I was pretty sure where this story would lead as every 2nd chance trope these days all end up the same way with a non-celibate MMC & a virgin/frozen FMC. I truly expected this to be another DNF but for once author surprised me. I should note the reason that this got 3 stars from me is because I found FMC too annoying. It literally took 99% of the story for her to decide to be all-in with MMC and not constantly push him away. When a story is written with a character acting so insecure & hot/cold attitude, it becomes annoying and tiresome to continue reading. So any enjoyment I had was solely for MMC, the brother and the kid scenes. I’ll always high star anything that has a devoted and CELIBATE Hero even if the writing sucked.
So we begin with MCs in the past whom have been together for 2 years and deeply in love. Until that is, FMC is injured in a car accident and undergoes an emergency hysterectomy which leaves her infertile and unable to give MMC the family they dreamed of. Plus, his uncle is putting pressure on him to marry an OW and unite the two crime families. Which leaves FMC feeling that the only option left for her is to leave him so that she doesn’t ruin his life and he can have kids with OW.
Now it’s 8 years later and we find out that FMC has come home because her BFF died and left her guardian of her baby daughter and owner of her book shop. Neither MC have had any contact with each other for 8 years. Until MMC sees her on the street holding a baby one day and thinks she moved on with someone else. But that only lasts for a brief moment before he remembers that she can’t have kids. So he insinuates back into her life and falls in love with the baby too. Even though FMC keeps pushing him away, he is persistent and never gives up. Eventually things start to progress towards a reconciliation but FMC is confronted by OW whom he married 6 months prior and OW tells her to lay off her hubby because they are having a baby!
Yep, MMC is married to OW! He married OW 6 months prior just before his uncle died to appease him as he thought FMC would never come back. The problem with this plotline though is that the whole “marry OW to unite the families” was given to him 8 years prior which was one of the reasons FMC left him. So if he was being pressured to marry OW 8 years prior (which he did not want to do), why didn’t he marry her anytime in the 8 years the MCs were separated? Was the uncle no longer pressuring him? At the time, he was looking into options to avoid marrying OW so how did he get away from that pressure to marry in the 7 ½ years FMC was gone? It was never mentioned other than that the Uncle was dying and he wanted to please him.
The marriage between MMC & OW is a business transaction only. Basically a paper agreement only. They did not consummate it. They never even touched or kissed! He has zero interest in her – no attraction, no fond feelings, friendship or anything. She basically annoys him and he can’t wait to get rid of her which is why I was not ticked off by this plot point. He & OW have separate bedrooms and lives but the OW is pregnant by OM and she tries unsuccessfully to seduce him so that she could claim the baby is his. However, MMC catches quickly and puts a stop to that and finally finds the solution he was seeking to getting rid of her so he could be with FMC!
But unfortunately for him, he never tells FMC about his little marriage which ends up biting him in the ass when the vindictive OW spills the beans to FMC before he could say anything. And she even adds in a little false nugget that the baby she is expecting is his which devastates FMC since she can’t have kids.
FMC ends up kicking him out of her life just when things were going his way with winning her back so MMC decides to give her some time to cool down and he would go to her and explain the issue once he ends things for good with the OW.
Eventually when OW is no longer in the picture (thank God it didn’t drag as she was gone pretty much in the 30% or so), MMC goes to FMC and explains things and they are good. Except, now we have 60% of FMC playing hot & cold with her whole attitude of being scared to trust him with her heart and her kid. The guy pretty much did head stands and went on bended knee to win her back and did EVERYTHING for her to make her trust him and she was still flaking off for 99.9% until a friend of hers told her straight out to choose and stop playing with his heart! Cheers to that! 👏 👏 👏
Anyway, this is a 2nd chance Mafia trope but don’t expect any mafia storyline. MMC & his brother basically spent the entire story going after guys who owe them money and beating them up. That’s all we got on that front. The rest is just MMC trying to win FMC and falling in love with the kid whom he considers as his now and some baby & MMC’s brother sweet moments. 🥰
Along with the time slot of the marriage thing with OW that didn’t make sense, there was also some other holes left such as when his marriage is over and he is packing her shit to send to her, we are told over & over again throughout the story that he never slept with OW and that they had separate bedrooms. So color me surprised when I read this: (Bianca being OW)
“Because Bianca might not have slept in my bed, but she existed in that space. Her perfume probably clings to the air, her presence contaminated everything. I'd rather sleep on the floor in the old house than bring any of that with me.
By four, we're done.
I do one last walk-through while the guys load the truck. Room by room, making sure I'm not leaving anything that matters. The formal dining room with its unused china—don't care. The living room with its decorator-chosen furniture—don't care. The library with its empty shelves—never cared. The master bedroom I used. My closet, now empty except for Bianca's things in her section. The bathroom that still smells like her expensive products. The walk-in closet where my suits used to hang in perfect rows. I close that door and don't look back”.
That doesn’t make sense. Why would her clothes be in his room when she had her own suite? This marriage was not something he was trying to convince to people that it was real. He made it clear to her Father and others that it wasn’t consummated and that he only married her to please his uncle before he died. So it was not necessary for her clothes & shit to be in his room when he didn’t need to convince anyone of anything! I’m just gonna have to have amnesia on that line because I think author confused the rooms. Maybe he was checking HER room and not his to make sure everything was gone but he DID say that his closet & bathroom was full of her shit too. LOL.

Celibacy – Both celibate for entire 8 year separation!!! MMC said his last kiss, touch and anything with a woman was with FMC 8 years ago! He had NO INTEREST in hooking up with anyone or being with anyone other than FMC!!! Ditto for FMC.
"How long has it been for you?" I'm almost afraid to hear the answer. Maybe I shouldn't have even asked. "Zola—" "Tell me." I need to know, even if it's going to hurt. Even if he's going to say something that will confirm my worst fears—that he tried to move on, that he found someone else, that I was the only one stuck in the past. "Eight years." His voice is steady, certain. "It's been eight years." I blink, trying to process that. "But you were married. And before that, I wasn't even in this state for years. I know you said you didn't touch her, but—" "I didn't touch anyone." He emphasizes each word like he needs me to really hear them. "Didn't look at anyone. Didn't even think about anyone. I just wanted you." Eight years. He spent eight years wanting only me, the same way I spent eight years wanting only him. All that time I was in New York, trying and failing to move on, trying and failing to imagine wanting anyone the way I wanted him—he was here doing exactly the same thing. "It was the same for me." The words feel pulled from somewhere deep in my chest. "I didn't want anyone else."
OM scenes - none OW – see above. OW does try to seduce him but he shuts it down each time and is not interested in her at all. She disgusts him! 👏👏🤩
Second chance romance with a HERO CELIBATE 8 YEARS!!!!!!! (FMC was celibate too but that's the usual) Come through author!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idk you but I love you!!!! May you continue to shine bright in this world of manwhoring romance book zeros
I totally fell in love with Declan, his story is the kind that I really enjoy. I absolutely love stories with action, spice, suspense and with Daddy's Ring it tells a amazing backstory for Declan and Zola characters. OMG! ! Talk about star cross lovers these two relationship is really smoking! This one can be your next mafia obsession series! In a world of Night clubs and other mafia business, Declan knows Zola is his love that's forever but Zola due to her hangups is afraid. Then the accident happened and all bets are off for her but there's a lot that stills needs to be talk about. Several times I felt unsure of Zola's character plus these characters had my anxiety up and somehow their relationship would get the best of me but I stayed glued to the pages. Be ready for a love story filled with drama, revenge, intrigue and twists and turns. I enjoyed visiting with old characters and the secondary characters are so fabulous that it makes for this to be a awesome story to read. I have to say that I loved and enjoyed this story. It's an understated gem. But I can't help myself for mafia romances are one of my favorite. That why I was so excited to read this book and I must say after reading this story that it was on point. You don't want to miss this book or series because it takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. This will be so entertaining!!! Happy Reading.
A delightful story about second chances. Zola and Declan were in a relationship and everything was going well until a tragedy caused Zola to leave town in a hurry, saddening Declan. Zola returns after a long time following an eventual occurrence, which prompts Declan to finally make a choice and pursue what he truly wants, which was always Zola. I enjoyed their journey and how, despite everything, they finally get their long-deserved happiness together. I read their story with pleasure and was completely absorbed in it.
I received an Advance Reader copy of this series and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This dramatic story had me all caught up in Declan and Zola. Their love story is heartfelt and had me connecting with them. It all starts out so wonderful until a tragedy happens causing Zola to leave town devastating Declan. He is forced to marry another for the family, but when Zola returns because of another incident, they find their way back to each other and Declan is determined to finally get his chance for happiness with her. It is a well written book that touches the heart and had me in their corner.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very refreshing. I man and women in love, torn apart by a tragedy, but brought back by another trade by 8 years later. A everlasting love. A strong family in the end.
Almost DNF the FMC worked my nerves with her fears. She had been through a lot but come on. Love the cover😉😉. The MMC had a lot of patients. His brother needs to tell his story. Glad they got their HEA❤. Kelani Knox is becoming one of my favorite authors👏🏾👏🏾
Awesomeness … Zola and Declan went through so much grief; both so committed to each other. So happy that Mauve got a family. Hoping Stellan gets a book 🥰🥰
