Nightbound: A Gay Vampire Paranormal Academy Romance

Rate this book
A witch who knows the rules. A vampire who's lived too long to care. A forbidden spark that refuses to die…

VALEN Three centuries teach you discipline—over hunger, over steel, over desire. I teach history at Widdershins Academy, coach its fencing team, and keep to the shadows where a vampire belongs. No attachments. No slipups. Then a sharp-tongued stranger pulls me into an alley during one stolen night off campus, and for the first time in longer than I can remember, I feel alive. I never thought I'd see him again—until he pulls off a fencing mask at tryouts and turns out to be Archer Quinn, my newest student.

It would be easy to keep my distance if his laughter didn't feel like a long-lost sunrise, if feeding from him didn't steady something I thought had died centuries ago. But the academy forbids a professor from touching a student, and his family forbids him from so much as speaking to the undead. I've broken a lot of rules in my life.

I don't want to break him.

ARCHER I came to Widdershins to keep my head down—win meets, pass exams, make my family proud. Vampires are dangerous, untrustworthy, off-limits. That was the first lesson the Quinns ever taught me. So I have no business spending one unforgettable night with a stranger in the mountains… and even less business discovering he's Professor Crowe—the centuries-old vampire now grading my work and running my fencing team.

He's wrong for me in every way—older, immortal, the enemy by tradition. Yet the more he feeds on what burns between us, the more my magic seems to sing to his, like it's been waiting all along. If I choose him, I gamble my family name, my inheritance, my whole future. If I don't… I'll spend the rest of my life pretending I never felt destiny bite down.

Nightbound is a rich, high-heat dark academy romance—a forbidden professor-and-student affair, a vampire-and-witch divide, and an age-gap bond that defies every rule. Perfect for readers who want sharp banter, stolen midnight lessons, and a love that chooses itself even when no one else will.

I obviously did not pick up this book bcs I thought it would be a masterpiece of story or writing. despite that, I am surprised by just how badly repetitive the writing was. the same sentences over and over. it made me question the authenticity of this piece of writing.

Valen is a centuries old vampire who has worked hard to control himself, he's had to fight hard to become a professor - even among other creatures, vampires are thought to be the worst - but finally, the Dean at Widdershins has given him the opportunity to prove himself.
Archer is from a very old and powerful family of witches, he is the heir, and therefore many expectations and restrictions are placed on him. He's given up nearly everything that truly interests him in order to make his father proud, but fortunately he was able to get his father to see the benefits of fencing.
Both men are bound by perceptions and expectations of others, but just wish to be free to do as they choose. They both have a sister that annoys them - as sisters do - and end up being coerced into going out and having 'fun' while pretending to be human. They each give in reluctantly, meet one another, have an instant attraction, and end up having such phenomenal steamy sexy times that thoughts of their 'human' one night stand won't let them concentrate on anything else. So it comes as a huge shock for both of them when they discover who the other truly is.
Valen is determined to keep his relationship with Archer as strictly professor and student. However, it is Archer who is equally determined to pursue an intimate relationship with Valen. Both are encouraged by their sisters to see where things go and eventually Valen gives in.
They definitely do not lack for passion, but soon begin to find more things in common and a more intense and deeper bond develops. Archer's father discovers them and forces him and his sister home where they must choose between being obedient children or being cut loose with nothing.
Then, as things are wont to happen at Widdershins, all hell breaks loose. The Purity Front has returned and is destroying the academy and going after those that sympathize with the creatures or who aren't pure witches. Valen and Archer are reunited in battle, they are so much better and more powerful together, but it is an unexpected ally that truly helps turn the tide and helps send the Purity Front running.
Valen and Archer work things out with the academy and though they need to keep their relationship a secret, they are able to be together and let their love flourish into HEA.

I received an ARC, this review is my honest, unbiased opinion.

Student/Professor stories are not often my favorite. Though I have enjoyed some of them, they sometimes have the tendency to give me the ick because of the age and power dynamics.

But I liked how it was handled in this one, with

I also kind of liked that

So I thought it was generally well handled, all in all.

Plus I'm a sucker for vampire stories, and this is hardly the first time in a vampire or fae book where there's a difference of centuries between the characters. :-/

I was also a little glad that we've gotten back to the Purity Front storyline, which kind of went by the wayside in the last book.

Archer and Amelia's family were still awful - keeping in line with the rest of this series - and the whole thing with parents thinking that they're providing for you by providing food and shelter but missing out on the emotional component and somehow not even getting it was a little too close to home... :/

But it was a pleasant surprised that

This is book six in the author’s Widdershin’s Academy series featuring a school for paranormal students, from witches to werewolves and everything else in between. This one contains one of my favorite tropes: a teacher/student romance. Don’t worry though, everyone is over 18 so there’s nothing inappropriate going on.

I’m not sure what I expected a vampire to look like but I admit, I was a little surprised at the picture of Valen on the front cover but it didn’t slow me down at all! I was completely in love with him within a few short pages and with Archer just as quickly. Their relationship was sweet and so utterly s3xy that I’ve already had to do a quick reread of some of my favorite sweet and steamy parts before I could let them go and even then, I had to read the bonus epilogue TWICE before I could even consider writing my review.

If a little bit of magic appeals to you (à la Harry Potter but with college aged students), you really need to check this out. It can totally be read as a standalone with no lack of understanding but they’re much more enjoyable when read as a series. I loved it! 4.5 stars

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

I still love this world just as much as ever. Magic, monsters, romance, and eroticism. It’s always a pleasure to return to Widdershins Academy, and with this new volume, Blake R. Wolfe doesn’t disappoint!
I loved the contrast between the two characters: Valen, a vampire three centuries old, and Archer, a young wizard just twenty-one years old—and yet these two men find each other and understand one another. They have many enemies, but they can’t deny their attraction to each other.
I really appreciated Valen’s originality—he’s a vampire unlike any we’re used to! If you’re curious, give it a read—it’s well worth it!

-----

J'adore toujours autant cet univers.

The Widdershins Academy stands as a remarkable institution crafted specifically for monsters. This enchanting world is inhabited by fantastical creatures such as werewolves, witches, and vampires. Each character enriches the story, creating a vibrant tapestry of supernatural themes that resonate throughout the series.

The sixth installment, “Nightbound,” continues the tradition of excitement and magic found in its predecessors. You will find yourself immersed in captivating plots and rich character development. Throughout this book, the “Purity Front” recurs as a formidable antagonist. This group of witches believes it is superior to all other creatures and strives to purge the academy of those it deems unworthy.

Central to “Nightbound” is the evolving romance between a young witch from an influential family and his vampire professor. As their forbidden love blossoms, it threatens to unravel their lives and the stability of Widdershins itself. With moments of intense action, passionate heat, and a promising happily-ever-after, this book serves as a thrilling addition to the series.

Valen and Archer aren't the first professor/student coupling at Widdershins Academy. But I think they're the first "oops, I slept with my teacher". One of my favorite tropes. And Wolf Blake gets the most out of it. Both of the mains
have good reason to ignore their attraction, and of course they absolutely can't.
Vampires are the least trusted creatures in the paranormal world. Enemies of witches. And there's an age gap, only centuries, no biggie. Lots of angst, some definite scenery chewing. An evil father.
The world of Widdershins Academy continues to be fascinating. Dangerous, even at a neutral place like the school. For the reader, it's great fun. Valen and Archer scorch the grounds with steam and sizzle. There's a touch of humor, both mains have annoying sisters. We get to see some familiar faces.
I received an advanced copy of this e book from the author and this is my review.

Excellent 4.5 stars read!

This was such an easy, fun, and steamy read! The chemistry between the leads was fantastic and I loved Archer, he had total golden retriever energy.

My main critique is the plot twist involving his father. It felt completely out of the blue and did a total 180 on everything we had been led to believe about him, which didn't feel entirely logical within the story's context. That said, the writing is solid, everything wrapped up nicely in the end and overall I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of the series!

A tale of forbidden love: a witch and a vampire, a professor, and a student. All wrapped around yet another bond that happens in this series with true love. A strong witch family that wants to control their children and the children fighting to live their own lives.
This series has very similar storyline. In some ways, reading it is like coming home to seeing old friends, but it is bordering on becoming repetitious.
I still enjoy these stories, and the cover art is stunningly beautiful.

A witch and a vampire? Now we're talking!

Valen and Asher are the ultimate forbidden love story. Granted this entire series is just repeated forbidden love stories but the vampire and witch trope really hits. The one thing I will say that this story had that the previous stories did not was the eventual support of at least one parent. A parent who was not supporting the Purity Front. Which was BIG!

Hard Times at Widdershins

Between vampires and witches a romantic story with all the elements of lust and heady sexual cravings develops. We are drawn in by the intriguing style that Blake R Wolfe's creative mind brings to paranormal creatures. The drama explodes with a showdown of good and evil at Widdershins.

This follows the now formulaic Widdershins Academy story and plot. There’s Valen who’s a vampire who feeds on sexual energy and then there’s Archer who is a rich boy witch from an affluent family who is also really monster racist and forbids them from being together but then they just are together and the end. Lots of spice though!!!

Loved this one so much!
Each Widdershins Academy book gets better and better.
I love a good vampire story.
And a cocky witch is always a plus 😁

My only critique is there has to be another saying for "feedback loop". It has appeared in all books and can be over used at times.

Valen as a vampire has no heartbeat but he breathes?🙄
Stop talking about his « many centuries » he’s only 316, 3 isn’t many
Why on the cover Valen is depicted with a different skin color and big pointy ears when Archer and everyone at the bar crawl sees him as a human? Makes no sense…

Great story, but never been crazy about the teacher/student trope. Can’t wait to see where the purity front goes next as this leaves off on a bit of a cliffhanger. Great cameo from Wild at the end
