Bound Maiden : Daphne's Chase
Daphne has spent her life running wild beneath the moon, bow in hand, hound at her heels, determined to give herself to no man. Daughter of a river god and sworn in her heart to Artemis, she wants only the hunt, the forest, and the freedom of her own untouched body.
Then Apollo comes to Arkady.
Golden, arrogant, impossible Apollo, god of the sun, of prophecy, of poetry, of plague, who has chased many lovers but kept no love. He arrives to slay a serpent, but it is Daphne he catches in his shining rope. Furious, humiliated, and unwillingly enthralled, she discovers a hunger in herself no vow to Artemis has prepared her to face: the desire to be bound.
But Artemis does not forgive broken vows. And when gods make war over the body of a woman, even love may not be enough to save her.
This is a dark romantic, explicit, BDSM retelling of the myth of Daphne and Apollo, told in the nymph's own voice. It contains explicit content, including bondage and mythic violence. It is intended for mature readers.

About the author
Eva Darcy
2 books26 followersI am a writer of dark erotic romance with a grad degree in history, who used to teach Western Civ. (I may have secretly spent too much time teaching time dreaming about the stories behind the ancient stories...)
I began with Persephone because her myth has always resonated so strongly with me. When I saw Bernini's "Rape of Proserpina" statue in the Borghese Gallery in Rome, I knew I had to write her story.
I intend to tell more stories in this world, so expect more cross-over characters in other (stand-alone) BDSM-flavoured romance novellas.
Next up? Apollo and Daphne's rope story. Coming September 1

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I went back and forth on rating it 3 or 4 stars, and ultimately decided on 4. This book was good, but there are reasons I went back and forth. We will get to those…
First, let me point out, this is the second book in a trilogy. I did not read book 1, nor did you need to in order to enjoy this one. This book follows the tragic story of Apollo and Daphne. Listen, I’m a sucker for Greek mythology. I spent more time in Athens, (as a tourist), than anyone recommends, especially when you think of all the beauty Greece has to offer. So, when I read this description, I knew it would be up my alley. It’s modified from the tale we know and of course, it’s also listed as Erotica so there’s A LOT of spicy time added, but it still keeps to the original theme. I liked that and much preferred Darcy’s ending if I’m being honest.
That said, let’s talk about what I didn’t care for. This book was too short in my opinion while still achieving the incredible feat of being slow in the beginning… the irony does not escape me. The banter that was in here was bantering, but that was my issue, there just wasn’t enough of it. The spice… yes, there was enough. I won’t say too much spice because come on, you know what you’re getting into with Erotica and nothing upsets me more than reviewers coming up with poor ratings for “too much spice”. Your preference is Romance not Erotica at that point.
Which brings me to my next point, the romance. The romance was soooooo good, I just wanted more. It started so fast. I wanted more development because once they realized they loved each other, YES, SWOON, wreck my heart here!!!! I loved the romance but again, it just wasn’t long enough! I needed more.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it for people who like this genre. Also, don’t let the content warnings scare you. I feel like you blink and you miss some of the things referenced. If you trigger easily, maybe you’ll feel differently but, I personally was thinking, “when are we getting to…”, and it didn’t feel like it ever came.
4 stars!

There’s nothing I love more than a fierce, strong woman, Greek mythology, and all the spice! The banter was absolutely fantastic, and the chase? So. Freaking. Good.
The spice, the yearning, the absolutely insane chemistry… delicious! I was completely hooked from start to finish. This was a captivating adventure that will leave you breathless and desperately wanting more!
Don’t mind me, I’m just going to take a little walk in the woods… Hopefully, I don’t get tangled up in a golden rope. 😉🏹✨

I received Bound Maiden as an ARC and, honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed this one — the kind of enjoyed where you sit down to read a chapter and suddenly realise you’ve finished the entire book in one sitting!
Overall, I thought this was a really well-written and captivating story. There were some particularly beautiful passages, and the plot kept me hooked from beginning to end.
I hadn’t read the first book in the trilogy before starting this one, but thankfully that didn’t impact my enjoyment at all. I actually really appreciated that this book could be read as a standalone. Sometimes having interconnected standalone stories within a trilogy is such a refreshing approach.
Greek mythology fantasy isn’t usually my go-to genre, but I found myself really enjoying this retelling. Not knowing the original myth actually made the story even more intriguing because I had no idea what to expect or where things were going. I also really loved that the author included the original myth at the end of the book, allowing you to compare the two versions. And I can confirm… I definitely prefer the author’s version!
There were, however, a few things that didn’t quite work for me.
My biggest issue was Daphne’s character development. She begins the story as such a strong and capable FMC, albeit a little naive, and I really enjoyed getting to know her. Because of this, I found it quite frustrating to watch her character deteriorate as the story progressed. I wanted more from her development, particularly towards the end.
I also felt that the final major scene was quite rushed. Given everything Daphne had experienced throughout the book, I wanted to feel her desperation and emotional turmoil much more strongly. Unfortunately, I don’t think the scene quite captured the intensity that it could have.
Despite those criticisms, I genuinely enjoyed Bound Maiden. It was an engaging and unexpected read for me, and I’m definitely intrigued enough to continue with the rest of the trilogy.
Overall, a really enjoyable Greek mythology retelling with a compelling story and an interesting take on the original myth.
Would definitely recommend to fans of fantasy, mythology retellings and standalone stories within a series.
Thank you to the author/publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"I loved him best of all. But this is different. I would have moved the world for him. For you, I would burn it down."
----------------------------------
Daphne is a nymph who has spent her life dedicated to Artemis, refusing marriage and becoming a huntress. Enter Apollo and Eros, who show up to hunt the monster she planned to slay. And we know how this goes, Eros strikes them each with an arrow, Apollo to loved Daphne and as we know for Daphne to refuse him. But that's not the full story. Daphne refuses Artemis after Apollo traps her to prevent her from hunting. When the whole night passes and her goddess has not rescued her, she realizes she will never be a huntress for mistress moon. As she explores her sexuality and traversing new feelings, she learns more about what she wants from herself and what others want from her.
----------------------------------
I absolutely love this rendition of Daphne and Apollo. It gives a new dark twist to an originally tragic story that makes it deliciously sapphic. This series has been my first dip into an erotica esque book but Eva did a great job with it. Daphne really works through her opposition to men in terms of freedom and what that means for her. Apollo learns to be less selfish and a man whore, willing to give his life for her.
I really enjoyed the exploration of freedom and love, how they may be opposed but can still coexist together. The development of Daphne and Apollo was very well done, not feeling rushed even though it was a quick romance. Definitely one of my top Greek myth retellings!

Thanks to #netgalley and Eva Darcy for selecting me for this ARC in exchange for my honest review! 🏹🤍
I love Greek mythology so, knowing a lot of these tales don't always have happy endings I was a bit angsty about this retelling. Even though I like my books a little dark and depraved; I am a true sucker for HEA's. I must say I didn't experience this version as dark necessarily, not that that was missing. The spice was definitely spicing! The ending was just as I had hoped.
Overall it was a refreshing and magical adventure, easy to get lost in. The banter was delightful, the characters well portrayed. Daphne was a strong-willed and fierce fighter, I admired her persistence and determination. Apollo's (dry) humour and devotion were swoon-worthy even. Wonderfully done.

Thank you for the opportunity netgalley to review this advanced reader copy of the book.
I was not familiar with the myth of Daphne and Apollo but I throughly enjoyed this telling of the story. There was hard to get and some chasing and the build up as the romance and chemistry grew between the characters. You had a real sense of who they were.
Then there was a fair bit of spice peppered between this short story. It was not smutty and kept in line with the writing style of the story. It was well written and perfectly placed.
Then there was the elements of trh chase and then the pain of losing one , how love can affect you and decisions that are made. So much crammed into these page. I would definitely recommend to those who like mythology , those who like fantasy and romance or those just looking for a little spice on their pages.

Absolutely stunning mythology retelling. I was hooked in becuase of the spirit of the FMC. She was so thoughtfully crafted. This is a read that is as spicy as it is emotional. I had such a wide and deep range of emotions reading this, and truly a perfect reading experience. I will be buying a trophy copy for my bookshelf and revisiting this for the foreseeable future. When I finished reading I was left with goosebumps and full body chills. I truly recommend this read and have been inspired to explore other works by this author.

Wow—talk about a sizzling romance! This beautifully written novel offers a wonderful, unique twist on a Greek tale that kept me hooked from the very first page. The story flows effortlessly with incredible pacing and lush, descriptive language. I was instantly drawn to the lovable characters and their journey. It is a total page-turner that I devoured in just one day! From start to finish, it is a lovely, deeply enjoyable romantic story. Eva Darcey has a new fan, and I'm eager to dive into the rest of her books. 5 stars! 🎉

A beautifully written, intriguing and masterfully planned mythology retelling that left me sobbing. I was lucky to recieve this as an arc and I just truly fell in love with the FMC. She is everything I wanted and more. I loved reading this

This was an extremely dark and very spicy retelling of Apollo and Daphne. Please check your trigger warnings, as it leans in heavily on some topics that aren’t necessarily for the faint of heart.
I enjoyed this book for the characters, quick pacing, enemies to lovers trope, and banter. I also love a man (god) who would burn the whole world down for her.
Eva Darcy does a great job leaning into the darker themes, and although there was a lot of explicit content I didn’t feel like it was too much like some books can be. It explored power dynamics and Daphne kept true to herself throughout the book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I always hate being one of the first people to leave a review not raving about a book, but here we are. Did I enjoy this book? Yes. Did I love it? No. Because while there were definitely some hot moments and it did have a good story, there were also times where I was bored enough with it, or what was happening was so tedious, that I would speed read thru sections just to get thru it. I didn't really feel one way or another about any of the characters, but I was surprised with how much of a bitch Artemis was here. Admittedly, I don't know much about Apollo and Daphne's myth, so I can't judge what the story did with that.
Daphne is the daughter of the water god and a nymph, but she is a free spirit. She lives her life contrary to all the females around her and instead spends her time in the forest hunting and praying to Artemis to make her a handmaiden. When a giant serpent shows up and starts killing villagers, her father seeks the help of the gods, but Daphne is going to prove herself worthy and kill the beast first. And she almost does.
Apollo is exactly as Daphne has heard. An arrogant and proud womanizer, Apollo thinks he is saving a clueless female when he attacks the serpent first. So he doesn't understand the fury that is thrown at him instead of gratitude. Intrigued by Daphne, but annoyed she has pledged herself to his sister, Apollo ties her up and forces her back to the village so that she will stay out of the way of his hunt. Needless to say, she does not.
Having to bind her to a tree to keep her from the hunt, Apollo is not prepared for what she looks like when he returns. Daphne has prayed and sacrificed to Artemis for so long, yet in her one moment of true desperation, she was completely ignored and that has broken her. Good thing Apollo is there to make her feel all better. In so many ways. I did enjoy the two of them together, they worked well as a couple for me. And it didn't seem forced to have these two falling in love with each other in a matter of days despite knowing that their time together will have to come to an end. An end that comes sooner than expected and from an unexpected person. Now Daphne's life is in immanent danger from more than one direction and she only has one person she can ask for help. Though getting to him might also kill her. While Daphne manages to carve out a content sort of life, Apollo has been doing everything he can to find her and to figure out a way to protect her. So he was definitely surprised and angry to find out what she had been up to while he was running himself ragged for her. A huge misunderstanding from a deliberate lie has more bad things befall Daphne. But it also gets her something she never dreamed would be hers. The ending was....weird? I'm not sure how I feel about the whole tree thing (was that part of the myth?) and I thought calling for her father was supposed to be to call him to help her, not....that.

Bound Maiden: Daphne’s Chase by Eva Darcy flips the script on traditional antiquity by handing the baton to a fierce, archery-loving river nymph who wants nothing to do with divine romance. Living on her own terms in Arkady, Daphne is entirely focused on hunting and keeping her sacred vow of chastity under the moon goddess (Artemis) until an unexpected showdown with a huge, invisible leviathan throws her directly into the path of Apollo. When the cocky sun god uses a magical golden rope to hold her fast, this encounter prompts a deep internal shift that completely restructures her sense of identity. This choice sparks immediate retribution from a vengeful deity, as a supernatural affliction begins withering Daphne’s vital energy and forces a desperate sprint toward sanctuary with Eros at his mountain fortress. In a world controlled by vindictive immortals, can a hunter running out of time find a way to claim her true survival?
Eva Darcy’s Bound Maiden: Daphne’s Chase is a sizzling dark mythological tale that offers a fascinating look at the psychology behind vulnerability, consent, and power. The writing is raw and enticing. The character interactions are intriguing, showing how emotionally surrendering to someone can open the door to genuine safety and trust when you’re with the right partner. The plot gets a huge boost from the captivating histories of the gods, including the tragic backstory of Hyacinth, which entirely changes how you view Apollo and softens his arrogant personality with genuine sorrow. The book is absolute gold when it gets into the characters’ heads, tracing an emotional arc where finding your footing in a relationship becomes a deliberate step toward choosing your own independence. It is a refreshing look at self-discovery that reveals how true strength can emerge when a person finally stops fleeing from their deepest fears. Very highly recommended.

There's something quite wonderful about an author who really knows their source content, loves it, and then joyfully breaks it in pursuit of a great story. That's what Eva Darcy has done in "Bound Maiden." I love my Ancient Greek myths, and this one has all the elements, adapting the romance while staying true to the original myth in every way. Really an admirable balance. One of the tricks when writing historical (or mythological?) fiction is maintaining voice to situate the characters in their long-ago time, while also not boring the contemporary reader. (Most of us, alas, are not about to sit down for some sexy relaxation time with Homer's original retellings, circa 500BC or something.) The dialogue and descriptions did feel old-fashioned, but appropriately so, as part of a detailed, authentic, and well-developed setting. While occasionally a bit awkward, for the most part I felt transported to Daphne's world and -- needless to say -- completely appreciative of Apollo's godlike charms.
This is the first story I've read from this author, and I'm very much looking forward to more. Greek myths have stood the test of time for a reason, and with this new interpretation there is plenty of spice to enjoy while brushing up on your mythology studies. I was fortunate to receive an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"...and I turn toward him still."
As someone who loves mythology, I was immediately intrigued by this spicy retelling of Apollo and Daphne. Eva Darcy takes a familiar Greek myth and transforms it into something dark, seductive, and surprisingly character-driven. I really enjoyed Daphne in this version. She's strong-willed, independent, and refuses to give up her autonomy, making the push-and-pull between her and Apollo much more compelling than the original myth. Their banter was entertaining, and the enemies-to-lovers tension kept me invested throughout. This is definitely on the darker side, with consensual BDSM elements woven into the romance. Those scenes fit the dynamic between the characters and never overshadowed the emotional development. The chemistry was intense, and the pacing kept the story moving. If you're looking for a Greek mythology retelling that leans into romance, power dynamics, and plenty of spice, Bound Maiden: Daphne's Chase delivers. Just be sure to check the content warnings beforehand, as this is very much an adult, explicit retelling.

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book directly from the author. This review was voluntary, and all opinions are entirely my own.
I went in already loving Persephone's Fall, so my bar for book two was high. Daphne's Chase cleared it easily.
Daphne isn't the girl running scared from Apollo the way she is in the original myth. She fights back from page one, and Darcy makes you believe every bit of that anger is earned. Apollo doesn't get an easy pass either. He actually has to change before Daphne even considers him.
The spice lives up to what Darcy's been promising in her captions. There is absolutely no fading to black, no soft-focus euphemisms. The scenes are explicit, intense, and written with real skill. That's one of Darcy's greatest strengths as a writer for me. This is very far from the Greek mythology most of us grew up reading, and that's exactly why I so enjoy what she's doing with these stories.
I can't wait for book three of the trilogy!
If you want your Greek myth retellings very dark, very explicit, and with a woman who actually gets a say, read this one.
Highly recommended!

I absolutely loved this book! The enemies-to-lovers romance had everything I wanted—banter, tension, love, yearning, heartbreak, and just the right amount of spice. I was completely hooked and ended up staying up all night reading because I couldn’t put it down.
I especially loved how the author portrayed Daphne and Apollo. Their dynamic was so entertaining, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop. The chemistry between them was fantastic, and the emotional moments really pulled me in.
My only wish is that the romance had been a little more drawn out. I would have loved more time for the enemies-to-lovers tension to build and, especially, more banter between the two of them. I honestly could have read so much more of their interactions!
Overall, this was such an enjoyable read and one that completely sucked me in. I definitely recommend it if you love enemies-to-lovers, witty banter, yearning, heartbreak, and plenty of spice.
🌶️ Spice: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Spicy, Addictive, and the Apollo Retelling I Didn’t Know I Needed!
As a huge fan of Greek mythology, I’m always looking for a good retelling, and Bound Maiden: Daphne’s Chase completely delivered. Eva Darcy takes a tragic myth and turns it into something empowering, romantic, and spicy.
My favorite part was Apollo’s characterization. If you love the arrogant, radiant, impossibly confident, dangerously charming version of Apollo, you’re going to have a LOT of fun with him. His chemistry and banter with Daphne were fire from the start, and the tension between them was so addictive.
The romance also does a great job balancing heat with trust and emotional vulnerability, which made their relationship feel more meaningful than just the spice.
It’s a quick, fast-paced read with a great Greek mythology atmosphere. If you’re looking for mythology, banter, high heat, and a fresh take on a classic story, definitely add this to your TBR!

Thank you to Pomegranate Seed Press and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced digital copy. All opinions are my own.
I love a good Greek mythology retelling and I haven't read too many Daphne and Apollo stories before. The story was a little slow at first, but picked up quickly. The was plenty of spice, but what really stood out was the romance. It was SO good and I wish there were more of it. I also really enjoyed the banter and similarly wish there were more of that too. Overall, I enjoyed this story and think others who like this genre will appreciate it as well.
A quick note that this is book 2 in a series. I didn't realize that until after I read the book, and had no trouble picking things up.

I enjoy retellings of Greek mythology, and this story about Daphne and Apollo was a delightful find. Although it started slowly, the pacing quickly improved, and the romance was fantastic—I just wished for more witty banter.
For those who appreciate Greek mythology with bondage elements, this story is ideal. Daphne realizes she wants more than being the perfect maiden when captured by Apollo.
This standout erotica is steamy and maintains a quick pace without unnecessary details. It explores heavy themes, so check for trigger warnings. I loved the characters, the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, and the engaging dialogue. Eva Darcy skillfully navigates the darker aspects while keeping Daphne true to herself.

If you’re into Greek myth, and/or bondage, this story is perfection. In it Daphne, who perhaps always suspected she wanted to be more than a perfect, pure maiden, is captured by Apollo – and, let’s be honest. We all know what’s going to happen next from reading this novel’s blurb.
Not all erotica does it well. It’s a HARD genre to get right, IME. But this is absolute perfection, IMO. Steamy, sexy, intimate and evocative. You feel those knots worming their way somewhere special and it’s *fun*. The story never bogs itself down with boring details. From start to finish, this is a fast paced, delicious ride. If it feels like your thing, give it a try.

I really enjoyed Daphne as an FMC, especially the way the author keeps her true to herself and gives her the space to tell her own story. She made it so easy to get pulled into the book. Overall, this was a fun, quick take on Daphne and Apollo’s story. If you enjoy Greek mythology retellings and are looking for something entertaining and easy to devour, I definitely recommend this one.
“The poets say I became a tree. That I fled, and was swallowed by the wood. That the god who loved me pressed his kisses to bark that recoiled from him, and crowned himself in laurel to console himself for what he could not have.”

Daphne has claimed her vow to Artemis, but the god's only wants us when it's convenient to them, but will punish us as soon as they see disloyalty.
Apollo doesn't expect a nymph can make him feel things, but soon, he'll do whatever he can to keep Daphne safe from his sister, even if it means getting hurt in the process.
Darcy gives us a retelling of a Greek myth, but with a happily ever after.
Daphne is a strong character, and while the gods are selfish, we also see vulnerability. This novel has a lot of spice throughout and a good storyline, with several characters that build this narrative.

August 1, 2026Such a beautifully modern retelling of Apollo and Daphne. I easily laughed, blushed and cried with each turnt page. I finished it in under two hours because the story was so enticing and exciting, I couldn’t wait to see if what I thought next was gonna happen. The characters were hot and admirable but also cruel and sweet. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t mind experiencing amnesia once in a while, just to reread this story and fall in love with it again.

This is a spicy retelling of Apollo and Daphne. Apollo is the God of Love. He is known as a womanizer who uses women and then leaves. Daphne is a nymph who is a huntress. She is a bit wild and doesn't listen to anyone. when she won't listen to Apollo, he uses his golden rope to lasso her. Something overcomes Daphne when she is restrained. She goes from being assertive to being submissive and she can't get enough of the feeling. even though she had promised herself to Artemis. This is a fairly quick, spicy read that will thoroughly entertain you.

I usually am head over heals for a mythology retelling, but unfortunately I couldn't get this story to hold my attention. I honestly debated DNFing, but I wanted to give it a fair chance.
The first half of the book felt like an instructional guide or a medical journal. The second half redeemed the story enough that I wanted to see it to the end.
I may be too jaded for this book sadly. My reads tend to be a lot darker, but I'm glad that I checked out this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and Eva Darcy for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Romantisi retelleing of Apollo - Daphne's story.
A man, a god who would burn the whole world for his woman √
A love so great beyond reason √

Bit confusing wording in dialogues, between historical and contemporary.. √

Bound Maiden by Eva Darcy
With all the content warnings at the beginning of the book I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. However, I enjoyed this retelling of Daphne and Apollo.
I felt the spark between the couple and the spicy scenes were great, hello Apollo’s rope.
Will be enjoyed by those who like romance on the darker side as well as Greek mythology

I love different takes and versions of stories from Greek mythology, and this version of Daphne and Apollo’s story did not disappoint. I liked that Daphne did her best to stay true to herself and keep her autonomy despite the progression of her relationship with Apollo. I would have loved to have been able to read Apollo’s side of the story and his progression, but still really enjoyed the book without the dual POV. I’m excited to read more from this author!

“I would have moved the world for him. For you, I would burn it down.”
Ugh, this gets me EVERY time!! 😍
This book was a wild ride from start to finish! There was so much action as well as *action* packed into this novel.
The magical rope, the self righteous god, the BANTER between these two! I absolutely loved it.
There was a good balance of plot to spice in my opinion, though certain aspects of the plotline felt rushed through. I’m not complaining; the book is listed as erotica, and it definitely delivered! The several spicy scenes were incredibly well written. 🔥
Huge thank you to NetGalley and Eva Darcy for this eARC! I will definitely be reading the other books in this series! 🫶
