Life required clothing. And catching up with laundry.

Meri Darrow is a prodigy scientist who randomly gets fired from her dream job and then contracts an undiagnosable illness, completely derailing her entire career. Suspicious, right? So Meri flees to her family's old beach house to gather herself and attempt to put the whole experience in the past. Enter Rob McLain who at first can't even stand to look at Meri because of the very apparent physical effects of her illness. But of course, after some time getting to know each other, Rob and Meri develop an intense attraction that they rather unsuccessfully try to ignore. And during all this drama, what's going on with the company Meri was fired from? Well they want her to keep quiet about something that could ruin their new project, and they definitely don't appreciate Meri snooping around. Rob and Meri will have to work together to save both of their careers and more importantly, their lives.

First of all, I really appreciated the pace of this book. The beginning shot right off, and it carried all the way through to the end. There weren't many parts that were too slow which I think is perfect for a romance novel. Also the flow of writing was really good -- it was pleasant and easy to read, so no complaints there.

Now, I seriously hated Rob. At first, he wasn't that bad, but then he just barges in on Meri's life, ordering her around like he's the superior in their relationship. Sure, he's having trouble dealing with his trauma and undeniable attraction to Meri, but that doesn't give him an excuse to be a dick. He gets so pissy when Meri decides something that he doesn't agree with. Just ONE example:

But Meri also really gets on my nerves. To me, her character is extremely unfeeling, especially here: Also I feel like for a character who prides herself on her intelligence, determination and fierceness, Meri gets very weak-willed when a handsome man (ROB) is put in front of her. Mixed signals here...

And then there are these two lines:

"He was very warm and very male, demanding and giving at the same time."
"So sloppy, so sweet, and so male."

CRINGE.

But even though I disliked Rob and Meri, their characters definitely did a lot of good growing throughout the novel. Rob went from a real alpha jerk to facing his trauma straight on, really caring about someone and being only moderately demanding now. And Meri went from naive and closed-off to more caring and trustful. A-grade character development.

Overall, Sailor's Warning was okay -- just not what I was looking for. 2.75

I received an advance copy of Sailor's Warning for review and I have to say, I truly enjoyed it! Set at a good pace, this romantic mystery had a plot involving the sometimes very real element of pharmaceutical greed superseding the integrity of patient health. I loved the main characters. Meri’s take on life and love were perfect for her. Rob’s arrogance and lack of sensitivity were wonderfully portrayed without giving him that off putting air of alpha males that seem to be so popular in romance lately. The antagonists were well written right down to the evil genius who lacked a moral code to the jealous friend. I think this book could be a best seller. I highly recommend.

I loved this book! Strong characters that speak their minds and no games - and still romance! Refreshing! As a science person I can relate the games played in the office - this is real. I enjoyed so much the antics of the toddler and grandmother - so very sweet. The mystery that runs throughout this romance is compelling and really did keep my guessing as I hoped all would work out in the end. A good read.

This is an exciting, complex, and compelling romantic suspense. The characters and storyline are so well drawn that you will be thoroughly engaged from the very beginning. The fast-paced narrative is filled with moments of intense drama and steamy passion, flowing easily. Although almost from the start you know who the “bad guys” are, you will still be captivated by the twists and turns woven throughout. And even though the chemistry between Meredith and Rob may be explosive at times, and it might be hard to believe, but their personalities just work well together. There isn’t anything about this story I didn’t find fully entertaining.

I always love Noelle Greene's books. They always combine action, love, mystery and well described locations in her books. I never discuss what it's about but I do highly recommend that you read this book. I couldn't put it down! The suspense of wanting to know what happened kept me turning the page until it was done. Great writer!

Meri and Rob. An impossible couple and they both know it. This is a page-turner thriller, a murder mystery, and a romance all rolled up in one story. Excellent plot(s) and fully realized characters. What more do you want?

I received this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Rob is the male character in this book and I have to say he is not the romantic book boyfriend I would fantasize over. He is a freaky tyrant. So glad I am done with this, very disappointing read.

This is the second book by Noelle Greene that I’ve read, and another one I loved. The characters are so real, no stereotypes here – just complicated, flawed human beings. I particularly liked Rob (the hero) as he is honestly one of the most realistic male characters I have ever read in a romance. Quite simply, he’s a bit distasteful at times due to his arrogance or presumptions, but rather than making him dislikeable it actually makes him honest. We are made from our own experiences, and this can result in poor judgement on our own part. There was a moment early in the book when he meets the heroine when her illness is at its worst, an illness that causes her hair to fall out and strips her of her youth. Rather than feeling pity for her (as I expected) he felt disgusted, and then ashamed of himself. It is a reaction many people have in the face of such sickness, and I was surprised the author didn’t shy away from describing it. There was nothing rosy about the scene, just honest and terrible humanity.

Rob takes a long time to redeem himself, to become honest with his own flaws and expectations for life. While I would call the genre of this novel suspense/mystery romance, there are ample doses of family drama and personal discovery too. The hero and heroine are entirely equal in this book as they both go through their own, intersecting journeys. Okay, I’ve talked enough about the hero, let’s hear about the heroine!

Meri Darrow is a scientist (yay!) whose career and health are in tatters (boo!). She’s one smart cookie, although maybe if she’d read as many Agatha Christie novels as I had she might’ve guessed one of the twists earlier (I swear, some novels are as good as textbooks for the things you can learn). Her character is equal parts fierce and wary, her illness (I’m being vague deliberately) having sapped much of her vigour, but not all! As she recovers, she starts to dig towards the truth of the experiments at her old labs. The subsequent mystery and suspense are so much fun. Honestly, what’s not to like about Sailor’s Warning? It has everything I could want! (Hooray for complex characters!)

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited when I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway! Thanks for doing the giveaway!!

This book was a great read! Noelle Greene has a way of making her characters seem like your best friends that you are reading about. I love the way that she does this. The characters are very well developed and the story flowed really well. Meri and Rob drew me into their story and made me want to know how things were going to end for the two of them!

Rob was a great hero character and I love how he came with baggage. Usually it is the female that has the baggage and we watch as the guy rescues her, but in this one Rob has to figure out what he wants first and foremost and he goes in with caution because of his past experiences. I really don't want to give any of the story away because you have to read this one. You get so caught up in the story line that you just keep turning the pages as fast as you can.

Meri is dealing with her own set of problems, but when she is fired from her job for some development that she has discovered, she knows that she needs Rob's help and that is when things start to get serious between the two of them. I think there was just the right amount of romance added by Noelle Greene to make this a great read. I can't wait to see what is next for us as readers from Noelle! Thanks for a great read!!

Rob is the single parent of a toddle boy whose mother died in childbirth. He meets Meri briefly when she comes from another business for a meeting. The second time they meet is after she gets sick when they are living in neighboring beach houses. Rob likes her and she is good with his son but he is cautious because he cannot stand to see another woman he loves die. Meanwhile Meri is fired from her job under suspicious circumstances and Rob gets drawn into helping her discover what is behind the dismissal. Will Rob and Meri have a happy ending? An interesting story with a sweet romance.

Loved the tone and feel of this book. The suspense plot was interesting, and it wove throughout the story well. I would have liked the ending to have wrapped up a bit faster in order to keep the tension higher, but all in all very well done. Meri and Rob's romance is layered and complex. It was easier to understand Meri's motivations than Rob's. He seemed to vacillate between being a bit of a jerk and being sweet and caring. He always redeemed himself, but I just felt his actions were more chauvinistic than they needed to be. The supporting characters, especially Luke's son and mother, were well developed, too. All in all a very enjoyable book.

I enjoyed this book so much I stayed up late for a person with a medical condition which demands as routine a schedule as possible to finish the book in one sitting. The two main characters are unique and likable and very much living through a suspenseful occurrence that frequently looks like the female is in the kind of danger that may kill her. They are both the same and different in important ways regarding their life values and previous experiences so the appeal and attraction between them is fun to watch develop. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to all lovers of romantic suspense!

Fraud in the pharmaceutical industry

Adverse side effects are found in preclinical drug trials. The evidence is buried and fraud continues. People are murdered and reputations are at stake. This is an excellent look at the drug trade (legitimate). So much money can be made by hiding facts and corruption is too easy. Love is given a second chance. For anyone who enjoys reading about the fighters for the truth, for love, and for living. The characters are well developed with all their quirks.

This is the first time I didn't like the male lead in a romance novel. Rob is definitely the type of a man I stay away from. That type of possessive controlling nature doesn't lead to better future stabilization. It's so crazy how Meri couldn't know she was poisoned. If I were a scientist I'd think that was the first thing I'd think after I got fired. If you're deathly sick and the doctor couldn't find out with regular test nothing, get more in depth testing stupid! I figured Carolyn was a backstabber, her tones of jealousy was so profound I can't believe Meri couldn't see that. I guess its willful ignorance on Meri's part. The only character I truly enjoyed is Luke.

I purchased the romantic suspense Sailor's Warning by Noelle Greene and this review was given freely.
Greed and a pharmaceutical company throw single dad Rob and researcher scientist Meri in a complex scandal involving drugs, corruption and murder. Suspenseful and action packed with realistic characters, intrigue, an over protective family oriented main male character, and a heartwarming ending are just a few of the reason to read this well written novel.

Ambition and greed can be deadly!!
Meri naively believe the best of people especially her mentor.
When it comes to marriage she is somewhat more cynical. After all her dad has been married four times!
She believes she has found her place in the world.
She is about to be proved wrong on all counts...........

I really enjoyed this novel every other page had something else happening it was such a page turner. There is mystery, love and heartache in this book. Noelle took this story and ran with it and was able to show it in a totally different way.

No sailors involved

The book had a lot of graphic sex scenes for a mystery novel. Characters should have been presented better to get a better feel of the situation. The story was stretched too far.

Good story

This is a good buy would have been so much better without all the extraneous and detailed sex scenes. Using your imagination is much preferred than describing hot sex scenes to sell more books.

I brought this book with me to a cottage and I read it in 2 days. Meri and Rob are great characters, I loved that they didn't fall into that soap-opera version of sappy love interests. I enjoyed the twists and turns. A really great read and I will look for other books by Noelle Greene.

A nice book!
A goodplot athough quite technical which made less easy to read!A romantic suspence story ,which starts running smoothly right at the beginning when Rob and Meri meet!
Suprisingly is has more of a detective story at least for a part!
They have to go al ong way to full of intrigues ,to find the passion and love!
And even a proportional dash of tention and heat!
Two lovely characters and overal it was a pleasure to read about them!
even sometimes emotional!
What to say??
good job on this one ,N!!

Free book on Goodreads. Something about this book kept me from really getting hooked. I know part of it is because I still do not understand how the title of the book relates to the story. I get that the main character knows boats but I don't follow that to a sailor's warning, or anything else leads to that for that matter. Other than that the story was ok.
