When Janelle’s sister dies, she doesn’t hesitate to accept custody of her nephew Sebastian. As a nurse, Sebastian’s kidney failure and dialysis isn’t too scary, but it doesn’t take long for her to feel woefully inadequate as a new mother. She’s grateful for the support of her friend, Deputy Devon Armbruster, even though he’s made it clear he’s not looking for a relationship.
Devon lost his fiancée and unborn child three years ago, and watching Janelle and Sebastian only reminds him of his painful loss. Yet somehow Janelle’s love and faith makes him realize that he might be worthy of a second chance. When Sebastian is kidnapped, Devon faces the biggest challenge of his career. He must find the little boy in time to save his life, or lose his chance of having love and a family, forever.
4 stars I purchased the short story Second Chance : Crystal Lake Series book 6 by Laura Scott and this review was given freely. This short sweet romance story returns to the ER nurse falls in love with a Deputy theme. Deputy Devon who is still hurting after the death of his fiancee and unborn child 5 years ago reevaluates his career after his older brother dies from cancer. ER Nurse and Christian Janelle becomes the sudden guardian of her 4 year old nephew Sebastian, who is living with kidney failure, after her sister dies. Former friends become closer together as Devon lends support during an illness, robbery, and kidnapping.
Laura Scott is an amazing author. This story about Devon and Janelle continues the saga of the folks living in Crystal Lake. The compassion of folks in a small town along with the fellowship and caring is one of the things I love best about this author’s style of writing. She brings the characters to life. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!
All of the books in this series were great to read! She pulls you in at the very beginning and it's very difficult to put her books down. Keep writing laura!!
Great writing! I enjoyed all six books in this series. I hope everyone likes her books as much as I do!!!
I couldn't out this one down. The mystery being intertwined with a love story and a child that had health problems was spell binding. I am thankful all turned out great in the end. I recommend this book highly.
If you enjoy a mystery wrapped in a Christian romance, then this is a gift from Laura Scott. Combining pediatric medicine and law officers is a nice blend. I enjoyed the characters. I like all the books in this series.
Finally, another book in Laura Scott's Crystal Lake series comes to an end with a heartwarming ending on a promise that true love prevails over all odds!
This one did not resonate with me, at least not at this particular time; and so, I found myself becoming a bit critical of minor details in the narrative instead of simply reading for the entertainment value of the story.
The storyline peaked my interest in kidney failure. As I have worked with some with this issue. It was good to know there was an option apart from dialysis
I started this book less than a day ago and I couldn't put it down. The story of Devon and Janelle is more than a love story between two people it is also a story about love for a little boy who has to have peritoneal dialysis three times a day. Make sure you put this book at the top of your reading list. It's a keeper!
Janelle takes over the care of her nephew who is suffering from kidney failure. Devon, a local deputy, becomes involved with the new family. He is trying to decide if his future means staying in the small town or moving to the big city
I enjoyed the different story line. Not the usual couple Meets and falls in love dialogue, so very nice !I enjoyed reading it and look forward to more very soon .
