Eunomia. Right hand of the Angel. Guardian. The last of her kind, is now…. Death’s hunter. And the thing she most desperately needs to find is herself.
For thousands of years, the Guardians collected the souls of the dead, bringing them before the God of Death for their final judgment. It all ended when Eunomia’s sisters, the other twelve Guardians, betrayed the God of Death and his daughter. In the blink of an eye, Eunomia’s reason for existing ceased to be.
Now, Eunomia is the last of her kind, and she has no idea what to do with the rest of eternity.
Everything changes the day her best friend, the new Goddess of Death, comes to her with a problem only Eunomia can solve: “We’re having a problem with lost souls. Find them, and bring them back to me.”
Of course, nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems, and what at first appears to be nothing more than a simple soul collecting job turns into an around-the-world journey that challenges Eunomia at every turn. All she has to do is find twenty-seven lost souls, keep her friend sane, and solve a mystery… all while trying not to lose herself in the arms of a man thousands of years of experience tells her she should avoid.

This is Eunomia's story. We get to ride along as she finds her purpose.
Eunomia is an amazing, fierce, beautiful, brave, loyal, perceptive, caring friend. Molly sends E on a mission and it sets the path for E to find her new life's purpose. With all that's happened to her, she needs it. Read as E kicks a ton of butt, possibly has a love interest, makes new friends and enemies and finds herself.
I was lucky enough to be a beta-reader for this new off-shoot to the Hidden books. The story is written from the perspective of Eunomia, the last of the Guardians, and although we do see Molly and the rest of the gang, most of them are nowhere near centre stage. E's voice is quite different to Molly's, and that takes a little while to get used to, but it's well worth the effort. There are some new characters to meet, and a different angle to some familiar ones, some bad guys are smashed, and some romance for the good guys.
I am so glad Eunomia finally can tell her story!! I gave this 5 stars because it is so well written, and so believable. E has always been one of my favorite characters. She is so strong, loyal and just al around badass. I have recommended the whole series to friends of mine who enjoy this genre, and nobody has been disappointed. Sincerely looking forward to finding out how it all goes!
Really enjoyed reading. Kept my interest and didn't want to put it down. Great how they all have specific jobs and responsibility for keeping peace. Highly recommend reading.
I love being back in the Hidden world. E is definitely a character I wanted more of, as well as Brennan. The connection between them is strong, I hope it stays that way!!
Colleen Vanderlinden has done it yet again - another riveting masterpiece! Her Hidden series for me is in my top all time favourite books now and whilst many writers seem to suffer the spin off series as a paler version of the original, Colleen has managed to avoid this and with style! This is the first in a new series with Eunomia as the main character. She is an amazing main character whom I can't wait to read more about. One of the things I love most about this book is Eunomia's voice, it so loud and clear in my head, with such uniqueness that it pales many other urban fantasy heroines into the shade.
Eunomia has a tough path ahead of her and she is not as invincible as I at first thought. She is a complicated creature, centuries old, worldy wise in her many experiences yet so innocent of modern life and relationships. It is refreshing to see. No stupid naive mistakes here, just actions from the heart. The new characters that are introduced in this book are as equally grabbing as all the others Colleen has written about and I am just so impatient to read more! As much as we got to know about the Hidden world with Molly, we are seeing it though very different eyes now and I am delighted by the new Gods, the old relationships coming to the fore, the new species/beings that no one know about and very much the new flame! The romance here is toe curling sweet and intense. The action is breath taking and edge of your seat stuff. The characters are people I really really wish were real, as I want to be best friends with them. Most of all the story is spell binding and deserves a place in everyone's reading list.
This is top class writing with the undefinable extra something that makes reading a true gift. To say I loved Guardian would be an understatement!
Guardian is the first novel in the Hidden: Soulhunter series, a spin-off of the popular Hidden series. Guardian features Eunomia, an evolving character from Hidden, who is now given her opportunity to stretch her wings and grow. Set at a very fast pace, Eunomia is finding her place in a new world, doing what she does best, hunting souls. She is confronted with everything she’s known to be true; she is challenged to confront her allegiances and responsibilities.
While traversing the familiar landscape of hunting souls - Eunomia’s duties are complicated by unexpected teammates and adversaries. Betrayal and loyalties confront Eunomia’s each move, and through it all Eunomia keeps true to herself and her queen, but none of it comes easy to E.
This book has serious jaw-dropping moments that, even as an avid fan of Colleen Vanderlinden’s work, I was not prepared for. I love that as an author, Ms. Vanderlinden does not pull the punches or holds any characters sacred; everyone is fair game in the world of Hidden, which makes victories that much sweeter. This was a great first book in a new series, I eagerly await the next installment!
While Guardian can be a stand-alone story, it is a much richer read having read the Hidden series.
Pretty good continuation with E as the main character. I'm not sure I'm huge on Brennan being back in the spotlight, it isn't that he's a bad character; rather, that the two don't mesh and he had his spotlight 2 books back; and E has always been darker, edgier; (It's almost like Bren was the go to because the author couldn't figure out anything else for him.) Still a few typos/missing letters, but overall, the story is a nice continuation with Eunomia having her own distinctive voice; though her story, so far, seems to be an extension (even in backdrop with the imps), of Molly's. Not bad or good, just hoping this isn't a trend if Rayna and other characters get their own slice of story in the Hidden World in the future.
I like the Hidden series... so far, I LOVE the Soulhunter series. Guardian is Eunomia's story. Eunomia is the 13th Guardian, created by Nyx because she saw something lacking in her first twelve Guardians. Eunomia is synomous with duty; she has lived for eons, fetching souls to be judged. Guardian has the characters we know and love from the Hidden series, as well as new, interesting characters. Eunomia has been on walkabout for two years, learning about, but not really living in, the world in which she is now trapped. Now, Eunomia may be forced to find out what her duty and her life truly are. Guardian has laughter, sorrow, good, evil, and surprises.
If I could give 6 stars to this book I surely would! I love this amazingly creative world built from mythology and urban fantasy! And Eunomia is complex and kind and loyal and everything a heroine should be. Brennan is male perfection IMHO and I love the guy! Supporting characters are well defined and feel real. The storyline is great, had me thinking and holding my breath many times. And I cried, which means good things for me emotionally. Read The Hidden books if you haven't and then read and love this series!
Eunomia's return home after a few years are sure confusing. Mollis has asked her to perform a task that leads to more questions than answers hunting down lost souls. To top it off Brennan ( my darling Brennan) is confusing E even more. I loved this book, like looking in on old friends to make sure that they are doing well. I love reading from Eunomia's pov. Brennan jokes that she's spock, but she doesn't get it! Now I have months to wait until Betrayer comes out so I can see where all this new craziness with escaped souls is coming from.
I fell in love with the Hidden series by Colleen and was so sad when it ended. But it hasn't really ended, it's alive and all about Eunomia. Colleen has a way with her characters that you can't help but care for them. Now we can see the real Eumonia, the one that was hidden behind her badass exterior. As expected with the Hidden series, there's lot of ass kicking and some new relationships. I won't give it away, but I'm absolutely ecstatic about it! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Eunomia was a favorite character before but wow...I loved getting to know her better and really like the direction her love life is taken. YES Colleen you made me cry again ;) and this is why you are my favorite. This book is an adventure, and I can't wait for more!!
I have read this before but I decided to reread the entire series now that the last book is out. I loved it even more this time. I may have to reread this series a few more times. Colleen Vanderlinden is one of those authors who knows how to reach inside of you and grab your soul. Getting ready to read Book 2!
I loved this book!! E is such a brass but very loyal, And I sensed her vulnerability that she keeps hidden. I can't wait for July! I highly recommend all the Hidden books if you want a great story!
What a great read. Didn't expect to enjoy this book so much. E has such a big story to tell and just love the interaction with Brennan. Can't wait for the next book. I have really loved this series. Well done Colleen Vanderlinden.
