This typical high school hang-out turns dark when Ryan finds an anonymous note in his jacket pocket, warning him to keep Stacey safe.
When he fails to heed the note, Stacey is nearly struck by an incoming truck. Just as the note predicted. However, a stranger, Kelsey, is there to save her in time, disappearing as suddenly as she appears. She’s also a dead ringer for Stacey.

I’m so impressed that Snapshot is Anne Hildebrand’s debut novel. I already have a soft spot for books involving time travel and magical realism, so the premise immediately intrigued me, but what I loved most was that the time travel isn’t really the heart of this story. It’s the vehicle that gets us there.
At its core, Snapshot is about character growth, the choices we make, and the ways grief and shame can shape our lives when we don’t process them in healthy ways. It explores how one decision can ripple outward in ways we could never anticipate and definitely left me thinking about the seemingly small choices we make every day.
Think Back to the Future meets The Butterfly Effect, but with a coming of age story and a lot of emotional depth woven in.
There is some intentional confusion early on as the different pieces of the timeline begin to unfold, but stick with it, the story comes together really well. I correctly predicted a few of the reveals, while others completely surprised me, which made this a quick and engaging read.
The ending tied everything together nicely, although I found myself wanting more, not because the story felt unfinished, but because I wasn’t quite ready to leave these characters. I was also left with a few questions that made me wonder…perhaps Anne has more of this story to tell?
Overall, a beautifully crafted debut that clearly had so much thought and care put into it. I’m incredibly appreciative to Anne for sending me an ARC and trusting me with her story.

I'm a true crime fan, have been my entire life. Once in a great while I come across a recommendation and I have to give it a try. Snapshot is one of those books. I am so glad I took the chance on this one. It was absolutely fantastic. The characters and the story line grabs you immediately and doesn't let go, even after it is over. I felt every emotion possible reading Snapshot, from "aww so cute" to " No, don't let that happen" and everything in between. This book takes you on a journey of what was, what could have been and what may have been, such an emotional rollercoaster, from joy to disappointment and everything in between. I don't think many fictional writers can make not only the story come alive but also the characters, in a way you truly want the best outcome and when or if that doesn't happen, you feel some type of way, Anne is that kind of writer. I highly recommend adding Snapshot to your list of must-read books, truly a great read!

I really did enjoy this book. I think it was well written and the characters were all really good. I really didn't know a thing about the book (which I do on purpose) and I really think it made the book that much better not knowing a thing about it.
My only critique is that I found the first 25% or so confusing with the time jumps. It took me a minute to mentally plan out where they were. But that could very much just be a me issue (because I am kind of dumb lol).
Great debut! I cannot wait to see what Anne does next!

I tend to read more fantasy and science fiction however I was surprised by how quickly the characters in Snapshot grabbed my attention. The main trios journey felt real combining devestating lows and heart warming highs. Highly recommend Snapshot.

love me a time travel story 🥴 this book did so many things well — it made me love and root for every character, it stuck the landing on the cyclical nature of time travel, and it made me feel intensely for everyone. i am so fully on team kelsey ❤️
