Julie Milo

Julie Milo spends most of her time reading and writing. When she’s not reading and writing scholarly stuff for her day job, she’s reading romance, nonfiction, and literary fiction for fun. She writes closed door/kisses only (also called “sweet”) romantic comedies.

Julie was raised, but not born, in Florida where she started dictating stories to her parents before she even knew how to write. By kindergarten she was writing and illustrating picture books and subjecting her classmates to read alouds at school. While the illustrating did not stick (her drawing skills never evolved past about third grade), the writing did, and for most of her childhood, her answer to “What do you want to be when you grow up?” was “an author.” Returning to writing decades later is a dream come true, and Julie is proud to finally be able to call herself an author.

Julie currently lives on the Gulf coast of Florida with her thoughtful husband, two amazing children, and two dogs (one delightful pit bull and one very energetic black lab). She loves dessert and hates cold weather.

This story kept me eagerly turning each page as the slow burn between Taylor and Jackson simmered between them.

I liked that, as the reader, it was clear where both of these characters were starting from emotionally. Even though they had this pull and attraction between them, there were other things that kept Jackson from fully opening himself up to Taylor. Yet, as they spent time together and grew closer than just the "friends" that Jackson claimed they were, walls that Jackson struggled to keep strong seemed as if they might tumble and give these two a chance together. I enjoyed the way things eventually played out and how the author was able to bring it all to a satisfying conclusion.

The setting of this story was amazing and the way the author made me feel as if I was right there, experiencing it for myself, was such a treat!

This is my new favorite book by Julie Milo. It was so much fun imagining Yellowstone, riding horses, Jackson’s rock climbing, and all the cowboy costumes at the ranch. I loved the premise of Taylor having never been kissed but not that Jackson didn’t think he was good enough to be her first kiss. I loved the sweet friendship that Taylor and Jackson initially built before their first date.

Favorite parts
-the game of hearts! Bahahah.
-their first trip to Yellowstone
-their rock by the creek
-their deal-
-their sweet first date

Favorite quotes:
Maybe it’s obvious that Taylor’s caught my eye. But it’s also obvious that she’s the kind of woman you marry, not the kind you fool around with to pass the summer. I’m better off keeping my distance.

As I start to turn away, she flashes a smile that’s pure sunshine. Gorgeous sunshine. Taylor has this lightness about her, and I’ve felt dark inside for so many years now that she draws me in. I’m jealous of her ability to be effortlessly happy.

Jackson singsongs, and I can’t help but admire how handsome he looks right now, boyish and carefree. Happy.

I love Taylor.
I tried hard to deny it all summer, but I’ve been a goner from the beginning. She hustled me out of my heart at the same time she hustled me at cards.
The idea that I don’t need to be perfect to love Taylor settles into my soul. Shells with perfect spirals are beautiful, but even the broken ones are worth keeping. I’m worth keeping.

Artist Point - Julie Milo

This was such a cute little romance. The descriptions of the scenery of the national Park and the outdoors it’s just so incredibly detailed. I love how atmospheric it is and you can just closure your eyes and imagine you’re there with these characters. I thought the characters like Taylor and Jackson and Nick and Becca were very interesting and I liked the dynamic that Taylor and Jackson had. It’s not typically when I see often in the books I usually read, which is why this was such a nice fun treat. And I love how even though there was a difference in once in the very beginning Jackson was still very respectful of Taylor because of that.

Y'all, don't sleep on this sweet romance with an immersive Yellowstone National Park setting.

Neither Taylor nor Jackson were looking for romance when they started working at a guest ranch in Wyoming for the summer, but sometimes chemistry just can't be ignored! They both had reasons not to pursue a relationship, and because of that, the two were able to first develop a lovely friendship (a friendship filled with romantic tension, of course).

There are so many wonderful, likeable characters in this story. I loved the friendships with their cabin mates and how sweet the ranch owners are. Grammy may not be in many scenes, but she certainly steals the show when she's around! Where the book really shines is the setting. It truly is like a love letter to Yellowstone. Though I've never been there in person, I now feel like I have been! I also now know the difference between a buffalo and a bison. 😉

Highlights:
🦬 Scenic outdoor adventures
🐎 Never been kissed
🦬 Summer romance
🐎 "Our spot"
🦬 She falls first, but he falls harder

Content:
💕: kisses
⚠️: past loss of parent; past cancer; difficult relationship with parent; accident requiring hospitalization

Thank you to the author for the complimentary eARC.

It was good! It was a good romance.

And I think many women would be surprised to meet their relative’s new boyfriend and find him being sensitive and buying stuffed animals.

And I appreciated the notes on grief and the occasional horse-related puns. And the great prose toward the end of Chapter 26. And “torturously handsome” 😂

It also made me smile a little to read the adjustments to the western U.S. that Taylor had to go through. To be fair, though, on the flip side, I’ve never been to Florida. If somebody wanted a novel version of a Wyoming-and-Yellowstone travel pamphlet, this book would be great (:

Yeesh to Jackson’s toxic dad…

Animal trauma is real 🤷‍♀️ just ask my youngest brother. Although he would not enjoy mountain climbing, either 😂 And Mesa the horse reminds me of my horse Maddie at my third Girls’ Camp 😂

I’m no real artist—that’s my best friend—but hey! I always liked best drawing things based off of photographs when I was in high school art class, too!

*Spoiler alert: Aww, I was hoping that Pistol was hard to love but just needed the right person like Taylor maybe even to adopt her because she started not doing well as a horse for regular riders…

Artist Point follows the story of Taylor and Jackson when their lives intertwine at B&B Ranch outside of Cody, Wyoming. Taylor is 22, trying to figure out what her next move after college is going to be, a horse wrangler for the summer, and ready to find the one she can settle down and start a family with. Jackson is a thrill seeker who is planning an epic rock climbing adventure at the end of the summer, a veteran activity guide, good at keeping himself a distance from others, and isn’t looking for anything serious any time soon. But then they play a game of hearts together…

The setting of this book brought back so many good memories from a family trip in college to Yellowstone. I can’t even imagine getting to spend a summer there working, especially when my cold weather heart is longing for days where a jacket is needed!! This was a sweet YA closed door romance and made for a quick read.

Thank you, Julie Milo and Happily Ever Readers, for the ARC.

This book involves everything I absolutely love! What do you mean a rock climber and a horse girl gets together!? This deeply reminds me of Heartland, my favorite show growing up. When a horse girl meets someone who is completely opposite of herself, and becomes inseparable. I love the little moments between those two, and this books shows both point of views! It really melted my heart to see what they would say about each other. ALSO, their best friends teaming up to bring them together was hilarious! I really like how it shows emotional development for each of the character. One being afraid of relationship, and another had never experienced being in a relationship. I also have to talk about the scenery! This story was placed on a ranch near the Yellowstone park! This makes me want to work on a ranch during the summer and become a wrangler haha. The description and the storytelling was absolutely amazing! This was a perfect short summer clean read!

Artist Point is a cute, no spice, strangers-to-friends-to-lovers Western romance set in Wyoming. The novel seamlessly alternates perspectives between Taylor, a young woman from Florida who is trying to decide her next step in life, and Jackson, a young man who is struggling with trauma and betrayal, and training for a climb of Gannett Peak. The two meet working at the B&B ranch and instantly their lives are changed by each others’ presence.

Milo’s writing is descriptive and immersive. Her characters felt real, and I found myself rooting for Taylor in a small game of hearts in Chapter 4. The descriptions of the Yellowstone National Park made me feel like I was there while simultaneously making me want to visit it myself. The novel is engaging and I couldn’t put it down.

The tropes in this book include strangers to friends to lovers, never been kissed, cowgirl x rock climber, and she falls first, he falls harder.

I recommend Artist Point for fans of no spice romance.

I received a digital ARC of this book. This is my first time reading this author but it won’t be the last. If you like Hallmark movies, you’ll enjoy this sweet story of Taylor and Jackson. Taylor just graduated college and heads to Wyoming to work at a vacation ranch as a horse guide. Jackson is returning to work on the ranch for his 4th summer. They both notice each other on their first night but neither are looking for romance. But the magnetic pull they seem to have continues. But at the end of the summer Taylor will be going back to Florida and Jackson will go back to Colorado, so is it even worth seeing if they can be more than friends? You’ll have to read to find out! I read most of this book in one sitting.

I finished this book in one day, it was so great that I didn’t want to put it down!

I adored the two main characters, Jackson and Taylor. They were such a great pair with great depth to their characters. I loved the character development for Jackson. My heart broke for him several times! Reading about his story and the things he dealt with in life and how he learned and grew from it was amazing.

I also enjoyed the character development of Taylor. She is a tough and brave young woman! Willing to stand up and say what needs to be said! She is amazing!

This no spice, dual point of view story flows really well and kept my interest through the entire book. I really love books by this author and can’t recommend them enough! Definitely pick this one up!

A ranch near Yellowstone…you betcha! Such a fun story setting.

Taylor and Jackson have an instant connection from the beginning and I enjoyed their spark. Taylor is sunshine and Jackson can’t help but bask in her presence. They both know what they want, but that doesn’t mean they get it.

There were several tender and heart aching moments for both Taylor and Jackson. Through the hard things in this book, it made their friendship that much sweeter. I loved their bet and how she helped him with his fear of horses. The side characters quickly become cheerleaders.

Things I Loved
The Rock
The Bet
Game of Hearts
His rock climbing
Ranch Owners
Her love of horses

If you’re looking for a good summer vacation, finding yourself, building, friendships, and an incredible setting, this book is for you!

I had the opportunity to read Artist Point as an ARC reader 🥹. I am forever grateful to Julie that she chooses me to read her books. This is my fourth ARC read by Julie and for the fourth time I feel absolutely happy and joyful 🥹😭.
This book, Taylor and Jackson’s story, was so wholesome 🥹. The transition from strangers, to friends, to lovers was WELL DONE. This was my first story with that trope and I loved it!
I relate to Taylor with not fully knowing what life holds after graduating college. It’s hard and scary. I loved her growth and how she does anything she puts her mind to 🥹.
Jackson, oh Jackson, he’s a sweetheart 😭. His backstory is sad, but the way he fought through everything was inspiring. Him and Taylor are perfect together 🥹

This book was an absolute delight to read. Julie Milo is quickly becoming a well loved author and this story may just be her best yet. The strangers-to-friends-to-lovers trope was so fun and sweet. Readers will thoroughly enjoy watching Taylor and Jackson's relationship bloom. It's also easy to relate to because Milo does an excellent job of portraying real life family dynamics and how things in life affect relationships for better or for worse. A beautiful and emotional story set in the splendid backdrop of Yellowstone National Park. An absolute must read!

FTC An e-copy of the book was provided for review and later a print copy purchased for my trophy shelf. A review was not required and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jackson & Taylor Stole My Heart!

This has to be one of my all-time favorite romances! From the time I read the synopsis, I knew this book was going to have a piece of my heart. Jackson and Taylor’s love story reminds me so much of the relationship between my husband and I. There are so many similarities from personalities to my husband and I’s love of national parks. This book had me feeling all of the emotions: excitement, anger, sadness, worry, and everything in between. It was such a journey to be a part of Jackson and Taylor’s love story from the very beginning. I love this book and highly recommend it!

Never been kissed!??
This was such a sweet story!
The Yellowstone setting was actually perfect!
If you love sweet romance then you will love Julie’s books.
She really paints the world for you, making you feel like you’ve really stepped onto a ranch in Wyoming.
I actually love the fact that Jackson is from Boulder, CO (where I hail from) and Taylor is from Ocala, FL (where I now reside)! Makes it so much more immersive for me.
Game of hearts=king of my heart ❤️

I read the ARC for this book and I am in love with it! I felt like I was falling in love all over again! It really caused me to think about when I fell in love with my husband and brought back all of those emotions! The sweet budding romance between the MC’s gave me all the feels, but it’s not just about the romance! Both MC’s have life decisions to make and the MMC deals with grief. A must read!!

I was completely unprepared for how much I enjoyed this story! It's my new favorite of this author's books. My favorite part was the setting, I could see it all in my mind, especially having been to this area a few times in my life. I really liked Taylor and could relate to her. I understood Jackson and his actions, even if I didn't love every choice he made. The ending was so sweet and wrapped up perfectly. Don't miss this one!

I enjoyed this sweet story based in Yellowstone, the author brought it to life. From riding horses and mountain climbing there is so much excitement in this book. With a sweet romance between Taylor, who has never been kissed and Jackson who is kind and caring but carries pain from how his father treats him. This is a wonderful story.

In Artist Point, Taylor and Jackson are coworkers at a ranch. Taylor is all-in, but Jackson needs some convincing. A few hikes through the national park might be just what he needs.

It was so refreshing to read a book in which the FMC is not angsty and emotionally unavailable. In this one the FMC falls first and wears her heart on her sleeve.
Artist Point is a nice feel-good story with the perfect amount of drama. It's a true cowboy romance and I loved the nods to Yellowstone within.

4.5 (rounded up for Goodreads)

This was my first time reading a book by Julie Milo, but it definitely won't be my last. Eager to read more by her!
I loved the emotional maturity of the characters as they walk through their relationship. It's not perfect, sure. But I also appreciate a quick resolution between adults.
Julie paints (ha!) the landscape and adventure of Bear and Bison Ranch so perfectly and you feel like you're right there taking in the beauty of the Ranch and Yellowstone.

This sweet, closed door romance had me turning pages quickly and giddy with Taylor and Jackson's relationship.

Content: kisses only

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Artist Point is a story about falling for someone when you least expect it.

Artist Point is a story of two people who find love when they least expect it. It is a story of two strangers, Taylor and Jackson, who work together at a summer ranch. The magnetic pull they have for each other from the very beginning drew me in so fast. As they start to come together Taylor has never been kissed and Jackson thinks he is not good enough to be her first. I loved this angle of the book. Watching the two characters wind around each other before colliding was so great. The tension between them building was worth the payoff at the end.

With the backdrop of Yellowstone National Park, riding horses, rock climbing, and all the fun shenanigans in between..this story had me hooked. I couldn’t put this book down. It was just so good!

What can you expect when reading Artist Point:

❤️ Strangers to friends
🌲 Friends to lovers
❤️ Cowgirl x rock climber
🌲 Never been kissed
❤️ She falls first
🌲 He falls harder

Triggers:

⚠️ a parent's death
⚠️ parental betrayal
⚠️ a medical emergency, hospital, mention of injury

Artist Point is a sweet romance that is set around Yellowstone National Park and what a sweet story of finding your happily ever after. I really enjoyed reading about Jackson and Taylor’s adventures while they worked in Wyoming at the B&B Ranch for the summer. Both never knowing that their entire lives were about to change.

A sweet clean romance with a Yellowstone Park background is hard to put down. The author’s detail to the Park is wonderful. You feel like you could be right there with the characters. On the hikes, on the trails, fly fishing with Jackson.

Reading about how these characters started seeing things differently and how their feelings changed and reading as these two open up to one another was a great experience. I really enjoyed every thing about this book. A kisses only romance. 🥰

Highly recommended.

What a beautiful story with beautiful characters and animals. Working for the summer with animals, tourist and in a beautiful national park. Meeting new people, looking at beautiful scenery, enjoying time with the horses and enjoying the company of a certain guy who stole not only her time but her heart. Taylor and Jackson you gave me a story to remember, a sweet story that no matter how long you wait for your first kiss yo happen it can be worth it all. She is a cowgirl, He is a climber but man they fit great together. I love this story, real, relatable, gives you all the feeling, charatcers you will love and a story you will remember.
