pre-read: you guys don't even know how proud i am of matt. i've been following the sturniolo triplets since 2022 and i've seen how far they've come. i'm so eager to read this! august 18th can't come soon enough 🥹
Today I received my copy of this book, I don’t know how considering it’s well before the release date but here we are.
I started this book at 7:30 and finished it in one sitting.
I myself struggle with anxiety and mental health issues and these past two years have been the worst I’ve ever had and with anxiety especially it can make you feel like a burden and isolated.
I remember finding Matt’s solo YouTube channel and for the first time someone else also hated drive thrus and while this is a small thing to some, it made me feel less alone and less harsh towards myself. So I watched all the videos he posted and for those minutes it felt like someone saw me, and that is how this book also made me feel.
My favorite part was what he wrote at the end “you and I are both the same” “we are both human beings” “No one is greater than the other” connecting this to his earlier explanation of how he sees his negative emotions (I won’t spoil because it connects everything so beautifully) leaves me as a reader feeling lighter about my own journey of facing my anxiety.
I think as we get older we tend to mourn our younger selves and what we could have had especially in the vein of mental heath struggles and his book touches on that while also showing that what wasn’t possible on page 20 was possible on page 120.
I am someone who is in my twenties and this book will be one I come back to. I love YouTube and I am a fan of him and his brothers, their channel helped me so much with feeling less alone and for those glorious 20 minutes or more I was able to laugh and my anxiety was nowhere to be found, that is a gift I don’t know how to express gratitude for.
But more than that while reading this book I felt hope that I too can face my anxiety. So thank you Matt.
I know that this is a long review but, I really wanted to share.
This book was truly moving and inspiring. This book highlights the importance of the past, but also not letting it define you or hold you back from the life you want to live. Through the internet, many viewers believe they truly know someone through their content, but what they don’t see is the path that got them there and shaped who they are. In a world where people are genuinely addicted to their phones and vicariously living through public figures, stories like this are essential; connecting with people on a personal level, realizing we are all human, and most importantly restoring our sense of humanity. I think this book will connect with a lot of people and hopefully inflict more empathy on its readers. In the conversation of mental health, not enough people take it seriously. It takes hearing or experiencing it through someone else to see its impact, and this book is a step in the right direction for our generation. As someone who is also incredibly close with their siblings, this book meant a lot to me. Going through a difficult time and knowing that your family is worried about you brings about horrible guilt, especially knowing how you would feel with the roles reversed. Matt does a beautiful job of depicting the complexities of sibling relationships while conveying the unwavering love that isn’t always in the spotlight.
“Today, I will make a mistake, and tomorrow, I will learn from it. What happened yesterday, even if painful or difficult, will make me wake up stronger tomorrow.”
I read this entire memoir in one complete sitting, and I don’t regret it one bit.
I’ve been following the Sturniolo Triplets since the end of my seventh grade year (now going into sophomore year). I always connected with Matt intensely because of his quiet personality and his openness about anxiety.
I didn’t know that reading this memoir was going to basically be reading about my experiences with life and anxiety.
I’ve never read a memoir before, but I think this one changed everything for me. There will be a lot more to come, probably.
Matt Sturniolo talks about his struggles with anxiety and depression so clearly that it feels as though I’ve lived through his story too. Obviously, my experiences aren’t the same as his, but some things that happened to him were so similar to me that it was scary.
I don’t get emotional over books easily, but this one made me tear up instantly.
It’s hard to think that you’re not alone when the feelings you have feel impossible for anyone else to relate to. I didn’t think anyone would have an experience similar to mine—growing up where anxiety, depression, and therapy is a part of daily life. I was proven extremely wrong.
Matt Sturniolo and I are more alike than I had ever thought. At some points, he recounted parts of his life and I had to stop to be like ‘this happened to me, too.’
His struggles with school, friends, feeling emotions despite struggling intensely, and therapy were so relatable that it was hard to read about, at times. The upbringing of the anxiety too (his grandfather passing away) hit way closer to home than I could’ve ever expected.
It feels impossible, that he could connect to me (and probably thousands of others) so deeply. But he did, and I hope he continues choosing to voice all of his struggles—because people truly do need to see representation of mental health struggles in their lives.
This has to easily be one of the best (if not the best) book I’ve ever had the privilege to read (especially since it got delivered early).
My copy came in a little early and given the chance i finished it within a day. This book is written in the most beautiful, raw and inspiring ways, and possibly one of bests I’ve ever read. Dealing with a mental battle myself, I never really felt understood, even by others who said they have been in that same position, I truly never felt seen. But this book made me feel seen. While I was in high school, I felt like I had no personality, as if I was just borrowing someone else’s hobbies and likes and putting a twist on them to fix something in myself, something that felt like it was all I was. I could never explain that to anyone. No one understood. But reading this book, my feelings and thoughts were put into words on paper.
At the end of this book, Matt wrote: “With all of the videos I put out into the world and all the pages I write, you will still only know a fraction of my life. I hope, one day, I will hear about a fraction of yours. Even then, we will never fully know everything about each other—and that's okay.“ I immediately teared up reading this. The way he writes really makes you feel seen, that even though we are just readers, and fans, he would still like to share his life and hope others will share theirs with him. A couple weeks ago, I saw Chris, Matt, and Nick in Chicago. I don’t know any of them personally, but I am extremely proud of Matt for being brave enough to publish this book, a book about his experiences and hardships, hoping to help others and make them feel seen and understood.
I had the privilege of reading this book soon after it was written. Of course, there is bias, as I know , and love , the author. I am so excited, and cannot wait for others to be able to read this heartwarming journey by Matt Sturniolo. Matt shares his heart, wisdom and hope with such honesty and openness. I do believe, his words will resonate with so many young adults today. It is a story of hope and affirmation, that yes, your feelings are valid, and yes, you will persevere through this season of life. For the older adults, the parents, the friends, who often think that they know all that someone is really feeling and it will pass, think again. Everyone handles life differently, even if you are a triplet. Stay open to everything. Do not disregard feelings because you haven’t experienced them. If you are in a position where others look to you, (educators), remember that love and understanding go much further than achieving high test scores. This is not a story written by a shallow kid who has been fortunate to achieve some “fame” on social media. This is a story of a kid’s journey, sharing his experience and heart. This is his story, not written to minimize the struggles and pains of so many youth in our world today, but an honest look at mental health and the struggles that many face. It is not a perfect solution or even a look into the lives of all, but as I have always believed, love, understanding and respect for others are the pathway to peace.
as someone who has been watching the triplets since 2021, to see matt as a published author my mind is blown. i got my copy early today and as soon as it came in i opened it and started reading. i always knew matt had a way with worlds and could relate with people but seeing it, all on the page, the vulnerability, the hardships, the good times everything under the sun basically it was truly astonishing. this book really pulled on my heartstrings, made me laugh, and made me sob. i am so proud of matt and him for really showing us who he is in this book (not that he hasn’t before i hope yall know what i mean lol). this is a 10/10 book even if you don’t know who he is you can learn something from him and his wise words. as i stated before i am so so proud and whenever i feel alone or like no one understands i know where i am going to go.
it was beautiful. i was shocked to see how much i really did relate to it as someone who has struggled with anxiety and other mental health problems for years. i truly feel for matt.. i am so so proud of him for releasing this book and for fighting through so many battles in general. i hope he continues to reach his goals. this book truly is one that i think everyone should read. his outlook on life throughout this book is a beautiful one, and a reminder that you should never let your past and struggles dictate your future. :)
Just received my copy last night and read the whole thing today. Wow. I myself struggle with my mental health constantly, so to hear about Matt’s experiences almost feels comforting in a way. This book is a good reminder that nobody is alone in the way they’re feeling, no matter what they’re feeling. Also, bonus points since I’ve also grown up in New England, a lot of moments felt nostalgic to my own childhood/up bringing. It really is good to let yourself feel how you need to feel and remember that everyday is a brand new day.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was incredibly well-written, and I gained a wealth of knowledge about his life, his family, and how he and his brothers became the individuals they are today. It was truly outstanding.
Tears were shed as I read it. I hope Matt continues to write more books! I will eagerly follow his journey and the journeys of his brothers to see where life takes them.
