout. They were quirky and cute in the best way. 😂
It’s a low-stakes cozy read, but I became surprisingly invested in these characters and their relationships. There aren’t huge, world-ending conflicts, but I still found myself thinking, “Okay, but is everyone going to be okay?!” 🥹

What a cozy, heartwarming story! A newly graduated witch has a problem many people, of any age, have: finding out what to do with one's life. She finds what many of us want, such as community and one's calling. In her case, she finds her calling as a cab driver of an enchanted pumpkin without a horse.
She doesn't face issues of epic proportions such as fighting evil overlords or saving kidnapped princesses but I was invested in the times she helped her neighbors, like a character going into labor. This reminds the reader that everyday or real-life issues are no less important or crucial than ones a reader might see in more high-stakes fantasy novels.
The book contains the following elements:
-MC trying to find purpose-small town-
MC feeling inferior to a successful sibling
-found family
-witch afraid of flying
-grumpy characters who are won over
-festival
-various magical creatures such as a phoenix, werewolf, pegasus, and so many more

At its heart, it’s about Mitsi, a witch who can do just about everything except fly, who opens her own cab company while trying to find herself, discover her purpose, and figure out where she belongs. Along the way, she finds the most beautiful community that encourages and supports her.
And honestly… we ALL need a village in our corner 🥹🫶🏼

I had such a great time reading this whimsical story of a witch who's main desire in life is to help her fellow creatures.

I spent most of this book with a big smile on my face and toward the end, I was laughing out loud. It was such a feel good story and the characters at times were hilarious - even the tea leaves that wouldn't shut up.

It's just so cosy and nice; it's a good break from the dark stuff I usually read. It's also not one of those books that work illogically. I never thought I'd say that magic could be logical, but here we are.
I also love that Mitsi doesn't magically improve her driving skills; it happens gradually, and with time, we get to see her and other characters grow.
I love how Nathan kept most of the characteristics that the specific animals and/or supernaturals are known for, without making it seem eerie or out of place.
One of my favourite characters in this story is Parsnip; even though she doesn't play a huge role on paper, she clearly affects Mitsi's life. Barnaby is also quite chaotic and lovable; actually, all of these characters are just so damn beautiful. And even the writing is unique; I wonder who the narrator is or if it's just an omnipotent narrator scene.
Reading tea leaves certainly seems stressful 😅

The world of Mitsi that has been created is well told and the author does a great job at communicating her backstory, creating a well rounded character. The stage is set for you to cheer for Mitsi on her journey.
The characters and world in the story are lovely. The descriptions are wonderful and really help paint a picture for the reader.
There are plenty of puns in this cozy story. It’s the perfect read for someone who wants a feel-good tale about perseverance, finding yourself, and chosen family.

When I heard about the vibes for this book, I knew it would be for me. The Cozy Cauldron Cab Co is packed with magic, coziness, and a lot of whimsy. I fell in love with it from the very first few pages, and it quickly became one of my favorite books of the year.
A perfect book for anyone who loves eccentric characters, small town vibes, and witchy magic.
The characters you meet along the way are adorable, kind, and really come to life. I felt like I was walking the streets of Marivell. The imagery, character growth, and story line were great, and I couldn’t put down the book. The writing was easy to follow, detailed, and enjoyable.
I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a cozy read, perfect for fall, or you just love fantastical creatures and witches and want to step into a magical story.

This is my first ARC read and I am beyond happy that it was this story! The Cozy Cauldron Cab Co is such a heartwarming yet funny, positive, found family and self discovery story. There were scenes that brought tears(happy ones) to my eyes. Even given the magic in this story, all the characters are very relatable in their fears and the problems they go through. Seeing everything taking and solved with a positive mindset is a super nice and welcome change to fantasy.
This isn't your typical fantasy of this random person being a chosen one to save the world. Instead its about a young witch setting out to discover herself and her life purpose. Its about finding a sense of self, community, family and belonging. Its absolutely beautiful.

I fell in love with the concept of this book when I stumbled across the author on Instagram. I was blessedly chosen to receive a copy as an ARC reader.
This book doesn’t fall within my typical readying style as it is not in anyway a romance. But let me tell you that does not take a single thing away from this book.

I don't know if this will make sense, but this book was like a children's book written for adults, and I mean that in the best way possible. Reading it, it had such joyful innocence and exuberance and made me feel like I did when I was a child reading. The writing was done in a warm, humorous tone and felt like it had it's own little cozy glow. After reading several books with serious topics, this was the break on my mind and emotions that I didn't know I needed. Sometimes we need something light. Something that feels like a warm hug at the end of the day and this story provided that. The characters were sweet, the plot was well paced, and the writing was full of zest. I know this will become something I'll go back to when I need comfort.

The characters are adorable. Whilst there is minor friction within this story, they really are people you could spend forever reading about. I think my favourite character of all is a small opposom baker named Tessa.
The plot follows a young witch who is looking for her calling. She moves to a new town, and with the help of her fathers inventions and her neighbours (two glorious harpies and an wise old werewolf), she begins a new business venture.
I absolutely adored reading this and look forward to the sequel next summer.

This was a light, feel good warm fuzzy read! An excellent palate cleanser if you’re someone who reads epic fantasies. I enjoyed the ease of reading, the themes of community and perseverance, the charming descriptions of food, cozy mushroom homes, and magical creatures of all kinds!
It’s cozy fantasy so the stakes were low. For me, perhaps a bit too low for my investment. It felt more like a series of short stories with resolutions in between than it did a longer novel. I craved hearing more about the Necromancer War, about the magic systems that exist in the realm, and a bit more character development for Mitsi and (her sister especially)!

This is a really cute, sweet, and heartwarming book. It wasn’t necessarily what I expected, but I loved it all the same. I’m very much a romantasy reader, so this had no spice—just plenty of fantasy. The FMC goes on a journey to find herself, and along the way she not only discovers who she is but also finds a found family. Community is a strong theme here and delivers a genuinely sweet message. The magic is fun, the characters are fabulous, and you grow to love them all. This feels like a YA book that’s perfect for kids, and it would be a lovely one to read together with a child. It carries plenty of good lessons about kindness, responsibility, patience, and more.

I was lucky enough to be selected to read this title as an ARC. Mitsi Blunderlock is a witch with issues - she has just graduated from Gloombubble Academy and she can’t fly! She comes from a loving family but decides to strike out on her own and make a fresh start in the friendly neighbourhood of Marivell. Here, she meets lots of encouraging new friends and decides to create a new business revolving around one of her father’s creations, and so the Cozy Cauldron Cab Co is born! What follows is a warm hug of a book which restores your faith in the power of friendship and kindness. A follow up to this title is due in 2027.

Thank you to the author for the ARC copy of this book! This is the definition of low-stakes cozy book! I loved the whimsy of the idea and how relaxing it felt to read this story. The characters were wonderful and a community we all hope to find one day, which made it feel real even though it was very magical. At times I wished the stakes were a little higher, or that we spent more time exploring the points on conflict in mitsi’s life, but now that I’ve finished the book, that feels a little less necessary. It reminded me of Kiki’s Delivery Service in that way. A young naive witch just trying to find her place in the world and finding a home along the way! Overall, I really enjoyed it!

Definitely a fun read for Halloween time, but I read it by the pool in the heat of summer and even that was great! You will quickly fall in love with Mitsi and find her quite relatable. All of the characters make the town of Marivell a quaint town that is the perfect setting for this story. There's humor throughout the book. The end was great and has left me ready for the next book as I can't wait to see what Mitsi does next!
