Packing Light is a very quick read (less than an hour) with a number of helpful travel tips for those who would like to pack smarter and learn to avoid having to check baggage. Hopefully, after reading this, I won't take so many unnecessary items (that I never end up using) on my next trip. This was even a free kindle download today; what more could you want?
Some of the book gets repetitive, but the general premise is sound. I found that it contained a lot of useful information for travelers who want to travel light.
This is written by the founder of Tortuga packs, an awesome pack company. So, obviously there is an inclination to recommend the pack they sell. That aside, I didn't expect much from a free brand oriented book, and I actually was surprised. I've been taken 40 flights per year (average) since some years now and you learn one thing or two about flying, efficiency and packing. So, the book will save you some time in learning (otherwise by trial and error). And although the book is repetitive at times, it has cool tips, reinforces common sense decisions and for me the most important content is the brand suggestions for several items, like the more budget-oriented UniQlo briefs instead of the de-facto go-to Exofficios. Good short read.
A very useful guide for travellers, full of practical and actionable advice. Two minor flaws - the book is clear a collection of disparate articles on related topics, rather than a singular work and this is evident in the repetition of material throughout. Secondly, it is very clearly targeted at a US audience. While most of the advice is actionable and beneficial for all travellers, many of the products mentioned are simply not available easily outside of the US and would be extremely expensive to import (including Perrotta's own product, the Tortuga Backpack). All in all, this book contains some valuable information and is definitely recommended reading for frequent travellers.
There was a lot of repeat information, but overall, the title says it all. This guide teaches the average person how to lighten luggage and organize--a useful skill because over-packing is an expression of fear. Travel is an adventure into the unknown, but we don't need to pack our entire walk-in-closet-wardrobe onto our back, pay extra fees at airports, and bring spares of every toiletry item in order to feel safe. We can all do without the 'stuff' and have a better travel experience in the process.
Chalked full of great travel tips. I totally buy into the entire concept of packing light and doing laundry while on the road. Was challenging the first few times but now it's a wonderfully freeing feeling.
Quick read with some good information, but the chapters had a lot of repetitive information. I think it is because they compressed a bunch of individual articles together as the foundation of the book, but I found myself skipping over things that they went into detail about in a previous chapter.
This guide is full of valuable tips for packing light and I enjoyed them. It is objective, it brings suggestions of checklists for men and women and general tips for a short or long travel.
Since I had read some of their blog, I had read a lot of this before. But it's a nice synopsis and compact place for ideas on how to pack less for travel.
