An Accusing at the Old Bailey

Rate this book
The thrilling finale to the highly rated Regency romance series

Sir Bertrand Thorndike is on another mission-this one in the scientific community. But when a simple game of espionage becomes a murder investigation and Bertie's friend Rhynwick Davies is the accused, Bertie enlists the help of his pseudo-fiancée Philippa Cashel to spare Rhynwick from the gallows.

Together, they delve into poisons, passions, and peril. With the true killer still on the loose, Bertie must balance proving Rhynwick's innocence with his plans to persuade Philippa to make their false engagement real.

The final installment in the Of Cloaks & Daggers series from a New York Times best-selling author will be the biggest test yet of Bertie and Philippa's skill and bravery-and of their love.

"Deliciously twisty and delightfully romantic, An Accusing at the Old Bailey is everything readers adore about an Erica Vetsch novel. Vibrant historical details create an atmosphere worthy of a BBC drama as Bertie and Philippa take on their most daring case yet."

I’ve really enjoyed Erica’s Regency world, so I was thrilled to read this one. Its not my favorite by her though there were things I liked about it so I’ll start there…

What I liked: I loved seeing familiar characters from the previous books! Bertie and Phillipa as well as The Swanns and Haverlys are all fabulous fictional type friends. The theme of identity in Christ and forgiveness of the past was beautifully done. The mystery kept me turning pages, too, though the end did shock me.

Where I struggled:
**SPOILER**: I haven’t seen anyone else mention this, but one aspect of the mystery has to do with incest and basically pedophilia. It really put a damper on the book for me. Thinking about that literally makes me want to be sick because it’s so twisted. It’s not with any of the main characters but it absolutely plays a major roll in the “aha” moment AND I feel like it was kind of glossed over.
***END SPOILER***
Conclusion: if the above doesn’t stress you out like it does me, you’ll enjoy this book. It’s not one I will revisit because of the spoiler which stinks because the other aspects were good! It’s well written and the ending was sweet. I would read more by this author.

Note: I received an ARC copy from Netgalley and the publisher. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I'm not saying I squealed when I got this book in the mail, but I'm not NOT saying it, either.

This book is the perfect culmination of the Of Cloaks & Daggers series. There's espionage, murder, and all the good stuff you want in a book.

I really can't say more than that-don't want to give anything away. But trust me: you want to read this book!

I had been waiting in great anticipation for this concluding book in the wonderful Cloaks and Daggers series to experience the next adventure with Sir Bertrand "Berti" Thorndike and Philippa "Pippa" Cashel, two of my all-time favorite fictional characters. It was everything I hoped for and more! Ms. Vetsch once again breathes life into the Regency Era with this intriguing adventure that kept me hooked from start to finish. The multi-layered plot, including a murder investigation and political espionage, kept me guessing all the way to the heartbreaking reveal. Berti and Philippa's romance, framed by a fake engagement for "practical reasons", exudes delightful chemistry and mutual respect. I kept wanting to yell at them to just tell each other how they really felt! I love the perfectly timed humor injected into the story especially one conversation between Bertie and his sister-in-law that had me laughing out loud! I appreciate the gentle faith thread that is so naturally woven into the story. I highly recommend this top-notch, satisfying blend of history, mystery, romance, and faith.

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Let me start by saying that plans may need to be canceled in order to read the last twenty percent. Just one more chapter won’t be enough!

With the same main characters throughout the series, and knowing we get a fake engagement in this one, there was no way that I was going to miss out on the sloowww-burn. I had to go back to book one! I only wish I had gone back even further, to the Swann & Thorndike Regency Mysteries, as it seems readers first meet Sir Bertrand in that series. I love it when stories connect! Fortunately, I’ve read the Serendipity & Secrets series, and I’m glad Philippa got her own love story!

Just briefly, I would recommend starting at the very least with book one in this series, because this one contains spoilers if you haven’t read the other two already.

Both main characters have lessons to learn, but I think readers will especially appreciate the advice a certain side character gives to Sir Bertrand—he is in desperate need of it! *cough* Mr. Darcy *cough*

While the story focuses more on the mystery than the romance, in this case, it just makes those moments with the main characters more precious! It brings me back to the days of popular TV shows and ships, how fandoms eagerly waited for just a moment between two characters. With the slow-burn stretching across three books, this novel definitely has a season-three-will-they-finally-get-together feel to it!

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and I think the epilogue fits this series very well! Keep in mind, though, that mature topics are included in this story. It’s a heart-wrenching read at times, but hope is undaunted. I really liked the themes of restoration and service!

Content:
(Please note that the content warnings are not comprehensive in order to avoid spoilers)
Christian Historical Mystery/Romance
Intimacy level: Mostly Kisses Only (infrequent, quick, vague hint of fade to black between a married couple)
Language: No profanity
Sensitive subjects (applicable to the series): Heartbreaking and mature themes, which includes vague references to what the FMC had endured after being forced into prost*tution. She now works to save—and educate—others, including m*nors.

What began as a scientific symposium to use as a cover to discover an enemy of the Crown became a murder of one of the scientists, with Bertie and Philippa are right in the center of it. There is much to untangle in this story of espionage and discovering the culprit before it is too late for their wrongfully accused friend, Rhynwick Davies.

Philippa has a lot to overcome in her feelings of shame and worthlessness. Bertie, friends and family are so supportive in reminding her that the past has made her be compassionate and aware of the plight of others, but it doesn’t define who she has become.

Tropes and Tidbits:
fake engagement
forced proximity
Eleos students
danger
agents for the Crown
Bow Street Runners
faith thread

This is the third book in the Cloak and Dagger series, and I recommend you read the other two books since the characters from previous stories are an intricate part of the plot. I’d recommend this book to older readers due to mature content. I have enjoyed this series with its plots of danger, but also the development of many of the characters throughout these books.

CW: s3xual assault mentioned, but not described

I love the world that Ms. Vestch has created in Regency England in 1816. The Haverlys, friends, and relatives are working undercover for the crown. This book deals with Sir Bertrand Thorndike and his fiancée Phillipa Cashall. But not only is Bertie tasked with two pressing cases, he is also trying to get Pippa to realize he wants the tenuous fake relationship to be authentic.
Case one is tracking down a possible subversive movement against the government and case two, a friend is falsely accused of murder. Time is of the essence.
The story is tense and immersive and also delves into the emotions of both Bertie and Pippa as their wedding date approaches. Underpinning it all is a fantastic faith thread. With themes of loyalty, philanthropy, self reflection and forgiveness, this is a must read.
It is always fun to see what is happening at the charity run by Pippa as well as behind-the-scenes of the investigations by the Haverly team and the changing relationships between the nobility and the constabulary.
Top notch writing and a great plot make this a worthy read. I cannot wait for the next installment.

It’s the final installment of Bertie and Philippa’s story. I was so excited to read this one and was not disappointed. If you haven’t read the previous books, I recommend reading those first. In this story Bertie and Philippa are pretending to be betrothed, although Bertie is trying to make it not be pretend. They also are investigating a murder. I really loved this story! I liked seeing Bertie and Philippa get closer and determine how they truly feel about each other. There is a murder in this story and one of Bertie’s friends is accused. I did figure out who the murderer was right off but that didn’t take anything away from the story. And I did second guess myself at one point haha. I really enjoyed watching them solve the mystery. I also loved seeing characters from the previous books and series again. I love that we get to attend Juliet and Daniel’s wedding. Great Christian content throughout. I listened to the audiobook, which unfortunately was very difficult, I was not a fan of the narrator. Overall, great story and I recommend!

After waiting nearly a year this third installment in the Of Cloaks and Daggers series is finally here and I must say that I was quite impressed with how this story played out. We are reubited with our beloved characters Bertrand and Philippa who always know how to have a great adventure. However, not all adventures are a grand old time as Bertie's friend Rhynwick becomes a person of interest in a m'rder investigation that he absolutely had no part of. It is up to Bertie to clear his good friends name before it is to late.

Overall I have been following this series for quite a while and I am quite impressed. Erica has managed to entertain us with characters who are not afraid to get their hands dirty and providing us with plot lines that will havd us reeling in suspense.

An Accusing at the Old Bailey wraps up the Of Cloaks and Daggers series with romance, mystery, and suspense! This writes has been an excellent continuation of The Haverly Universe, where we see Philippa and Bertie get their happily ever after while working as agents for the Crown, facing intrigue and mayhem together! This third and final installment of the series involves a fake engagement trope with good doses of he-falls-first that made me love seeing these two finally end up together in the final book of the series! The compelling mystery and themes of faith and redemption make this story so much more than a romance, and a worthwhile read to finish up the 3 book series. I highly recommend reading the series from the beginning, and enjoying the slow burn romance of Bertie and Philippa with plenty of suspense along the way!

Vetsch will wring your heart out with this series conclusion! I did not expect to cry, but the first half of the big reveal had me in tears- I didn't even realize there was more adventure and drama to come! The energy in the book is palpable, tension is strumming, and I beg of you, please read books 1 & 2 before diving into this one! It can stand alone, but the drama, references, and looks all mean so much more when you know the characters' history and connections.

An Accusing at the Old Bailey is an action packed, Christian historical romance and murder mystery. Readers learn Bertie's new assignment and peek inside both Bertie and Philippa's heads regarding their "engagement". Philippa struggles with wanting to be *actually*  engaged, but knowing it is all a ruse. She hesitates and doubts, effectively silencing herself for fear of pushing Bertie and his friendship away. Meanwhile, Bertie is all too happy playing engaged because he wants it to be real! He, too, is too afraid to ruin the friendship by revealing his real feelings.

The action picks up when a man dies: Bertie brings Philippa into his investigation to free an innocent man from police custody. The romance and humor match the drama almost step for step, keeping the tone from dragging or taking too dark a turn (until the end! Check trigger warning below if you are sensitive to specific topics). The bald twins? Hilarious! And oh, Ms. Melisande, the MVP of the entire series for giving Bertie a good, old-fashioned "man up!" conversation   Thank you, from all of us readers!
Readers get a front row seat to the murder trial and feel like we're part of history, holding our breath for the verdict! What a crazy series of events... and that was just the first big reveal! After that plot line is resolved, Bertie resolves the scientific research contest and ohhhhh it's a doozy! "... I will never speak to you again.... I will come for you..." I thought we were done with the tissuesssss.

Is the series truly over? I would love one more book of adventures and pure joy, and I can't wait to see what Vetsch comes up with next!

Tropes: Fake relationship/engagement, poor communication, murder mystery, amateur sleuth, wrongfully accused, ticking clock, big reveal, shocking twist, HEA
Spice: 1/5
Gore: 1/5
Language: 1/5
Triggers: The twist is vile sin even unbelievers condemn. Scroll all the way down for the spoiler.

Thank you to Kregel Publications and NetGalley for this ARC!

I was excited to have the opportunity to join the Launch Team of this book. I was on the Launch team for, Children of the Shadows (Thorndike & Swann Series) & A Scheming in Parliament (Of Cloaks & Daggers series - This series) You really need to read this series in order, as they follow on from each other, which is the sort of series that I prefer.
If you are interested, the series in order are:-
Serendipity & Secrets
Thondike & Swann Regency Mysteries
Of Cloaks & Daggers (This series)

It was lovely that we saw the main Characters back in this.
Daniel & Juliette,
Marcus (Duke of Haverly) & Charlotte (Duchess of Haverly)
Aunt Dolly
Philippa (Pippa)
Bertie.
I’m sure there were others, but they are the main ones I can think of.

This book continues Bertie & Phillipa’s story, which started in the last book. They are still pretending to be engaged, but Bertie is trying to make it a real engagement! Although Philippa & Bertie have their issues, Philippa continues to help Bertie as an Agent. I love Bertie in this, He is very good as an Agent, and he really does care about others.
There is a murder that takes place in this book, and the accused is a friend of Bertie’s. There are so many people that are involved in this case.
This book has spies, mystery and romance. Also there are some really good nuggets of faith too. The work that Philippa & Aunt Dolly are doing at Elios school, continues to grow. It was lovely to see some of the girls, now in employment, and some heading that way. Philippa also has plans to expand what they do there.

I was also interested to read about the justice system at that period.
I loved how comfortable Bertie was in the Duke’s home (Marcus.) - They have a great friendship.
“Bertie lounged on the settee, his legs stretched out, his boots crossed at the ankles.”
Aunt Dolly was full of Godly wisdom in this book too.

A few more quotes that I thought were good
"To teach them that they are loved by God, with a pure love that has no end
”“Your character is a work in progress, as is the character of everyone who is striving to become more Christlike”

I loved the epilogue. So Romantic. I’m so sad that this series is over. I’m really hoping there is going to be more from the “Haverly Universe.”
There is a lot more I could say about this book, but don't want to give away any spoilers.
Thank you to the Author and Netgalley for allowing me to read this. This review is all in my own words.

“What I want to tell you is that I love you with all my heart. There will never be another woman for me. You are it.”

This fantastic fake betrothal story has spies, mystery, faith, and romance. I was so excited to find out what was next for Bertie and Phillipa and I was not disappointed. (This is book 3 in their series.) I loved the suspense and twists and especially the development of Bertie and Phillipa’s relationship.

Bertie! I loved him from the very first time he appeared in “The Debutant’s Code” and I love him more now. He is intelligent and has charm and charisma in spades. I love his devotion to the agency and his genuine care of others. He is a teddy bear when it comes to his friends and family. I loved how he involved Phillipa in his investigation, that he depended on her, and trusted her completely. I loved his determination to win her heart. Phillipa is caring, determined, and perceptive. I loved seeing the glimpse of her school. Her battle of her feelings and everyone’s complete acceptance of her “betrothal” was intense. I loved that she wasn’t afraid to tell Bertie what she thought. I loved her intuition and how she was able to help the investigation. I loved that Bertie supported her completely regarding her future, school, and finances and that he stood up for her and accepted her past. The way their relationship blossomed was beautiful. I loved the innocent touches, glances, and tender moments they shared. The epilogue! It was perfectly tender and swoony.

A few more quotes:
“You are not beyond happiness. You are not beyond feeling. And it is past time that you put away that form of martyrdom and reach for some happiness for yourself.”

“Not everything is born of necessity. Some things are done from affection and desire.”

💕 As she sheltered in his arms, she realized she finally had the one thing she had longed for most. A safe home for her heart. 💕

Trigger warning: brief mention of s*xual assault (by a parent) by secondary character

"She had the unreal feeling that in spite of their well-laid plans, she would wake up one morning to find herself married to Sir Bertrand Thorndike."

Their engagement began with a spontaneous kiss and a ruse, a way for a trustworthy friend and comrade in the Agency to protect her from a greedy cousin's intentions to contest her vast fortune, inherited from a father who had never claimed the role until his deathbed. If she didn't know him so well, Philippa Cashel would suspect that Bertie was dragging his feet about the entire affair. It had already gone too far, family and friends were making plans, giving gifts and offering congratulations.

Lord Bertrand Thorndike had no intention of breaking his fake engagement to Phillippa Cashel, he just had to convince his betrothed that she felt the same way. The fact that he had been given a new assignment by the Duke of Haverly fed into his plans to slow walk their break-up and find the courage to tell Philippa how he really felt. He never imagined that a contest amongst international scientists would be interrupted by a murder and that the perpetrator would cast one of his friends as the villain.

Coupling a daring adventure, a by-product of solving a high profile murder with ripple effects, with a romance that just needed a firm nudge of encouragement, and you have a satisfying story that took just a bit of time to develop, but when it did, I can scarcely wait to go back and read it again!

This is a wonderful story! Bertie and Philippa have formed a fake engagement that left me wondering how this friends to more romance would end. Philippa carries the burdens and mistakes of her past with her, convincing her that she is unworthy of a lifelong love. Yet the two have once again joined forces to serve the British Crown in an investigation that involves murder, espionage and danger to the brave couple. The historical detail provides a setting that will capture the reader's imagination, quickly pulling them into the story. The plot is multi-layered and masterfully paced.

The characters are delightful. I loved Bertie's respectful regard of Philppa and her work to provide young and widowed women a safe place to learn a skill and find a respectable way to provide for their families. And their chemistry is tangible and sweet. While this can be read as a standalone, their character arcs and romance is skillfully developed throughout the series.

Full disclosure- I had not read the other books in the series, yet it had been on my radar for quite awhile. I was encouraged to apply for the launch team for this release. I am so glad I accepted. Erica Vetsch is another author being added to my automatic reading list.

Definitely an on the edge of your seat, have to finish book. I have read the other two in the trilogy and have enjoyed all 3. I do want to say that there are mature themes in this book and the way the story played out was a little off to me. I felt like it could have ended differently and made more sense. The ending to Phillipa and Berntrand's story was so romantic and beautiful. I loved how the author finished their story.

Spoiler: It would have made more sense that the murder of Mr. Stone and the bombing of the scientistd had been more connected. And I did not agree with the author's decision to excuse Estelle's murder of her father by sending her to the US. Murder is inexcusable, no matter the reason. I wish Philippa and Berntrand could have helped the Stone family in a better and more meaningful way, giving Estelle the opportunity to heal at Eleos.

I will recommend the first book to my audience, but cannot recommend the last two, just becausd of the mature content they contain. I still enjoyed them, but will make clear when i recommend the first that the other two do contain mature content.

I gave this book my best shot, but after reading 25% of it and still not feeling at all interested in the story, I decided to DNF it. There were multiple factors that kept me from being able to enjoy this story, with the most prominent one being the fact I haven’t read the first two books in this series. So that aspect was very much my fault, but there have been times when I’ve been able to jump into a series before and still enjoy it. This was just not one of those times.

This was my first book by Erica Vetsch, and I really don’t want to judge her other books off of my experience with this one, but it’s also going to be a bit hard not to. The writing just didn’t pull me in like I wanted it to, and the storyline felt very bland to me. I may still give her books a shot in the future—we’ll just have to see 🤷🏻‍♀️

I enjoyed the final book in the Of Cloaks and Daggers series, but I admit I’m sad to say goodbye to Bertie and Pippa. I have enjoyed these two characters and their journey together so much, I don’t want it to end. However, I was very satisfied with how they ended. Their HEA put a smile on my face for sure. I also enjoyed seeing more of Rhynwick Davies in this novel. The interactions Bertie had with him made me curious to see more of his character. I don’t know if Vetsch has more planned for him, but I would totally read a series with him as a main character. As far as the mystery goes, it was not my favorite of the series. I felt that the first two books in the series were a bit stronger and more fleshed out in the plot department. However, I absolutely loved the first two books, so it’s certainly not an insult to say that I liked them better. An Accusing at the Old Bailey was still a strong four stars for me.

I really enjoyed this Christian historical fiction. Set in regency times it had mystery and suspense intertwined with romance. This is the end of a saga series and I liked it the best of them all. The first two books set up the relationship for our MCs, whereas this book touches a bit more on the romance as they are in a fake engagement. Now, I did get a bit upset and frustrated with our MCs because a few simple words from each of them could have changed the tone of everything. However, the mystery and suspense of this book was great. I loved the historical aspects with the judicial system and science and poisons and it all. Those aspects were very intriguing to me, and there were twists and turns that I did not expect, and some that I did. It was a great ending to this series. The romance is just kisses, intimacy level one.

Content Notes (may include spoilers):
Former Prostitution, Drugs, Murder, Miscarriages, Poison, Child Sexual Abuse

‘An Accusing at the Old Bailey’ was such a satisfying continuation of the Of Cloaks & Daggers series. It’s a treat to be able to read these books back-to-back since I only recently discovered the series, because I’m not sure I would have had the patience to wait for this one!

The romance pulled me forward in this installment, while the fresh mystery provided plenty of intrigue and suspense of its own. And after following Bertie and Philippa through the first two books, it was so satisfying to finally see them come together.

Now I just need to work my way through Erica Vetsch’s backlog so I can catch up on the backstories of all the other beloved characters I’ve encountered along the way!

Special thanks to Kregel Publications and NetGalley for providing an advance review copy. I received this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

This book was an absolutely fabulous finale to a series that just won't quit. (Seriously...it won't....I'm pretty sure that the ending of this one is the launch of a new related series about Rhynwick, and I can't WAIT.)

Bertie and Philippa started the series as a much more experienced and mature members of the team, so it stands to reason that they deal with a high level of angst and difficulty along their journey together. There are some pretty serious issues addressed in this novel - I won't spoil them for you, but consider yourself warned. I loved it, though, because it added a dose of reality that made the story that much more immersive. You will get your hard-fought, satisfying ending, as always with any novel that Erica Vetsch publishes. She always delivers, and this story is no exception!

Pippa and Bertie’s story has come to an end, and I am so sad. I need more of their story! I loved them together. Pippa and Bertie were definitely not perfect, but I love how they didn’t let their past mistakes ruin God’s plan for them.

An Accusing at the Old Bailey follows Bertie and Pippa as they try to clear their friend’s name. Rhynwick was accused of murder and had to learn to trust that God was in control of the situation.

I love that Erica doesn’t shy away from the evils of this world. Her characters are flawed sinners who don’t suddenly become perfect when they repent. She shows their struggles, but she also shows how they triumph over them by placing their faith and trust in Jesus.

I’m excited for what Erica has next for us, and I hope that we get to see Bertie and Pippa in other books.

A murder, a laboratory searched and destroyed, an office in Bristol broken into, a fake engagement. All the things that make a good read in my opinion.
All of this can be found in Erica Vetsch's new book An Accusing at the Old Bailey, the last book in her Of Cloaks and Daggers series.
Seriously intense and fascinating with the inclusion of science, scientific research, and science inventions during the Regency time. And lest we forget, Sir Bertrand is back with the lovely and intelligent Phillipa Cashel. Will they find the clues they need to solve the mystery? Will Sir Bertrand convince Miss Cashel that his heart is true and hers? To quote Sir Bertrand:
“Courage. We’ll see our way through this situation yet. After all, every storm eventually runs out of rain.”
Definitely worth reading and finding out!

I received a complementary copy of this book, the thoughts and opinions are my own and a positive review is not a requirement.

I was so excited to see how this story plays out, I really liked the first two books in the series. Bertie is one of my favorite lead male characters, and Pippa has been fun to get to know as well.

I love a good fake engagement story and this one does not disappoint! It’s so fun to read a hasty declaration that is meant to fool people but then get to watch the love story unfold and play out.

The ongoing spy storyline in this book was very interesting. Some of it I could decipher and figure out and some of it had me guessing. I will be recommending this book to everyone!

Wow, this series has been just amazing! I was lucky enough to receive an early copy in the mail. There are so many exciting things going on, that you can't possibly be bored. This is the third book in the trilogy, so some things we've been waiting for finally happened! One thing I love about Erica Vetsch is that she introduces me to a lot of new vocabulary. I read a lot of Regency and Victorian era books, but she uses a lot of language from that time that I've never heard of before. I like looking up what these words mean, or what things looked like back then. She has clearly done her research for these books. These books have it all - romance, wit, mystery, betrayal, humor, friendship, and service to others in need. I highly recommend Erica Vetsch's books.

What a conclusion to Bertie and Philippa's story! It took a long time for Philippa to see herself worthy of such tender, honorable, protective, and self-sacrificing love that Bertie offered her. Bertie's beautiful character shined in this book and he allowed others to see more of himself than just the dapper, confident aristocrat he portrayed. His insecurities, doubts, and faith made him vulnerable and so very real. The murder mystery was intriguing and I loved following the Bow Street investigators and Bertie and Philippa as they untangled the complicated knots of the case. The subplot of Bertie ferreting out a spy in their midst was also fascinating to follow. There were definite surprises in the plot and I really enjoyed the twists and turns. Catching up with Daniel and Juliette, as well as Juliette's parents, was the icing on the cake.

If you enjoy Regency mystery and romance, you will totally enjoy this book. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Kregel Publication via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Wonderful conclusion to a great series. We met Philippa way back in The Gentleman Spy - her HEA has been a long time coming. She got more than a loving husband; she got healing and redemption. Bertie and Philippa are so well-matched - brilliant, witty, principled, and humble.
The Haverly universe is a lovely place. Spending time with old friends like Marcus and Charlotte, Aunt Dolly, and even the Dowager Duchess was lovely.
One of my favorite things about Erica Vetsch's books is falling in love with her characters through the love interest's words. Well done!

Excellent!! The long awaited third book in the series is so satisfying, a perfect ending to the series! Told with a perfect blend of humor, mystery and romance. The reader is taken on a delightful adventure and the historical details make you feel like you are right there with them. Bertie and Philippa have a fake engagement that Bertie hopes to make real. Join them as they try to solve their most interesting and dangerous case yet, and as they figure out what is their heart's desire. You don't want to miss it!

Thank you to the author and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. I am eagerly awaiting my preordered copy to go on my keeper shelf with the rest of the series.

I enjoyed this final book of the series. It tied in nicely. I loved how the author kept us in suspense. And the conclusion, wasn’t an easy “poof and all is well” kind of conclusion. I liked that I had to work for the answer and didn’t guess the ending immediately!
It’s a clean Christian suspense though it does reference things that are adult.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book though all opinions are my own.

Such a satisfying conclusion to the Of Cloaks and Daggers trilogy by Erica Vetsch! This book grabbed my attention from the start and kept me guessing til the end. I love a good mystery and this book had so much more including family and friends planning a wedding for a fake engagement, a friend of spies to the crown being arrested for murder and said spies racing to find the real culprit. It was fast paced and carried themes of faith and redemption. I would highly recommend this book.
