The second installment of the Pony Jumpers series is written in the voice of Katy, the friend of the narrator of the first book. It's fascinating to see the same characters and horses the reader experienced in the original installment through the eyes of such a different personality. In contrast to the humble and enthusiastic AJ, Katy is prickly, possessive, opinionated, and a perfectionist. That's what makes her such an interesting and ultimately an attractive character in my eyes. (Katy's also a fabulous, natural, and confident rider). I loved the fact that the troubled Katy isn't always reasonable in her expectations of herself and others. She's imperfect but her passionate nature makes the reader cheer her on nonetheless.

Kate Lattey is really on a roll! She has yet to write a bad book. I'm loving this new Pony Jumpers series - while they're quicker reads than her others, they're no less awesome. She knows her horses, how to create likeable, well-developed characters, and how to craft interesting and plausible plots - and all of these are present in this. I loved getting to know Kate better, and seeing other familiar characters. Looking forward to the 3rd in the series!

DNF

Against my better judgment, I thought I'd continue this series. I didn't even make it past the Author's Note before the story began.

In the Note, Lattey states that you need to read two books in her other series first, because this book contains characters and spoilers from those two books.

Then why not make Double Clear part of that series, and not this series? Just to promote the previous series?

Fuck this shit. No stars.

The second book in this series, Double Clear introduces you to Katy as the protagonist, this time. Katy lives and breathes horses and riding. Along with her mum, they buy, retrain and sell horses.

Katy is currently leasing Molly, a beautiful bay mare that proved to be too much of a handful for her owner. Although Katy knows that Steph is an accomplished rider, she has been happily riding and training Molly for three years, having taken her on at the age of 12.
