Sometimes you just have to let go of rock bottom, catch the bricks being thrown at you, and build your own foundation. Solid is built on trust, not lies and deceit, and sometimes you have to stop waiting for someone else to build it, and do it yourself.

If happiness is the end result, if it’s that single want that matters, if we had to through that to get here, I’d do it all over again. If it’s the love that matters, then why does it matter how we got there? We were the perfect storm of two kinds of crazy.

I really enjoyed Suit when I read it. I was intrigued by the story line and the characters. When I finished, I was dying for book 2 to come out. Then came Slut. The second book answered a lot of my questions, but also left me with so many more. As a duet, I was hoping to have a little more finality when it was finished. Then, we get a follow up novella, Solid. It clarified many of the things I was wondering from book 2. But then again, we are still left with an unanswered question!

Paxton and Gabriella are two messed up characters. They are
The perfect storm of two kinds of crazy.

and I'm okay with that. Their relationship is so different and more complicated than any other couple. Finding out other bits of their past was hard. It's difficult for me to read that aspect of their relationship. I'm not sure if a relationship that started out this dysfunctional could ever work in real life, but they seem to be defying the odds in their story. As I stated before, I enjoyed the first two books. This wasn't bad by any means, just not quite what I was hoping for. It seems that most of the people who have read and loved the first two also loved this, so it could very well be that I'm in the minority here with it being just an 'okay' read for me!

A Nice Extra

This novella provided a glimpse into the lives of Gabriella and Paxton, as they adjusted to their "new" relationship. To say that they experienced some growing pains is putting it mildly. As Gabriella's memories slowly begin to return, it forces her to reevaluate her feelings for Paxton.

At times, it was unclear whether or not she would be able to separate her hatred for the "old" Paxton from her newfound love for the "new" Paxton. Gabriella isn't sure that she wants to regain her memories and Paxton is terrified of what will happen if she does.

Meanwhile, these two are still harboring secrets. Gabriella has still not told Paxton her worries about the paternity of their children. Sneaking around, trying to solve the mystery on her own, instead. Likewise, Paxton continues to try and sugarcoat his version of past events, fearful of revealing just how horribly he treated her.

As Gabriella's pregnancy progresses, these issues come to a head. While they try to figure things out one step at a time, their relationship evolves into a stronger, healthier, union. Eventually, they get it all figured out, but it doesn't come easy.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novella. It read like an extended Epilogue, providing a more detailed glimpse into their lives after the end of 'Slut'. Lingering questions were answered and loose ends were tied up. It was a quick and worthwhile read.

3 - 3.5 ★'s

What was the point of this novella?

♦ It certainly wasn't to get the answers we were wanting.

♦ It certainly wasn't to get more Paxton and Gabriella fights.

♦ It certainly wasn't to hear Gabriella still doubting Paxton and herself.

♦ And...it certainly wasn't to hear Paxton groveling...although I did sort of like that. ;)

description

But...there is some good news and things are set up nicely for the cul-de-sac spin off with the first book featuring Rowan's teacher, Mr. J, supposedly coming out February 23, 2016.

So overall, there is some progress but definitely no conclusion. I think Paxton summed it up quite nicely with the favorite quote.

Genre: Erotic Romance
Type: Book 2.5 of The Twin Duo
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Solid explored Paxton and Gabriella Pierce’s tumultuous relationship after the ending of Slut. They were still learning to cope with everything that happened, and temper and suspicions seemed to hang above them like dark clouds.

“You’re going to keep doing this. You’re going to keep getting these bits and pieces until you have every one of them. And every time, you’re going to drive another wedge between us. I don’t know how to fix this, but I know it’s not this.”

Honestly, I simply couldn’t see the purpose of this novella. There was nothing new brought up, and nothing much answered from the numerous unaddressed questions from the last book. The only thing I can see is it being used as a vehicle to introduce a new character for a new series. Even that, we barely got anything.

She had my head so fucked up I didn’t know whether I was coming or going, and she’s always there, never leaving my mind for a second.

And the thing that annoyed me the most was Paxton. I love that sexy fucker in the last two books, but he didn’t do anything for me in this one. I thought at least the sex scenes could help, but no, that left me disappointed too.

****4.5 Paxton Stars*****

(ARC kindly provided by author in exchange for an honest review)

I'm writing this review slightly hungover after drinking a whole bottle of wine by myself, courtesy of the emotional roller coaster that is Solid. This novella is short but deadly. We get more Paxton, yumm!!! and of course the always present struggle of not knowing whether you want to slap him or do him.

By now I'm almost addicted to Jettie Woodruff's writing style. The woman knows how to play with my emotions perfectly. She gives you equal amounts of love and pain in all her stories, and I will always be a sucker for that kind of fun in a book...

 photo image_zps0qr3kxct.png

In Solid Gabriella is starting to remember more and every time she gets flashbacks about the past, she compares the very cruel Paxton from before, and the sexy and passionate husband she now loves and adores. It's very hard for her to continue on with life as if nothing ever happened, knowing what a cruel bastard Paxton used to be to her. As a reader I struggled right along with her, he used to be so mean and callous, but the man can sure charm the pants off of any woman and in the end it's impossible not to love him.

Gabriella is hiding a few secrets of her own and Paxton is starting to get nervous because he can feel that something is not quite right with his wife. Paxton has never felt as happy and whole as he feels now but he is tired of always having the feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I love how the author keeps you always guessing until the very end, this made me nervous but I honestly crave that kind of angst when reading a book, which is why this series is perfect for me.

This is a story about a very flawed couple. They are very dysfunctional and nothing about their marriage is conventional but they are truly passionate about their family and their love has proven to get even stronger under the worst of situations. If you are a fan of The Twin Duo Series, reading this novella will feel like getting an awesome Christmas present, because it has everything we have come to love about these characters and so much more. I will be purchasing a few of these novellas as gifts to some of my friends. I know they will love to get a little piece of Paxton, perhaps I'll send the book with a bottle of wine as well, I KNOW they will need it.

I just finished reading this. It's a very quick read and a lot of fun and angst. I have enjoyed Gabby and Pax and this continued part of their story was a fun and, in my opinion, needed addition. I'm grateful to Jettie for giving us more!! Because passion makes all the difference...and so does honesty!! If you've read SUIT and SLUT...do yourself a favor and one-click SOLID as soon as you can!

If there was ever a couple that would absolutely drive me to drink it would be Gabby and Paxton. When I read Suitt I was absolutely in love with these two, even when I didn’t really know who either was. I wanted them to find a way to be happy and raise their children.

In was so anxious for Sult as soon as it landed on my Kindle I jumped right in, I was desperate for answers and read it in one sitting. When I finished I was still a little disappointed, there were still so many unanswered questions and I was frustrated. I didn’t feel like their story was complete. So again when I knew Soild was coming I was again waiting for my big conclusion

I do feel all my questions were answered in Solid, but based on this novella I have no idea how Gabby and Pax will move on. Gabby is slowing regaining her memories and let me tell you they are horrendous. This coming from someone who was a Paxton fan from the beginning. There were moments when I was like, how can she really stay with him? Gabby isn’t the girl she was when she came to live with Paxton and marry him, and while I know this is fiction, I don’t see this ever working out in real life.

I am not sure what else Jettie could have done with these two. I mean their past is what it is, I guess I am a baby and didn't want to see just how horrible it really was. While my love for this story has gradually waned, most continue to love it. Which is awesome and I love that for them, but for me this novella is just okay and I desperately wanted epic.

In Solid, we are immersed in the lives of Pax and Gabriella and how they are trying to move forward in their relationship. From the beginning, Gabby is conflicted as more memories of an abusive past resurface. Pax is committed to his wife and family, but as much as he would like to change history, he cannot and he courageously tries to confront Gabby’s memories with the truth.

“Don’t do this, Gabriella. If your brain injury is all better and you remember everything, just tell me. Don’t fucking keep me guessing.”

While this push and pull throughout the book showed the reality of their relationship, it became a hindrance to me as a reader. With the ending of Slut, it was clear Pax and Gabby had fundamental issues to work through, but I didn’t expect a rehashing of Gabby’s refusal to process her range of feelings and it became cumbersome to repeatedly hear how it was all Pax’s fault without Gabby accepting half the blame as well.

“You never said no. Not once did you say no. And whether you want to admit it or not, you never complained. It worked for us, Gabriella. You’re remembering the beginning, not the middle and the end.”

As we do find an answer to the looming big secret, I feel this information should have been included in the book two. While I enjoyed reading more of Pax’s POV and I do like Jettie’s style of writing, it wasn’t enough to sustain my interest in this one. Solid felt more like an afterthought rather than a complete short story.

*Note: Thanks to Javigina for a (F)BR of this series! I'll always treasure our sexy moments with Pax!

In Solid Paxton & Gabriella Pierce are trying to give their marriage a chance. They both want their family to stay together, & want to build a relationship based on trust & love. We see Paxton fall hard for Gabby & I loved how gone he is over her. They are trying to start over, but letting go of the past is easier said than done, especially when Gabby keeps remembering things she'd rather forget. They still struggle with trust issues & honesty. They both can be a bit volatile, but in the end their love for one another trumps all the crazy, & they just work.

We get some surprises & more answers from their past. We also get some seriously hot hot hot scenes. As usual Pax brings the sexy! I really enjoyed this whole series! It was full of angst, mystery & some crazy, but most important was the love & extreme passion! Look forward to reading more from this author! :D

3 STARS!

Still stupid fish.

I guess Solid only answered our last questions in SUIT. Gabriella still have amnesia but in SOLID she has some (unnecessary) flashbacks. Their relationship still on the rock. Both of them still on maybe forever in tug-of-war & angry sex. They fight. They sex. Communication still the most sacred thing for Gabriella and Paxton. I think they're trying to be happy for the sake their children. Paxton will be always a good father but not great husband. Paxton still a sexy bastard and ass. Ha ha ha...

Even I'm happy for Gabriella pregnant again with Paxton's child. Congrats for the couple! I hope you'll fix your problem. Unfortunately, SOLID still left me unsatisfied. Ps: I thought Gabriella will recover from amnesia and remember everything? Ugh.

I really enjoyed the two previous books in this serie. A lot of questions were answered in book 2 and I was hoping to get more answers in this one. Although there are some answers, I do feel a lot of them are still open. However, what was confirmed is the kind of fucked up SOB Paxton is/was. I wonder, twin babies? All together, it is not a bad read.

"The perfect storm of two kinds of crazy. Baby, I don't give a f*ck how we got here. We're here."

The craziness that is Paxton and Gabriella continues here, them trying to move forward after what they’ve gone thru… sigh…

I still feel the same way about Paxton. One minute, I want to bop him on the head, the next minute, I’m swooning over his thoughts… sigh… And as much I didn’t agree with half of Gabriella’s actions, I find myself more forgiving, considering what she’s gone thru... sigh...

I don’t get these 2, I don’t get them at all… Dysfunctional at the very least, yet just perfect… the lies, the heat, the deceit , the passion… sigh…

Ultimately, they both got what they needed and deserved, and I mean that in the most genuine way. It's a love story that only befits these 2 given their past... sigh...

This was a short novella, only 96 pages. It was a short, quick read that answered most of the unfinished questions that you had from the first two books, Suit and Slut.
I was really happy to read more from Gabriella and Paxton however; I felt this book was not needed. It could have been answered in book two, Slut. I felt that this book was just so unnecessary and could have been given to fans for free. After giving us the answers that we were looking for from book one and two it ended with more unanswered information. I just don’t get it to be honest. In my opinion I would have added this novella to the end of book two or offered it for free. I feel like it just isn’t fair to the fans who read the first two to then have to pay to read 96 more pages and still not be satisfied because of an open ending. More drama was added and nothing was completed. You are then invited to a Facebook event to find out an answer. I don’t want to give anything away because I hate spoilers.
Overall I was just disappointed. With so many books being published this was just unnecessary and kind of rude to do to your readers. I gave this book 2 stars because I did get some answers that I was looking for and I did enjoy the first two books.

4.5 Stars!!

Solid is a novella that continues Paxton and Gabriella's story. I don't really know why but I've become quite smitten with this couple and I am totally invested in their story. I really needed more closure after Slut and I'm happy to report that Solid gives me it!! In this short story, I finally got to know what Paxton was hiding from Gabby and how Gabby deals with her big secret. Gabby and Paxton can't seem to figure it out in the beginning. As the lies begin to eat away their marriage, they realize the only way to repair their broken marriage is to start trusting one another. Eventually both Gabby and Paxton find the truth out and they learn to work things out together. Solid is a great name for this novella because Paxton and Gabby have to learn to build a solid foundation for their relationship. The ending left me with a lot of hope for them.

"Solid is built on trust, not lies and deceit, and nobody's going to build it for you."

I like how Gabby and Paxton really worked for their relationship. One of the reasons why I love this series is that I find their problems and behavior so realistic. I see a lot of myself in Gabby. Gabby holds grudges even though she pretends to be over the issue. She then throws the issue in Paxton's face when they fight. I TOTALLY do that. Paxton thinks Gabby is crazy...lol..I'm pretty sure my husband thinks I'm crazy too. Paxton and Gabby are far from perfect and both contribute to their marital problems. The truth is they both didn't love each other in the past. Gabby's accident gave them a second chance to fall in love and they did. Now they just have to fight for the future. Love is wonderful, but this story really highlights that relationships take more than love to work. Overall, I loved how this novella ended the series. It gave me peace and I felt it wrapped everything up in a pretty little bow.

My only complaint is that I felt the ending happened abruptly. I know this is a novella and things need to happen quickly, but it felt a little out of place. There was all this drama and then all of a sudden Paxton finds the truth out and is okay with everything. It felt rushed. However, I'm still happy because I got my HEA.

Spoiler Ahead Read at Your Own Risk
This was the perfect ending to this series. Gabby and Paxton have been through hell and he put her through hell. Gabby is getting bits and pieces of her memory back while trying to keep secrets from Paxton he knows that she is hiding something from him he doesn't want her to get her memory back. I loved reading this book Paxton and Gabby both have changed for the better I think she is know longer his doormat and she is no longer afraid of him and I was laughing out loud when she kneed him in the family jewels. Gabby is also upset that her friend Mi is moving which she can't see is for the best because her husband Nick should have been sued. I was also glad that Gabby got to hear from Ro that the girls heard what Paxton did to her or at least one part. I was also glad that they both admitted that before she lost her memory that they didn't love each other that they fell in love after the accident. I was glad that Jettie did clear up one issue that Gabby thought she would never be able to tell Paxton and she even through in another a big surprise. I was also glad that Gabby was able to call Paxton out on his B.S.. This book has some really good sex scenes and that doctors office one was hot. This book also made me want to read the "Underestimated" series I have actually purchased it awhile ago I will be reading it soon. This book was well written with no errors in spelling or grammar I am looking forward to reading the spin off of this series. It's looking a little blue.

3 stars!! This was a quick read that did answer quite a lot of questions but was more Gabriella and Paxton moving on from the end of Slut. As Gabriella's memories begin to resurface she really struggles to separate the old Paxton from the new Paxton. It seems that moving on is going to be even more difficult than they initially anticipated. While I was anxious to read this and did enjoy it, it didn't hit the spot I thought it would.

Suit - Slut - Solid Twin duo
SUIT - SLUT - SOLID by Jettie Woodruff

Adult Dark Erotic Romance. These do not stand alone.
I'm not usually a lover of dark and twisted, but sometimes I need to change things up. I had heard Suit by Jettie Woodruff was dark but not too dark. So I gave it a go, and I am so glad I did.
SUIT
Total. Mindfuck. I was glued to the pages and read it in one sitting, then desperately waited for the next book, Slut, to release. I ended Suit still confused and questioning everything, but in the best way. The cliffy almost made this series more fun.

Gabby and Paxton are not your average couple. It seems that Paxton is a total controlling asshole as Gabby runs out to get some milk for the kids right as a tropical storm is bearing down on them. She sees her twin sister, whom she never told her husband about and hasn't seen in 13 years. The next thing you know, Gabby is waking up in the hospital with no knowledge at all of her life before.

She doesn't know her husband, or her kids, but the way Paxton treats her is appalling! He tells her he owns her in every way. He is cruel sexually and emotionally. They don't even sleep in the same bed. She is thoroughly controlled by him.
"I was blessed with nice everything. A nice home. A nice car. Beautiful children. A pool right outside my room.... And… One fucked up marriage. I was a kept woman... I was a glorified whore."

But as Gabby's injuries heal, she begins to assert her true self, and she doesn't put up with the shit that Paxton throws at her the way she used to. While she strangely enjoys some of the abusive sex with her handsome husband, the rest? Not so much.
"Paxton did things to me. Things I couldn’t explain. My body reacted to him like- danger. A thrill seeker. That’s how I felt around him. Like jumping out of a plane. The ecstasy of it overpowering the danger."

She seems to be a totally different woman than the one before the accident. Paxton thinks she is faking, trying to change the rules of the cruel master/slave agreement they had, and the reader wonders if she is really Gabby, or perhaps not? He liked the marriage the way it was, with his unfeeling slave, but this Gabby who came home from the hospital was different. She challenged him, she was passionate, and she wanted him.
“I don’t want to love you, Gabriella. I want to take care of you financially, I want to give you everything you ever wanted, and I want you to be a good mother to my kids.”
“You want to control me.” His hands held mine, one on each side of my head. Our eyes stayed locked and our lips close. “It’s a tradeoff. One that worked just fine before you decided to do this. Why can’t you go back to being you? Being us?”
“Is that what you want?”
“No.”

So many questions left unanswered, even more questions arising from the massive cliffhanger ending....

I. LOVED. IT.

SLUT
"Stupid Little Fish"

So. Many. Layers.  Hold on to your kindles, it's a wild ride. Just when you think you know what's going on...BOOM, Slut twists you in another direction. Gabriella is starting to remember a few things. Things she'd rather not know, and things she wants to know more of.
"Tell me the truth. I’ve heard enough lies for a lifetime.”

But the more she remembers, the more confused everything gets.
"Just when I thought I could see a glow at the end of the tunnel, another obstruction blocked my view and everything went dark. A metaphor for my life."

While in Suit I didn't think I could ever find myself liking Paxton, in Slut I began to. But then I would hate him again. Then love him. Gabby felt much the same way.

Gabby was still very strong, and even stronger in Slut. And Pax lost a lot of his dominance and control. The couple actually began to have a beautiful family life. And I finally began to love this dysfunctional couple and root for their happiness.

Slut quote Jettie Woodruff

But the more questions that were answered, the more that arose. As Slut ended, while it was a good ending, it left you wanting more. Luckily the day I finished Slut, Solid released!

SOLID
Slight spoiler for Suit:
Solid is a bonus told partially from Paxton's POV. It's not necessary but is a great addition to the series. As Gabriella remembers more bits and pieces of the past, she really struggles to separate the horrible, cruel Paxton in her memories and the new Paxton who is absolutely in love with his new Gabby.

More questions are answered. There is angst. I still wanted to punch Paxton in the face a few times, but at others I really liked him.
"Who says a solid foundation has to start from scratch? Sometimes you just have to let go of rock bottom, catch the bricks being thrown at you, and build your own foundation. Solid is built on trust, not lies and deceit, and nobody’s going to build it for you. I learned that the hard way."

Solid was a great addition to the series, but I still feel like there could be more to the story.
Series Likes:

•Holy moly, what a roller coaster.
•Completely out of the norm for me.
•While billed as a "dark, erotic romance" I didn't find it very dark, but I found it very twisty.
•Paxton was a total dick, I thought he wouldn't be redeemable, but Jettie redeemed him (almost).
•The sex was totally hot, even though it felt wrong being turned on by it.
•Every time you think you know what's happening you don't.
•I loved the rocks, and Mi.
•Completely different than anything I have ever read.
•Seeing a bit of Paxton's point of view in Solid.

Series Dislikes:

•There were a few too many errors in all three books, though I understand a new corrected version of Solid was uploaded.
•Not every question was answered.
•I could never let myself fully get over the asshole-ness of Paxton.

The Down & Dirty:
Suit - Slut- Solid may be my most unique reads of 2015. The story was so twisted and layered it's like nothing you ever read before. You don't know whether to love or hate the male lead or whether to trust the heroine. Just when you think you know what's going on, the rug is pulled from under you. The Twin duo series is engrossing, engaging and unputdownable. It's a mind-fuck of epic proportions that leaves you wondering about the character's real feelings, but even more so, it makes you wonder about your own.
Rating: 4.25-4.5 Stars (Suit, the first book, was closer to a 5), 4.75 Heat

I wish it was longer!! I loved that Paxton was still an asshole, Jettie really stayed true to the characters. In the last book there were still some questions left unanswered, thankfully we get the answers in this book. The kids were still super cute and crazy! Gabriella is still getting pieces of her memory back in this book. However most of those memories aren't pleasant to remember. This creates some tension between Pax and Gabriella. We are also introduced to a new character who will get his own book! Super excited about what Jettie has in store for us!

Jettie did a bang up job with this Novella. She was able to give us answers that we were left with from Slut and throw in a couple suprises before this short read was over. I liked having the dual POV and getting to see into Paxton some. I also like getting the flash backs to help answer things before Gabby had the wreck. Jettie was still able to keep up the mystery and keep things hot! She left me wanting more as always with her great writing and her munipulation of her characters but content to see it end.

Solid by Jettie Woodruff
Paxton and Gabriella continued
MEDICAL STIRRUPS, WHO KNEW
5 STARS

So, I wasn't expecting this! I wasn't even aware that Jettie was writing it! Wow, what an enjoyable surprise. This is the continuation of Pax and Gabby's fucked up life after amnesia. Lies, Truths, and some steamy freaky sex scenes. I loved it! It's a quick read that only took me about two hours to read but is packed with so much angst and chaos!

Paxton is still kind of a dick, but he still owns my heart. What can I say... I love the bad guy that's sometimes good! I know he's been dreadful in the past with the "old" Gabby, but this new guy, the guy who's actually in love with his wife is melting what panties I have left from reading the first two books. He still says shit that makes me cringe, but I do believe he's sincere in his quest to find solid ground with Gabby. He even made me laugh a time or two!

Gabriella is so damn cute. I love this woman with my whole heart! I am a "Gabriella Junkie." She's still struggling with her past, her strange visions, and trying to make heads or tales of what they are and how they fit into her new life post-amnesia. She's still the best Mom evah, and if I do say so myself, the best damn wife a man could ever ask for. I love how she handles Pax now-a-days. He may not think she's "handling" him, but girls... we know better...

Mi, the doctor friend is still as quirky as ever. I'm sad that she may be leaving, but I'm sure one way or another her Gabs will keep in touch no matter what. The kids are adorable and funny. I miss those days when my kids weren't afraid to speak their minds and be so damn cute while doing it.

So, this is a beautiful, short little novella on how Pax and Gabby are getting long after the confusion and bedlam we learned in Suit and Slut. It's very compelling and the characters are still very likable and realistic. The dialogue flows very nicely and feels incredibly natural. The pacing is ideal, quick actually, and the tension created throughout is perfect.

And I STILL want more!!! :)

I was insanely excited to learn we were get more Gabby & Pax after Slut, but this was so good that I am still craving more of them.

I will say, though, that Jettie did a great job of tying up loose ends, giving us more information, and even closure with this novella. I am thoroughly satisfied with the way their story ended. I'm glad everything is out in the open. It's refreshing to see that neither of them have truly changed and yet, they have at the same time. They're in love, they're strong (even when rocky), and they're just the perfect blend for each other.

Great story, great writing, great plot, great everything!

Loved this novella, it answered all my unanswered questions. Written in dual POV it was one hell of a rollercoaster ride and I didn't know wether I wanted to kill or forgive Pax. If you've read Suit and Slut this is a must read a perfect ending to a brilliant series. Jettie you've done it again, Merry Christmas.

Terrific novella

This was a great continuation of Paxton and Gabby's story. It was fun to revisit their craziness. We got some answers that were left over from Slut which was so good!! I really liked the surprise at the end!!!
I hope we get more of the Pierce family in the future.
