What makes The Secret Keeper stand out, is the very concept behind the actual story of the Secret Keeper herself. Something fresh and never done before, and let's face it, that is always worth pursuing when we are talking about the young adult genre where so many books feel like they are reincarnated versions of a book you're sure you've read before.

Carling takes us into a small town very few have probably ever heard of, let alone passed through and makes the mundane anything but boring.

Engaging characters and a storyline every bit believable because of the very nature of the gender and ages of the characters, she mixes it up and throws in a paranormal element that is every bit as entertaining and it was creepy to imagine and think about.

A clean read that still manages to have a sweet romance, great friendships, and a creepy mystery that make this hard to put down until the very end. A fast paced plot and quick moving adventure that is every bit as dark as it is creepy will keep you on your toes and make this book worth your time and something that you should put on your to read list for this summer.

I received The Secret Keeper in return for an honest review from the author. It starts the night of the senior prom Winter and her best friend Ally are planning on having an amazing night with their dates. However not long after arriving at the prom Ally get’s into a fight with her on again off again boyfriend Hayden calling it quits when he decides he doesn’t want to attend to same college. Forcing Winter to take Ally home missing the prom with her date Liam. After going to all the trouble feeling like he was blown off Liam sends her a text he later regrets. After arriving home from the prom early after taking care of her best friend her parents talk her into stopping by one of the parties. At the party Winter has a run in with Hayde who’s sorry for ruining her prom and after a sincere apology she forgives him but in her drunken state she ends up kissing Hayden.

The following morning Winter wakes up to find she’s in a shack away from the party with her parents pounding on the door. As if being grounded isn’t bad enough it’s the fact that Hayden is determined to have Winter tell Ally and Liam the truth which will ruin her relationship with them both but leave her open for himself to swoop in. Dreading what will happen when her best friend and boyfriend learn the truth she takes a run to clear her head but encounters a girl who happens to have had her own secret. She solved her problem by visiting the Secret Keeper who fixed her problem. Without any other choices Winter visits the Secret Keeper agreeing to the conditions and having reality changed so that her secret never happened. Only suddenly everything that can does go wrong. Will she be able to fix it before it’s too late? What’s the real story behind the secret keeper? Will Liam find out her secret and if so how will he react?

I like Winter she’s a great character she cared enough for her best friend and new boyfriend that she was willing to change reality to spare them the pain. It’s refreshing to see a character who cares about others over her own feelings. I liked Ally we didn’t see a whole lot of her but I like how things worked out for her. I loved the Liam stuck by Winter with everything that was happening, even if everyone else though she was dealing with emotional stuff.

I’ve been looking forward to reading The Secret Keeper the idea that you can tell a secret to the secret keeper and she will create an alternate reality so it never happened is interesting. I found the story to be a captivating suspense filled romance that kept me on the edge of my seat and was hard to put down. I really enjoyed the characters they are easy to connect with I couldn’t help getting invested in Winter’s and Liam’s story since we have both points of view which I like. This isn’t my first book by the author so I have an expectation for her story telling and The Seeker Keeper doesn’t disappoint it’s a beautifully written intricate story. I actually finished the book in just a few short hours and can’t wait to read the next on to see what will happen with Winter and Liam after the teaser at the end of the book. I highly recommend that if you like paranormal romance you check it out.

OMG!!! This is a fantastic story. One that is magical and leaves you hanging by the edge of the page.
I received an ARC from the author - ANGELA CARLING-in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey's very honest opinion of her book- " THE SECRET KEEPER".
I haven't read many of Ms. Carling's books- but those that I have read are extremely well written. She takes her pen to paper an creates pure magic and captures the reader right of the bat. I was asked to read and review this exciting book. It was a pleasure and an honor to do so.
In this story we fin ourselves with a young teenage girl by the name of Winter who has a terrible secret that she wants to go away. It seems that she cheated n her boyfriend and best-friend with her best-friends boyfriend. Now she wants that secret to go away.
So she go to the secret keeper house to make it go away. The only problem is that it comes with conditions. And she will have to agree to all of them. Winter agrees and the keeper takes her secret from her. This is the start of a bunch of problems for her. Winter spends the night with her best friend but has to run home to get some stuff she forgot/ Her friends are throwing her a surprise birthday - even though she knows about it -she is gonna act surprised. Winter decides that she needs to run home to get some clothes she forgot. When she gets to the house- she finds her parents dead and her principal had killed them. He threatens her- tells her that she can't tell anyone or else he will kill her. ( Now this is the secret that the keeper told her she could not speak of to any one). She runs next door to tells them what she saw but when she goes to say the name - no name comes out.
The keeper also told her that she could not come to her again. But she does- what is the price she will pay and what is it that ask for??
What happens that makes Winter go to the Secret Keeper one last time??
This is a fantastic and terrific story.

Book Review & Giveaway: Award-winning author Angela Carling has a wonderful way of writing entertaining stories that deal with important issues without banging you over the head with them. Her YA novels often have a paranormal element yet they’re grounded in real life. When she asked me to take a look at her new novel, The Secret Keeper, I was delighted because I know by now that she’s an excellent storyteller. Our secrets do literally make us sick, something that every therapist knows only too well. And that is what’s at the heart of this suspenseful novel. The Secret Keeper is also a paranormal romance for all you romantics out there. I’m delighted we’ve got an autographed giveaway for this one at http://popcornreads.com/?p=8528.

*I received a free copy from the author for an honest review*

I was literally screaming at the protagonist, Winter while I was reading the book. Oh it's not what you are thinking. It was in a good way and my screaming was because I was easily carried away by the situations arising in the tale.

Let me start at the beginning.
When I started the book, I didn't have any expectation since this is a first time author for me. The only thought I had was that the blurb sounded interesting and different. I haven't seen any about Secret Keepers and their ilk. So I was suitably intrigued and the book cover too adds a sense of mystery to the story.

The start was the usual stuff, introducing us to Winter and her life and all the important people and events are easily identified in the first few pages. A seemingly innocent teenage mistake is taken and twisted into a new type of paranormal read by the author and I have to say "Kudos" to that. If it wasn't for Winter's mistake the whole book wouldn't have been. It's the base for Winter meeting the Secret Keeper and the incidents which take place thereafter.

The story starts to get intense after Winter meets the Secret Keeper and it kept me on my toes till the end, making me wonder what would happen next during each scene. I went through the whole gamut of human emotions from guilt to happiness to horror to sorrow through the heroine. Not even Liam with his mature understanding and support at the end garnered that much liking from me as much as Winter did. She is a finely crafted character who easily had me grasped in her feelings and thoughts. No one else stood out much among the side characters except for Mr. Shoop with his devious mind and genial veneer.

The story was steady paced at the start and slowly ramped up to a pitch with the devastating murders and stayed that way till the end. The story was told in Winter's and Liam's POV. I generally love reading both POVs since that helps in knowing what everyone is upto. But it was a bit confusing for me in this book since it wasn't alternating. I had to look at the name every time a chapter started to know whose turn it was. The premise of the book is unique and kept me turning the pages. The book hasn't even started on the character of the Secret Keeper and I am sure there's so much more to know about her and her powers and all the questions associated with it.

The ending was a kind of a cliffhanger and I am sure the next book would make up for it easily. I felt kind of sad for Winter at the end. But then that's the way the book is shaped. So overall, the ending was okay.

If I had a chance to grab the sequel's copy right now, I would. And if you guys like to read different types of paranormal-ish books without the usual entities associated with them, I would recommend this unique tale.

My one line review : A tale of secrets and the mysterious Secret Keeper keeps you glued to the pages.

My rating : 4/5

My reread factor : 3.5/5

Have you ever done something you wanted to undo? Meet Winter Merrilla a teenager who is forced to make a deal with the Secret Keeper, a woman that can make an action disappear, in order to make her mistake vanish.
But her deal with this woman ends up in total disaster and changes her life as she knew it and even puts Liam, her boyfriend, in danger,
I'm going to start this review by telling you that you need to overlook the sinopsys, it really doesn't give the whole feel of this book and I admit that that's impossible to do.
I kept my little "book summary" short in order not to spoil anything since the little details are all that matter in the end!
The characthers in this book are so well developed that you feel dragged into the story, as you were living it. When someone screams you'll want to scream, when someone laughs you'll want to laugh and everything from true happiness to shear horror, that's the feelings span of this book and you'll love it.
This will change your way of seeing your life and the way that you live because it will make you question yourself on how life would be if you could change reality in order to erase your mistakes and maybe even teach you a lesson about telling the truth and owning up to your mistakes.
Overall this is a very complete book since it takes care of so many situations in real life (with a little speacial touch) and will show how to deal with some aspects of your own life while your reading a really good book and we all know that's amazing to learn while reading a good book because it's fun!
If you like paranormal, love stories, a little science fiction and even suspense this book is for you!

Winter recently lost her brother to a tragic accident since then her parents have encouraged her to live her life to the fullest. With that thought in mind she eagerly gets ready for her senior prom. Her best friend Ally comes by to help and wait for their date to arrive. Prom turned out totally different than either one expected. Winter makes a mistake that comes back to haunt her and all she wants is for this secret to go away. When a woman tells her about someone who could make her secret disappear Winter is skeptical but has nothing left to lose. The terms of the contract she made meant nothing to Winter at the time she made the deal but when tragedy strikes and is bound by the contract not to reveal the secret it slowly eats away at her. Now not only is her sanity in danger but so is her life. At the cost of losing everything and everyone she ever loved will she go back to the Secret Keeper for one final bargain? A great tale that will leave you speechless and desperately wanting more! Can’t wait for the next part of this series its sure to be one hell of a ride.

I was totally struck and caught off guard by this unique and original book. Written well, although frustrating. It was captivating and kept you wondering what would be next. Though the web of lies could easily have been fixed by being honest, but then there would not be a story let alone a series. Very well done!

Winter has the best friend you could ask for. Ally is always there for her. Winter makes a terrible mistake and is pressured to admit it and hurt those she loves. She desperately seeks out the Secret Keeper for help. But there are rules, caveats. Winter walks away knowing her next secret she will never be able to tell.

Little did she know the next secret would be so life altering that it would destroy her world. And she can’t even say one word. Winter spirals and then is confronted over and over again with the magnitude of the secret she’s incapable of telling…a secret that could cost her her own life, and the lives of everyone she loves.

Herber is a small town where not much happens. That also means it can be a hotbed for the rumor mill, no matter how much or little truth there is to the gossip.

And that is exactly what Winter is trying to avoid after realizing the ramifications of her great big giant mistake. In honesty, I think if she had actually fessed up to those she needed to, as she was being pressured to do by someone else, it wouldn’t have been as bad as what she thought it would be…because, well, it wasn’t that bad.

Winter is convinced she only has two options: be forced to reveal her secret, or have the Secret Keeper erase it like it never happened. She thinks she can handle the terms of the agreement with the Secret Keeper, who lives in a dilapidated house on the worst street in town. The Secret Keeper has distinguishable qualities that are definitely hair-raising.

During Winter’s dealings with the Secret Keeper, I kept thinking about Ariel’s dealings with Ursula in The Little Mermaid. We all know you don’t make a deal with the devil, but when you think you have no other choice…

The plot moves on from there, and spirals out of control. If Winter thought her first secret was bad, her second one – the one she can’t tell anyone – is earth-shattering. Something that could definitely drive a person to insanity, especially not being able to tell anyone. Winter does her best to give all the signs she can to help others figure out her secret.

I was impressed with Winter’s attempts to point everyone she can in the direction of the one person central to her secret, given all the things happening. I don’t think I could have done as well if I were in her position. The entire premise of the book is based on secrets, and unfortunately Winter learns someone else’s secrets. Terrible secrets that can cost lives.

The ending is a slight cliffhanger, leaving readers open to ask many questions about what will come next as Winter moves forward in life. It was not quite what I was expecting, and definitely a turn upside down for Winter. Overall, this was a quick very quick read that’s a nice change. It opens the door for readers to question their own secrets.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. You can check out the original review on Genuine Jenn

The Secret Keeper is a YA novel. It is very clean so I would recommend it for younger teens also. It does touch on death by murder but it isn't graphic. This is a great novel with a story showing how desperate one can be to remove a secret but the consequences of secrets have on everyone especially the burden you hold when you have secrets. I couldn't even imagine having a horrible secret that I need to tell but not be able to and have to deal all alone with it. The story hooks you in from the beginning and has many twists and turns keeping you hooked.

I didn't want to put this book down and had a really hard time when I did have too. I can't wait to read book #2. I just loved the two main characters Winter and Liam. Team Liam all the way! I really disliked Hayden and wasn't really a huge fan of Ally. I found the style of writing was very easy to follow along. The chapters were tiny and the story was told from Winter and Liam's POV. The new chapter would say whose POV it is. The whole concept of a mystery women who can rid you of your secrets was what really drew me in when I read the book synopsis. The secret keeper is very mysterious.

I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars and look forward to reading more from Angela Carling!

This book was so much better than I expected. I was hooked from the first page until the last, as it shows sitting here doing a review so early in the morning! The main characters were well narrated, and it felt like I was part of the story. I absolutely loved the twist in the story and was shocked. I couldn't put the book down as I just wanted to know what was going to happen. I can't wait for the next book to come out. Thanks for the opportunity given to read this book. I thoroughly recommend this book to all.

PS I do apologise for the delay in writing the review, but as I let the author know, this appeared in my junk box. If anyone knows the link to the giveaway, can they please let me know.

A well done book. The Secret Keeper gives an intriguing hypothetical: what is better, to erase the secret and alter the past, or to be honest in the present and take what comes? Maybe the author didn't intend to teach this 'lesson' but it made me think about how important honesty and owning up to mistakes is!

A super sweet romance with a hint of paranormal. My drawbacks were that the villain is completely two-dimensional, and also the set up of the story seems really rushed, almost jumpy. Nevertheless, I was kept guessing to the end. Looks like a promising start to the series.

This book kept me guessing and turning pages. I loved how I kept being surprised. It is full of mystery, magic, suspense and some light romance. I loved how at first I thought, this is fun. Then it turned into, I didn't expect that. Then to, are you kidding me! Then into, there is no way I am setting this down until I finish. Angela is an awesome job! I'm excited for the next one.

Very suspenseful and engaging story. Well written with likeable characters. Loved Liam! Great, clean romance. Overall the book had too much sorcery/dark magic for my tastes, though. I felt a little uncomfortable/creeped out by that.
