I enjoyed this book wayyyyyy more than the previous one. It was much more action focused and there was less exposition. Apart from Palace of Doom, this is the 1st book that was fresh material for me and that certainly played a role in it’s entertainment value as well.
In this 1st part of the grande finale…
We FINALLY begin to learn more about Xiao Ge and the Zhang Family history.
Pangzi and Wu Xie FINALLY feel like the best friends they’re portrayed as in the drama who roast the shit out of each other but would also go to hell and back for one another.
We see Wu Xie thrusted into a new role in this story which forces him to confront different sides of himself; strengths, weakness, and ugly truths.
Definitely the most interesting and most exciting entry of the series so far. Off the Part 2 of the Grand Finale! 😭
*4,5 Absolutely love that we're getting a bit more mature Wu Xie here, together with Pangzi. Xiaoge still MIA, sadly. Wu Xie and Pangzi exploring the ancient Zhang home and *immediately* accidentally setting it on fire was very in character xD

I’m sad that Zhang Qiling is missing in this novel. But we are getting closer to answers about the Zhang family and their family mansion in Guangxi. 4/5 stars
