It’s 1895 in London, England, and orphaned Aryssa Holmes is struggling to find answers to her parents’ untimely death. Since she is now eighteen, and the orphanage cannot keep her for much longer, the niece of Sherlock Holmes is taken in by the Watson family. Bound and determined, she spends the next seven years pursuing her dream of becoming a private detective–with or without the help of the eldest daughter of Dr. Watson.
Eleanor Watson enjoys the idea of having a new flatmate and friend, but when Aryssa continually puts her on edge, she cannot take it anymore. Convinced that Aryssa should be taken down a few notches, Eleanor abandons her flatmate and moves back into her parents’ home. However, London is not without its mysteries, and Scotland Yard has reported several mysterious deaths. There is also a sobbing young woman who likes to hang around the Watson’s, and a suspicious new Superintendant at the Yard. With the strain of a broken friendship, multiple deaths, and annoying young ladies, Eleanor wonders if she will be able to keep up with it all.
Both young ladies are striving to accomplish something: one to fix a friendship and the other to get away from the other. And the two of them are blissfully unaware that the clock is ticking. When mysteries abound and friends fail to communicate with each other, anything is bound to happen. Will the both of them learn to work together before it is too late? Or will retribution beat them to it?
Anna Lane is a homeschool graduate with an overactive imagination and a love for storytelling. She writes books of mystery, filled with twists, turns, and plenty of humor. When she isn’t writing, you can find her keeping up with her studies at her Christian college, reading British Literature, running in the country, or randomly bursting out into song.
She published her debut novel, Retribution, in 2026, and is currently working to expand her series, Watson's Recollections.
July 17th, 2026 -- Hopefully this will be the last update for this book, but Retribution is officially published and available on Amazon!

July 16th, 2026 -- ARCs sent out. So, due to some wonderful technical difficulties, Retribution will (hopefully) be published by the end of the week, which is... Super fun.
But I have found through the waiting process two things:
1. God is good all the time 2. And all the time, God is good.
I don't mean this in a sappy way of "Everything is going to work out fine for me if I continue to repeat it". Sometimes God derails our plans because His are so much better. Sometimes it means waiting a few more days for a book to be released. It teaches us patience. It teaches us to rely on Him, even with small things like this. It's interesting to ponder on this this morning because Retribution has a similar theme: when we try to take matters into our own hands and rely on our own strength, it doesn't work out well for us.
Anyway, just a small update for you guys :) I will be posting when it actually releases!
