I don't really know why I downloaded this, as I'm an experienced seamstress, but I think it was free and I love reading sewing books so I had a look. It is absolutely NOT what it purports to be. There is a section at the front with very basic information on names of stitches and bits of your machine, but nothing that you can't get better elsewhere. There's no information on techniques, and the rest of the book is 50 very basic projects which again you can get online from blogs and websites for free, and probably better because, at least in the Kindle version, there are no pictures to follow. If you want to learn to sew then I'd start with free online resources, then invest in some decent books on pattern cutting and technique (a good starter is the Dorling Kindersley book on sewing, which I still sometimes refer to myself) as this book has nothing of any value in it and wasn't worth buying even when free! A huge disappointment.
The book title is misleading. There are a few cute ideas but the instructions on how to sew the items are not helpful. I saw a wallet I might make, but the instructions left dozens of steps out. The pictures showed a wrist strap, a zippered feature, and a way to keep the wallet closed. The instructions said to cute out three pieces of fabric, make an accordion fold, and then turn the fabric to show the right sides out. That's literally the truth.
Very basic, full of errors such as incorrect measurements, missed steps, bizarre assumption of knowledge in places and sometimes total lack of measurements such as "you will need six pieces of fabric cut to whatever size you want" - how on earth is that supposed to help a beginner? Don't waste your time.
I love books that give simple basic patterns in such a way as to be easily understood. This book does that. Ms. Moore writes the directions in such a way as to be easily understood. And her book has many patterns that I fully plan to use in the near future, both for myself and as gifts for others. Thank you for some good ideas.
I have four grand daughters who are eager to learn to sew. This book will prove as an excellent source of tips and attractive, useful beginning projects! Thrilled to find it!
I found this book to be simple to understand. Anyone could do all these projects They are good projects for novice sewers and more for more advanced sewers. Good projects for craft fairs. Most of them you could compete in a day.
Half of the instructions to make some of these projecuts are missing. This is absolutely a horrible instructional book. Pieces were thrown together to try and just sell a book. Horrible!
The break down of sewing vocabulary & the foundations of sewing were well done. The included patterns were well chosen. My only dislike is that some patterns don't have a full description of how to fully complete a project such a sewing corners.
How many cute projects, however the digital doesn't offer any links that work. There was one that lets you a website that you had to pay for, other ones led to a food blog. But I would imagine a paper copy would be amazing.
I try never to complain about something that someone else has made, be it sewing, crafting, needlework or writing a book. I don't like to criticise something, especially when the person on the other end doesn't have a method to respond.
However I hate to spend money and be totally frustrated and disappointed with my purchase and I wanted people to be aware of this before they get this. This book has many, wide ranging patterns for the novice to learn to use a sewing machine. The book and patterns are aimed at a total novice with clear instructions, however not a single photograph or sketch to SHOW you what you are aiming for and how close to the intended item you got!
You are expected to click on links to access a gallery in an author's blog, then search for and scroll the page for the photo ...
I read the Kindle version and it was the most annoying book I have ever read. Every page I 'turned' caused a pop up that asked me to subscribe. To get the pictures for the projects, I had to subscribe and then find the right link for the gallery. This is a very basic book, and a good place to start if you have never sewn in your life, or it has been a few decades (think Home Ec in 8th grade) However the pop ups were so distracting and frustrating, and having to look at the instructions (with NO PICS) and then flip over to a website to view what the finished project looked like was just too much of an annoyance.
