With evil star empires, Celtic-Asian space pirate triads, ancient battleships, super-soldier clones, telepathic assassins, professional torturers, desperate mercenaries, massive space fleets, Royal families, out-of-control corporations, Quantum wizards, and sex-bots; The Nightsong series is intended for space opera fans who are all grown up, but still young at heart.
Hard to review a book I wrote, but I do want to start the ball rolling, here. The two reviews Nightfall has already received (both five-star) both call it a sword-and-sorcery fantasy-in-space.
This is a High-Action Adults Only Sword-Swingin'Space Opera.
I have been a sword-fighter (in real life) for 25 years+. A master of many styles and techniques, from Japanese to European Renaissance, to French Florentine, to horse-style half-plate, hand-and-a-half sword, longsword with shield, and two-handed, and many more. I do believe I bring across the details of my sword fights with more precision and clarity than any other novel, even Princess Bride, and far and away better than any other sc-fi series. I have listed Nightfall (even though it is clearly sci-fi and space opera) under Amazon's "Superheroes" category, because it fits. All three main characters have some kind of "superpower," be it telepathy, super-healing, or Quantum-magic. I would recommend this series to all fantasy fans, even though it is technically sci-fi. Also to fans of space opera. If you REALLY like all the theoretical exposition on David Brin, not so much =} This is a High-Action Adults Only Sword-Swingin'Space Opera.
