Into the Light

This book wasn’t quite as good as the first one, but that’s okay, I knew that. Because the thing that makes the first book one of my favorites was mostly resolved at the end. Still, it was very nice to read about Avery and Noah again. And woohooo, we get smexy times.
We get to see how Avery has grown since meeting Noah. He is so much stronger thanks to Sam, Noah and his therapist. I loved seeing how he stood up for himself.
In this book Avery meets his 2 younger brothers. They have been looking for him for years and now they found him. Avery is thrilled, but Avery’s brother Sam not so much. When Sam starts acting like a jerk Avery is heartbroken, but he doesn’t let the blackness swallow him again. That was such a beautiful thing to read about. It truly shows how far Avery had come.
This is a nice sequel to Out of the Blackness, not extremely special, but a must read for people wanting to see how Avery and Noah are doing after the first book.

I pre-ordered this book so when I woke up yesterday the book was on my kindle. I stared at it in excitement and dread. A sequel to one of my favorite books... it will either be horrible or fantastic. I took a deep breath and started to read.
Let's go back a second- If you haven't read Out of the Blackness... why not?!? No seriously, stop! Read it first!!! Out of the Blackness is on my all time favorite list. I've read it several times and it is one of the best MM books written. The emotional journey Avery goes through... wow!

Into the Light was a worthy followup to Out of the Blackness. I loved it. The story picks up about a year and a half after Out of the Blackness ends and we get to see, first hand, just how far Avery has come. His demons may not ever be fully gone, but he has come so far and he has the tools and the support to put them in their place. It was beautiful to see.
Into the Light is all about family and one of my favorite themes - family is often not the people you are born to, but rather those who really have your back and who will help you up and dust you off when you fall. That's really what family is all about and I'm so happy that Avery found his.
The angst in the story came from a place I really would never have expected it to, but it was resolved - thankfully - before irreparable damage was done. Navigating the ever changing landscape as families grow and change can be ever challenging and we see Avery and Sam face some unexpected uncertainty. It was breaking my heart for a while, but I was glad to see all work out well.
Avery and Noah are such a strong couple in this book. When I read a story where the MC's are an established couple that I already care about, I always kind of fear that the story angst will be centered on their relationship. I'm so happy that wasn't the case here. They are so solid and so strong, it was beautiful. Avery has come so far and is healthy and happy and facing new things head on and that he has Noah as his champion is just so perfect.
So, I recommend this book to anyone that has read and enjoyed Out of the Blackness . There is so much hope here and a whole lot of happiness.

A review by The Blogger Girls.
It was so nice to see sweet Avery again and how well he is doing. He had such a rough start, but with the help of Noah, Sam and the rest of their little “family,” he seems to be doing remarkably well.
After spending some time living on his own successfully, he and Noah have the opportunity to move into Noah’s family home and make it their own. Avery is still a little fragile at times, but Noah is on top of things as much as he can be. He makes sure Aves knows how much he is loved, how well he is handling things, and how proud Noah is of him at every turn. The support Aves now has is truly amazing and heartwarming. It is tested a bit, however, with the appearance of Aves’ younger brothers whom he had left behind many years ago.
The problems don’t come from those brothers though, they come from Aves’ other brother, Sam, who is having difficulty with his fear of losing Aves, being a husband and soon to be father. Unfortunately, it is Aves who is most affected. Thankfully, he doesn’t take too long to make things right, but it was a rough stretch for a while there.
This is a really sweet story, which I admit, I don’t usually go for. However, this is Avery we are talking about, and dammit, he deserves as much sweet as he can get. I am so happy to see he is overcoming his past and making a happy future. I really like all the characters in this series and would really like to see more about some of the others. This was a great follow up to Out of the Blackness and definitely earns Carter a spot on my auto to read list.

'Out of the Darkness' and 'Into the Light' such appropriate cliché titles for these books. In book one we met Avery we watched him step out of the dark place where he would go to hide from the world and himself. Avery had the life that no child, no person every deserves to have and watching him as fought back to find himself and reclaim his life and ultimately fall in love was sweet and heartbreaking all at once. I loved that first book for so many personal reasons that have everything to do with me and nothing to do with this book so I'm not going to go into them other than to say that they are a big part of why this book with these characters has burrowed so deeply into my heart and I have no interest in changing that.
'Into the Light' was a chance to revisit Avery and Noah and all their friends to see how much Avery has grown and to see the strength with which he handles even more changes to his life. Noah and Avery have been together for over a year now and their life is moving forward. They're a couple making their own home and continuing to learn more about each other with each passing day.
I'm not sure I'd so much consider that this was a story with a plot so much as a glimpse at someone's journal, someone being Avery alternating with Noah. This may sound boring to some people but it was anything but. There's so much going on in Avery's life still and things happen that are very unexpected. Seeing how Avery deals with the events that transpire is yet another example of the growth and healing that is happening within Avery. While Sam is still very much a part of Avery's life and his big brother the focus in this book was for the most part more strongly on how Avery is dealing with things on his own or with the help of his partner Noah. Although I did have a moment of being more than a little unhappy with Sam, but suffice it to say the moment passed.
Out of the Darkness held many strong emotional moments for me. I gave way to both laughter and tears. Into the Light did not fail me emotionally either, it just gave me more smiles and laughter than tears. In the end this book could stand as the authors final note in Avery's story, but I hope not because it really does allow for more and I would love to curl up on my patio with Avery, Noah and their family again on some warm summer day in the future. Mostly because...who wouldn't want to know more about this cute little fella'

Noah to Avery: “I thought you loved my sap.”
I have to answer yes to this. Into the Light is a sappy, happy, hearts and flowers romance. It’s not that cheesy sappy though. When one looks at Avery’s past it just happens to be the only kind of happily ever after that could work for him. At the beginning of this book readers get to know an Avery that has had well over a year of therapy, and love and devotion from Noah. He’s in a good place and things can only get better for him. This is a happy book. I do recommend reading Out of the Blackness first though. Into the Light doesn’t work on its own.
Avery is living the life he never allowed himself to believe he was worthy of having. He has a happy home with the man he loves. He has friends that he cherishes so much he calls them family. He has a full life. His family is getting bigger though and it seems that adding more nuts into this already mixed bag may cause some stress and poor behaviors from others. It is after all family and there are times that that is simply the family way. Avery has to deal with new situations that he never had to attempt to handle while he remained firmly in the blackness.
This second installment into Avery’s life is told from both his and Noah’s point of view, first person. As with its predecessor it takes place over the majority of a year. Rest assured it is not all sap. There is plenty of conflict and tough situations for Avery to deal with. The happy comes from the fact that he has such an incredible support network to give him the shoulders and hands that he had so few of in his past. Noah and Avery are also a couple that I was more than happy to revisit. They’ve had a great romance to share and it would seem that Carter Quinn plans on continuing to share it with his readers.

This story picks up where "Out of the Darkness" left off. Avery and Noah are living together. With Noah's loving patience, Avery is realizing his abilities, and what it's like to love and be loved. With Sam and Kira expecting, Avery's family is expanding. All seems well, till Avery is reunited with his blood brothers. A budding relationship between the siblings, has Sam on the outs. His attitude is causing misery for everyone around him, especially Avery. Avery is befuddled by Sam's behavior, but determined to have his brothers in his life.
This is a beautiful, loving story. It's a story about who we were, who we are, and who we will be. It's about love being the glue that binds us all together.
Please read the first book so that you can fully appreciate this second story. Also, keep the tissue handy, there are as many tears as there are smiles.

I loved Avery and Noah, their story is just so beautiful. They are so perfect together. This second book was a good sequel to Out of the Blackness. But it felt unfinished. It's all about Avery and his two
real brothers and Sam who feels rejected. I can understand that perfectly but we read about it for a good half of the book and in two sentences, it's over, forgotten and forgiven... Too easy for my taste. That's why I didn't give 5 stars.
And the cover could seem insignificant at first, especially if you look at it before reading the book. But if you do it just after the last word, it makes perfect sense and it's really beautiful.

It was nice seeing Avery and Noah and their whole big extended "family" again. I liked that this was the kind of sequel that doesn't mess with the HEA, it just solidifies it.
That being said, I didn't like this as much as the first book and I think the problem may have been that Avery just seemed to read so young to me in the way he talks and acts, but also how Noah and Sam act with him. I know this was part of the conflict in the story (how Noah and Sam are too protective) but it just made it difficult for me to warm up to Avery and his relationship with Noah this time around.

If I can only read one feel good book this year would be "Into the Light" by Carter Quinn. First of all, let me say that this is a continuation of the first book “Out of the Blackness” This is the second part of Avery story after some good changes in his life. Now he has a steady boyfriend who is Noah, who love him with all his soul, and he gain a sister-in –law as well. Life seems to be perfect with Avery, however life is seldom is. People are not perfect. Avery still have to deal with other people’s feelings, especially when some people of his past resurface. I will not give out any spoilers. The first book made me cry a lot, but also feel hopeful. However, this book is a feel good one, even though there were a scene or two that I want to cry too. Carter Quinn is a great writer, and can’t wait to check out his other works.

a big thank you from me Carter for closing this series off as perfectly as it could have been closed off. There was a happy ending for everyone, there was lots of love (<3 Noah and Aves), lots of tears (from me too) and a lovely feel good feeling after I'd finished it.

Bu kez sadece Avery'nin ağzından okumuyoruz yaşananları.. Aynı zamanda Noah tarafından anlatılan bölümler de var.. Bence süper olmuş çünkü kendisine bayılıyorum :D
İlk kitap kadar olmasa da Into The Light da çok güzeldi..
Avery için büyük sürprizler doluydu..
Sam beni sinir etti ama ona da hak vermek lazım.. Zaten her şeyi öğrendikten sonra Aves de öyle yaptı..
Keşke biraz daha uzun olsaymış kitap.. O son bölümlerden sonra Avery ve Noah'nın geleceğini iyice merak etmeye başlamıştım.. İnşallah bir kitap daha gelir seriye..

This is the second book in Avery's series.In this book we find Avery & Noah moving in together.Avery is in a better mental state and still having therapy sessions but is a happier young man with more confidence and boundless energy that it's wonderful to see.Avery gets good news from Sam & Kiara in that Noah & he are going to be uncles.Avery is excited about this news.Another bit of news for Avery is that his younger step-brothers ( the ones that didn't subject him to physical violence ) find him and they attempt to get to know each other.Sam & Noah become the protectors they feel they need in Avery's case.I won't say more, though a good read it's short.I recommend it because I like the Avery character and the leaps and bound he's made.This is indeed a good read!

This is the conclusion of the Avery saga. The name says it all. The first one is about fighting the darkness going toward the light. This one is about actually trying to be happy just like all the rest of us humans. Quinn didn't create any over the top drama. No, we just watch these characters try to find their balance. Sam and Noah are here in force but it's Avery that has the chance to be the man he was suppose to be. The sex was sexy and well written. Nope its not a heavy as the first and that's the way it should be.

Really just an epilogue to book 1, although longer, that showed how Avery and his relationships haveimprovedin the 1.5 to 2 years since the end of book 1.
Just ignore the storyline break, Karamanages to have a pregnancy of 15 months (with a baby gender change). However, it would havebeen difficult to have imagined the changes in Avery if the time periodwas shorter.

Oh god I love Noah and Avery. This was a really good follow up to their first story. This was must shorter :( I would have loved for it to go on and on. I've already read their first story twice, so I was excited to read the follow up.

I really loved seeing Avery and Noah’s relationship really grow in this book. I still prefer the first book angst and slow burn over this one, but it was still an enjoyable story. Having Avery showcase the full range of his emotions made for an interesting and thrilling read.

I'm so very disappointed. I LOVED the first book. I'm a sucker for hurt/comfort stories, alright? And that one was ADORABLE. All the characters were enjoyable, the dialogues fucking GREAT and the whole process of Avery healing was paced pretty much perfectly.
HONESTLY, if you loved the first book, don't read this. This is a waste of time, money and potential. Go see Nor Iron Bars a Cage or something.
But this? THIS? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME, CARTER?? I loved you! For once I'd found a writer of gay romance that wasn't a woman! (That will ALWAYS make me laugh #fujoshiFTW)
First, this is two years after Out of the Blackness. Two. Years. Avery's finished healing, Noah and him moved in together, they had sex for the first time OFFSCREEN. Avery's the chief of the library, Noah works IDK where and they are in love and it's perfect.
But I never wanted perfect! I wanted to see Avery move in with Noah; I wanted to see them having sex for the first time; I wanted him to befriend Noah's mom; I wanted him to meet his mom and learn why she hated him.
Because the back cover I read NEVER said that it's two years later. I thought It would be a continuation! But no. Avery is fine, he's healed, he's good and him and Noah are together forever.
Second, it's about... nothing. Really, all that happens is that
Now, the first one had even less than that, but it was a character study or something. It was about Avery wanting to be Noah's boyfriend and winning over his fears at the end. It was adorable and normal and interesting. This? It's filler. I'm putting the spoilers on because I'm not a bitch, but it's really not worth it.
But really my problem is with Sam's 180 heel-turn. IT'S TERRIBLE #mistake. It was the absolute filler for this book that was already too short.
Third, the switching POVs. I HATE when a series that had an established 1st POV character, like the first book, Ice Like Fire or Allegiant, suddenly adds another POV character. Because that really doesn't make it obvious as hell that you're going to kill the MC off. NOT THAT AVERY DIES, because that'd be absolutely ridiculous, but it still gave me that feeling because it's a terrible thing to do, no one should do that and all editors should burn manuscipts that do this. Yes, I hate this THAT bad. That's why 3rd person exists, anf if you have to change your POV in an on-going series, then you've failed at something and shouldn't be allowed to write more until you've figured out what.
It keeps switching between Noah and Avery's perspective because just being in Avery's end would've been so much more boring. Because he's fine! But I don't want him fine! I want him fine at the end! Gah!
This book was a mistake. I was honestly expecting: Avery and Noah having sex for the first time; Avery meeting either his mom or step-dad, or his brothers and confronting the two that way, and learning why she hated him; maybe some more insight about Noah's past with Kaleb and his dad, like he had his own blackness in the first book right? and Avery befriending Noah's mom. Things like that! Not this waste of my time and money!
Two stars because I still like the characters and the dialogues were tons of fun.

First, this is two years after Out of the Blackness. Two. Years. Avery's finished healing, Noah and him moved in together, they had sex for the first time OFFSCREEN. Avery's the chief of the library, Noah works IDK where and they are in love and it's perfect.
But I never wanted perfect! I wanted to see Avery move in with Noah; I wanted to see them having sex for the first time; I wanted him to befriend Noah's mom; I wanted him to meet his mom and learn why she hated him.
Because the back cover I read NEVER said that it's two years later. I thought It would be a continuation! But no. Avery is fine, he's healed, he's good and him and Noah are together forever.
Second, it's about... nothing. Really, all that happens is that
Now, the first one had even less than that, but it was a character study or something. It was about Avery wanting to be Noah's boyfriend and winning over his fears at the end. It was adorable and normal and interesting. This? It's filler. I'm putting the spoilers on because I'm not a bitch, but it's really not worth it.
But really my problem is with Sam's 180 heel-turn. IT'S TERRIBLE #mistake. It was the absolute filler for this book that was already too short.
Third, the switching POVs. I HATE when a series that had an established 1st POV character, like the first book, Ice Like Fire or Allegiant, suddenly adds another POV character. Because that really doesn't make it obvious as hell that you're going to kill the MC off. NOT THAT AVERY DIES, because that'd be absolutely ridiculous, but it still gave me that feeling because it's a terrible thing to do, no one should do that and all editors should burn manuscipts that do this. Yes, I hate this THAT bad. That's why 3rd person exists, anf if you have to change your POV in an on-going series, then you've failed at something and shouldn't be allowed to write more until you've figured out what.
It keeps switching between Noah and Avery's perspective because just being in Avery's end would've been so much more boring. Because he's fine! But I don't want him fine! I want him fine at the end! Gah!
This book was a mistake. I was honestly expecting: Avery and Noah having sex for the first time; Avery meeting either his mom or step-dad, or his brothers and confronting the two that way, and learning why she hated him; maybe some more insight about Noah's past with Kaleb and his dad, like he had his own blackness in the first book right? and Avery befriending Noah's mom. Things like that! Not this waste of my time and money!
Two stars because I still like the characters and the dialogues were tons of fun.

There are many times when we finish a book but aren't ready to say goodbye to the couple. We want to know what happens next but are sometimes left guessing. Into the Light isn't that book, in fact, it is the continuation of Avery and Noah's life, it's the "what happens next?" that we so often want but don't get. It is about family, love, strength, and forgiveness. About a man who is overcoming some difficult issues as new ones arise. It's about how Avery has grown from who he was in Out of the Darkness to a strong man who can overcome the darkest times in his life.

Wow! I was so disappointed with Avery. SPOILERS
SPOILERS!!!
The Good:
It's amazing to see how much Avery has grown with Noah and the rest of his hand picked family from "Out of the Blackness (Avery Book 1)." And I loved that he was able to accept his 'Happily Ever After' with strength and love.
This story did not have that tragical beauty of a soul lost but found through love, patience, and compassion that Out of the Blackness had. It's still a lovely tale but it felt rushed and the magic from book 1, for me personally did not happen in this story.
The Bad:
I was beyond disappointed in Avery and my heart broke for Sam. I felt this is the story where Avery, for once, would be the one strong enough to be there for Sam.
Sam was the first and only person for so long to actually accept and be there for Avery no matter what. The way Avery treated Sam, and dismissed him because he was so desperate for new relationships was heartbreaking.
I understand why Avery was pissed at Sam initially but Sam is a cop, and the one person who protected Avery when no one else did, so that alone should have been appreciated by Avery.
Of course it wasn't.
Then, Avery did something that affected Sam horribly, and Avery understood what he did was wrong but does he go after Sam to apologize, does he take a step back to see why or how his actions hurt Sam, does he bother to contact Sam immediately after the incident alone to clear things up?
No, he doesn't!
Sam really needed Avery. When you're human self doubt happens even with the strongest of people and I was blown away with how selfish Avery acted towards Sam.
Avery was too focus on the new that he pushes the old aside and make it about him! Oh, poor me! What did I do wrong blah, blah, blah!
But of course because Avery was so broken in the past, everything is Sam's fault. -roll my eyes-
I lost so much respect for Noah and Avery in this story because I felt Sam deserved better. So, this story did not do it for me and I came away disliking Avery a little bit.
Overall:
It's a great story with a HEA but the way Avery handled Sam was a huge disappointment for me.

This is the second book in the Avery series by Carter Quinn. This is not a standalone novel; readers will have to begin with the first book, Out of the Blackness, in order to appreciate this book. The continuation of Avery’s journey, this book begins one year after the first story ended as Noah and Avery are moving in together. In the past year, Avery has undergone intensive therapy. He’s lived on his own for several months after Sam and Kira got married.
Despite all the progress Avery has made, life happens. Sam and Kira are expecting a child and aren’t sure how Avery will react. When people from his past return to his life, Sam’s reaction threatens to throw Avery off track as his one supporter is anything but supportive of him rekindling that relationship.
What I loved most about this book was that it brought me a sense of peace after having read the first book in this series. The characters I loved were back. I was able to see how far Avery progressed from the insecure, beaten down young man that he was. I was able to finally hear Noah’s voice.
