The Pace of Us

The Pace of Us is the third and final book in The Love in Motion Series

Eden Sawyer thought she had life figured out.
She’s married. She’s successful.
She owns a house and somehow became the person who cares about laundry settings.
Sloane Bishop, meanwhile, has a secret.
It involves babies.
And feelings.
And the very real possibility of blowing up their perfectly good life by saying the quiet part out loud.
Between work stress, surprise houseguests, and a future that suddenly feels very loud, Eden and Sloane find themselves facing the one conversation they’ve been carefully jogging around for what happens if one of them wants more?
As the pressure builds and the stakes rise, they’ll have to figure out whether love is enough to carry them forward—or if changing pace means changing everything.

Funny, sharp, and full of heart, The Pace of Us delivers domestic chaos, grown-up romance, and the satisfying conclusion to The Love In Motion Series, where choosing each other was never the question—only how.

This is the third and final book in the series, telling the story of Eden and Sloane and all their family and friends. It is so well thought out; in book one we had them at high school in Colorado, starting when Eden and her sister and parents moved stateside from the UK. Book two was college, and all of the trials and tribulations that come from the stresses of college. This third book starts a few years later, when Sloane has her physiotherapy clinic starting to be successful, and Eden is beginning to become well known as an international artist, showing and selling her paintings in the US, the UK, and later in Europe. This is their story, their family changing, both women learning how to cope with the profound differences and to still stay in love, and to show their love in a fun, often wacky way. One thing I really enjoy here is that the steamy scenes are an integral part of the story; while they are making love, there are also snippets of important conversations happening that impact other parts of the story. You couldn’t play dice with these scenes and slot them in anywhere; their position in the story is important.
It is best to read all three books in sequence, even though this could be read as a stand-alone.
I also liked the cover art by Lise Gold.

Read the series in order, they all deserve to be read but to get the full story arc the first two need to be read first. Book 3 starts with Roots trademark humour! However if you have had a wee gap between book 2 and 3, the first chapter gets you right in the middle of their life immediately.
This is an established couple and proves there does not have to be a third arc breakup or misunderstanding for there to be a gripping story. Often established couples have a walk on role in a series other books, and each book has a new romance as the Center story. This couple are the main attraction in all books. I think the books are richer for it.
Anyone surprised to find themselves adulting, no matter the age, will find many truths as well as smiles in the first chapter and to be honest, every subsequent chapter. This is low angst and is really a love letter to love that is settled but not settling. Trying to be there for your partner and do the right thing is enough plot….. no plot twists just for drama or messing with the mains other than real life is messy and just because we have our love by our side doesn't make life easy or boring. Pretty much angst free and humour filled, I loved that this wasn't about the first stirrings of love or the excitement of establishing a relationship but rather about still feeling stirrings once the dust has settled and the excitement of supporting or being supported as you discover together that the dust may have settled but more dust will follow and the grass will need cut again.....

You'll need to read the first two books in the Love in Motion series before this one because it jumps right in - and if you aren't familiar with Sloane, Eden, their friends, and family it will be hard to catch up.

Sloane and Eden are now in their 30's and navigating all the changes and questions that being solidly in adulthood means. They both have established, successful careers. Their ties with their friends are as close as ever and they all support each other as they adapt to life changes.

I liked how there were factors both in and out of the control of Eden and Sloane; and how they worked through them, even if at times they weren't great with their communication.

They book jumped forward in the time frames and at times I felt that there were key moments that were skipped over that I would have liked to have read. This might be more of a me issue, I like a linear progression, rather than leaps forward in the books I read. I will say, that the change in time periods were very clearly articulated.

I enjoyed getting to see how Eden and Sloane have progressed in their relationship, what they have been able to build together, and how they and their friends continue to show up for each other.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a digital advanced reader copy to be able to read and provide an honest review.

ARC Review, These are my honest thoughts.

| have missed Eden and Sloane and their love story. It was an absolute pleasure to read The Love in Motion series, it is best to read the 3 books in order to know all the ins and outs of what is happening. Alyson’s humour throughout this series doesn’t disappoint one bit. There were many times, my wife thought I had lost it laughing to myself. Now what will you find in the Pace of Us, you will find weddings, big moves, tiny humans, and of course running, all happening in this book. Eden and Sloane, their friends and families all have a period of growth in book 3. All working toward the futures they want to achieve, I really appreciate how much story Alyson’s gives us on the side characters.... Though I would happily devour a book wrote with any of the side characters in this series as MCs. It’s beautiful to watch these two mature in their love through the series, even more in book 3 as it covers a large period of time and several bigger events in their lives. Alyson gives clear points, when she is taking us forward in time whether it’s 18 months or 5ish years, she makes sure you know exactly where in the stories you are. This book wasn’t typical, it wasn’t plot heavy. No it gave us real life and how people move through it and | absolutely loved it, I would of read more!

A Spark of Joy

Alyson Root’s books always spark joy and this story is no exception with several laugh out loud moments. The main characters and their eclectic group of friends are such fun. I wanted a book to lighten my mood and this one hit the spot. This is the third in the series and the journey of the characters means they are best read in order.

This was a nice conclusion for Eden and Sloane. Some parts felt slow then others felt like a blink and you miss it situation. To me that made it seem more realistic to how life seems to work. Getting to follow an established couple to the end was nice and I will miss this group of friends greatly.

I loved the whole series and sad to see it’s the final book. I really enjoyed the much longer than usual timeline for the full growing up experience. Some very well observed scenes of “goblin” behaviours which made me laugh and remember fondly.
Read all 3 books in order for best results.

I was accepted by Alyson Root to be a part of the ARC team for The Pace Of Us and below is my honest review.

I patiently (impatiently) waited for this book to come around and now it’s here! It’s book 3 in the Love In Motion series and yet again, I loved it!

This time we get to see Sloane and Eden in their thirties navigating life as wives and figuring out what they want their life to look like.

I’ve been attached to Sloane and Eden since book 1 and I’ve loved following their story from the start and think this was the perfect way to round it up. I also love the fact we get to see their friends and family again!

The story is real, relatable and has some lines that made me cackle 😂

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a realistic and hopeful sapphic romance!

Thank you Alyson for asking me to read and review!

I give this 5 stars!

**ARC Review**

The Pace of Us was a perfect conclusion to the Love in Motion Series.

It’s a cozy, easy read that takes us through Eden and Sawyer’s journey in adulthood, navigating all of the tough questions that come with that phase of life - who am I now? Do I want children? What kind of parent would I be? How do I maintain a sense of identity even in the face of the pressures of adulthood? How do I keep the love and passion alive in my relationship? What does happiness look like for me?

I like that the story sort of jumped ahead from time to time, giving us a few chapters around each different phase/question. As someone who’s dealt with the challenges of queer fertility/conception, I think I would have appreciated digging into their actual fertility journey a bit.

Overall, I loved the character arcs in this book, even though it wasn’t very plot heavy. The ending felt exciting and perfect for Sloane and Eden and I’m so glad to feel like I have closure for ALL of the character’s from the friend group. I also loved that Bryce shows up again! He’s such an underrated character from the series and seems like a genuinely solid dude.
