I really enjoyed this book .I absolutely loved the authors writing style. It was full of twists and turns and some I didnt see coming. It was very well written with loveable characters. I really recommend this book
The title of this book asks a simple question, but the story quickly proves that trust is rarely simple.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐(5) A Chilling, Layered Exploration of Trust and the Art of Self-Deception
A huge thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy of Can I Trust My Husband by Kristin Harper in exchange for an honest review.
The Hook: How Much Denial Can One Marriage Hold?
What do you do when the people you love the most are the ones keeping the darkest secrets? Kristin Harper’s domestic thriller is a slow-burn psychological study wrapped in a cozy New England setting. It is a story about the fragile line between unconditional love and complete denial, and it asks a terrifying question: How far are you willing to look away to keep your perfect life intact?
I went into this expecting a fast-paced domestic thriller filled with lies, affairs, and shocking twists. While those elements are certainly present, what surprised me most was how much this book focuses on the emotional side of betrayal. It isn't just about discovering secrets; it's about how doubt slowly changes a person from the inside.
The Plot: An Empty Nest and Sudden Silence
The story starts at a natural turning point. Katie (our narrator) and her husband, Zach, have just dropped their eighteen-year-old twin daughters, Maddie and Amelia, off at college. Just as Katie is struggling to adjust to their quiet, empty house, Zach leaves for a solo camping trip in New Hampshire.
But Zach’s behavior quickly shifts. He becomes distant and evasive and refuses to video call. As Katie begins to question his sudden secrecy, the novel beautifully weaves together past and present timelines to expose the cracks in their seemingly flawless marriage.
The Characters: Complex, Human, and Flawed The strength of this novel lies in its character development. Harper makes these people feel incredibly distinct:
1. Katie: As a writing center director, Katie is highly intelligent, but she is also deeply naive and fragile. Raised by her grandmother after her mother's early death and her father's frequent affairs, she is incredibly vulnerable to manipulation. While some might see her as too trusting, her desperate need to believe in her husband makes her deeply human.
2. Zach: A geoscience professor who has always been Katie's rock. Watching him pull away and guard his phone creates a wonderfully tense, unsettling atmosphere.
3. Crystal: Katie's sister-in-law is an absolute scene-stealer! High-maintenance, self-absorbed, and wealthy, she runs a boutique and provides a fantastic, witty contrast to the heavy, emotional atmosphere of the main plot.
4. Desiree: Katie’s estranged stepsister. Though she has been gone for twenty years, her lingering shadow and the quiet return of her sick son, Kyle, play a massive, haunting role in the story's climax.
Simple Prose with Deep, Psychological Layers
Don't let the accessible writing style fool you. Harper uses brilliant, everyday metaphors like a dying phone battery or a simple piece of fruit to represent Katie's decaying sense of security.
The pacing relies heavily on atmosphere and character backstory rather than cheap jump scares. While the middle sections take their time building up the history of the family, it all serves to make the final act hit incredibly hard.
When the truth finally unravels, it completely changes the framework of every relationship in the book. The ending is not meant to be taken at simple face value; the final pages leave behind a quiet, chilling realization that will make you want to flip back to page one and read the whole story over again.
My Verdict:
Can I Trust My Husband is a beautifully written, emotionally heavy domestic drama. If you love thrillers that focus on deep psychological interiority, family dynamics, and the quiet tragedies of human nature, and satisfying twists, this is definitely worth picking up. This is a must-read. Kristin Harper is a wonderful talent, and I am officially adding her to my watch list!
Highly recommended for readers who enjoy Freida McFadden, Sally Hepworth, and domestic suspense that leans as heavily into emotion as it does mystery.: )
When desire meets denial: mistakes are human; betrayal is marked by lifelong repetition. How much denial are you willing to live in, forever hoodwinked by those you wanted to be loved by the most?
If ever a novel had the perfect title – one that lingered in the air long after you finished reading – it’s this one.
The narrative is vivid, striking a deft balance between show and tell without the slightest reliance on cliches, while weaving symbolism throughout as hidden clues.
The “simplicity” of the writing is profound. You know accessible prose that, upon a closer look, reveals layers of psychological interiority? So much so that even a grapefruit and a dying phone battery become subtle metaphors. (Not to mention the FMC’s husband, fittingly named Zachary.)
The FMC, who is also the narrator, may be misunderstood by some as an overthinker. I’d say she is simply stressed and has no one to talk to. Her inner monologue felt real and relatable.
She’s a straightforward, naive woman whose mother’s early death, father’s affairs (the word affair recurs throughout the novel), grandmother’s upbringing, and the role her stepsister plays in her life – especially following the passing of the FMC’s grandmother – have left her fragile and vulnerable to manipulation.
In all her complexities, this character initially appears rather judgmental, dismissing her brother-in-law Russell’s wife as paranoid for suspecting him of being unfaithful. This hits harder because of the FMC’s earlier claim that she likes the woman – but that tension is then built up to the point where her own logic turns against her.
It’s almost eerie how dark the themes here are, yet the stylistic devices wrap everything in an air of comfortable familiarity.
The level of emotional and psychological depth this work achieves is remarkable – the FMC is so human, struggling with mortal weaknesses, which is where her most striking feature becomes visible: raw candor.
“I don’t care if she fires Desiree, but what if she convinces Zach not to marry me?” And yet her most redeeming quality remains her willingness to acknowledge her own faults, even in tense moments when she admits, “I overreacted because I was scared of losing Zach.”
The stepsisters’ life experiences – and what shaped them, without drawing extensively on their pasts – as well as the glimpse into the darker aspects of human nature are handled incredibly well.
“But even if she’d been the nicest person in the world, it probably wouldn’t have stopped me from doing what I did,”
One of the side characters, Crystal, really made me wonder how endearing genuinely unfiltered, generous, and completely themselves people can be, and at what point their self-absorbed nature becomes too much.
As for the ending, obviously it isn’t meant to be taken at face value. I don’t want to turn this into a spoiler fest, but I would focus on a few key details in the epilogue: Russell’s distance and his being “speechless”; the color of the car (red); and her stepsister, Desiree, standing beside Zach, “windblown and radiant.”
The FMC reflects:
“Seeing them together, I’d swear it’s twenty years ago, and I’m so overcome with fondness for the past that I tear up. Speechless, frozen,”
Both her brother-in-law and the FMC have their defenses up: she is emotionally numb, and both are left “speechless.”
Kyle, her stepsister’s sick son, in “a wool cap on his bald head,” even though “pale and alarmingly gaunt,” is carrying two bags.
And “his big brown eyes are just like Zach’s. Like Harold’s.”
Still, the FMC rushes “forward to embrace him.”
Mind you, I’m by no means suggesting that this work doesn’t falter in terms of technical craft; at several points, it loses more than just its delicate balance of pacing and flow. Trust your reader.
Even so, do those technical imperfections keep me from admiring it? Not in the least.

This book had me talking to the pages like they could hear me.
Katie, the main character, drove me absolutely batty. I spent most of the book thinking, "Girl... come on!" She seemed so naive, but the more I read, the more I realized that's probably how a lot of us would react. When you're in the middle of a confusing situation, it's easy to second-guess yourself, explain away red flags, and convince yourself there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for everything. Looking in from the outside is always easier.
The twists were so much fun. When the truth finally came out, I was laughing while yelling, "I KNEW IT!" at the book like I'd actually solved the mystery hours earlier. (Let's just pretend I wasn't suspicious of absolutely everyone.)
Kristin Harper did a wonderful job developing the characters. As much as Katie tested my patience, I ended up loving her. She had such a kind heart and so much faith in her husband. She wanted to believe the best in him no matter how sketchy things started to look. I also loved how devoted she was to both her own family and her husband's family. She was just genuinely sweet.
Now let's talk about Zach. Sir... what are you doing? This man had me rolling my eyes so hard I was afraid they'd get stuck. His behavior was frustrating, and half the time I wanted to reach through the pages and shake some sense into him. He redeemed himself by the end, but I'm still holding a tiny grudge.
Overall, this was a great, fast-paced family drama that kept me hooked. It was an easy read with plenty of twists, and I had a lot of fun with it. If you enjoy books that have you questioning everyone while simultaneously yelling at fictional characters, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up.
Katie's husband Zach goes on a hiking trip. But the infrequent messages and calls and the inconsistencies in his story is making Katie question if he's telling the truth. Where is her husband and can she trust him?
This book GRIPPED me from the minute I started reading. It had me in such a chokehold I read it from start to finish in one go. The pacing was fantastic, and I absolutely loved the dual timelines. I was enjoying both timelines so much I did not want one to switch to the other, but when they did I felt exactly the same again! In fact, I really wish there had been more of the story told from the past.
I don't think I liked a single character in this book. They all had such huge flaws I wasn't rooting for any of them come the end of the book. I loved Katie, Desiree and Zach in the past timeline. But future Katie is SO naïve. The excuses she makes for her husband are ridiculous, she talks about how she was raised to question a man's actions, yet her husband could tell her the sky is green and she would believe him. Seriously! I just needed a more powerful, independent woman lead, it spoilt the ending of the story for me. What he did to her and the fact she barely questioned it? And lets not get started on her reaction towards her stepsister... that made me rage!
This book would have got 5*, up until the ending. Whilst it wasn't what I was expecting it to be, the twist almost made it a worse read than what the obvious would have been. I just felt it was quite disappointing. I wanted something I never would have been able to think of! I felt the book ended at around 80%, and as much as I loved the pacing and speed of the story, once I got to 80% it dragged and I had to force myself through the rest.
I loved the author's pace and style of writing, I just wish the ending was different.
I think this is a great quick read, perfect for a holiday, and would be loved by readers who love fast paced stories full of family deception.
Can I Trust My Husband? is a gripping, emotional domestic thriller that pulls you straight into the panic, confusion, and heartbreak of a woman whose life unravels in a single phone call. Katie’s world is built on stability — a loving marriage, two bright daughters, a career she enjoys — so when her husband’s “camping trip with friends” turns out to be a lie, the shock hits hard.
The tension builds beautifully from that first moment of doubt. The confused look from another wife, the sudden call from a hospital states away, and the dawning realisation that Zach has been hiding something far bigger than a weekend away. The story handles Katie’s fear and determination with real sensitivity; her desperation to protect her daughters while trying to understand what happened feels incredibly authentic.
What really elevates the book is how the mystery stretches back to the summer Katie and Zach first met. The slow reveal of a long‑buried truth — one that touches both of their families — adds emotional weight to the suspense. It’s not just about betrayal; it’s about how the past shapes the people we become, and how love can survive even the most devastating secrets.
The pacing is tight, the emotional beats land well, and the final chapters deliver a satisfying blend of heartbreak, clarity, and hope. It’s a story about trust, family, and the fragile foundations we build our lives on — and what happens when those foundations crack.
A compelling, heartfelt page‑turner perfect for readers who enjoy domestic suspense with real emotional depth.
With thanks to Kristin Harper, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC
Katie's life seems perfect on the surface - a lovely home, two daughters, a career she loves, and a husband, Zach. So when a supposed camping trip turns out to be a lie, followed by a call telling her Zach is in hospital, her whole world is turned upside down. The story is told across two timelines, and while I liked the characters in the past, I found Katie I the present day bit weak. - I prefer a stronger main female character, and her being a bit wet stopped me from getting as invested in the story as I would have liked. I also found a couple of bits in the plot frustrating: Katie and Zach's marriage was supposed to be so strong that it didn't make sense to me that he wouldn't have confided in her about what he was doing, and I didn't find Desiree's reason for disappearing for so many years convincing either. I was expecting this to be a domestic thriller, and it did eventually get there, but it took such a long time that I found myself bored, with loads of background and not much actually happening until well over halfway through. By the time the big twist landed - which was brilliant, by the way - I just didn't care anymore, so it didn't have the impact it should have had. This is definitely more about my own reading preferences than the book itself, and from other reviews, it's clear I'm an outlier on this one.
3 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Can I Trust My Husband? by Kristin Harper is an addictive, emotionally charged domestic drama that had me flipping pages late into the night! The Premise: Katie thinks her husband, Zach, is away on a guys' weekend camping trip. But her world completely shatters when she gets a frantic call from a hospital miles away—revealing he was never on the trip at all, and he’s been keeping massive secrets from her. My Thoughts: The Suspense & Tension: Kristin Harper does an incredible job of building a quiet, unsettling sense of paranoia. You feel Katie’s heartbreak and confusion in real-time as she tries to piece together why her husband lied and how it all connects back to the summer they first met. Character & Drama: This isn't just a fast-paced thriller; it really focuses on the emotional weight of betrayal, family dynamics, and the fragility of marriage. Pacing: Short chapters and constant micro-reveals make this super fast to read. It's the perfect "just one more chapter" kind of book! Why 4 Stars: While a few of the mid-book reveals were slightly predictable if you read a lot of psychological thrillers, the character development and emotional payout in the final chapters made it a completely worthwhile read. If you love stories about buried pasts, high-stakes family secrets, and flawed characters, definitely add this one to your TBR! Thanks to Netgalley for this advanced reader copy. I have given this 5 stars as i think me and this book just clicked, at first i was thinking its too predictable this with all the signs and analysis am sat there shaking me head thinking can we not see what’s in front of us! When bam it took a real turn and a turn that i didn't see coming.
I loved the easiness of this book, how it was easy to read and follow their lifestyles. A good book to pick up and put down when needed although it didn't last me for very long as i wanted to follow the signs.
The author is down to earth with its characters and i really liked this, Katie the main character absolutely adores her husband and has a solid marriage and a beautiful family life. Until things start to change and Katie starts to fall apart, she's really struggling and doesn’t want to see what's in front of her until she can no longer choose to ignore it.
Katie goes on quite the journey, it unravels a whole host of complex family matters, health, jealousy the impact of wealth and how far will someone go to keep their family together.
Very realistic and i read this book thinking wow this stuff happens in real life. It focuses on what really matters and at times it was sad as these things do happen, it gives a moment of reflection for families.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advance review copy.
I really enjoyed this book. The character development was great; I could imagine all the characters and the story became alive in my mind. Even the majestic family home and gardens had a beautiful presence.
The book is written from Katie’s POV, and she is a very sweet wife and mother. I felt like she was so terribly naïve for the first half of the book. I wanted to shake her through the pages. I got so mad at Zach, the husband as well. Crystal, Katie’s sister-in-law was a hoot!
I liked the shifting between the two timelines, which gradually revealed key pieces of information and kept me engaged throughout the story.
The plot twist was great because it completely changed my understanding of the relationships between the characters while still feeling believable.
The book explores themes of trust and loyalty, and Katie's willingness to believe in the people she loves became one of her most defining qualities.
Overall, this was a well-crafted story that kept me turning the pages and left me feeling satisfied with how all the pieces came together.
Can I Trust My Husband by Kristin Harper wasn’t what I expected, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I went into it thinking I was getting a fairly typical domestic thriller, and it definitely starts out that way. I was intrigued at first, but as the story went on, I realized it just wasn’t the right fit for my reading preferences.
For me, the chapters felt much longer than I prefer. I also struggled with the amount of backstory and exposition. I know many readers felt those details were essential to the overall story, but I found myself wanting to get back to the present-day plot. By the time the twist arrived, it didn’t have quite the impact I was hoping for.
That said, I want to be clear that this is very much a case of “it’s me, not the book.” Kristin Harper is clearly a talented writer, and the story is well written and easy to follow. It simply never grabbed my attention the way I wanted it to, and I never felt fully invested in what was happening.
While I don’t think I’ll be picking up more of her books, I can absolutely understand why this one has found its audience. It just wasn’t a match for my personal tastes.
This is the first book I have read by the author and I rather enjoyed it. Will be looking to read some future books by the author.
In Can I Trust My Husband, Katie is married to Zach and they have two kids that have just went off to college, so now her and her husband are empty nesters. Katie has noticed Zach acting more distant lately. Zach tells Katie he's going on a camping trip with friends. Then she is given an indication that shows that Zach hasn't been truthful, however, Katie is so naive, she wants to believe the best in her husband and doesn't seem to see any red flags. Katie is one of these people that are in complete denial or finds a way to excuse or justify the situation. There are some twists and turns, and the ending was totally not what I was expecting. This is a story that involves a lot of complex family drama, has themes of loyalty, trust, lies, and secrets and is told by a present day and a past timeline. I found the story easy to read and I liked where it ended up going.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the complimentary copy of the story.
I really enjoyed this book, although the ending wrapped up a little too neatly for my taste.
Katie has loved Zach forever, and she even managed to win over his intimidating mother. But when Zach claims he's away on a camping trip, Katie starts to suspect something isn't right. His behavior has changed dramatically, and she can't shake the feeling that he may be having an affair.
Then everything changes when Katie gets a call from the hospital—Zach has been admitted after a serious accident. As he remains unconscious, Katie begins uncovering secrets that make her question everything she thought she knew about her husband and their seemingly perfect life.
There are plenty of secrets, interesting characters, and enough plot twists to keep the pages turning. I did think Katie was a little too trusting at times, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.
If you enjoy domestic thrillers filled with family secrets, lies, and unexpected twists, this one is definitely worth picking up.
The characters are well developed in this book, and the book shifts between two timelines. There is a little too much description, some unnecessary. Katie is far too trusting, and then she isn't. Her love for her family, including her step-sister really shines through. Her sister in law is another story. Suspicious, and flighty, and totally self absorbed.
Well written, I thought I could see where the book was going, but was completely wrong. I have many questions though, if Katie and Zach's marriage was so stable, why didn't he confide in her about what he was up to? The excuse wasn't a viable one for me.
The chapters are a tad too long as well. I find shorter chapters keep me engaged and less likely to stop reading and do something else instead.
All in all, the book was good. I enjoyed it, but it left me feeling a little unsatisfied. Desiree and Katie were closer than blood sisters, it didn't sit right with me that there was a two decade 'silence' from Desiree. And then when she needed help, she suddenly turns up, but doesn't contact Katie.
Holy Wowzers! Can I Trust My Husband is an engaging story that I literally could not put down. I was so enthralled by this wonderful story, I read it cover to cover without moving.
Katie and Zach have dropped their twins off at college and are ready for their next phase in life. When Zach leaves on a camping trip with his buddies, Katie is feeling a divide between them. When he phones her, he is short with her and doesn't fully answer her questions. He also refuses to video chat for some reason. This new and strange behavior has Katie wondering what he's really hiding and will it break them or bring them closer together.
This book was so well written and the characters well depicted. The shifting timelines guides the readers through key points into each character's past. I loved the New England setting. This was my first book by Kristin Harper and I was so impressed I immediately added her to my must read authors list.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy
This was such a gripping domestic thriller, and I couldn’t stop reading once I started. The story follows Katie, who has just sent her twin daughters off to college and is adjusting to the quiet of an empty house. But when her husband Zach suddenly becomes distant and secretive especially during a supposed camping trip Katie starts to question everything she thought she knew about her marriage.
At times I wanted to shake Katie for being so trusting, but the more I read, the more I realized how realistic her reactions were. When you love someone, it’s easy to explain away red flags and convince yourself things are fine. That vulnerability made her feel very human. Zach frustrated me endlessly with his evasive behavior but it also built the tension perfectly.
The dual timelines worked so well. The way the past slowly revealed cracks in their relationship while the present showed Katie’s growing doubts kept me hooked. I loved how the suspense wasn’t just about lies and betrayal, but also about how doubt can change someone from the inside.
Sometimes I don’t want non-stop drama, wild action, and constant twists, I just want to settle into a solid, grounded story and this was exactly that. The characters were well developed, I felt completely invested in them, especially Katie. I found myself cheering her on and holding her hand as she navigated her marriage and questioned her faith in her husband. I wouldn't classify this as a thriller; it felt much more like a coming-of-age story centered on love and marriage... with that "coming of age" stage being empty-nesting. This was my first book by Kristin Harper, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her work. The pages flipped by fast, the story maintained a wonderfully satisfying pace and I simply enjoyed the ride. Highly recommended and well worth the read! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy. The comments and opinions are mine alone.
I knew that I had to read this book when I read this blurb. Katie and Zach are married with two daughters. Katie loves her life but she notices that Zach has been distant lately. He decides to go camping with some friends, but then Katie learns there;s no camping trip! To make matters worse, she gets a call from the hospital that Zach was brought in with serious injuries. This was more than just a possible cheating story. It was an emotional rollercoaster and I read it in one night because I HAD to find out how it ended. I loved the twisty ending and it tied everything up nicely. Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. What a rollercoaster of a book! I'm new to Kristin Harper but absolutely following her now. This book takes place in flash-sequences. On all accounts, Katie and Zach have the perfect marriage- they just dropped their twin daughters at college and are ready to settle in as empty-nesters. Zach decides to go camping with friends and Katie discovers that's not where he is at all after receiving a phone call from a hospital in New Hampshire. Hospital? How, where, why begins to slowly unravel with a twist you'll never see coming.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of Can I Trust My Husband? Katie frustrated me throughout the whole book. She annoyed me so much regarding Zach’s phone calls while he was away and Lucinda in the hospital. BUT she turned out to be the most real character in the whole book. I cannot remember a novel that made me change the way I thought about a character the way this one did. Crystal was a piece of work, so much attention on herself, but such a funny lighthearted character. The ending of this book was phenomenal. I understood everything and how it played out and why it played out the way it did. Russell turned out to be a surprise too. This was a really good book. Thank you again.

This dual-timeline, character-driven drama is centered on Katie and Zach Sutherland, and their twenty-year relationship. The two met in college and are now married with twin daughters who just left for college. When she discovers that Zach is keeping secrets from her, she must decide how to move forward.
If you’re like me, and enjoy stories that make you sit back and consider how you would react to situations characters find themselves in, then this book will not disappoint.
I have seen this story categorized as a thriller; however, it falls more into the family drama genre in my opinion.
Can I Trust My Husband? This gripping psychological thriller proves that trust is rarely that simple. Kristin Harper weaves together lies, double lives, betrayal, and heart-stopping moments that kept me questioning every character's motives. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist had me second-guessing what I believed.
This was one of those books that was equal parts gripping and frustrating, in the very best way. If you enjoy suspenseful domestic thrillers filled with secrets, deception, and unexpected turns, you'll want to add this one to your reading list. What more can I say?
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was a great character driven novel. Katie lets her sister in law’s insecurities influence her thinking when it comes to her husband. Yes Zach isn’t being completely truthful, but that doesn’t mean he’s cheating. I liked learning about her sometimes complicated relationships with her family.
I wanted to know what was really going on with Zach. It was easy to fly through this book (especially because it was under 300 pages) because I needed answers. I was not expecting the big twist, and that made the story that much better.
I liked that part of this book was set in New Hampshire. I do wish that there were real locations mentioned in the story, instead of fictional ones, especially because real cities were named, but that’s because I live there, most people wouldn’t notice.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of this book.
Katie’s husband said he was on a camping trip with friends. Then a hospital calls from two states away and a confused look from another wife makes everything unravel.
Zach has been hiding something that stretches all the way back to the summer they first met and the slow reveal of what it is adds real emotional weight to the mystery.
Katie is sweet to the point of naivety and will test your patience constantly, but the more you read the more you realise most of us would do exactly the same. The twists are fun, the pacing is tight and the ending delivers.
A warm, emotional domestic thriller that keeps you yelling at the pages in the best way.
I really enjoyed the author's writing. it was keeping me interesting and easy to read.
I wanted to come here and say that I know what was the secret Katie's husband was keeping but the author managed to proved me wrong.
Katie is a likeable character, bit of passive and sometimes afraid to say what she really thinks and feels. she is a dedicated mother and a wife. Zach is keeping a secret and afraid to tell Katie the whole truth.
As much as I found Katie likeable I couldn't connect to her brother and sister in laws- both of them obsessed with image and games.
overall it was a good read. the writing style really suited me.
After reading reviews of this book and having read other books by this author, I decided to give it a try. This is a fast moving novel of love, lies and misunderstandings between family members spanning over twenty years. Two wives becoming suspicious of their husband's activities and disappearances , leading them both to conclude that the men are having affairs. What is actually happening is a completely different story of underlying secrets. Not one of my favorite books by this author, but I did finish it. A good beach read for the summer.
Other reviews keep calling this book a thriller. I'm not sure where that's coming from. This is a family drama. It's a good family drama about a family that could be torn apart by lies. It seems at some points like most of the characters are lying.
The main character's husband goes on a hiking trip with old buddies. At least that's what he tells his wife. The story starts unraveling and pretty soon you don't know if characters are cheating or not.
This was very well written and kept me involved in the plot.
Thanks to Bookouture for the digital copy. All thoughts are my own.
By nature I am skeptical and suspicious. I would have been doing exactly what Crystal was doing and snooping as much as I could. I thought Katie was rather naive in her thinking because my mind always considers the worst possible scenario. I suspected someone had had relations with several people but I was glad I was proven wrong. I didn’t agree with the need for the secrecy because it caused a lot of unnecessary angst but then that’s a large chunk of the story line. Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance read.
Can I Trust My Husband? Kristin Harper This was more emotionally driven than I was expecting. While the story flowed smoothly, I was a tad bored with the repetitiveness of Katie’s inner dialogue.
The dilemma was not as earth-shattering as it was built up to be; I actually guessed the big twist about halfway through. Though, the story was fine and the characters were well developed.
If you enjoy emotionally driven plots with bold characters and family drama, this is the book for you.
