A Matter of Time
Jory Harcourt leads a pretty normal life until, as the trouble magnet he is, when sent to do the simplest favor for a friend––ends up witnessing a murder. He’s saved by police Detective Sam Kage, but Jory refuses protective custody. Hiding is not something he does, plus, he has to work in the morning. He’s in real jeopardy though, especially after he agrees to testify about what he saw.
While trying to survive attempts on his life, well-meaning friends, an overprotective boss, and a slowly unfolding mystery that is far more sinister than he could have ever imagined, Jory also has to deal with falling in love for the first time. Sam is everything he’s always wanted, and he knows he could make the detective wildly happy… if only given the chance.
But fate has other plans.
After his life implodes, he’s left alone, but in time he emerges stronger, with a new career, and a true understanding of what he wants both personally and professionally. Everything is on track and balanced, which is, of course, when Sam Kage returns.

Re-Read 2026, New Edition
It's funny that I questioned whether I'd read this now or later. Laugh out loud funny.
This read like a freaking dream.
If you've read/listened to this as many times as I have, you will definitely notice the updates.
If you love this story as much as I do, those updates will just add to the perfection.
New cover, Sam Cage in the flesh? My God.
Seriously. I wasn't sure. I mean, I know this story inside and out and I had a pretty good idea what Mary was going to clean up, I just wasn't sure. When you love something this much you sort of want it left alone, right? Well, I'll tell you, they worked, they flowed and they fixed it even if I didn't feel it needed fixing.
Having this all in one book read so much better too. I'd never have thought it would but it did.
Now I can't wait for the rest!!

Jory & Sam Forever!
I LOVE JORY AND SAM. They're firmly in my top ten favorite MM couples.
I also love Mary Calmes. Her blend of suspense, heat, humor, and immersive world-building really works for me. I've been a fan of Jory since the first time I read this book, and the new edition doesn't change the story, it mostly fixes some timeline issues and smooths out the writing. The story loses none of its magic on a reread.

I always forget how much I dislike Sam for the first three-quarters of A Matter of Time. He redeems himself in the final quarter, and throughout the rest of the series, but getting there is a doozy. Definitely recommend sticking with it, though, because it's completely worth it. Sam and Jory are made for each other.

All things Jory and Sam have been my comfort re read for as long as I’ve been reading MM romance and were my gateway to the wonderful stories of Mary Calmes over the years. This re published story of the epic, and at time’s truly ridiculous, love story was fantastic

I have the original AMoT series. I read this side by side with the original. The changes made are just longer (and definitely not needed) explanations/descriptions of situations/people. Changing the scene where Jory and Aja go to get dinner and run from the kidnappers was a ridiculous change. 🙄 Adding in the nurse asking if Sam is AIDS+ just because he's in a same sex relationship is total BS! I've been a nurse 34 yrs and it isn't something we ask. This is just disgusting!!! 😡 Jory's visit to the house he was held at was changed into something different and not better. 🤦♀️ The book ends with Michael and Bev's homophobic wedding. We still get Sam allowing Amanda to rub all over him like a cat in heat. Gross! 🤢 Now we have Sam's homophobic father and two sisters supposedly not happy about Sam and Jory having to keep their marriage quiet and Thomas consoling Jory. Yet the conversation Jory had with Dylan (while he was getting ready to go out or get Sam from the post-wedding gathering, not sure the true motivation there), that was hilarious, turned into a tepid one with Aja. Not one change I found made the story better. It just made the story longer and worse. I'm so glad I have the original series because this isn't better IMO. Improvements couldn't been made but this story doesn't reflect it. I really liked the AMoT series and I'm so disappointed. If you have the original series DON'T waste your money buying this. 😳

I enjoyed this updated edition of the book that started it all for me. This was one of the first MM books that I read on repeat. I enjoyed the updates. Most are subtle changes to match the timeline. Others help clarify or change the tone. All and all, I really enjoyed this. Of course I did. I’m a Mary Stan! I can’t wait for the other updates to the remaining books. One thing I will say is this is long. She has condensed what was originally released as four books into one. Be prepared. I also look forward to the new audio interpretations. Hopefully I’ll love those as much as I loved the originals that were narrated by Paul Morey (I can still quote the narrations all these years later).

Riveting
Can I say I love Jory, well I do and believe you’ll love the MC as well. If you love drama, laughter, and a little bit of action you’ll love this book. My only complaint was about the mental health parts, they show a lack of understanding that would make psychs throw collective hands up in frustration, however you really didn’t see it coming so it adds some mystery to the book. Enjoy :).

The best made better

The start of it all
This is such a treat I adore Sam and Jory and this reissue is wonderful. It’s the same beginning of their story in one book with a tightened up timeline. I feel like this was a gift to us from Mary Calmes!

Better than I remembered
