Amazing to learn so much history about Maryland I didn’t know - even after living here for decades. Yes, this is Gay and Lesbian history. It is also just plain history (written in a delightfully camp and cheeky way) - the parts that got excluded from the mainstream histories so many of us read. These wonderful stories of resistance, resilience, and liberation bring things together, create a fuller, richer, and better understanding of this wonderful state, and point to how we might all learn from the past and celebrate and appreciate each other for who we are.

Originally picked up zine 3 “The Pocomoke Tragedy : The 1878 Sapphic Murder that Scandalized the Eastern Shore” (obviously) and came back for the full collection. I found that these stories feel much more poignant when they’re from your own backyard. As tragic as history can be, I appreciate the reminder that queerness has always been here, and the community will always prevail.
