He Did Deliver Me From Bondage: Using the Book of Mormon and the Principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as they Correlate with the Twelve-Step Program

Rate this book
Using the Book of Mormon and the Principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as they Correlate with the Twelve-Step Program This best-selling book is about awakening — becoming a whole new creature in Christ by putting God first, ridding one's self of pride, and developing a relationship with God that is closer and sweeter than any other. It's about being delivered from the bondage of lies, recovered by the Spirit of Truth, Jesus Christ. This study guide assists Latter-day Saints in understanding the principles of the gospel that harmonize so perfectly with the principles in each of the Twelve Steps of addiction recovery. Each chapter is woven around a powerful collection of Book of Mormon scriptures and quotes from latter-day prophets. Thousands of people have already been blessed with increased recovery from otherwise insurmountable problems — addiction, compulsive behaviors, depression, trauma, abuse in childhood or as an adult, as well as the loss of a loved one — by focusing these true principles on their particular challenges. He Did Deliver Me from Bondage conveys a profound testimony that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is equal to any challenge we face.

On the surface this is a book about addiction recovery, but a deeper view of it finds that not just the addict or the codependent person can find value in reading it. In this book, Colleen Harrison draws lines connecting verses of the scriptures, particularly The Book of Mormon, and speaks about addiction recovery. But more than that, she helps define and brings enlightenment to putting a relationship with God and our need for His power and the atonement into our lives. This is essentially a workbook, so it can take awhile to read, process and write your way through it, but for those who are really looking for help, it can provide.

A really great workbook for pretty much anyone to discover the atonement for themselves.

Learned a lot from this book about how the Book of Mormon and Gospel principles can combine with a twelve-step program to assist in overcoming substance abuse, compulsions, and other addictive behaviors. This book implements the Book of Mormon as a tool that can help us overcome any issue in our life by turning to the Savior and allowing His Atonement to work for us and through us.
We all have something we can work on in our lives whether it's something as serious as drugs/alcohol/food addiction or something less intense such as a tendency to shop too much, gossip about others, or just watching too much television.
A great book that will leave an impression on you to improve your relationship with yourself, others, and our Heavenly Father.

Well, this has been quite a run.

I had a fun group of friends that went through this book together, slowly, as more of a class setting. We didn’t have “class” any of the summer months, but off and on we went. It took us about 2 1/2 years to get through the entirety of the book, and what an amazing journey it has been.

I believe reading it with a group gave each of us more perspective, as I learned many things from each group member.

We took turns leading chapters and discussions.

All in all, I highly recommend this book. Basically, it’s for anyone struggling with something. Wouldn’t that include all of us?

This book is a resource to help people recover from addictions and other compulsive behaviors. It is basically a step by step guide to experiencing spiritual recovery through the power of Jesus Christ. It teaches a lot of powerful true doctrine. I highly recommend it to everyone, not just people who are struggling with addictions.
