About the author

Ashwith Viswakumar spent 22 years at sea, serving in progressively responsible roles before sailing as a Master Mariner from 2010 to 2018. Alongside a maritime career that demanded composure, responsibility, and split-second decision-making under pressure, he carried a lifelong curiosity about how human experience is shaped.

That exploration began in childhood, long before he first went to sea, and quietly accompanied him across every ocean voyage and through every phase of daily life. Over the years, this enduring curiosity deepened, eventually leading him to the practice of Kriya Yoga and a dedicated exploration of self-inquiry.

He views the body and mind not as permanent personal identities to defend, but as remarkable biological instruments to be understood. His work does not present a new philosophy to adopt or a belief system to follow. Instead, it invites readers to investigate their own lives with curiosity and openness, using everyday language grounded in direct observation rather than abstract theory.

Why Do We Exist? is his first book, reflecting years of quiet observation, lived experience, and thoughtful exploration. Rather than offering definitive answers, his hope is to encourage a way of looking that allows readers to discover for themselves the clarity that has always been quietly present beneath the activity of the mind.

Ashwith lives in Kerala, India, where he continues to write, explore, and develop companion resources that expand upon the ideas presented in his books.
