Saurellian Federation - Price of Freedom By Joanna Wylde Book II of the Saurellian Federation series A man who refuses to accept captivity. A woman who has lost hope... When Bethany rescues one of her father's slaves from death, she has no idea she's sealing her own fate. All she knows is that Jess is the most attractive man she's ever met, and the first who has been kind during her difficult life. After his brush with death, Jess has decided to break free. He's tired of working in the mines, tired of living in fear. And he's tired of living without a woman. He'll do whatever it takes to escape... Including kidnapping Bethany.
3.5 stars. The book is good but very sad, with misunderstandings galore. She says one thing, he hears another. And the life in the mines went on for so long. I think the author could have cut a few of the breakfast/dinner comings and goings. But overall, I enjoyed the book and plan on reading the next in the series.
3.5 stars. I have to say I have been excited to read this book after reading the Price of Pleasure. I couldn't wait to read more about Jess. The story leads off from the Price of Pleasure and we find out how Jess survived. Jess was sold to the mines to Pilgrims. He had to work in unspeakable conditions for many grueling hours. One day, he almost dies in the mines and finally decides enough is enough. Jess, along with Bragan (the slave's doctor) and Logan (another slave working in the mines), decide to revolt against the Pilgrims. After the revolt, Jess decides to take a female Pilgrim, Bethany, and claim her as his own. They soon start to fall in love with each other but Jess's plot for revenge keeps hindering their relationship. I was happy to read that Jess was able to become free at last and found Bethany. I felt bad for her at first because Jess kind of treated her like a slave. However, as the story grew, I understood the reason Jess treated Bethany like that was because he wanted to protect her and he was afraid of losing the last person he had. However, I did feel towards the end of the book, the story had gotten very slow. I was disappointed in the ending because it didn't tell us what was going to happen to Jess and Bethany. It left it opened ended, and Jess never finds out what happened to Calla. I'm annoyed with that because I'm not even sure if Jess and Bethany are within the next books of the series. I would have felt more settled if we do get to find out what happens later to them but in the synopsizes of the other books in the series have totally new characters. I hate when there is no conclusion to the story, especially if there isn't another book about them. I don't know, I guess I'm just very disappointed because I had high hopes for this book. I guess I just have to read the others to see what happens next.
This book had a really good plot, but at times it dragged. Otherwise, I would've given it 4 stars. Another reviewer complained about Part 1 of the book (The Mine) being too long, and I disagree. That was the best part of the book (and funny when the H pretended to be an invalid). Part 2 was interesting with the escape of the slaves. It was Part 3 that seemed kind of pointless. The HEA could've been a little better, too.
such a fabulous fantasy story jess and bethany he was a slave in the mines she a pilgrim abused by her father jess is planning an excape with logan and takes beth with him she has no clue how to survive from the pilgrims but she does he truly loves her but wants rfevenge fofr his sisters death beth is pregnant and they are on a spaceship going thru space stations can't explain whole story it just has to be read and you will love the fantasy of it all.....
H is a slave. h is member of the society that owns the slaves, but is an outcast and is forced to work in kitchens and as nurse to slaves. H gets wounded and h nurses him. They have sex right before the slave revolt. I just couldn't get into it - to bored and didn't feel like there was much of a relationship b/t the H and h.
Bethany helps out one of her father's slaves Jess who she is attracted too. Jess wants something else out of life than to be a slave the rest of his life. So he sets about making that happen by escaping and taking the girl he wants with him. I like this series and look forward to reading the rest.
Didn't like this one as well as the first in the series. I was so tired of the whole lack-of-trust issue by the end. A little bit of it was okay, but it went on way too long.
The story was okay. There were too many repetitions about the mining and lack of trust with no justification. I had to make myself finish reading it because I was getting bored with the story.
