Philip Anthony Smith has gone and done it again. Every time I pick up one of his books, I tell myself I’ll pace it… and every time I end up flying through it because I simply can’t put it down.
The Woman Between Them is another brilliantly crafted thriller with a storyline that is as clever as it is addictive. Just when I thought I had worked things out, another twist came along and completely changed everything. That ending genuinely had me gasping.
Smith has such a talent for building suspense while keeping the pace relentless, making every chapter impossible to stop reading. It’s one of those books where “just one more chapter” quickly turns into finishing the whole thing.
At this point, he’s become one of those authors I trust completely. If you haven’t picked up one of Philip Anthony Smith’s books yet, take this as your sign—you really can’t go wrong. They’re consistently gripping, cleverly plotted, and guaranteed to keep you turning the pages.

Well Philip is just the gift that keeps on giving with his books! He is up there as one of my favourites & yet again he has given us yet another fantastic book.
I really liked how it was split into different parts & the short catchy chapters of course are a favourite of mine. I also loved how character driven it was & it really made you feel like you were in the story!
I also didn’t even know who to trust at 1 point in the book (& and I love that about a psycological thriller!!)

3.5 starts rounded up. This was one crazy read. It’s new girlfriend vs. mother to the extreme. Dawn wants her son all to herself. She wants what is best for him. Mauve isn’t it. She’s clearly hiding something and not good enough in Dawn’s eyes. But what dark secrets is Dawn hiding? Which woman will come out on top?

The man’s Goodreads page only has one book rated below four stars. His psychological thrillers are so twisty, you’ll need a seatbelt. Blink, and you’ll miss a plot turn. They’re lightning-fast, impossible to predict, and those endings? Prepare to have your mind blown. If your reading life is in a rut, “The Woman Between Them” is the espresso shot you never knew you craved.

Dawn tested my patience early on, but her escalating antics were exactly what kept me glued to the pages. My own mother was very aloof, but there is such a thing as too much motherly love.
Smith loves yanking the rug out from under his readers, turning a helicopter mom and a surprise engagement into something wickedly dark. I devoured ` the story, suspicious of every character. I’ve only scratched the surface here. Trust me, and go in blind! This is one of the most jaw-dropping thrillers you’ll pick up this year. You’ll think you’ve got the twists figured out, but Smith is always one step ahead.

Dawn was easily my favourite character. She was complex, flawed, and often unlikeable, yet completely compelling to read. Maeve was equally fascinating, and my loyalties between the two of them were constantly shifting. Through their dynamic, the story explores obsession, manipulation, control, and dishonesty in a way that was unsettling, captivating, and rich in emotional depth.
While it’s not as dark as some of Phil’s previous thrillers, the narrative leans more into suspense, which suits the premise perfectly. The prologue was chilling and immediately hooked me, and the short, fast-paced chapters and twists made it incredibly bingeable from then on. I finished it in one sitting!
Then, everything culminated in an explosive yet satisfying conclusion that felt carefully planned rather than overcomplicated - which again perfectly highlights Phil’s talent as an author.

I have slightly mixed feelings about this one. I normally love this authors work, however this sadly wasn’t my favourite of his.
The things I liked :
There was a great prologue that got right into the action. Phil always does a cracking job at gripping you from the very first page!
There were short chapters and the book was split up into multiple parts, which I liked.
Things that fell short for me:
This was definitely more of a drama/suspense novel, and felt very different to some of his darker psychological thrillers. In the nicest way possible at times it felt like watching an episode of a soap such as Eastenders 🙈😂
The book being set in Ireland - I didn’t have a problem with this at all, I just struggled to connect with the characters emotionally. Also at times I lost track of who was who in the story (the minor characters), I did skim read some parts too especially towards the end of the book.
There were a few surprises to make you gasp, but in my opinion nothing big or jaw-dropping.
Final thoughts - Overall this was an okay read for me, I’d still recommend giving it a shot if you’re a fan of this authors books, just keep in mind this one isn’t as dark as some of his others.

Haunted by the fire that killed her little sister when she was 13, Dawn would do anything to protect her son, Nicholas, and her marriage to Adam. When Maeve wanders into her yoga studio one day, seemingly in trouble, Dawn feels protective about her. But when Maeve starts to insert herself into Dawn’s life and threatens to become her son’s priority, Dawn becomes suspicious of Maeve’s motives.

Oh my gosh, the twists! The twists! This was such a wild and fantastically fun ride! There were so many jaw-dropping twists and I didn’t see any of it coming, it was really very cleverly plotted and just soooo entertaining!
I can’t go into much detail, but I’ll just say that it’s hard to know who to trust and feel empathy for. I was going backwards and forwards all the time! There are a lot of issues around motherly love, and the boundaries of where that love can go too far and turn into selfish manipulation.
This was definitely one of my favourites of Philip’s so far, and absolutely one to get on your tbr if you enjoy a twisty psychological thriller and authors like Freida McFadden and John Marrs!

The story involves Dawn who has a past involving with fire which has been traumatic for her. Her and her husband decided to move away to Ireland to start a new life there however, not until she meets a young woman by the name of Maeve who randomly turned up at her studio.. that's when things start to unravel and her life becomes a nightmare.
I am utterly obsessed with this new release! It's so fast paced and there's so many twists and turns which lead me to think who I can trust, Dawn or Maeve? You really come to learn to never trust people easily because you don't know who they truly are.
Today marks the day of the release of this book and I am so happy that it's being shared with the world! If you want a really good thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat then please give this one a go, you won't regret it! It's also available on Kindle Unlimited.

Once again this author has done a great job of writing a book that will keep you hooked until the very end. Things I loved about the book were the setting, the quick chapters, the alternating POVs, the story being broken up into parts, and of course the suspense. This one opens up with a prologue that will peak your interest and immediately want to know more. Throughout the story we learn the two main female characters both have secrets and the more we discover will change your thoughts/perspective of each character. One of the best things about this author's writing is he does a fantastic job of having the reader feel something while reading his stories. With this one, my blood was boiling at times. IMO when an author is able to get the reader to feel some sort of way it shows how invested the reader gets in the story and how the author's writing separates them from others. If you are a fan of show The Girlfriend on Prime then this would be right up your alley. Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this ARC and as always I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Dawn was such a compelling main character, and from the very beginning I could feel that something wasn’t quite right. Every time I thought I had Maeve figured out, the story would throw another twist that made me question everything all over again.
I absolutely flew through this book. The tension kept building chapter after chapter, and I loved how the mystery slowly unraveled instead of giving everything away too soon. The family dynamics, hidden secrets, and constant feeling that danger was lurking just beneath the surface had me completely hooked.
The psychological suspense was done so well. I found myself suspicious of almost everyone at some point, and I genuinely couldn’t predict how everything was going to come together. When the truth finally came out, I was shocked in the best way.
If you love twisty domestic thrillers filled with secrets, obsession, unreliable characters, and plenty of “just one more chapter” moments, this is definitely one to pick up. An easy five-star read for me! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maeve comes into her studio and Dawn wants to help her. But Maeve’s story doesn’t add up and Dawn is trying to get her family to see what she does. Adam, her husband, and Nicholas, her son, feel Dawn needs to let it go and let them make their own decisions about Maeve. But then, Dawn feels she is losing control and her life starts to fall apart…is Maeve to blame or is there more going on!?
Another amazing book by Philip!! Just when I thought I knew where it was going, another twist popped up! The book kicks off from the first chapter and doesn’t let up until the very last page! The characters are believable, flawed and really intriguing, with enough of a “do I believe you?” vibe until the last pages. There was one twist I didn’t see coming (and actually messaged Philip to tell him haha!) and the ending was outstandingly executed. Loved this book and couldn’t put it down!!

I love Smith’s writing style and it was no different in his latest domestic thriller which I lapped up in two days. I enjoyed the dual POV’s between Dawn and Maeve and their dislike of one another.
The opening was strong and had me very intrigued. The pacing was perfect and moved at a speed which matched the plot as Dawn’s life started to unravel. There were some twists and turns that were enjoyable and I did guess a big one that I thought was pretty obvious. This book was definitely more suspenseful than a pulse-pounding thriller.
I sympathised with Nicholas so much about who he could believe. He’s life was impacted so much and I was screaming through the pages at him trying to tell him the truth.
Smith has a clever way of keeping you hooked in and did this easily with all the manipulation and secrets throughout. Whilst I enjoyed the ending, it fell flat compared to his other books.

The thing with Philip's books is that they hook you from the first page! I have read multiple now and this one is another banger!
I like Nicholas, Dawn and Adam's son, he's a young man coming home to his family after 6 months away, living a life of his own but he has a surprise to share.
Maeve slots herself into Dawn's life and they clash from the get go. Something doesn't add up but the ins and outs are explored.
I like how clever the writing is, twists galore and I was here for it! This story is definitely bingeable as are Philip's other books. I like how fast paced this is, the suspense builds up when the part truths come out.
Seems everyone has a secret or two, something they kept back whether it was time to tell the truth or not. Hard to tell who to believe, who to trust and who is out for themselves. Great writing!

Philip writes twisty psychological stories that always surprise me at the end. In this story Dawn has experienced some losses in her life that she is trying to work through with therapy at the insistence of her husband. She meets a young woman named Maeve, whom she sees struggling with a man on the street. She also hasn't seen her son for a while. When her son calls and tells her he is coming for a visit she does what any good mother does and starts cleaning. When her son brings his new fiance(guess who) to introduce her, things start to get precarious. Dawn is very protective, so no woman will ever be good enough for her son and she goes down a rabbit hole to prove it. The rabbit hole will turn up many surprises, but not necessarily what you might expect. I highly recommend this book because I love a good twisty thriller and it's even better because it's set in Ireland and Great Britain.

This one was all about lies, lies, and more lies. 😂 I spent so much time trying to figure out who to believe because everyone seemed to have something they weren’t saying. The biggest question while reading was… who is really the villain here?
And honestly? Both of the main characters had moments where I was like… “girl, what are you doing?” 😂 They weren’t exactly easy characters to root for, but I actually think that made the story more interesting. Sometimes the best thrillers are the ones where you’re uncomfortable with everyone’s choices and constantly questioning their motives.
There were parts of this book that were genuinely sad, but more in a “wow, look at the damage manipulation and secrets can cause” kind of way. But by the end… yeah, absolutely NOT. 😂 Another great psychological thriller from Philip Anthony Smith!

I was in a bit of a self imposed reading slump and this whipped me right back out of it - I had so much fun with this one.
I’d say this domestic thriller is probably the one I’ve most enjoyed recently from Philip, I had such a good time.
It’s dramatic, so well paced, full of suspicion, obsession, mounting tension and has a great small set of characters that you’re not quite sure if you can trust.
I didn’t find the twists quite as twisty (I was actively trying to figure them out though 😂) but it definitely didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story and I raced through it within a couple of days.
Not quite sure that this is a compliment, but Philip does secrets, lies and betrayal so well and I always look forward to what’s next!

A totally enthralling story about what would appear to be a seemingly ‘normal’ loving family, but on digging deeper, we find they are anything but.
All is well (or so it would seem) until the son introduces his girlfriend, and so begins the roller coaster of emotions and actions. There are so many twists & turns that kept on surprising me that I just couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Each time I thought I knew what was coming, something entirely different happened. I loved this book; it kept me hooked right to the very end and now that it’s finished I will have to get on, and do all the everyday chores that I have been ignoring.

This is a brand new author for me and I was so happy that I discovered this book just prior to release.
I love finding new authors in one of my favourite genres and absolutely loving the read.
The only problem, I now have a few more books added to my (already huge) tbr ....but what a great problem to have!
I was instantly drawn to this book by the amazing front cover which immediately shouts drama.
Anything that involves exploring a parents' love for their children and anything psychological and I'm hooked.
The instant punch from the prologue guaranteed that I'd be racing through this to find out more and I loved the short chapters and fast pacing.
The story unfolds piece by piece through a multi pov format and was packed with twists - some I did spit early on, but others left me shocked and desperate for more.
The characters were well introduced and developed and I have to admit that I had no clue who to trust and spent a while chopping and changing my opinions on them all.
The writing style was perfect and the tension and suspense builds up through the book.
I loved that feeling of being on edge and wondered what in earth was going to happen next.
This was a brilliant first read and like I said, I've already added more books from this author to my tbr - I can't wait to see what else is in store.

I absolutely devoured this story. Without any spoilers...
The writing, the pacing, the way the tension builds, the characters, it all comes together so well, and in ways I never expected.
I usually find I can piece things together before the big reveal, so I'm not often shocked, but this book genuinely had me gripping my Kindle. There were moments where I could feel my heart racing, and I'd suddenly let out a huge breath because I didn't even realize I'd been holding it.
Such a well-written, well-told story. I highly recommend it.

Omg, had an email asking did I want to read this pre publishing before end of July . Well started it Thursday evening and couldn’t put it down , it was too brilliant . Will not tell u too much of the story but it has so many unexpected twists and turns , couldn’t sleep last night and at one in morning 10% left to read picked my phone up again to finish it. Starts with a young couple after only meeting recently fall in love but Nicholas has a mother that doesn’t or hasn’t ever liked his previous girlfriends ! And the story goes on from there .

How far will a mother go to protect her son? This mother will do anything and everything to protect her son from marrying the love of his life. The book caught my attention from beginning to end. So many secrets are uncovered and the twists and turns kept me rapidly turning the pages to find out what would happen next. The characters are very well developed and my loyalties shifted from one character to another as more and more is revealed about their pasts. The plot was exciting and very well written with a satisfying ending. Well done Mr. Smith!

Dawn is a mother who wants to protect her son from a woman whom she deems unworthy of him. She goes to great lengths to try to do just that. I really enjoyed this book. The writing style keeps you hooked and makes you want to keep reading even when you know you have other things to do. The characters were very well written. You find yourself understanding why they are doing the things they do. I don't want to give anything away, so I will just say I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers with some good plot twists thrown in there. Five stars from me.

The prologue was fantastic and throws you straight into the drama - you can’t beat a prologue like that.
It’s set out in six parts and each one feels more intense than the last. It’s told through the POVs of the two female main characters Dawn and Maeve with a couple of timelines. I didn’t know who to trust in this book, nor did I know who to feel sorry for at times!
As always, we’ve got short and snappy chapters which I love! There was a twist at just over 60% in that had me gasping!
I feel this book leans slightly more into domestic/suspense rather than psychological thriller but that’s fine with me as I really liked it. It felt like it’d be a soap opera!
If you have any content triggers, I advise you to read any trigger warnings beforehand.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers with family drama and tension.
I give this 4 stars!

This is a suspenseful read filled with manipulation, unreliable characters, and unexpected turns. The story does a great job building tension, with plenty of secrets and lies that made it difficult to know who could be trusted. It has a steady pace, and I love that it was in multiple POVs.
