When danger from Lucy Campbell's past finds her in London, distance is no longer Lucy and Connor's greatest obstacle. Fear, shame, and long-buried secrets threaten everything they have fought to build together.
After a life-changing summer in White River, Montana, Lucy returns to London for her final year at the Royal Veterinary College determined to finish her veterinary degree while managing the ranch her father left behind.
On paper, she is moving forward.
In reality, she is unraveling.
Nightmares return. Buried memories claw their way to the surface. The abuse Lucy survived in silence refuses to stay hidden, and every truth she keeps from Connor feels less like protection and more like betrayal.
Back in Montana, Connor Lochland is honoring Robert Campbell's final wishes while rebuilding a home he hopes Lucy will one day choose. But loving her through their grief was only the beginning. To stand beside her through the storm ahead, Connor must confront his own fears, trust the love they have fought to reclaim, and learn that he does not have to carry the weight of being perfect alone.
Set between the mountains of Montana and the streets of London, Love Me Through the Storm is a deeply emotional romance about healing after trauma, overcoming abuse, learning to trust again, and discovering that love does not require perfection to endure.
Perfect for readers of contemporary romance, romantic suspense, slow-burn, second-chance romance, found family, emotional healing journeys, and stories where hope shines brightest after the darkest storms.
J.S. Tazwell is an indie romance author with a love for heartfelt stories that balance grief, healing, and the beauty of second chances. Her debut novel, Love Me Through the Grief, is the first in the White River Romance series and introduces readers to a small-town Montana setting filled with family, community, and slow-burn love.
A former educator and children’s publisher, Tazwell has always been passionate about storytelling. She made the leap from children’s books to adult contemporary romance, weaving together emotional depth, realistic family dynamics, and swoony romance that lingers long after the final page.
When she isn’t writing, she can be found reading fantasy and romance, sipping coffee, playing with her Labrador Retriever, or spending time with her husband and two sons.
She lives in North Carolina, but her heart often wanders to the mountains of Montana—where her stories find their roots.
What stood out to me most about Love Me Through the Storm is how real the characters feel. These aren't people who have everything figured out just because they've found each other. Lucy and Connor both have their own histories, wounds, fears, and baggage, and the story lets those things actually affect how they navigate their lives and relationships.
Book 2 also takes a much deeper look into Lucy's past. Things that were only hinted at in Love Me Through the Grief are explored more fully here, giving you a much better understanding of who Lucy is. Her trauma isn't treated as a convenient plot device or something that can simply be erased by finding the right person.
I especially appreciated that the story doesn't romanticize abuse or trauma. It acknowledges that what happens to us can leave lasting effects, and that healing isn't necessarily straightforward. At the same time, Lucy is never reduced to her trauma. She's still a complicated, imperfect person trying to figure out who she is and what she wants.
Connor brings his own history into the story as well, which makes their dynamic even more interesting. He has his own things to work through and has to navigate what it means to care about someone whose past affects the way they experience relationships. Neither character is simply the "broken" one while the other swoops in to save them.
And honestly, that's what makes this story work for me. Real people are messy. We all bring our past experiences into our relationships, and everyone carries something different. There isn't always a neat answer about whose pain matters more or whose baggage is easier to deal with. Sometimes two people are simply trying to figure out how to exist together while carrying everything that made them who they are.
If you enjoy character-driven romance, complicated relationships, emotional tension, and stories that explore trauma without glorifying it, this is definitely a book worth picking up.
And while Love Me Through the Grief and Love Me Through the Storm are part of the same series, I love that they can each be read as standalone stories. Book 2 gives you a much deeper look at Lucy and Connor, but you'll have to read it yourself to discover where their story takes them.
Sometimes your growth as an author can surprise even yourself. I've learned so much about myself through writing Lucy's story. In book 1, I gave her so many pieces of my own experiences, from losing a father to toxic family members making things harder to how she found her father passed... even giving her pieces of my own eulogy to my dad so every part felt real. But then book 2 came along and it was such an intense experience for me that it took twice as long to finish. I feel what my characters feel on the page, and that can be taxing. However, it's paid off. I've written something I couldn't be prouder of. My growth as a writer is on every page, within every line. I hope that this story resonates with you on some level. There's elements of truth woven into the fiction. Not only do the emotions come from a real place, I've spent hours researching veterinary medicine, taken virtual tours of London and RVC, and I even sat down with a group of Marines to discuss realism for a certain scene (no spoilers). Enjoy and happy reading.
I am extremely grateful to have received an ARC from J.S. Tazwell and am leaving this review voluntarily. 💗
Lucy Campbell and Connor Lochland’s love story has only just begun, but with Lucy away at veterinary school in England and Connor back in White River, Montana, juggling the responsibilities of two farms, making time for each other isn’t exactly easy.
On top of the challenges of a long-distance relationship, Lucy is struggling with intense flashbacks involving her abusive ex-boyfriend, Callum. Not wanting to add anything else to Connor’s already-full plate, she tries to deal with everything on her own. But what initially seems like trauma resurfacing soon begins to feel a little too real, and things take a very unfortunate turn.
This book really gets into the heart of Lucy’s story, and some of it was incredibly emotional to read. Her flashbacks involving Callum are intense, and there were so many moments when I just wanted to reach into the book and help her. Every scene involving the two of them had me on edge, but that pub scene in particular?! My anxiety was THROUGH THE ROOF. It felt so surreal and had my heart racing.
That made it even more meaningful to see Lucy slowly allowing herself to have fun, feel safe, and enjoy her life again. It feels like she has been waiting for that feeling for such a long time. And I absolutely loved the Herd Nerds! They are exactly the kind of friends Lucy needs, extremely supportive, caring, and quite literally protective of her when it matters most.
We also get to see much more of Callum’s true character, as well as his family, and let’s just say the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree. His family is every bit as vile as he is, but seeing those dynamics also gives us a glimpse into the environment Callum grew up in and how it helped shape the person he became.
And Connor! 🥹 I love how supportive he is of Lucy. He never pressures her or makes her feel like she owes him anything. He gives her the space she needs while still making sure she knows he is there for her. He is incredibly empathetic and such a genuinely kindhearted person. Now, if only Amanda would finally leave the poor man alone! 😂
I also really appreciated Lucy’s therapy sessions. The conversations between Lucy and her therapist felt genuine, and I liked seeing that part of her healing represented rather than having everything she has experienced simply disappear because she is now in a loving relationship.
And, of course, I still love the small-town atmosphere of White River. There is something so comforting about this community and the way everyone looks out for one another. When things get tough, these people show up.
This book feels like we’re really getting to the heart of who Lucy is—not just her relationship with Connor, but her trauma, friendships, healing, and the life she is trying to build for herself. There are some genuinely difficult and anxiety-inducing moments, but they make the moments when Lucy feels safe, loved, and happy that much more meaningful. ♥️
❣️Book Review ❣️ Love Me Through The Storm- Release Date: September 19th
My.God. What a wild ride. First and foremost, thank you so much @j.s.tazwell it’s been amazing to be on the White River Romance series ARC team. It has been amazing to watch Connor, Sam, and Lucy evolve so much!
This book is one of the rawest books I’ve ever read. It’s emotional, heartbreaking, and once the book completely crushes you, it heals you in its own perfect way. It wasn’t a rollercoaster that gave you whip lash, it was a pathway into the lives of people’s worst days, trauma, ptsd and the depth of love in their heart. It was the good, the perfect winning in the end. I absolutely loved this story. I cried, both happy and sad tears. I felt like I was watching everything play out infront of me, wanting to scream, fight characters and hug others. It was so beautiful!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The most wonderful sweetest and empowering story I’ve read in a while. Lucy’s story of overcoming assault is both empowering and helps readers on a similar journey feel seen. This is more than a heartwarming romance it’s a story of overcoming and finding yourself. But don’t think this empowerment doesn’t come with spice, cuz it has plenty of it! Love interest Connor is definitely a swoon worthy BF who also has to overcome his own grief. Author J.S. Tazwell creates a story that will have you annotating and passing it on to your book bestie! 10/10 recommend!
Favorite line: “I love and honor the version of me that had to survive back then. I am allowed to heal without punishing myself anymore.”
Favorite scene: Runaway Dog 🐶 Let’s just say Flash is adorable! (Chapter 13)
This was such a great sequel! It's rare that I enjoy a sequel more than the first installment but I truly did this time. I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book because it was so gripping. Callum just freaked me out, and what a way to make him a multidimensional villain. What I also really enjoyed was the realism of Lucys healing journey, her and Connors struggles with long distance, the love and support they have for each other, and the way her friend group shows up for her. I do hope that in the next book Lucy and Connor get some well deserved rest from all the drama. Can't wait!
Loved seeing the continuation of Lucy & Connor’s lives after book 1. She returns to vet school and he tries to maintain all of the things back at home. Add in people from their past that just won’t go away, competing time zones, busy lives, and they have to make a decision about whether they will turn toward each other or leave things as they are. It had a nice balance of fast paced moments and fun - just like her first book. I appreciated seeing her friendships and life in England and look forward to seeing what comes next for this group of people.
This was an emotional book it was so emotional all the way through the book till the end where it did get better with some loving moments the stuff she had gone through with her ex was really bad and she overcame it and did what she was set out to do and then all of a sudden her exs mom and what she tried to do and blamed it all on her there was never a dull moment in this book I even had to go and order the first book as this one was so good
I think I may have loved this one even more than the first. It was so fun going with Lucy to London and seeing how her and Connor navigated a long-distance relationship. There was so good drama and a bit of suspense too.
