Jeza is a gorgeous redhead with a broken heart. One afternoon, she meets a handsome stranger at a local gun range and the sparks fly. Instant attraction results in a hot romance, but trouble looms on the horizon. Her former abusive boyfriend returns to reclaim her with dangerous intent.
This isn't my usual fare, mainly because there was no paranormal going-ons. However that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. It was a fun little ride, a nice short story. Not much I'd be able to discuss without spoilers, so suffice to say, read it and you'll know why I liked it. I'm sure those who read contemporary will love this novella.

This is a short story about a young woman who has had a rocky start to finding love.
Jezza has been alone since the death of her grandfather but his passing did pave the way for her to start the bookshop of her dreams with her best friend.
One day a chance meeting at the gun range takes her love life on a more of a positive path.
Will Jezza and Jackson make a future together.... or will the past come back to smash her happiness apart.
What I thought:
The writing is quite descriptive, I enjoyed the description of the cottage and of the characters. The storyline had quite a lot of world building for a short story and after the initial few meetings it jumps forward to when they are starting to become more involved.
I enjoyed this short story.
Jackson sounds like a swoon worthy book boyfriend, and there are a few steamy passages so this is an over 18 read.
And the only thing that I could say that I had doubts about, was the ending. The authors gone for a dramatic event occurring but the follow through was too abrupt and glossed over. if it had more of the detail of the initial introduction, although I know that the author has the word count constraints
Also the fate of the ex-boyfriend was too convenient for my taste and Jezza's reaction to it was way too forgiving, but that's a personal view and other readers may not have the same opinion as myself.
for a short story I am impressed with the amount of detail the author has given the reader to visualize the story and characters.
I will look into what other works the author has written as I am sure that by this little taster I will enjoy a full novel or novella.
There is a difference between a short novel and a novella. A novella is a single literary hit and can often be read in one sitting. It has a comparatively simple structure, there are no subplots and fewer characters, and yet a novella can pack a real reading punch.
In “Angel Mine” and “Lycan Love” Barbara Chioffi shows herself to be a novella writer to watch, and although this review looks mainly at “Angel Mine”, some of the comments could also be applied as the writer deals with the werewolf theme of “Lycan Love”.
Chioffi has a considerable gift for character presentation and development and in “Angel Mine” she focuses consistently on two strong central characters, both of whom move from positions of self-doubt after failed relationships to a renewal of confidence as they slowly find happiness in each other. An ordinary, perhaps even pedestrian theme, one might think, but there is a twist which makes this book quite memorable and by including it, the author shows that she is a story-teller of considerable ability.
To an extent Chioffi is still developing her writing style, and will learn to pace events a little more evenly, but this is not to say that readers should wait for her later books. This author already has a strong command of language and her fluency of expression will improve as she writes more. Chioffi has a high level of imagination and so far as steamy sensuality goes, she handles it with perfect control, not over-indulging but using it as a technique to confirm the growth of affection into love.
In “Angel Mine”, Barbara Chioffi presents a contemporary story which will interest and engage readers. It offers a thoughtful yet entertaining look at personal relationships with persuasive sympathy and flair.
This shorter read definitely kept my attention. Full of steaminess and a yummy man, where can you go wrong? Jeza is on her own after the grandfather she had been taking care of passes. She has not had the best luck in love. When she comes across Jackson she finds herself wanting him- and needing him. Jackson has his own cross to bare, and not wanting to dive head first into a relationship he would rather be the friends with benefits type of guy. When Jeza's past threatens her future will she lose everything she has been working towards? Or will Jackson come to her rescue? Jackson is definitely yummy.. I wasn't sure at first I thought he was kind of barbaric lol but he redeems himself and boy am I glad. I hope to see more of them as it was a shorter read and I think there is more to see from them. At least I hope...

After the death of her grandfather Jeza opens a bookstore. It had always been her dream. At the gun range Jeza meets Jackson Stone a cope new in town. She invites him to visit her at the bookstore for coffee. She finds herself wanting to flirt with him and learn more about him. Jackson isn't looking for a relationship. Friends with benefits works for him. He had been hurt once before and wasn't looking for a repeat. When Jeza's past comes back will Jackson be there to pick up the pieces?
Wow Jackson was one hot alpha male. Loved him. Jeza was a strong women. But she couldn't resist Jackson. Not that I could blame her. This is a short read and the book wraps up nicely at the end. But would love to have more of Jeza and Jackson. If only for the smoking hot sex scenes.
Angel Mine is an exhilarating short romantic suspense. Jeza and Jackson form an automatic attraction and have been through the ringer with past relationships. However they can’t fight their attraction and grow closer with each page. Jeza starts receiving strange phone calls and someone pays her an unexpected visit. The nail biting starts here… In eleven chapters Chioffi displays diverse talent – suspense, sizzling romance, and full characters. The novella is a quick, focused, and fast-paced read that left me wanting to read more of her work. Astounding new author! P.S. Already bought her second book!
Jackson is a sexy cop, who cooks and protects. Jeza is a lonely bookstore owner who has lost her family. Both of these people are a bit skittish about trusting, because of bad relationships in the past. But when Jeza needs help, Jackson doesn't hesitate to come to her rescue. This is a sizzling hot short, and a very easy, quick read. If you're looking for something steamy you can read in an hour, or so, this story is perfect! :-)
I loved this book. Great story, yes, there's some violence and some sex. The best part of this story was the feeling of triumph. The two main characters have been hurt,I simply identified with this character Leza. Not so much as this specifically happened to me but her overall vulnerability. Jackson the other main character has been hurt but is so strong and good, your totally on his side. Great story telling with a big twist. Thanks, for the time to write it!
I hadn't read any of Barbara Chioffi's work until this evening, but I've been getting a lot of promptings from a good friend - and now I see why. Although "Angel Mine" isn't my usual choice of reading material, I was gripped by the fast-forward pace that works so well in a story of this length. Ms Choioffi's writing is a pleasure too. Do I want more of Jeza and Jackson? Yes, please! More of Ms Chioffi's work? Heck, yeah!
This was my 1st book by this Author!! Wow even tho a short story, she hit this out of the park! The book was filled with great characters and all well developed. I am looking forward to reading more of Barbara Chioffi's Books!
I recommend this book!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! 5 Stars
This story is erotica, although I didn't realise that when I bought it. However, I enjoyed reading it as it was a love story too. The main character Jackson and Jeza were very likeable and each had their own story of heartbreak to tell. It was simple in plot, but enough to draw the reader in and want to route for the characters. It was also a nice quick read, which suited me.
I liked the story. It was a short and sweet story of two people who had been hurt in love finding each other and falling in love. Some parts were hurried and spanned several months in a few short sentences. But over all it was an enjoyable short read.
