Terry's Only Term

Rate this book
Terry and Gloria are orphans with a tiny income which just supports them while Gloria, winner of a scholarship, works hard at an Art School Then comes a commission for Gloria, and while she goes off to America to execute it, Terry commences her only term-at Pinewoods School.

And now a new life starts for Terry. It contains much that is pleasant, experiences not quite so, and quite a spice of mystery. Near Pinewoods, by a happy chance, she discovers the little house which she and Gloria have always dreamed of-the very house shown in a sketch left by her dead artist-father. Of course, Terry has not thought that the little house will ever be hers and Gloria's, but it is good to know that it really exists and to write to Gloria about. So Terry dreams and works.

At last Gloria returns in triumph. But things have been happening at Pinewoods, too. A mystery has been solved and a discovery made-Terry has much to tell Gloria. But what she has to say brings the story to an end. What is it?

Ethel Talbot

135 books6 followers
A prolific English children's author, known primarily for her girls' school stories, Ethel Mary Talbot was born in 1880, in Sutton Coldfield. She was the daughter of Hugh Talbot, and his wife, Margaret Ellen Turrell, committed members of the Plymouth Brethren, and had at least eight sisters and one brother. The family moved frequently, and little is known of Talbot's early years, or her education. As an adult, she settled in Edinburgh, where she shared a house with her friend and fellow school story author E.M. de Foubert, from 1914 to 1916. Talbot remained in Edinburgh until the 1930s, at which point she moved to London. During WWII she moved to Hayward's Heath, where she died in 1944.
