However, Nicole’s insecurities and his connection with her father made her hesitant about entering into a real relationship with Guy.

Unfortunately, Guy and Nicole’s relationship was nearly ruined because of the actions of someone, but he didn’t hesitate to swiftly clear up the situation. Thankfully, Guy and Nicole were able to get a chance to build the life that they both wanted and deserved.
I loved how Hope Ford made the characters come alive on the pages with amazing characters, the right amount of spice and an exciting storyline, which made me unable to take a break from the moment I started reading, until I finished. This story delivered on romance, intimacy and heartfelt vulnerability in a way that lingers long after the final page, so I recommend you grab your copy now and entertain yourself for a few hours.

Guy is a baseball hero who falls hard for Nicole, a daughter of a teammate. Because of the situation and she knows that he knows his way around women, she wants their romance to stay secret. It is a little hard for her to beliebe him genuinly, because of his repputation and she does not look like the type of woman he normally goes for, being on ther curvier side. I know this insecurities and they can really mess with you. But he is solid like a rock, not wantiing to hide their love and when she pulls back, he shows her his possesive and caring side, not letting her doubt from his side. She understands by holding back she denies herself the relationship and love she craves. She has to go all in to get it all and he is waiting with open arms. Like always with Hope Ford, such amazing characters, let me forget the world around me while reasing the story.

I wish this book was longer, Guy was a dream. Nicole is the daughter of a teammate and doesn't believe that a man like Guy will look at her twice because of his reputation, but getting to know Guy shows her a different man. Guy was so sweet. I just love this series.
I absolutely loved Guy & Nicole's story and not even just because we share a name 🤣. Actually, normally that is a turn off for me. Maybe I'm the weird one, but i think it is strange when characters have my name. Anyway, of course I loved Guy. He meers Nicole. Immediately knows he wants her and it doesn't take long for him to becomes obsessed with her. Plus he's a baseball player.. where do i sign up?! As for Nicole.. I LOVED HER! She is fiesty and strong and while she knows who she is, it doesn't stop the world from getting to her sometimes. Her doubts, hesitations, insecurities are real and external. Together, these two are a cozy fire, filled with love and sparks. All the stars!
Loved it and Guy and Nicole. The Brody's of Whiskey Run is a amazing series and this is a wonderful addition to the series, Guy sees Nicole in the bar. He falls instantly, He's a baseball Player and her dad's the pitcher and when he finds out he tries to get her father to help, Nicole has a lot of insecurities, and is trying to work though them, Such a wonderful story

This was a good fast paced spicy read. I absolutely loved the "off-limits" romance dynamic—there is so much tension when a baseball legend falls for his teammate's daughter. But what truly got me was FMC. It was incredibly refreshing to read a romance where the FMC doesn't have the "typical" physical appearance you see in most books.
Nicole’s insecurities hit so close to home for me. Her internal battle about looking different from the women he usually dates, and her deep-seated fear of never being skinny enough, was so painfully realistic. While reading, her denial definitely annoyed me at times, but then I had a moment of clarity and realized—wow, that's exactly me. Seeing those raw, complicated insecurities written out in words resonated with me on a deeply personal level.
Even though Nicole tries to protect her heart by demanding they keep their relationship a secret, Guy completely steps up. He doesn't want casual; he genuinely cares for her, looks at her like she's the only woman in the room, and handles her fears with so much patience.
If you love a quick, spicy romance with a hero who worships his curvy heroine, I highly recommend picking this up! This was my first time reading Hope Ford, but it definitely won't be my last—I can't wait to check out the rest of her books.
This is number 5 in the Brody’s of Whiskey Run and I loved it. Guy is the first baseman for the Jasper Bears and when he sees Nicole at a bar it’s instalove for him. But Nicole doesn’t believe that he could have feelings for her. She just thought she’d have a quick fling. And when Guy finds out that she’s the daughter of their new pitcher he does everything in his power to get her dad on board. This is a sweet and steamy read. Nicole has insecurities but Guy will get her to trust him if it kills him. It is an exceptional story and I loved it.
⚾❤️ She Expected a Fling, He Was Already Choosing Forever ❤️⚾ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars | 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3 Chili Peppers
Nicole could believe Guy Brody wanted her.
What she struggled to believe was that he could actually choose her. 🥹❤️
The Player I Can't Pick was such a fun, spicy, heartfelt little escape! Hope Ford packed so much into this novella with an age gap, a baseball legend, his teammate's daughter, a secret relationship, and a hero who falls HARD and has absolutely no interest in pretending otherwise.
Guy first notices Nicole at a bar while she's waiting for a dating-app match. When he overhears the guy talking about her in a way that immediately sets off every one of his protective instincts, Guy steps in.
And apparently that's all it takes because this man is SMITTEN. 😂⚾
They eventually discover one tiny complication.
Nicole's father is Guy's new teammate.
Oops. 😂
Nicole already knows Guy's reputation. He's thirteen years older, famous, experienced, and has spent plenty of time playing the field. She's also a curvy woman who looks nothing like the women she's seen him date before.
So while the attraction between them is impossible to deny, trusting that Guy could genuinely want something lasting with her is much harder.
Nicole tries to protect herself by keeping their relationship secret and contained.
Guy agrees to the secrecy.
The “casual” part?
Absolutely not. 😂❤️
I loved how certain Guy was about Nicole. He doesn't play games with her feelings or make her guess what he wants. He shows up, takes care of her, reassures her, respects her boundaries, and makes it very clear that he isn't looking for another temporary relationship.
Nicole's insecurities gave this quick romance an emotional layer I really appreciated. She spends so much time expecting Guy to eventually leave that allowing herself to believe he might stay becomes the scariest part of falling for him.
And Guy can't simply tell her she's beautiful once and magically erase those fears.
He has to keep choosing her.
And he does. 🥹
I especially loved that while Guy is protective and definitely has an obsessive streak, he eventually understands that loving Nicole means giving her room to choose him too. He wants everyone to know she's his, but he also recognizes that she needs time to believe their relationship is real.
Of course, something happens that nearly confirms every fear Nicole has been carrying, but I appreciated how quickly Guy steps up to clear things up. His devotion to her never felt like the question.
This man was ALL IN.
The chemistry was hot, Guy was swoony and protective, Nicole was vulnerable and feisty, and the Brody family added that cozy familiarity I love in an interconnected series.
For a novella, The Player I Can't Pick delivered exactly what I wanted. It was fast-paced, spicy, sweet, emotional, and incredibly easy to devour in one sitting.
Nicole thought keeping Guy a secret would protect her heart.
Guy was too busy proving he planned on keeping her. ❤️⚾
Thank you to Hope Ford and Booksprout for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
She can handle his desire. It’s his devotion that scares her most.
Nicole knows Guy is a terrible idea. He’s thirteen years older, one of baseball’s biggest names, and her father’s teammate. She knows his reputation, too, and she refuses to become another temporary distraction in a world where she already feels out of place.
Guy has no interest in keeping his distance. What starts as instant attraction turns possessive fast, but beneath the jealousy is a man who keeps showing up. He takes care of Nicole, makes room for her fears, and treats her boundaries like something to respect, even when every instinct tells him to claim more.
Wanting him is easy. Trusting him is harder. The closer they get, the more Nicole tries to keep them hidden and contained, terrified that making it real will only give Guy more power to hurt her. He refuses to call what they have casual, and she keeps looking for the ending before they’ve really begun. Every tender gesture makes the risk feel sharper, because the safest version of this relationship is the one she knows she can eventually leave.
Nicole slowly realizes that protecting herself from heartbreak is also keeping her from the intimacy and future she wants. Guy’s possessive certainty deepens into steadier devotion as he learns that loving her means giving her room to choose him, not just proving how badly he wants her.
Their connection grows from secrecy and explosive chemistry into something built on caretaking, exclusivity, reassurance, and trust. The more Guy shows her he intends to stay, the harder it becomes for Nicole to keep treating their relationship like something temporary.
An ultra-steamy, age gap, baseball, teammate’s daughter, secret relationship, curvy girl romance exploring body image, trust, vulnerability, reputation, intimacy, and found family. It’s about looking past the person everyone thinks they know and finding the courage to believe love can be more than another risk.
The Elevator Pitch: A guarded young woman knows the baseball legend thirteen years her senior is exactly the kind of man who could wreck the careful life she’s trying to build. What begins as a secret, fiercely physical connection becomes harder to contain when his tenderness, possessiveness, and relentless certainty force her to question whether protecting her heart is costing her something real. Caught between public scrutiny, old reputations, and the terror of trusting someone with the power to hurt her, she has to decide whether love is worth stepping out of hiding.
Guy Brody is a famous player for the Jasper Bears. He is already a baseball legend and easily recognized. Right now he is sitting at the bar in Jasper having a beer before his flight to Ohio in a few hours. He swapped his Jasper Bears hat for one with his brother's ranch name on it so he wouldn't be as recognizable. As he looks around the bar, he sees a gorgeous young woman with long red hair and beautiful eyes. But the way he looks at this woman is different. She is at least 10 years younger than he is. When she sees him, she looks at her phone several times. When someone knocks into his chair, he keeps his head down. But he hears the conversation behind him that a guy matched with her on Pick Me and he and his friend discuss his nasty plans for what he will do with her on their date. Guy is getting angry. He sees them looking at her and he is furious. When one of them says he will find out if she is willing to put out for him, Guy has heard enough! Towering over them, they recognized him, and he told them to delete her number NOW. They said they were joking, but he insists that her "date" removes her name from his phone and then demands they leave. Now Nicole is definitely watching him... she got the notice her date just unmatched!
When Guy eventually discovers Nicole's father is the new pitcher on the team, his plans to date Nicole might have hit a roadbump. Guy is serious about a relationship with her, but with her dad aware of his reputation, he might not be happy about that. She also realizes that she is nothing like his usual choices in women. So she cautiously agrees to date him but only if they keep their relationship a secret. Will that actually work out? Guy is willing to put in the effort to win her heart, no matter how many obstacles they may encounter. Will they find a HEA for themselves... or walk away to avoid complications?

⚾️❤️🔥 Age Gap + Off-Limits Baseball Legend = So Good! 😍🔥
I absolutely loved The Player I Can’t Pick! Nicole and Guy had me hooked from the beginning. He’s her dad’s teammate, thirteen years older, a famous baseball player, and completely off limits—which, of course, makes their romance even better! 😂⚾️❤️
Guy was definitely my favorite. Nicole knows all about his reputation and has every reason to believe she could never be the woman he would actually settle down for. But Guy makes it very clear that he doesn’t want something casual—he wants her. 🥹💕 I loved how he continually showed up for Nicole, took care of her, and proved through his actions that she wasn’t just another woman to him.
Nicole’s insecurities made their secret relationship emotional as well as steamy. She keeps waiting for Guy to break her heart, while he’s busy trying to convince her that she’s the one he’s been looking for. ❤️🔥
And I loved that Guy wasn’t interested in hiding forever! 😍 There’s something so good about a former player falling hard and realizing that when he finally finds the right woman, he wants everyone to know she belongs with him. 💕⚾️
Age gap, dad’s teammate, secret relationship, protective hero, he falls hard, and a heroine who finally realizes she really is the one he wants—this checked so many of my favorite boxes! 🔥🥰
Another great addition to The Brodys of Whiskey Run!
Definitely 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Hope Ford knocks it out of the park with The Player I Can’t Pick! This story has all the fun ingredients I love in a feel-good romance: a swoony baseball hero, a heroine who is easy to root for, a just-a-little-forbidden setup, and enough heart to keep the pages turning with a happy grin on my face.
Guy and Nicole’s chemistry is playful, sweet, and wonderfully addictive. I loved watching Guy show the caring man behind the legend, and Nicole’s mix of vulnerability and strength made their connection feel warm and satisfying. Their secret romance adds just the right spark without taking away from the tenderness at the center of the story.
The writing is upbeat, engaging, and effortlessly charming. Hope Ford has such a wonderful way of creating characters who feel lovable right away, and she keeps the story moving with emotion, humor, and plenty of swoon-worthy moments. It is the kind of book that feels like a cozy treat and a sparkling escape all at once.
If you enjoy positive, heart-happy romances with protective heroes, believable feelings, and a romance that makes you cheer for the couple every step of the way, this one is an easy five stars. I finished it feeling delighted, entertained, and ready for more of the Brody family!.

Guy & Nicole's story is soo sweet & swoonworthy!!! It's under 200 pages, so a pretty quick read, which is nice. There is a bit of some instalove... but there is also time to develop a deeper relationship, which they do & I really enjoyed their story!!!
This is Book 5 in The Brody's of Whiskey Run series, as an interconnected standalone. I have not read any of the previous books (yet! I definitely plan to!!), and I did not have a hard time following along, which I also really appreciated!! I loved all the characters... Guy's family seems so amazing! And I loved that Nicole's Dad was so understanding about them being together, even if he is 13 years older than her! I also liked that they didn't hide the relationship long... Guy was honest with her Dad when he asked.
I also loved that the 3rd act breakup was so short!! If you have to have it, it's really nice to have it be resolved very quickly!! :) (my personal opinion)
The book is told in a dual 1st person POV
Spice level: 3/5
*sports romance *baseball romance *contemporary romance *age gap (he's 36, she's 23) *he is teammates with her Dad *curvy girl rep/plus size FMC *small town romance *secret relationship
Thank you to the author (Hope Ford) & Booksprout for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
*The Player I Can’t Pick* is the fifth book in *The Brodys of Whiskey Run* series. I completely fell in love with Guy and Nicole's love story; it was truly raw, emotional, and heartfelt. The moment Guy notices Nicole, he is completely smitten with her. While Nicole knows who Guy is, she doesn’t initially reveal that she is the daughter of one of his teammates. Additionally, she doesn’t look like the typical women Guy has dated in the past, which makes her hesitant and adds a layer of complexity and insecurity to their relationship. She wants to keep their romance a secret.
However, that doesn’t stop Guy from wanting everyone to know they are together. When her father asks, Guy is straightforward about not wanting a casual relationship. What I love is how Guy consistently shows up for Nicole, caring for her and helping her see through her insecurities, which ultimately aids in her healing. You have to admire Nicole's feisty side and Guy’s obsessive side, as they perfectly balance each other out. It’s a fast-paced, easy, cozy, and heartfelt read that I didn’t want to end.

I love the Brody family and I've been looking forward to Guy's book and seeing who he ends up falling for. I'm not a huge reformed playboy trope lover, but I actually really liked Guy. He was all in from the first look, he was sincere and genuine in everything he did and was a true gentleman towards Nicole. Nicole had been hurt so many times by people because of her size and because of it had a pretty low self esteem when it came to believing in someone loving her. I could completely understand that, and the anxiety/fear it can cause, but it became a bit annoying when she constantly put distance between them no matter what he did. The ending seemed very rushed to me as well, considering her biggest fear was what she thought was coming true and then she was just fine. I kind of wanted to see that play out a bit more, but I was also just so glad she finally gave into the poor guy at the same time. I really liked her dad though, I was worried how that would play out but he was awesome. No cheating or OM drama, slight OW drama but it was cleared up within hours, dual POV's, 13 year age gap, dads teammate trope, HEA and a sweet epilogue in the future. I can't wait for Ozzy's book, and I'm hoping it'll be with Ivey, but I know that one's going to be emotional!
This is book five in the author’s Brodys of Whiskey Run series and features professional baseball player, Guy Brody (yeah, THOSE Brodys!) and Nichole, the daughter of one of Guy’s teammates.
I absolutely LOVED Guy! He was such a good guy and fell hard and fast, almost at first sight, for Nichole—so much so that he was willing to keep what they had together a secret—no matter that that was the last thing he wanted. Nichole I wasn’t so crazy about. I didn’t think she was worthy of anyone as sweet as Guy, always waffling back and forth as to what she wanted or how she felt about him. I did love when she got her head out of her rear end and admitted how she felt about him but before that, I wasn’t her biggest fan. I guess it maybe sounds a little weird when I say all that in one breath and then, in the next, I say how much I loved this book but that just goes to show how wonderful Guy was and how he single-handedly managed to carry this book (that’s my personal opinion anyway).
You really are gonna want to check this book out, it’s sweet and steamy and Guy is adorable (you can just ignore Nichole like I did until she gets with the program). 5 stars
I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.
DNF at 51%. I'm going to vent about this one. I like this author she's a fun read a little formulaic at times but I like it when they work.
I'm just tired of plus size h's and their insecurity and mean people fat shaming them and blah f'ing blah. If she's a curvy girl just let her be a curvy girl instead of her disbelieving a man who adores her and repeatedly tells her and proves it but she's still a bitch and stubborning oh he'll hurt me. OMG STFU already.
So she keeps push-pulling and really being mean to him and hurtful. Her dad has given his blessing, the guy has stated what she is to him and been nothing but sweet and loving but she's still a mean bitch and frankly he can do a lot better than her. The kicker was at this point she tells him she made a date with someone from a dating app. WTF
Another thing about the big girl trope it's hypocritical how the guy is 10 ways to sunday hot and cut. Why don't they make the guy a "big guy" with love handles? She could be a beautiful confident girl who loves her body the way it is and knows others do to. No more of these for me. I'm done
The Player I Can’t Pick by Hope Ford was exactly the kind of quick, swoony romance I needed! 😍
A baseball player + his teammate’s daughter + age gap + insta-love?! YES PLEASE. 🙌🏻
Guy falls for Nicole fast, hard, and completely—and I loved watching him go from player to this woman is mine energy. 🔥 But Nicole isn’t about to be just another number on his list. She wants to know that what they have is real, and I loved that she made him prove she was more than just another conquest.
And can we talk about Nicole?! A curvy heroine who knows what she wants and isn’t willing to settle? ❤️
This is a short read under 200 pages, so if you're looking for something you can devour quickly but still get the swoon, spice, and romance, add this one to your TBR!
💕 You should read this if you love:
⚾ Baseball player romance 🔥 Teammate’s daughter 🔥 Age gap 💘 Insta-love 🥰 He falls first, fast & HARD 💕 Curvy heroine 📖 Quick, steamy reads
Sometimes you just need a book where the man knows what he wants—and Guy definitely knows what he wants. 😉🔥
The Player I Can't Pick is book five of the The Brodys Of Whiskey Run, and Guy and Nicole don't disappoint.
Their meet cute is great, while a little sad at the same time. Guy gives off the perfect amount of alpha vibes possible and handles the situation amazingly well. The fact he's persistent at wooing Nicole and will do anything to show how serious he is about their relationship is swoon worthy MMC material.
What to expect ⚾ Instalove ⚾ He Falls First and Hard ⚾ Baseball Player x Teacher ⚾ Age Gap ⚾ Interlinking Characters ⚾ Interconnected Standalone ⚾ Team Mates Daughter ⚾ Steamy Scenes ⚾ Dual POV ⚾ Very Mild OW Drama (not the MMCs fault) ⚾ Small Town Romance ⚾ HEAs
Hope delivers another amazing instalove read that I couldn't put down. I'm excited for Ozzy's story the little glimpses of his fun brother side peaking through with Guy in this has ne ready to go. 5star instalove brilliance.
What an amazing story this was! I was completely hooked from the very beginning and just couldn’t put it down.
I absolutely loved Nicole. She knows she’s curvy and she’s completely okay with it, which I really loved to see. And then there’s Guy, who thinks she’s absolutely beautiful exactly the way she is.
I also loved the whole connection between them, especially because Guy is one of her dad’s teammates and a famous baseball player. That brought a whole different kind of insecurity into their relationship. The whole “what will everyone else think?” aspect made it even more emotional and realistic.
This was such a good story, especially because you really start hoping that they’ll stay together and that they can just be happy and enjoy each other. I was so invested in them and really wanted them to get their happy ending.
I loved their chemistry, their connection, and just how sweet and hot this whole story was. Definitely a 5-star read for me!
A fantastic read as Guy Brody was low key trying to have dinner before catching the flight out with the Bears baseball team. He saw the most attractive woman across the room Nicole Foxx. There was something about her that called to him even though he thought she was to young for him. This lead to a pretty fabulous meet cute for the pair, as she had noticed him too, and she had recognized him for being the famous baseball player. They made a strong charismatic couple with lots of energy that played off one another well. Nicole was an only child with no family except her father, so her being introduced to the Brody clan all at one time was like being in a whirlwind of people. All and all a book well worth giving it a read.

Guy is a professional baseball player who was enchanted by Nichole before he even met her however he believes he should keep his distance because of the age gap. When he overhears her being disrespected he isn’t about to stand by. Even though his past relationships have been casual he soon realizes that Nichole is different and now he just needs to convince her.
When Nicole meets Guy she can’t deny her feelings for him but doesn’t expect anything to come of it. Not only is he a teammate of her father’s but she is nothing like the women he has previously dated and isn’t sure why someone like him would be interested in someone like her.
A secret relationship, great chemistry and a man who is willing to show Nicole that she is the only woman he will ever need and isn’t about to let anything come between them and that includes her need to be cautious.
Guy notices a girl in a bar. It looks like she might be waiting for someone. He also notices two guys watching her and discussing her. They are not been nice about their conversation either. Guy notices and goes over to talk to them. He then goes over and introduces himself to the girl. He decides to take her back to her apartment. As they continue talking he is enjoying the conversation, the personality and he is attracted to her. She doesn’t believe him because of who he is and who he has dated in the past. He is going to have to prove he wants to date her. They are keeping things under wraps will they try to date. It’s funny the struggles they go to. Put it’s a fun, enjoyable, sweet, sexy little story with great characters! Entertaining read.

The Player I Can’t Pick is sweet instalove with beautiful family and off the charts chemistry. Nicole resists Guy so hard, she is scared—understandably so—and she refuses to believe his feelings for her. It makes for a frustrating conflict, and yet Guy is so sure of himself and his love that he doesn’t let her deter him—but he still respect her boundaries, which I love! The family scenes are priceless and so much fun, and the thing with Ozzie and Ivey—can’t wait for that to go down!!! Author Hope Ford has delivered another engaging and adorable love story with people I couldn’t stop rooting for. Loved it!!.

Guy meets an amazing woman at a bar and immediately knows he wants everything with her. She gives him only her name before disappearing, leaving him convinced he’s lost his chance. That is, until he discovers she’s actually the daughter of one of his teammates.
Guy relentlessly pursues Nicole, but her deep-rooted insecurities keep getting in the way.
This was such an interesting read, especially the way it explores insta-love and a curvy heroine who is slowly learning to heal from her insecurities. Nicole’s journey is a beautiful reminder that just because you’re not a size 1 doesn’t make you any less beautiful. Your worth—and your beauty—aren’t defined by your size.

Nicole is the daughter of one of the player's that Guy plays baseball with.. & yes, this is MESSY. It's only messy because Nicole wants to 1, hide it 2, thinks it's just a fling/casual and 3, doesn't believe that Guy could fall so quickly. The Player I Can't Pick starts off with a 'love at first sight' moment. Sadly, at most of the 'turns' Nicole is pulling back because she doesn't trust Guy. & Guy the whole time is trying to prove that he's a good guy and the playboy days are behind him. I really enjoyed his character arc. Nicole's character arc was a bit stunted until near the end. Overall, a quick decent read.
I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely **loved** this book! Guy being completely obsessed with Nicole was everything. The way he is so committed to her and so sure that she’s the one had my heart melting the entire time.
Nicole’s hesitation about getting into a relationship is completely valid, and I really understood where she was coming from. But at the same time… my heart broke for Guy watching him be so devoted to her while she struggled to let him in. He wanted her, chose her, and was all in—and I was here for it!
Their chemistry, the emotions, the possessiveness, and Guy’s unwavering commitment made this such a fun and swoony read. Hope Ford knows exactly how to give me the obsessed MMC I’m looking for
Another Brody brother to fall for, and I am absolutely loving this series
