August 3, 2026This is a sweet, slow burn story that pairs the young, fish out of water Ford with worldly and flirtatious Aiden, in spite of his brother's edicts. While not explicitly mentioned, Ford seems neurodivergent and has sensory issues that impact his life and his relationships. Aiden is persistent and patient and I love the way their story unfolds. As always, the side characters provide both serious and comedic story lines and Granny steals the show...
Best read in order, but could be read standalone if you like.

An Entertaining Series
An entertaining series which needs to be read in order. The brothers, or half brothers, are all brought together after their philandering father’s death. Having all been abandoned by him when they were children they do not have fond memories of him but to inherit anything they have to go to Bastian Acres Ranch.
Baker has been struggling to keep the family ranch from being swallowed up by big corporate farming and the last thing he wants or needs is to find three brothers he didn’t know or need living at the ranch and knowing nothing about ranching but they all work together to save their legacy and build cabins to open the ranch up to guests.
The Bastian brothers are an interesting bunch and come with an assortment of problems and a grandma who thinks she is Annie Oakley and wakes them all at the crack of dawn firing at tin cans which she always misses as her gun is obviously defective🥴
This is Ford’s story. He is the youngest at 25 and comes with a secret back story and a gorgeous best friend Bella. Oklahoma is not the best place for a transgender woman but Bella might be small but she is mighty. Ford and Bella have fled from NY and are hiding from someone dangerous and I can’t wait to find out what happened to them when all is revealed in the fourth and final book.
Ford isn’t wired like other people, his brain doesn’t do chaos and noise, he prefers order and has great organisational skills. His brothers especially Baker are protective of him so when his secret crush, Aiden, Baker’s best friend and the local vet starts taking an interest in Ford Baker starts interfering as Aiden has a reputation. Ford knows he should be cautious but Aiden is to hard to resist and they start to spend more and more time together. Will the lovely Ford be the one to tame the local playboy? Ford certainly deserves a HEA but he would never leave Bella alone and if she has to run again he will be running with her!

Freelance lover to one-man man and a neurodivergent man
I love the twist on “found family” in this book. Because of a philandering father, the Bastian brothers are truly family but never knew of the existence of the others until their father’s death and his will. It seems Cash Bastian bequeathed to his four sons the ranch that had been in his family for generations located in Bastian Grange, Oklahoma. The four half-brothers are getting closer every day but honestly, still learning about each other as well. This book is about Ford who is sweetly different than his brothers: Baker (Studebaker), Lincoln and Dodge. He admits to having ADHD but I also wonder if he might be on the autism spectrum. Regardless, he is one of the most sensitive of them all.
Ford and Bella arrived at the ranch with a big secret. They are running from something that happened back home in Brooklyn, more particularly their Bensonhurst neighborhood. Coming to Oklahoma was like going to the moon! Ford’s innocent sweetness attracts the small-town veterinarian and local playboy, Aiden Hennessee. Can Aiden overlook Ford’s quirky ways; ways that normally distract and irritate other men? Does Aiden have the staying power? Is it worth it to fall in love with Aiden, if Ford and Bella, Ford’s transfemme best friend may need to leave in the dark of night? If any of my review sounds the least bit intriguing, you will really want to read the book. Ms. Locey does a much better job of telling her story.
The next book will be about Linc and Bella who have had an obvious attraction from the beginning. I literally cannot wait! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews.

This book will have you laughing. Especially with Grandma. Ford is different than the other brothers, but he shows compassion and has his own mind about things, especially when it comes to Aiden, the vet. Enjoy the book, but make sure you read them in order, or you won't know what's happening.

That was underwhelming… barely a plot there

Ford is the most secretive brother but at least he brought his best friend and “heart sister” Bella with him to the ranch . You’ve got to love Bella.
You don’t wind up learning many answers about the man as Ford’s book begins. Instead he seems intriguing and seeped in mystery. Answers about the incident marring Ford and Bella’s past weren’t forthcoming either. But as you get to know the sweet and almost certainly neurodivergent man, you can’t help but fall for him.
Bastian Acres Ranch’s veterinarian Aiden Hennessee is the other MC and he is, as Ford reflects, everything Ford is not (by his own self assessment): “Assured of himself, bold, outgoing.” He’s also Ford’s brother Baker’s best friend so the tropes are adding up.
Aiden is a notorious bed-hopper, so all the brothers and Bella are concerned for Ford’s tender heart. But Aiden’s sensitivity and devotion are unexpectedly wonderful and I adored how affirming he is of the way Ford’s brain works.
Other than Bella and Granny, my favorite side character was Lady. Yes, I’m aware she’s a dog but she’s pretty special.
Locey excels at building worlds you want to visit and Bastian Acres is no exception. The people, the animals, the land, the camaraderie … it’s a potent mix. Can’t wait for book four. Maybe Granny will finally hit a target. 5 stars.

I am still enamored with the whole Bastian clan with this book. I adore Ford and his chaotic mind and meticulous ways, his fascination and affinity for his goats and his immediate connection to Lady. He seems more the odd man out at the ranch to me, caring for his brothers, but not really fitting in as well. The mystery has had some clues revealed, but is still very unclear. Aiden is more complicated than I had realized up until now, he has layers to peel away for Ford before they he can fully commit to him, and Ford still has some doubts, too. Hopefully all will be revealed soon.
The world building for the ranch just keeps growing, and we keep learning more about the characters, even after they have paired up. We also keep learning about more childhoods that wrecked havoc with a lot of these men, not just the Bastian brothers, impacting their ability to consider long term commitments and open themselves to love. I look forward to the last installment to wrap up this series. There is a title —Linc— but no clue on when it will be out. Soon, I hope. I want to know the full story with why Bella and Ford had to leave New York. Sounds like that is coming in the next book, yea!
I was quite surprised with the ending, it left me feeling unfinished, hence the 4.5 stars. Up until the end of book3, there had been no hint of a book 4, so I had expected Ford and Bella to both get to their HEA in book 3 since they have been pretty much a duo the whole series, even though falling for someone else, and we knew Linc was interested in Bella. (Even on Amazon, it says book 3 of 3; no indication of a book 4). A book 4 is definitely needed, because even with Ford and Aiden being together a lot, it isn’t as settled as the pairings with Baker and Hanley or Dodge and Ollie. Hope book 4 is out soon so the mystery gets solved and the four brothers are in a good place with the person meant for them, ready to live out their lives on the ranch in Colorado.

Up till now, Aiden has been behaving rather like a man slut bedding most available men in the region. Ford’s interest in Aiden causes friction between him and Ford’s eldest brother Studebaker aka Baker, the subject of the first novel in the series. Given Ford’s very organized mind, he ends up volunteering to deal with Aiden’s chaotic records. We eventually find out that Aiden’s behaviour goes back to his childhood where his mother was an addict who only gave him attention when she was sober.
It’s interesting that Aiden can be Baker’s good friend, but the latter has a substantial problem with Ford dating him due to Aiden’s behaviour. While I saw no specific indication that it’s the case, I’m fairly sure Ford is on the autistic spectrum. He is, however, highly functional so that I have no particular concerns if he is on the spectrum when it comes to his love life. At this point in his life, Aiden is ready to settle down to a monogamous relationship with Ford. He finds that Ford’s mind is a thing of beauty. They really are made for each other. There are several references to what Ford and Bella went through in New York but nothing specific. That we’ll see in the next, and I think, final novel in the series. It’s clear that the brothers are close, despite having only just met, and are fully supportive of each other, as well as Granny who is quite wise, notwithstanding her habit of target practice at the crack of dawn. There’s also a family of homophobic characters who seem to be evil incarnate.

MY OPINION: Already a fan of this series, I was excited to pick up the next chapter. This is a solid series that you will enjoy most if you read it in order. Each book builds on the others, and there are important nuances you need to see to understand where we started and where we are now. Oh, how things have changed.
Ford is the youngest of the brothers who have arrived on the ranch. He came from the city and had no real experience with country life, but something had happened in the past that made moving to the ranch feel like a perfect escape. He brought his best friend with him, and together they have made a life for themselves with the brothers.
Adrian is the local vet and is a bit of a playboy. The oldest Bastian brother has been friends with him since high school and would go to war for him, but doesn’t want him messing with his little brother's feelings.
I really like this family and the world that is written around them. Of course I am a sucker for animals and cowboys, both of which there are plenty of. Ford is a little less hateful about his daddy, and a lot more sensitive than his older brothers. You see plenty of the other couples with a lot of foreshadowing to the final coupling. We are left with a happily-for-now, which I hope gets wrapped up more tightly in the final book. There are a lot of questions still hanging in the air.
All of these characters are winners, and seeing where they are now compared to book one is wonderful. I like these guys, and these books. They are fairly low drama, have some spice, and a lot of love between the couple and the family. Pick up book one and read all the way through book three; you won’t regret a single word.

Third in the Bastian Brothers series, this is Ford and Aiden, the vet's romance.
It's best if these are read in order - the characters from the first 2 books are a major part of the plot in this book, so it doesn't work well as a standalone. When their estranged father dies, the 4 half-brothers inherit the ranch. Baker has been running the ranch this entire time and is not happy to see 3 more brothers here with their opinions - this has been on-going since book 1. Ford has come in from New York, with Bela. They were in some sort of trouble there, and possibly someone might still be looking for them (this is all very vague, and if it was explained in a different book, I've forgotten it - it sure isn't explained in this this book).
Ford is attracted to the local vet, Aiden is attracted to Ford. They start down a mostly physical relationship that slowly becomes more romantic. By the end of the book it seems like more of a HFN than an HEA because Ford's & Bela's issues in New York have not been addressed. I felt like there should have been more to this book - like it ended too quickly - and I sure hope the rest of this is addressed in the next book.
There's goats and a dog, there's Granny and her morning shotgun practice, there's Baker and his obnoxious over-protectiveness, there's Bela and her dress-making. It's medium spice and mainly found family.
I'll be reading the next one because I need to know what happens next.

This book focuses on the developing relationship between Ford - another Bastian brother - and Aiden, the flirty vet who has captured his attention. We learn quite a bit about Ford, but not everything as the reason he and Bella needed to leave home asap is not revealed in this book. As for Aiden, we learn enough about him during their conversations. I liked that Aiden not only understood, but accepted Ford's neurodivergent ways - even though this book doesn't delve too much into this. It's obvious that they form a bond fairly quickly, even though Aiden has a rep for bed hopping. It feels genuine on the buildup to falling in love, but what disappointed me was that as soon as those three little words are spoken, the story ends and it feels as if they get HFN rather than HEA.
I love that all the major players for all books in this series are present in each individual book, including Granny. I don't like that each book, more so with this one, feels unfinished. They are all fairly quick reads as they are between 190 - 225 pages, with this one being the shortest so far.
I really do like this series, the story it is telling and the really likeable characters have such great potential, but it just feels likes they're missing the mark a bit to be fantastic reads.

He has found himself in danger along with his best friend due to someone from her past. However, he wouldn't change a thing. She is his ride or die friend and he would do whatever it takes to protect her.
Aiden is a very hot and sexy man who is also an excellent large animal veterinarian.
He is a self-admitted man whore. who does not do commitment.
A real love 'em and leave 'em guy.
Until he meets Ford.
There is something about Ford that makes him not only stop sleeping around but wanting Ford to come to his home, watch movies and spend the night, whether sexy times are a part of the evening or not.
People start to notice.
Even Ford is a bit shocked. Yes, he agreed to a non-relationship with Aiden since it seemed the only kind Aiden was offering but things started to not line up.
The caring, touches, and protection Aiden was offering either silently or out loud was a bit confusing for all involved. Aiden and Ford.
Soon stuff and things happen. Things are said.
Not going to give anymore away. Loved this new addition to the series.

Ford is the third book in V.L. Locey’s Bastian Brothers series. At twenty-five, Ford is the youngest of the four half-brothers who are brought together when their father dies and leaves them each a share in his ranch. Ford and his best friend Bella arrive on a bus from New York city, without much money, and even less knowledge about working on a ranch. They need to be away from New York and they need to stay on the ranch. Ford is the cinnamon roll of his brothers. He wants to help everyone and wants everyone to be happy. This MM romance was low angst, medium heat, and good, but I liked Ford's half brothers Baker's and Dodge's stories more.
Ford, a twenty something younger Bastian brother, is the narrator of this MM romance. While I liked him, his air of seeming naivety and his quirks, even his eager puppy energy attraction for player, large animal vet Aiden, this was IMO the least convincing romance in the series thus far. There's no clear explanation of why Aiden zeroes in on Ford as the guy who converts him from a constant flirt and player to a one man man. Maybe Ford's single POV was the reason I didn't get Aiden's change of attitude, only the vet's Svengali effect on Ford. The single POV also means that we know little to nothing about Aiden's history or life apart from what he shares with Ford.
Throughout the story a major danger that Ford and his good friend Bella fled by leaving NYC and coming to the Bastian Ranch in Oklahoma is hinted at. I waited for the story to reveal what had happened, but it seems I waited in vain (maybe next book in the series?). I am not a big fan of such cliffhangers.

“Ford” by VL Locey is part of the ‘Bastian Brothers’ series and features Ford, the Bastian brother who was closest to their mutual father. His attraction to Aidan, the family’s large animal veterinarian, has multiple obstacles, but if it’s truly mutual, they will find a way to be together.
This adult gay contemporary romance continues a compelling series that spotlights a lot of charismatic folks. I love seeing those who were spotlighted in the previous stories, and I especially enjoyed getting to know Ford and watching him respond in his distinctive gentle yet forceful way to the various obstacles he encounters. The contrast between his calm nature and his stubborn adherence to whatever he deems important is a beautiful reminder to be true to ourselves, and it was a delight to watch him nurture several important relationships, including the one forged in fire with his beloved Bella. The mysterious thread continues to provide an element of danger, and I look forward to finding out the resolution to this thorny problem. There was a great blend of humor, angst, and romance, and I applaud that the brothers are truly learning to be a family. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

This is the third book in the Bastian Brothers series and it should really be read in order. The series is based on four half brothers, Baker (Studebaker), Lincoln, Ford and Dodge who had no idea any of the others existed. When their father Cash Bastian died, he left the ranch that had been in his family for generations located in Bastian Grange, Oklahoma to all four sons. They are slowly learning about each other and the ranch together. This story features the son Ford and Aiden Hennessee. Ford is sweet and quiet. He also arrived with his best friend Belle. Ford keeps his mind very well organize to avoid chaos and noise. Aiden is the local Veterinarian and Baker's best friend. He also has a well earned reputation of being the king of "one and done". When Aiden needs help with his chaotic files, Ford is the obvious choice. The two start to spend more time together. This is their story. I received a complementary advance review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. The book is well written and easy to read. The story is sweet and fun. I really enjoyed being back with the Bastian brothers once again. I look forward to the next book by this author.

I’ve been enjoying this series about half brothers who each inherited a share of a ranch. Each brother has his own book. I think they each standalone pretty well but you might enjoy them more if you read them in order.

Ford’s brother, Baker, warned him to stay away from Aiden because he’s a one and done kind of guy who really gets around. Aiden never expected to fall for Ford but he seems to be the one that will stop Aiden from moving from guy to guy.
These two are HOT together and I loved that they rescued a sweet dog and named her Lady. She kind of steals the show for me in places. The only thing niggling at me is what is going on with Bella and Ford. What are they running from? I thought we might find out in this book but it looks like we’ll need to wait until Linc, the last brother’s book in this series. The teaser for it at the end of Dodge lets us know that Linc and Bella finally get together.

Ford by V.L.Locey is book 3 in the Bastian Brothers series. I absolutely adore Ford and I wish we had learned a little bit more about his backstory. We can make inferences about what happened and I am sure that it will all be revealed in the last book since it is Bella’s story.
I loved being inside of Ford’s head and seeing how he viewed the world. I wish we had gotten Aiden’s perspective. I feel like we didn’t know much about him except that he slept around and was a manwhore. Which got old pretty fast when it was the only thing discussed.
Why did these two love each other? I understood Ford’s feelings, but I had no understanding of why Aiden was drawn to Ford, what he liked about Ford, etc. Plus the fact that Ford was never honest about what happened back in NYC makes me wonder how that will go down. I wanted to like this one more than I did. Perhaps my mind will change when I read the final book.

A really good addition to the series, the books need to be read in order to understand the dynamics and the background.
I really love Ford and Aiden, it takes them a while to sort themselves out, the ADHD city boy and the player, both have plenty to unpack about themselves and being a couple and it's a lovely romance to read while they explore their feelings.
Poor Aiden has a lot to accept about why he always feels the need to run away from feelings and Ford struggles to accept that someone will love him with all his quirks. But they are great together.
The book is told just from Ford's POV and I sometimes struggled to really get into Aiden's POV. The book also still hides the exact reason Ford and Bella left New York, there are more hints but I am a bit disappointed as it seems Ford would be willing to leave again if necessary but is not confessing to Aiden what really is going on. The ending is more a HFN than a HEA.

I absolutely love this series and love this book. It was absolute perfection. I love the idea of 4/2 brothers. Who’ve never met who suddenly meet on a ranch when their father leaves each of them a fourth of the ranch— it reminds us we can create our own family. Ford and Aiden of course our opposites. Ford left the city for Oklahoma, but he has a secret sorta. Aiden is the local vet who’s never met a man he didn’t like. Avoid relationships at all calls and loves to hook up. suddenly upon meeting Ford that seems to change and he’s willing to stop being noncommittal. This book has great characters, great plot and emotionally tugs at once heart expect lots of ups and downs and as such, I had to know how it finished so I read it in one setting. I love that the previous characters from the Books one and two appear to give us some continuity and again that sense of family one of the best series. I’ve read in a long time.

Since each of these brothers gets his start because of the lack of staying power of their father, it is not surprising that each of them comes with issues. Ford is no different. And he even brought along a friend when he got to the ranch. And they had reasons beyond a partial inheritance for Ford to come to the ranch from Brooklyn. And how neat was it that in addition to finding relationships with brothers he did not grow up with or know and a granny who is a hoot, Ford finds love with the local vet. Up until their chemistry sizzled Aidan was not known for staying with anyone. But these two come to realize that they are it for one another and it was yet another good thing for this band of brothers in need of finding and being able to depend on family and love that stays.

I’m loving this series with its themes of family and found family. I like how the brothers are getting to know each other, and more comfortable around each other, with a good amount of sibling teasing. Ford and Aiden’s romance is sweet, with both having reasons why they’re wary of a relationship.
I love Granny. She’s a force to be reckoned with. Ford and Bella’s friendship is a highlight. I like the way the town are growing more accepting of her, even to the point of standing up for her, although I’m waiting for the bigoted Leary’s to up their game still further, with it up a notch in this story.
Lady steals every scene she’s in. She’s a great addition to the family, which is growing with each book. I’m looking forward to the final chapter of the series, although I’ll be sad when it’s finished.

The set of brothers work hard and pick on each other, but Granny holds everyone to account.
Ford’s brain is different from the others, but he’s special in many ways. In this episode we get some hints of what has happened but not all of our questions are answered.
As always the animals take priority, and we have some injuries. Great care is given to all of them and consequences are doled out.
The hot sexy times for Aiden and Ford burn up the pages. We get serious conversations and humor throughout.
Big hearts prevail.

This is the third book in the Bastian Brothers series. This was another great addition to this series. Since this series revolves around 4 half-brothers that a thrust into a found family due to the death of their father, I knew the main character would be either Ford or Lincoln. I was glad to read Ford’s story, he is the shy one, so not much was known about him from the first two books. I loved the dog in this story and Ford’s insistence that he was a good dog. The characters were well developed and the pace made it hard to put down. I love seeing the characters from the first two books continue in the series. Though this is the third book in the series, I feel it can be read as a stand-alone, but would be better in the series order. I can’t wait for Lincoln’s story.

Ford has remained a complicated mystery, having run to the ranch with his best friend from trouble. The longer he spends there, the more peace he knows. Companionship is the one thing that’s really missing, especially with his brothers Baker and Dodge having found their people.
The flirty vet is a welcome distraction.
Aiden is a flirt for sure. He hasn’t done commitment before, as everyone and their brother has warned Ford about. (and pisses me off to be honest!). Not to mention the assumption that Ford doesn’t know what he wants.
But they just fit. Ford can use some lightness in his life, and Aiden finds he’s pretty good with being settled with the right person.

A book series about brothers is one of my favorite kinds. Ford is the third in this series, which would be best read in order to understand the dynamics. Speaking of dynamics, brotherly teasing is at the top of the list kind of banter for me. Even though these guys didn’t grow up together, they still have the brotherly camaraderie I look for.
The story follows single POV through Ford’s eyes, and as his brain works a little differently, it’s nice to see his perspective. I would have loved to get some insight into Aiden’s thinking to better understand what made him change his philandering ways.
I’m very much looking forward to Lincoln’s story, especially since my curiosity is piqued regarding Bella.

I'm a huge fan of the story where the playboy finally meets "the one" and this story between Ford and Aiden was a lovely version of that. Ford is the youngest Bastian brother and he and his friend are on the run from some folks in New York trying to lay low at the ranch. Ford needs quiet, rountine and organization to function well and the rest of the brothers are protective of him. Aiden, the local vet is a friend of Ford's brother, Baker. Baker knows Aiden's reputation only too well and works to keep them apart so Ford doesn't get hurt. Others in the past have not handled Ford's needs well. Turns out Aiden is the guy who can and watching their relationship develop and Aiden's reformation from playboy to solid, loving supporter is lovely to watch.

I also didn't love the vagueness about Ford's past. I get that it involves Bella too, but surely we could have had the situation explained from Ford's perspective. Gosh, I just love Ford. He's so sweet, questions himself, and is fiercely loyal. He loves animals and is definitely hot for the local vet. Adien has a reputation but has a sweet spot for Ford. I loved watching them navigate growing feelings and all of Ford's brothers. This is such a great found family story. The stories do connect, so while not necessary, it is helpful to read the other books. Ford has a secret (with Bella) that is alluded to but will be revealed in the next book. The world-building is fantastic (Locey always does this well). The story is immersive. I loved watching Ford stand up for himself and what he wants. Super fun read!
