When the lights went out, civilization fell in hours. Now survival means becoming someone you never thought you'd be.
Winter tightens its grip on the Missouri high country, and the cabin can no longer stand alone.
Jeff Prescott beat back the raiders once, but the man who beat him to the punch is gone, replaced by someone and something colder. A new commander has taken the reins of the camp, arriving with hardened men, horses, and ambitions that stretch far beyond a single cabin in the woods. His eyes are on the Pressley farm: the livestock, the land, the supplies that could feed an army. To survive the siege coming for them, Jeff, Rachel, and Bella must pull an entire farm through frozen wilderness before the camp claims it first.
But Jeff carries a secret about Bella's family. Blood on his hands he's desperate to keep buried. When the truth threatens to surface, the alliance holding the line could shatter at the worst possible moment.
A thousand miles west, Sam pushes east past the burning ruins of Denver, dodging military patrols and spreading wildfires, clinging to one promise: get home.
The enemy is mounting up. The walls are closing in. And the family may be overrun before help ever arrives.
So this is book 5 in the Downfall series. It contains 48 chapters and also includes a Prologue. I appreciate the prologue as it gives a brief rundown of everything that has happened in the previous 4 books. I however didn’t happen to need to read it as I literally have binge-read books 1-4 to be able to be an Advanced Reader for this book.
This series is fantastic but please please please read these books in order. There is so much going on and so many moving parts that you will be helplessly lost otherwise.
Jeff = still my favorite character. Rachel = still my least favorite character. Everyone = great characters. In this book there’s quite a bit of bath and forth between past and present which I think gives the reader a better idea of everything happening behind the scenes before the EMP went off.
I have to say Holy crap though! Chapter 46 drops a bomb I never saw coming! I know book 6 will be published soon so I’m excited to not have to wait too long for whatever happens next!
