Billionaires in Bondage #1

The Billionaire Submissive

Rate this book
"Lesson one: She makes the rules. Lesson two: Refer to lesson one. "

Donovan Morgan rules his billion-dollar international company with an iron fist. But in the privacy of his bedroom, he hungers for an iron lady to rule his body.

The Mistress.

Lilly Harrison helps her clients tame their personal demons by taming "them." Lots of men-blue collar to white collar-enjoy female domination. But the ultra-rich and powerful CEO is alpha to the core. In public, that is. The challenge will be to teach him that bossy isn't always better.

The Contract.

Donovan selects his potential Mistress as carefully as a prime investment opportunity, and negotiates a contract as tight and binding as any corporate takeover. He must ensure his privacy at all cost-even if he has to resort to a little blackmail to ensure her full cooperation.

His First Lesson.

When the indomitable Miss Harrison laughs in his face, tears his contract up, and walks out without a backward glance, it seals the deal. Donovan will have her. Even if she makes him crawl to her side.

This was somewhat better edited than the other books I read by Ms. Burkhart, but it didn't help the story any.

Firstly, as is practically the rule apparently, we get a prostitute/dominatrix instead of a regular domme. Why that is the case I don't get. She is written as being genuinely into BDSM, and at least up to where I got before I stopped reading, she also didn't switch. So why not make her a domme instead? Is it so hard to imagine a woman could be a femdom without prostitution and the money angle?

Next, there is a wagonload of inner monologue, which together with too much telling, and too little showing ultimately caused me to DNF this book. I was bored to distraction.

For the most part the BDSM was halfway SSC and all put together rather mild, but his submission quickly fizzled out and he keeled over like some lovesick puppy. Indeed, there was both instalust and instaluv present--which I really dislike seeing in longer stories. As far as I read there was one cute idea (the pie), unfortunately that was written in such a distanced manner that despite all those monologues I got no emotion emanating from either.

I said halfway SSC, because you just don't blackmail people with safewords and safewording. This isn't in any way, shape or form a tool to grade trust by. It is a simple measure by which roleplayers (!) are able to indicate a scene should end without "no" being mistaken for that wish. That's all. It is expression of the legal fact that everyone can at every time freely end play. So threatening someone with "I'll beat you up until you safeword" is truly obnoxious behaviour.

On the whole: I was bored, the billionaire parts read like little aunt Sallie imagines their lives, and the BDSM was... again rather rife with very curious interpretations of the lifestyle. This is definitely my last Burkhart, and I need to remember this.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I’ve waffled back and forth on this book for a couple days now and am still on the fence. I didn’t hate it but it wasn’t my favorite JSB. Not by a long shot. It’s cutesy with an undercurrent of cheese running throughout all of which is fine, but these two characters are just… unappetizing.

Donovan Morgan is a billionaire and a submissive that’s also an alpha. Tempting enough proposition. Who doesn’t like a challenge? I also like the role reversal of the power structure idea that this series is centered around.

Donovan contacts Lilly Harrison a.k.a. Mistress L ostensibly to commission her to replace some windows with stained glass and to whip him into shape or just whip him. A red flag went up when he talks of having her investigated prior to their first meeting. He’s thoroughly invested in the belief that she will be the domme for him. And he’s fully prepared to resort to blackmail to achieve his goals.

description

I can appreciate cray cray as much as the next, but this devotion and instalove never made sense to me. They both make rather impulsive decisions and act… silly. Almost like teenagers and these people are in their 30s. He’s always rock hard and on the cusp of jizzing in his pants with his magic peen. She’s slightly better but if she had a cock they’d be crossing the streams. All the time.

description

I found the endearments trying as well as the internal dialogue. Her internal conflict was at times interesting and others corny. The relationship progression was typical Cinderella fodder with him becoming increasingly possessive. But they do have some wild sex. They can’t seem to have sex without destroying a room, so more power to ‘em!

 photo urban-cowboy-2_zps01ygw68j.gif

There’s a certain amount of reality suspension involved whenever I read books wherein one of the protags is a billionaire, gazillionaire, whatever especially when there’s a Cinderella trope involved. Thankfully, the status disparity wasn’t overbearing and the dynamics while in a scene are good. I would’ve liked more depth to the kink in general. But what shown through above all else was that these two are gaga for each other. So good on them.

description

Hopefully the rest of the series will improve but this wasn’t a win for me. 2.5 Stars.

This book has a really strong start but I had some problems with it after a while ( (pretty sure I've said that in 1,000 reviews). When the author sent me the review request, I couldn't help but be intrigued with a billionaire submissive hero. Donovan Morgan may be wealthy beyond all imagination, but he isn't pleased sexually. He craves to be dominated, but hates going to clubs, where he could be recognized or just plain embarrassed in public. So as any wealthy person does, he hires a private investigator to seek out a woman named Mistress L, a name he heard spoken at a club he frequented. SHe is elusive, and no one has seen her at the clubs recently. That is because Mistress L aka Lily, has her own confidential client base that keeps her quite busy.

A stain glass artist by day, Lily charges high prices to give those that crave submission their satisfaction at night. She is professional, with a very strict contract that includes complete confidentiality and no sexual contact. But she is one of the best, and highly sought out. Donovan decides to be sneaky and approach her to do a stain glass window in his building, so he can evaluate her and decide if she is the right dominant for him. But from his first glance, he wants her. Lily is much more distant. Donovan comes off as a bratty rich guy who thinks he can get whatever he wants with money, but that is not how Lily works. But, Lily is attracted to him, something that doesn't happen to her often with clients. So she guardedly agrees to work with him

When we first meet Donovan, we get to learn about who he is and why he wants to find a dominant.

"He wasn't the kind of submissive who would whine and beg and crawl to his Mistress's feet and kiss her toes. No. Donovan Morgan wasn't going down without a fight. The difficulty was finding a Mistress who'd relish the fight as much as him. Someone who was strong enough mentally to bend him to her will, even when he hated every minute of it. Even if he swore he was never coming back. Never giving her what she wanted. She had to be strong enough to make him want to bed his pride to her will. He had to want to surrender.

Lily Harrison might just be strong enough to make me beg.

And I totally believed that Lily is that strong. He goes on further to say he "wants to be conquered" by her. This really made me sit up and take notice. Donovan needs to submit, but with a fight. A big fight. And Lily, when we meet her is so professional and doesn't take any of his bullshit whiny attitude. I loved that about her. He would growl and froth at the mouth, and she would just sit there and let him act like a fool. The build up to when they finally make their 'relationship' happen is very intense and fun. I also liked the fact that Lily isn't normally attracted to her clients, yet she is to Donovan, so she doesn't set up the normal client contract/relationship. She realizes she wants more from Donovan than she allows her normal clients to give her. The boundaries they set up are a little more fuzzy, but realistic.

But then we get to the actual D/s part and the relationship stuff and it fizzled. Instead of this huge battle for submission, we get a little battle for submission. I felt let down in their first scene. I never felt Donovan truly had to be conquered. He submits pretty easily. Maybe it's because he had never had such an experienced Dom and she knew just what to do. But I felt like we were building up to this battle, and I couldn't wait for Donovan to be slowly brought to his knees, but instead he goes down quite quick.

Their romance plays out okay in the second half of the book, but nothing as memorable as the set-up in this one.

This is the first book I have read that had a Domme as the lead female character in the story and a high powered CEO of a multi billion dollar empire as the submissive and that was only one of the reasons I was drawn in right away.
Donovan and Lilly are great together, I was rooting for them right from the beginning but they each had their hang-ups and had to push past their fears to get what they wanted.

While this was the first book I have read by Joely Sue Burkhart it won't be my last.

Lesson one: She makes the rules. Lesson two: Refer to lesson one. - A woman after my own heart.

I really enjoyed this story. It made a nice change to read about a billionaire on the receiving end of a spanking; one who was willing to take it like a man ;)

While the story was well written and edited, I did struggle with the amount of internal dialogue from both main characters.

Donovan Morgan is the typical billionaire CEO and alpha male that is so common in erotic fiction these days. What is not so common is that Donovan is a sexual submissive. Although he knows what he desperately needs from a mistress he has yet to find a woman strong enough to truly control him. Lily/Mistress L is a stained glass artist and professional dominatrix. She works with a very small group of carefully selected submissives and only offers domination with no sexual conduct. Lily maintains two very distinct lives, one as Lily the stained glass artist and two, Mistress L, professional dominatrix. She is very careful to never let Mistress L’s clients get a glimpse of Lily and to never let people in her day to day life know of her secret desire to dominate men.

Donovan initially offers Lily two contracts, one for a stained glass project and one to be his professional mistress. After much disagreement the stained glass contract gets signed and the other contract torn in half. Despite tearing up his contract Lily agrees to see Donovan personally to see how things work out. From there they enter in to a D/s relationship with Lily calling the shots in the bedroom and the two competing to see who calls the shot outside of the bedroom.

This is only my second attempt at full length femdom. Overall I liked the book, and found it a nice change from the billionaire dominant books that have become so common since Fifty Shades of Grey. Both characters were likeable and the internal and external dialogue was well written. I did have a bit of a problem with the pace of the book. Both characters were very guarded in their professional and personal lives and insisted on very strict D/s contracts. Neither liked the others contract so they just threw them out and forged on in a personal relationship rather than professional. Given how tightly Donovan clung to his secrecy and Lily to her professionalism that seemed to happen a little too quickly. Then Donovan kept pointing out to Lily what a challenge he was going to be, but almost immediately fell to his knees in submission. Donovan also seemed a little too quick to give up his secret. He was so desperate to keep his needs secret in the beginning that he was willing to be miserable rather than seek out someone to fulfill his needs, but by the end he didn’t care who knew that he was Lily’s submissive and even scened in front of a couple that he knew nothing about. That all just seemed like too big of a change for me in such a short time.

Despite my issues I enjoyed the book and would recommend this to anyone looking for femdom, or even someone just looking for something outside the usual M/f scenario.

Yea, I wasn’t sure how much I was going to enjoy a male submissive until I started reading this book. Joely Sue Burkhart brought me to heel right from the beginning of this story and I cannot wait to see where she brings us in the Billionaires in Bondage series.
Donovan was amazing right from the beginning. He knows what he wants and needs and he will not stop until he gets the Mistress of his dreams by his side. But, Lily is the biggest challenge of his life. She does not bend to his will in or out of the bedroom. Of course, he doesn’t want her to bend in the bedroom but that does not mean that he won’t tell her exactly what he wants outside of it.
Mistress Lily bows to no man in or out of the bedroom. She’s made a name for herself in both her personal and professional life. Not everyone will become a client of Mistress Lily and, if they do, it will be on her terms, with her contract and only on certain days and times. Until Donovan. She finds herself breaking all of her own rules with him and becomes a willing player in his game.
Donovan will never let her go. Lily has to decide between the life she had and the life that could be by Donovan’s side. Neither one of them counted on “love” coming into play. Neither one of them counted on a betrayal being the one thing that brings them together, forever.
I was enthralled with Joely Sue Burkhart’s writing and this story right from the beginning. There was no down time in this book and there was no shortage of hot, steamy love scenes. Yes, there is Cherry Pie involved at one point and some other interesting and imaginative use of food stuff … lots of canes, floggers and red stilettos. Enough to keep the juices flowing and the pages turning …. Enjoy!

lol I debated between giving this book 4 or 5 stars ... and I think this is my "political statement" that I think the rating should overall be higher? (Especially after skimming others)

ANYWAY - I LOVED FREAKING LOVED that the hero was a billionaire and the ~submissive. So much more in touch with reality.
Didn't looove all the domme stuff but I could get on board with it (I can appreciate something without liking or loving it.)

There were some spots of course that I took issue to, but I really liked how devoted the hero was from the start, and that the heroine had her own life, career, etc.

The whole "I can't ever let go" was a big overwrought, but I totally loved this book and wish there were more like it out there. Yes.

A-

2019 re-read probably B... B+?
[I actually stalled on the re-read for a bit so I'm not actually entirely sure when I finished it... guess I forgot to update in GR so doing it now 1/2/20 actually...]

All in all, it was good—but being good isn’t good enough, right? For a book to get more than two stars, it has to make me feel something. Anything. Sadness, anger, happiness, giddiness, or best of all, heat. Unfortunately… nothing.

The entire plot revolved around Lily and the Mistress realizing they could be the same person and still love—and be loved by—this arrogant, puffed-up billionaire. Cute in theory, boring in practice. And his constant, never-ending, rock-hard obsession? It killed the vibe. If you’re going to make your characters act like horny teenagers, then just make them teenagers.

And desperation? Not a good enough excuse, especially when I never saw him actually suffer. Without the struggle, his neediness and desperation just didn’t hit.

I should be ashamed. I am not sure why Ms. Burkhart is still so kind go me. I just realized i read this book in 2014 and I not only didn't rate it, I didn't review it. I am a bad bad girl.

I am a huge fan of Ms. Burkhart. When I saw this title and her offer for me to read it, I must say, I hesitated. Because, I am not a fan of super rich men getting their way... blah blah blah. I mean at this point in my life, reading this type even if it is something many readers want to read, I just don't. I must also confess. whispers -* I never read the book blurbs for Ms. Burkhart*. I realize she must spend time getting just the blurb right to entice a potential reader. For me, I am not a potential reader. I am a guaranteed reader. I like going into her books cold. I do not want to know what the book is about, I just trust her to take me along for a good ride. It is like going to those restaurants where you don't order from the menu. You go to the chef's table and the chef picks out the dishes for you. Ms. Burkhart is of the same high class caliber.

I loved this book. I loved the characters. Donovan and Lilly are unexpected and I truly enjoyed how they interacted. I like Lilly as a dominant. Since I didn't read the blurb, I had no clue she was going to be the dominant bring Donovan to heel. She does it so well. The D/s in this story just makes my body hum in excitement. For those who are looking for developed characters, good plot and great BDSM representation, this book is for you.

I thought this was great. And I'm so not usually into books with female doms [have decided, as ever, not to ask myself what that says about me] but this totally worked. Great sex and amazing dirty talk. The writing was fluent and the plot ticked along nicely. I have a criticism and that's that it was all too neat. It was a bit too easy for these characters to work it out and fall into their kinky HEA. Given Donovan's hang ups about it and Lilly's strange unable to let go control issue (which never seemed fully developed) there was a lot that could have been explored. I felt like the author established these issues and then magically papered over them. It removed any bite from the book and prevented this from being higher than a 4 star read for me. But, you know what, it was thoroughly enjoyable all the same. I Liked Lilly and I like Donovan and I liked them together. I raced through the book in a few hours. It was well written and it did truly feel like a BDSM romance, which, let's face it, in this genre and in this sub-genre, is pretty impressive.

**Have all the GODDAMN STARS** Everything about this book was ON POINT. Er'thing. So freaking good. I find there's not enough Domme/sub books out there that delivers what I want...which is something that's not freaking mechanical and reads like a manual. This was some smooth deliciousness. And lucky for this reader I already snatched up book two.

Ooh. Found another star in my back pocket *pelts it at the author* Yaass, that's an extra one for you, bae. 'Cause you werked it.

THIS IS THE REPRESENTATION I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!!!
Ok so as someone who's a sexually dominant female (domme), I have forever been looking for a BDSM related book with a female dom and male sub dynamic. Let's be honest almost every heterosexual erotic book- from wattpad fiction to published books- always give us the dominant, assertive male and submissive female ( if you like this dynamic, no offense). But if I had to read one more, I will scream.

I decided to resort to googling books and this came up. The description drew me in and I decided to read.
The book is about a dominatrix- Lily or Mistress L- meeting a submissive man- Donovan.
At first look Donovan seem like a rich cocky alpha male but he is secretly a submissive man who wanted to hand over control to the right person. After searching for a long time, he finds Lily and they set up a BDSM contract.

Things start to develop and it's much more than just sexual feelings. Donovan wants to completely and wholely belong to Lily.
I'm extremely satisfied with this book and I want more representation like this, media tends to paint dommes in a bad light and it's refreshing to read a book that gets it right.

If you're a fan of this dynamic, I definitely recommend it.

In general I liked the character dynamics -- the power imbalances in most of the billionaire romance scene kind of bother me, and I liked how this book addressed the issue and how the author took the trope and made the heroine the Domme and the hero the sub to balance things out a bit, in what seemed like a playful way.

It did seem a little magically perfect in places, but if you're a fan of sweeter romances that might be ok with you. If you're a fan of darker romances, this might not do it for you.

It didn't seem to have the intensity of some of the other Burkhart romances I've read, but the worldbuilding was a lot easier to understand than her PNRs usually are.

This is one of the best BDSM books I've read, and the absolute best with a female dom/ male sub dynamic.

I enjoyed Donovan and Lilly's story and I liked that there was an exploration of Lilly and Donavan as people outside their d/s relationship.

Lilly and Donovan fall in love not because they are the perfect d/s couple but that is a facet of their relationship. They spend time out of their persona's and actually connect as regular people something I enjoyed with their coupledom and also just because it is so rare.

Pleasant surprise!

Billionaire Donovan Morgan is an Alpha in the boardroom but he's secretly a submissive in the bedroom. His only problem is finding the right Mistress to submit to. When he has his PI research the elusive Mistress L and track her down, he'll do anything to hire her.

Lilly Hamilton is an artist known for her stained glass art work and her private life being Mistress L helping people submitting to their desires. But she NEVER has sex with her clients.

When Donovan hires her to do the artwork for his newest building, he also tests her out as a Mistress. He also assumes so many wrong things about her. He thinks that she's been sleeping with every client she has. So he's willing to pay her $100,000 a month to drop everyone and only sleep with him. She's hurt at first at the assumption, then laughs in his face and walks away from him. But he refuses to take no for an answer.

His arrogance is his downfall. Soon he'll be crawling on his knees to Lilly for the submission and acceptance only she can give him.

Good story.

What a great series. I am reading them out of order based on my interest level but find that I actually like them all.
This book was sexy with an experienced curvy mistress and a stubborn, proud, billionaire sub.
Even if BDSM is not your thing, these books explain a lot while telling compelling stories. You can learn why it is a turn on to so many while still enjoying the dynamics of the romantic story.

I really liked that what causes friction in so many romances, pushing away or a big understanding, is not utilized here. It is much more original and unique to the story and relationship.

This story was compelling and super hot!

SUPER FAST REVIEW:
Sexy, kinky and graphic yet also tasteful, emotional and with a plot that works as not only erotic romance but also drama. I liked that.
Admittedly it is not quite great IMO as there were some issues, main one being that I didn’t care for the characters (except for a dog that’s in a few scenes... don’t worry, not THOSE scenes).
The decent and surprisingly tasteful plot mixed with the exciting sexy stuff throughout made this an interesting, entertaining read so liked it.

I really love Mistress L in this book! For once a mistress is still a good mistress and can still have control and doing amazingly naughty things to her sub without having to have her life all put together and perfect all the time. That’s one thing about other Domme/sub books that annoys me, as if a woman can only be a domme if she is absolutely perfect and in control at all times and in all parts of her life. That’s unrealistic and I’m glad this author doesn’t do that. Also, I absolutely love their relationship!

One click now! Best book ever

I absolutely loved this book. When I bought I dint except this brilliant story. The FMC was all the things a mistress will be but many more I loved how respectful and drove for satisfaction in every way. The Male lead was not to dissapoint either he was amazing, sweet, powerful, caring and alpha male when he needed to be. It was a perfectly balanced relationship that swooned me and scrotched my sheets because it was Hawt.

Now this was good! I put off reading it because I’m cheap and only read books on Kindle Unlimited but this was worth the purchase.
Dialogue was odd and unrealistic at times which took me out of the story ; however, I appreciate how both characters were mature and I love that the MMC knew what he wanted from the get-go and didn’t have to get over his rigid view of masculinity.
