This Too
When small-town girl Abigail moves to Melbourne for university, she hopes it’s her chance to shed her "sweet and naïve" label and finally become like her best friend, bold, magnetic, and effortlessly confident. But beneath her seemingly perfect facade, Luna hides the scars of her mother’s abandonment and her father’s suffocating control, concealing her true self even from Abigail.
As new relationships and old wounds collide, the two friends’ bond begins to strain under the weight of secrets, jealousy, and unspoken truths. Abigail must decide how much of herself she’s willing to lose to feel wanted, while Luna must confront whether she’s brave enough to choose the life and love she truly deserves.

This Too is an Australian coming of age debut by Kerrie Marietta with a thoughtful look at young love, female friendship and the challenges and joys of leaving home.
Abi and Luna are best friends who head off to university together. They are sharing a flat in a campus block where they quickly meet some of their neighbours. Abi is fascinated by Brooks almost immediately, and my sense of dread escalated as I worried about how Brooks could be good for her. At the same time Luna is also making friends and working out who she is and what she wants. Most often though, she is looking out for Abi.
Abi’s family are overprotective and she is not as streetsmart as Luna. The character development – and the drama and angst – is mostly in Abi’s experience. I loved Luna, her mix of self-doubt and bravado drew me in, and she often looks after Abi instead of prioritising her own needs. Abi is anxious and so hungry for the experience of love that she’s vulnerable to even the most casual male interest.
So there is first love, and challenged friendship and loyalty, and agony and doing the hard things. Kerrie Marietta nails the vulnerability of being the newbies – going to classes and not knowing what group to join, even finding the right room is tricky in those early university days. For Abi, all this awkwardness feeds into her anxiety and makes her behave in ways that made me both cringe, and want to hug her. Abi’s neediness is hard to read – when she knows Brooks for all of a day, she thinks about how he doesn’t have her number but she ‘needs’ to see him again – “how am I supposed to be that close to him without being able to talk to him whenever I want”. Abi hasn’t learnt about self-reliance yet and it’s a hard road ahead.
There’s a lovely interplay between how the girls see each other, and their own experiences – Abi in particular sees Luna as being confident and together, while Luna is paddling just as hard as Abi. There’s a delicious love affair for Luna, which feels like she’s finding a safe harbour, even at her age.
I loved all the secondary characters – especially Gaia and Sam, and the chaos of shared houses. If anything I’d have liked more about Luna, and her relationship, and more appreciation for Sam.
A confession, I went into this thinking it was a romance, and while there are many romantic moments, this is better characterised as one secondary romance and a whole lot of growing up for both girls. I suggest a warning that this is not a romance novel.
Overall I love what Kerrie has done with that critical early year of moving away from home and leaving the familial care that can be suffocating, to build a more reciprocal and earned support from friends. Ultimately optimistic, this is a wonderful debut novel that sensitively deals with tricky subjects. I’m excited for what Kerrie Marietta writes next.
Thank you Kerrie Marietta for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

Oh! My! God! One of the absolute best books I have ever read! The emotional rollercoaster ride left me staring at the ceiling after I completed the book. The story held me captive and I could not believe my time with Luna and Abigail was up. Thank you so much to author Kerrie Marietta for sharing this work with me early and thank you for sharing this with the world! The fact that this is your debut novel is absolute banana peppers to me!!!!
"There are times in your life when you go looking for change, and others when it finds you" (p.7). If you are looking for your next read, I promise you will not be disappointed by this book. This novel captures the universal experience of enduring growing pains, navigating self-doubt, and constantly striving to become a better version of ourselves.
You feel the love that Luna and Abigail have for one another. Luna is a true friend; you can feel her love and support for Abigail, even when Abigail makes some questionable decisions and lashes out. However, I justify Abigail’s decisions because she was doing the best she could with the perspective she had at the time. She was too deeply involved in her situation to see the bigger picture. The story is a beautiful exploration of growing up, gaining perspective, and learning to look beyond one's own immediate world. While Abigail isn't inherently selfish, the arrival of a new love interest causes a shift, moving her from the role of the selfless sidekick (of Luna) toward embracing "main character energy." I genuinely wanted to reach through the pages and give both of these characters a giant hug.
"This is my chance to change all of that. Moving far away from who I am, who I used to be, seems life the perfect opportunity to start over and become someone new. Someone better. Someone like Luna. Maybe then, all the pieces of my life will fall into place."(p.9)
Author Kerrie Marietta has crafted a richly detailed world where every character and interaction weaves together so seamlessly that the story becomes impossible to put down. I truly appreciated how the author made it so easy to fall in love with both protagonists. The dual POV structure is essential, as it provides crucial insight into the motives and actions of both Abigail and Luna; without these alternating perspectives, I likely would have felt very differently about them. It was a heartfelt experience to follow both characters through their growing pains, heartbreak, and the beginning of new chapters in their lives.
"How much pain can one person endure? None of this is in my control, and all I want to do is take away all of her pain. I'd give anything to see her smile."(p.303) This book takes you by surprise in all of the best ways. I loved the ending and I really hope this is not the last we see of Luna and Abigail!

A million thanks to the author for gifting me the honor of an advance reader copy of her debut novel!
Wow. Throughout this book, I kept asking myself, “I don’t know how much more of this I can endure,” and then when I read the last sentence I literally yelled, “THAT’S IT???” Kerrie Marietta did such a fantastic job of instantly gripping me from the first chapter and continuously keeping me hooked with every page. I always wanted more.
I went into this book (the way I do with most books) BLINDLY. I had no idea what it was about, and even while reading I kept asking myself, what is the point of all of this? There was so much happening in different directions that I couldn’t quite figure out what the main point was.
That is, until I got to the end.
This story is about LIFE! Living. Trying to maneuver those beginning stages of adulthood on your own, away from home. And I honestly loved that.
The two FMCs, Luna and Abi, are longtime best friends who are starting college together. They move away from home and live together in their own apartment. Their friendship goes through so many ups and downs, and I thought it was such a realistic depiction of what friendship can actually look like. Not only are they trying to navigate their friendship with all these added factors that come with their newfound freedom, but they’re also battling their own insecurities. I really loved how the book showed the reality of being a young woman, having insecurities, and sometimes just not knowing how to deal with them.
The MMC, Brooks, was SO aggravating but also somehow hard to hate. Being an adult now, I can definitely recognize when there are underlying, undealt-with issues that affect a person’s actions. And you can just tell Brooks needs a sprinkle of love with a HUGE dash of therapy lol. He was unbearable at times, but I’m actually really hoping we get to witness him come out of his funk.
The supporting characters were so great too. I loved Gaia, Sam, and Amir! The found family and genuine friendship between everyone made my heart swell.
I’m seriously hoping we get to see more of these characters because this feels like such a great start to what I hope becomes a series! I so badly want more!

I cannot believe this is a debut novel; it was beautifully written and so much fun to read that I didn’t want to put it down.
Kerrie perfectly caught the turmoil of emotions with the start of university and how absolutely vulnerable and lost you feel at the beginning. This is a lovely coming of age story about two best friends who must find themselves in this new path in life and discover what they want moving forward, both in life and romantically. Meeting new friends and discovering new interests is so relatable.
Abigail is very careful and insecure where Luna appears to have it all together, despite feeling the exact same but just embracing a “faking it until she makes it” attitude. She always has Abigail’s back even putting herself second.
I can heavily relate to Abigail with overprotective parents and to Luna being raised by a single parent after one left. They are both so realistic and you can’t help but feel like you know them personally.
Luna’s personality certainly lit up after she met Gaia. Abigail’s story with Brooks and Sam was a little bit more complicated though. Figuring out who would be a better fit was a real struggle for her at first. She learned the answer by the end though.
I just love how this story felt so relatable as someone who grew up in a small rural town and felt very much the same at the beginning of going off to a new place and, in my case, not knowing anyone. Then meeting new people and finding yourself.
There is some serious pain and struggles that come up towards the end with some tough life lessons that go along with it. Luckily friendship is there to save the day!
This is a fantastic read for anyone who would want to feel seen and understood through this time in your life. You won’t regret it!

About THIS TOO
The novel opens on lifelong friends Abi and Luna, about to navigate life in the city as college roomies. Abi makes the move to get away from her parents’ and boyfriend’s expectations, hoping some of Luna’s free spirited lifestyle will rub off on her.
Together, they’re sure they can do anything, even if being away from home for the first time is scary.
But will their friendship be tested? will it snap under the pressure?
My Thoughts
ABI is naive, inexperienced, and likeable because she’s so relatable. At first, I thought she let Luna walk on her a bit, and I found myself hoping she’d put a stop to it. But then I realized they’re like sisters, having lived together quite a bit while Lina’s dad was on work trips.
LUNA, on the other hand, talks a big game, but she’s nervous on the inside too. Her dad is controlling. He tells her what classes to take, what extracurricular activities are worthwhile, and who to be. She seems like a privileged girl who gets everything she wants, but there’s more to her than that. She’s charming, funny, and scared to open up. She’s got layers. The way her depth sneaks up on you is unexpected and well executed.
I flew through this novel. I wanted to know what would happen with Abi and the guy who clearly is not right for her. She has a wild and emotional year. I can’t wait to see what happens with Luna in the next one, because I have a feeling we will focus on her next and her relationship with her father.

This Too by Kerrie Mariette is a debut novel, and all I can say is: wow! I adored this book and cannot wait to have a trophy copy proudly displayed on my bookshelf.
The story is an emotional rollercoaster. There are some uncomfortable moments, but it had me completely gripped, and I finished it in just two sittings.
It's a story about messy, complicated relationships, whether with friends or partners. I found myself relating to both FMCs for different reasons, although more so with Abi. I also found myself shouting at her at times! I think most people will be able to relate to this story because, as teenagers, we all went through that period of trying to figure ourselves out.
One of the MMCs is a huge red flag. I knew I couldn't trust him, although there were moments when I hoped he would redeem himself and I'd end up liking him. But then he'd throw another red flag into the mix. Unfortunately, there really are people like him, and that's the harsh reality.
I also have to say that I adored Luna. She is a true friend—the kind of person everyone deserves. She stood by Abi, even when Abi was letting her down.
Overall, This Too is a fantastic debut that tackles difficult relationships and the challenges of growing up with honesty and emotion. I can't wait to see what Kerrie Mariette writes next.

This was such a powerful read that really captures that messy space between adolescence and adulthood — when friendships are changing, relationships become more complicated, responsibilities start piling up and you’re still trying to figure out who you are amongst it all.
I loved getting the different perspectives of Abi and Luna. Seeing the same friendships and interactions through both of their eyes added so much depth to the story, particularly in the way their own feelings, biases and the influence of the people around them could completely skew how they viewed a situation or another person.
There were so many moments where you could see how differently something was being experienced depending on whose perspective you were reading, and I loved how much that made me question my own interpretation of the characters along the way.
One of the things that really stuck with me was the exploration of unhealthy relationships, and just how difficult those dynamics can sometimes be to recognise when you’re caught up in them.
Such an emotional, thoughtful and incredibly real exploration of friendship, relationships and finding your way into adulthood.
An easy 5⭐️ read for me. 🤍

Thank you to the Kerrie Marietta for the advanced copy of This Too, and trusting me with your baby for my first ARC read. 🙈
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5 / 5
This book was an absolute rollercoaster, uncomfortable at times, but completely gripping.
It dives straight into the messy, complicated realities of relationships. The female characters' insecurities were so palpable and cringey that I spent half the book wanting to shake some self-worth into them.
As for the MMC? He is a walking traffic light. One minute he’s a green-flag consent king, the next he’s waving massive red flags, which kept me turning the pages because I had to know: is he just a sweet-hearted commitmentphobe, or an actual manipulative dirtbag? I won’t spoil the answer for you!
This was such a unique, change of pace from my usual reads. It perfectly balances the cringey realities of modern dating with the beautiful, healing power of true friendship and family.
Content Warnings: Emotional abuse, miscarriage.

"This Too Shall Pass"
Two best friends head off to Uni and have the vision of becoming more of their true selves while attending.
Luna has a solid plan laid out by her dad and herself and she emits this carefree, go with the flow but never holds back personality. While Abigail comes off timid and structured by following her dreams with supportive parents back home.
These two girls go through it. Their friendship gets tested and so does their discovery of who they really are becoming within themselves.
Although the coming of age is a bit young for me, I could easily say that my younger self could've related to these young women. The emotions, situations and self discovery is real and raw and while some turbulence occurred, the truth prevailed and strength to stand within oneself had shined through.
Congratulations my sweet Kerri on your debut release!!! I am so very proud of you babes ✨️📚✨️

Thank you so so so much to Kerrie Marietta for an ARC of "This Too"!
If I could point to a book that gives the feeling of girlhood and the importance of bonds between women, it is "This Too". I found myself relating to many points of this book in a way no other book has. At times I was smiling like a dork, others I was crying into a pillow. Luna and Abi's relationship reminded me of the relationship I have with my close girlfriends when we went through very similar situations that were presented in this story. For all my ladies out there, pick this book up, you will feel at home.
The chapters are the perfect length, the switch in POVs creates a more open world story, and the writing style is super cozy!
I hope we get to see more of Abi and Luna's story unfold! I'd love to see them finish college and follow their dreams, while still being having such a strong sister bond.

First let me say - I adore this book!! I was a beta reader and now an ARC reader, and I will be purchasing a paper copy when it *finally* releases.
I think what makes This Too such a hit is how relatable it is. We all went through that teenage period of trying to figure out who we are. We've all been in situations that we can look back on and think 'man I wish I hadn't done that'. For me, this book feels like a giant hug for my teenage self.
The way Kerrie writes the different characters' voices is masterful, and she makes the interweaving of the two storylines interesting and compelling. It's hard to say much about that without spoilers - so you'll just have to read it to see what I mean.

I’m not sure how Kerrie did it, but she made it so I felt like she was talking about people I knew while I was reading along. I couldn’t put the book down since I wanted to know what would happen next with Abigail and Luna’s lives. Both Abigail and Luna made me feel like they had parts of younger me in them, which was kind of refreshing (and validating) to see on paper. It made me feel so protective over the characters as I felt I knew what was to come for them, especially for Abi with Brooks (this broke my heart and even expected it). I hope Abi and Luna live wonderfully happy lives. Great work with this debut novel.
Thank you to the author for the gifted copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Honestly about 60% in i’m just so shocked at what a shitty and delusional friend Abi is being to Luna, especially when Luna has tried to reach out multiple times and literally begging for her to get to know Gaia!!
100% and omg i hated Brooks from the start but god i thought he’d do something to redeem himself, but nope, nothing.
I think everyone deserves a friend like Luna but the way Abi treated her really aggravated me, how can you do that to a friend?!
& SAMMMMM man i hope there’s a second book & that man gets all the love and attention he deserves, he also deserves better than Abi so maybe a new girl🤞🏼

I think everyone deserves a friend like Luna but the way Abi treated her really aggravated me, how can you do that to a friend?!

WOW! What a breathtaking debut by Kerrie Marietta 🩷🧡 This Too features growing pains that come with change, the journey accompanied by new love but also the heartache of letting go and navigating hardships that can be unforeseen, and feel inevitable. But the heartwarming connection with found family melted my heart.
Kerrie writes the real and raw hardships that can accompany new adult life. The complexities of character development and relationship dynamics showcase such authenticity and parallels to fledging adulthood… I, Too, was reminiscing about my own experiences and the similarities with Abi and Luna… and I learnt This Too Shall Pass.

This Too ARC Review | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Thank-you Kerrie for the opportunity to read an advanced copy This Too!
This Too is a coming of age story that follows childhood best friends Luna and Abigail as they navigate uni life in melbourne making New friends, falling in love and the challenges that come with growing up!
Heart breaking and heart warming moments throughout, Kerrie's writing is engaging and left me wanting to read “just one more chapter" through sleepy eyes (night reader here) and I couldn't wait to pick it up again!
I loved being able to visualise the places in This Too as it is set in the beautiful city of Melbourne, it added an extra sense of familiarity!

This Too — Kerrie Marietta ⭐⭐⭐
This one was a bit of a mixed read for me. There were definitely things I enjoyed — the friendship between Luna and Sam, the Melbourne setting, and the way the book openly discusses body image, dating and the realities of trying to find your person.
I actually really liked Luna, but I struggled to connect with Abigail at times. I wonder if part of that was simply the age of the character and being at a different stage of life to her. Some of her choices and reactions didn’t quite land for me personally, which made it harder for me to become fully invested in that part of the story.
That said, it’s a quick, easy and genuinely cosy read, and I can absolutely see this finding its audience — particularly readers who connect with the characters and where they are in life.
Not every book has to be your book to recognise that it could be exactly someone else’s.

Ahhh…this was such a good read! I blasted through this in less than 24 hours. I just had to know what was going to happen.
This Too is not your overly action packed, heart wrenching read, but it is a true look into a group of young people who are trying to figure life out. There’s love, friendship, jealousy, hate, and undeniable mess ups. Overall, Abi and Luna prove that when things get tough, having a friend to be there despite everything is what matters!!!
If you are looking for a quick read that will settle in your soul, This Too is perfect!

REVIEW OF ARC FROM AUTHOR
This was a beautifully written book about true female friendship and finding strength and self-worth even when you don't think you have it within yourself. Everyone deserves a friendship like Abi and Luna in their lives to remind them just how much they are worth. Someone who is always there not matter what.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it made me want to go visit my bestie who is far away just to give her a hug.
An excellent read 4/5 stars, make sure you preorder your copy today

I received an advanced copy of This Too from the author. This Too by Kerrie Marietta was an emotional coming-of-age romance. It explored friendship, identity, and self-discovery. I really enjoyed following Abigail as she moved to Melbourne for university, hoping to reinvent herself. The dynamic between Abigail and Luna was messy, heartfelt, and realistic, especially as secrets and old wounds began to surface. Overall, this was a touching and thoughtful story about finding yourself, embracing who you are, and learning that love isn't always simple.

I love discovering new authors, especially when they write fantastic books. Everything about this book caught my eye, and I couldn't not sign up.
I loved it. There was so much I related to, and so much I didn't, which made it such a page turner.
I empathized with Abi and was so glad to see her growth.
This book was fun, intriguing and deep where it needed to be.
I really appreciate the early copy, and look forward to more from this author in the future.

This Too is such a good story showing all the feeling of going out on your own for the first time. If full of complex relationships that are a joy to watch change a develop over the course of the book.

I love this book so much. I love the relationship between Luna & Abigail. A lot of stories pit the women against each other but this shows the true meaning of sisterhood. I couldn't put it down!

As a Victorian who attended Uni (not a city one) straight after year 12 this was so relatable. The adjustment to Uni life, making new friends, navigating a campus and eleventy hundred lecture rooms. I loved that this was dual POV between two friends on their own journey into young adulthoood as well as their evolving friendship.
I’m not going to lie, I absolutely wanted to shake the shit out of Abi many times throughout the book to knock some sense into her. Then I would remember I’ve probably got about 20 years of life experience on her and made some average choices at that age. The characters are written so well you easily love and hate where it’s needed and as they develop some feelings may shift… except for one guy, fuck him! You’ll work it out, I don’t want to spoil any of it. You will go through a roller coaster of emotions.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
