With Visions of Red: Broken Bonds Book One

Passion and lust ignite. Dark and light battle. This explosive first installment of the Broken Bonds series sets the exhilarating pace for a cat and mouse game where no one knows who’s really pulling the strings.

Criminal profiler Sadie Bonds knows blood. Her affair with the gruesome, dark world of killers began long before she started applying her analytical skills to investigate gory crime scenes. She gets inside the killers’ heads, breaks them down, relates to them on an arcane level. She prefers it this way—because it’s safer to ally herself with the villain than the victim. At least, that’s how she’s coped ever since she was abducted and tortured as a teen.

She will never be a victim again.

Now, she’s honed her skills in order to bring justice to these ritualistic offenders. Working alongside her colleagues, armed with sharp wit and a SIG, Sadie always catches her sadist. Until one ruthless serial killer gets inside Sadie’s head, turning the tables. He knows her secrets. Her obsessions. The darkest, most deviant part of her soul.

When she meets Colton Reed, dangerous stakes are raised as he threatens to unravel her control and reveal her darkest fantasies. The sexy-as-sin bondage rigger at an exclusive BDSM club pushes her boundaries, forcing her to acknowledge that side of herself she fears. Plunged into a realm of torture and suffering, pain and pleasure, Sadie balances on the razor-sharp edge of two intersecting worlds threatening to swallow her.

This was good! Still unresolved case but I’ve got my suspicions…

Also I was NOT expecting this to be our mmc tho. I have to say it was a nice surprise icl 🤭❤️‍🔥

Sadie is our criminal profiler. She’s complicated to get a good read on but I like her character. At least, I do, from what I’ve read so far. Also omg I feel so bad for her that she always gets obsessive ppl dying after her. Like give her a damn break jeez.

Colton our mf rope connoisseur. MY MANZZZZ. *sigh* this guy considers Sadie his entire world. He is OBSESSED and in my books that’s enough skshskskhs
But I don’t know a lot about him yet to determine if his sketchy history backs up my theories…

And the whole thing with the ropes and bondage is actually fun to read about?? It’s the most explicit I’ve read from Trisha and I’m loving ittt.

Gosh look at my rating sticking out like a Cheetos puff in a green salad, but eh, I gotta be true to my Cheeto heart.

This came off as a parody of Hannibal, the TV show.

With Visions in Red is about a criminal profiler, Sadie Bonds and I betcha her name is a word play of sorts for BDSM. Anyway, she has this Will Graham-esque ability to get into the killer's head while in the crime scene. It is an interesting bend in characterization if written well, but here it was shallow and uninspired. Sadie's thought process is disorganized and her deductions are somewhat outlandish that if there were no blatant references to her personal experiences, they'd be nonsensical. Well, come to think of it, she's not even fit to be a criminal profiler since she's psychologically unstable. She frequently zones out reliving her nightmares while in the crime scene, I wonder why anyone would put stock to her "analysis".

To blow off some steam, she goes to an underground BDSM club where she meets Shibari (Japanese art of rope bondage) expert Colton Reed. He is convinced Sadie is a goddess in need of a good bondage and some artful flogging. It's interesting to note that one of the first pieces of evidence in a serial crime she's investigating is a specialty rope, and if I were to use my deductive reasoning,a Shibari expert will be the very person I'd be wary of.Just saying, but of course Sadie is not wary at all because dude he calls her goddess. You gotta trust a man who calls you that, regardless of meeting him in seedy BDSM club.

Then we have the shoddy writing. I usually do not mind the fragmented, staccato writing when it suits the character POV, but in With Visions of Red it just seemed lazy. There were also noticeable grammatical errors that somewhat tainted the credulity of the medical explanations in the book.

The name Bonds is cheesy for someone into bondage. It sounds like a lame porno name. Anyway Sadie Bonds is a profiler. Just like every other novel with a female cop, she chose the profession because of her twisted, abusive past. Completely unoriginal. A killer was torturing, possibly raping, and killing women. Of course this got her all worked up about her own issues. To deal with her pain, she went to a BDSM club where Colton was instantly attracted to her and had her all figured out just from watching her across the room. It was fucking ridiculous. Instalove at its finest.

****spoilers****

Colton crossed her path in the course of her investigation. She didn't even verify that he was at work at the time of the murder to rule him out as a suspect. Instead she met up with him socially that night. How professional of her. After discovering that he was into bondage and used a similar material to the one the killer was, the thought never crossed Sadie's mind that he had the potential to be a suspect. But he was good looking, and good looking people don't commit crimes. Sadie started acting like some idiotic teenage girl with a crush. She should have been focusing on the job. People were dying which was far more important than her sex kinks.

Sadie was called to a crime scene and didn't have time to change out of her dress. Her partner Quinn was suddenly very interested in her. The two of them reenacted the crime to figure out what happened. During the reenactment, he felt her up and she rubbed her ass into his dick at the fucking crime scene where other cops would have been wandering around if this were realistic. The dead body was probably in close proximity to them as well. WTF? Seriously? This is insanely stupid.

Well, this was good 😍😍
Since I read the blurb I knew it was the right read for me.

Sadie is a profiler, she knows how killers think because she experienced herself how monstrous mankind can be.
What happened to her, twisted her mind and now she can’t enjoy the one thing she would love to.

When women start to die, she gonna have to find the killer. She can’t afford distraction, and Colton Reed is exactly that....

The story is absolutely captivating!
Fast paced, it kept you on the edge trying to understand who is lying.
I loved the fact the author added the killer' pov because it made the reading more interesting.
And I loved how she molded the thriller part with the erotic one.
The bondage is an important element in the story. It has a deep meaning. And I appreciated it.

I can’t wait to dive in the others two chapters to know what gonna happen 🤩

P.s oh my Colton 😍😍😍
He is amazing but he hide something and I need to know what!!

4 'Tie Me Up' Stars

Sadie Bonds was brought into a world of pain and blood at the young age of sixteen. Bound and tortured for days she is left her with the ability to get inside the heads of monsters. It also left her with a need to be bound and freed from her mind. Feeling like she is broken for wanting something so dark she tries ignoring her needs. But when her newest case brings her to Colton Reed's doorstep and he offers to give her the release she craves, she can't deny herself any longer.

Sadie is on the hunt for a serial killer who tortures and kills young females. The crime scenes all bring her back to those days of being held captive and it drives her into Colton's arms - and ropes. The killer is playing a dangerous game with Sadie, and feels connected to her somehow. Sadie is chasing the killer. The killer is after Sadie. And only one of them will be caught.

This was such an intriguing story and I can't wait to get to the next book. I loved how Trisha Wolfe gave us not only Sadie and Colton's POV but also had little parts of the UNSUB's too. Sadie was really smart and I liked reading about her knowledge of history and serial killers. It was fun how Elizabeth Bathory, one of the most prolific female serial killers, was mentioned and was connected to the case. I wrote a paper on her in college so I just thought that was cool.

We didn't get too much of Colton in this first part of the story but I'm looking forward to finding out more about him. He has secrets of his own and I'm dying to find out what they are. He and Sadie together had a lot of chemistry and their scenes were Hot with a capital H.

On to the next one!

So dark, so messed up, so yummy.
The Good
So, this is all Christy's fault. She got me to read With Visions of Red and I blame her for the dirty/scary thoughts she has put into my mind by forcing me to read this book. Like gun to my head force. I was in no position to deny her. If you read her blog, you'd know what I mean. The shit she reads! She scares me. ;)

So we have this fucked up serial killer/rapist who messed with my mind the whole book. Every time we got to see the world and his victims through his eyes, I was both excited and sickened. I'm I the only one who has this fear of reading about a psychopath and agreeing with some of his points or seeing his logic? Oh, that's just me? Never mind. *coughs* Seriously, this killer is all about the pain, blood, and screams. Logic and compassion have not touched this asshat for some time, or ever. That's why I liked him so much! :D

Sadie has gone through some shit. The kind of stuff that would have left me numb and drooling in a corner the rest of my life. But she took her horrible past and decided to use her knowledge of sadistic killers and help bring them to justice. Yay Sadie! You go girl! Now, that's not saying she isn't a little messed up from what happened to her but she hides it well. Until Colton walks into her life with some rope and all too knowing eyes. He sees the real Sadie and he likes what he sees, maybe a little too much. Colton was an odd duck. I am still unsure what to think about him, but I had to give him props for his rope work. He can tie up a body to perfection.

The mystery had me chomping at the bit. The characters are all so gloriously effed up there is no way you can be bored with this one. I just wanted more!
The Bad
I wish Sadie had more control over herself when around Colton. Obviously the stuff that happened to her has made her vulnerable in some areas but I just don't like the excuse of "I can't help myself." It seems too convenient.

I didn't mind the cliffhanger, but I did mind that the book stopped in the middle of the story. That wasn't an ending, that was an incomplete book.
The Snuggly
So dark, so tingly. The sex is kind of messed up because of the situation, but I loved it. There is a lot of bondage and rough play. The peek inside that world was intriguing to say the least. Oh, and there is rape, though not much detail, so be prepared.
Final Thoughts
Wow. Well, that got me out of my reading slump. I can't wait to read the next book because that cliffhanger was killer. We are just getting into the good stuff! Very, highly recommended.

Quotes
“Obsession. It starts with a spark. A flicker. At the strike of a match. Lying dormant in most of us, obsession feasts on the fumes, breathes in the smoky scent, curing around and in on itself. Building. We pet it, nurse it into existence. It is ours. All ours. A coveted perfection. And when it refuses to be ignored, it rages. It roars to life. A building inferno. Consuming. We are but pawns to its deceptive power. Though we attempt to guide it, caress it tenderly into a loving beauty, it can not be controlled. It’s a haunted, vengeful lover. Like a wildfire devouring life within it’s path, we can only follow it’s carnal trail.”

“I now know what evil lurks where even the light is afraid to shine.”

ARC kindly provided by Xpresso Book Tours via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

With Visions of Red is the first part of an erotic thriller trilogy! The story is actually following Sadie Bonds, a police profiler with a huge secret in her past. The story is really nicely set up and the mystery is well designed. The book is mainly written by Sadie's POV, but we have few chapters from Colton's POV and from UNSUB's (murderer) POV which just intensifies the mystery in the plot. I have to point out that the book is more focus on the thriller side than to the erotic side of the story. The crime scenes were well-written and scary!

The writing is nice although there were events in the story that just didn't sum up to me. I don't want to spoiler anything but I find it surprising that the past of Sadie is such a secret when she is working for the police and normally a background check is necessary.

Sadie is very interesting heroine. She tries to fight her demons in her way but she is actually fighting herself. Most of the times she has a clear view of a situation but with this killer roaming around, she seems a bit lost to me. I actually like her. She totally has my attention and I need to know more of her.

Colton is just someone who met Sadie and they have an attraction. It's kind of weird actually the way that he is crazy about her but this is fiction and nothing is impossible. Unfortunately I cannot tell you how I feel about him as I don't feel like I know him. However I believe that this is the purpose of the author for making this book even better.

UNSUB is the murderer of this book. Nobody knows who he is and I can honestly tell you that I cannot even guess it! I doubt every single person in this book besides Sadie! It's really interesting and scary to read his POV.

The book is full of mystery and tension. The crime scenes are so twisted and crazy that I was having chills just to read them. There is sex but it doesn't feel like they are the focus and I like that!

The end of the book was so intense! It stops with an insane cliff-hanger, that leaves you wanted more!

I definitely recommend this book to fans of erotic thriller books!

I added this series to my book list after reading a wonderful review by my friend Cindy, but since I'm unconfortable with the BDSM, that is heavy here, I was postponing and postponing... what an idiot I have been!

It is heavy in BDSM, but the story is so interesting and intriguing that I devoured the pages (I must admit that I skipped a lot where BDSM was too heavy *blush*).

The action is at the same time slow and fast, but really, really interesting!

I have a small thing that made me cringe: the name of the heroine - Sadie Bonds! OMG, it is tailor-made for a book with BDSM!!! It's like the author wanted to stress her sexual preference: Sadie - for Marquise De Sade, and Bonds - for bondage!
But that not the only wink-wink thingy with names here: the hero's surname Reed, also refers to BDSM!!! I'm wondering if Colton has also some such reference, but since English is not my mother-tounge I'm unable to find out! ;)
That was very lame in my opinion! I would prefer if they had normal names without any reference whatsoever!

The story is a hunt for a truly vicious and twisted, but at the same time intelligent and smart serial killer! This sick and twisted person is very present here and he's like a coductor who leads all the other characters in his twisted opera. And, thing that I love in suspense, we get to see his POV!!!

The other characters, Sadie, Colton, Quinn, Avery, Carson are giving chase, but while Sadie has the most insight, all the others are blindsighted by him and his machinations!

Be aware that this book end with a huge cliffhanger and you need to start reading the next one as soon as you finish this one! :)

On to the second book!

5 beautiful, dark and intense Stars!

Holy crap! This will grab you from the very first page and won't let you go even when it ends.

I was expecting dark. I was expecting intense. I was expecting evil. What I wasn't expecting was beauty!!!!!

Trisha's words inject beauty and light into an utterly dark world!!! I found myself constantly re-reading passages in order to savor the beauty of her words.

A favorite excerpt from the mind of the UNSUB:

"Obsession. It starts with a spark. A flicker. At the strike of a match. Lying dormant in most of us, obsession feasts on the fumes, breathes in the smoky scent, curling around and in on itself. Building.

We pet it, nurse it into existence It is ours. All ours. A coveted perfection. And when it refuses to be ignored, it rages. It roars to life. A blazing inferno. Consuming."

*Sigh*

Thank you, Trisha, for your gorgous words. They will be treasured.

If you haven't read this yet...what are you waiting for???

I was gifted an ARC and have left my Honest Review.

Brilliant comes to mind after reading this first in a new series from Trisha Wolfe. She takes us not only into the suspense world with a serial killer but also deep into the BDSM world where a criminal profiler still haunted by her own past with a serial killer meets a mysterious man who craves her and uses his Japanese bondage skills in shibari to give her the release she craves from the nightmares from her past.

Sadie Bonds was abducted by a sadistic killer when she was a teenager. She managed to survive her time with him but not without it leaving not only an outer scar but also with a fascination with blood and a craving for things she’s tries not to think about. She went on to work in the police force and had worked herself up to becoming a profiler with the FBI but instead took a demotion and now works for the Arlington County Police department as their criminal profiler. Most of the men don’t respect her job including her partner Quinn. But when women start turning up dead with plenty of blood surrounding the crime scenes Quinn’s animosity changes when he knows that if they are going to catch this killer that Sadie and her gift of being able to read what story the blood from the victims tells her will be their best bet.

Sadie is such a fascinating character. Her time in captivity with a killer certainly messed with her mind but instead of letting it make her insane she has taken her fascination with blood and used it help find other killers. What she doesn’t realize at the start of this case is it is personal and this killer knows things about her past that no one should.

In the middle of the investigation we are shown Sadie frequents a BDSM club as a voyeur to try and sate the demons in her mind that take over after seeing the horrific things of the murders. It is here she meets the club owner’s brother Colton Reed who is a master at rope bondage – which is one of her triggers from her time with her own abductor. We get Colton’s POV throughout the book and he is one hot sexy Dom but by the end of this book he is still a man of mystery. We haven’t gotten the full story on him yet and I can’t want to see what demons are in his past.

This book does end on a cliffhanger. Normally that would drive me nuts but we were given plenty of story to stew on until the next book. I was fascinated with all the threads of different genres the author weaved throughout this book. Yes, it a romantic suspense at heart but it also soo much more than that and I was entranced from beginning to end.

I love this erotic thriller. The possibility of you might be sleeping with the enemy adds a layer of excitement and suspense to the story. I only with there was more forensic evidence to make the case damning for the MCs. So far it feels circumstantial and not damning enough to make a solid suspect.

The plot and backstory are great though. Our heroine is really in a world of shit right now. Here's to hoping her intellect won't fail her.

4 Red and Bound stars

This is my second Trisha Wolfe book. I was in a dark mood and wanted an erotic dark book. This gave me it. It’s not dark in the typical sense, but it has dark elements.

Sadie was kidnapped when she was younger and that left a lasting impression on her. Today she’s a criminal profiler which can make or not make her job easy.

The book started out with a bang and I was curious about Sadie and her personality. I wanted a complicated Heroine with a damsel complex and I wanted someone to save her from her past pain.

Colton works at an adult club and he’s really good with ropes. I like Colton, I love it when a hero is lusting after a heroine and I couldn’t find any faults in him really.

I liked the parts where Sadie was trying to find the killer and it’s very apparent that Colton is not the killer so get that out of your head.

What I had trouble with was the two separations in the book. One side of the book is Sadie’s work, trying to get into the killer’s mind and going to crime scenes and the other half is Colton, where he plays with her. I really did wished the two would meet. As much as I liked reading about Sadie’s job and how she works, I would have liked some Colton to be in there too.

So it did hinder my experience a bit and I found Sadie’s job kind of dragging the book down a bit. I wanted more of a romance story and because of that, I won’t be jumping into book two anytime soon, but I plan on reading it.

Holy. Fuck.

I'm not sure what to say beyond those words. I hadn't even planned on finishing this tonight, until I realized it was basically a novella. I wish I'd known going in that this was a serial, but I can't even be mad because I know I'm going to read the rest. I want to find out who the killer is, I want to know the connection to Sadie, and I want to see where this goes. I'm hooked. This was intriguing. And hot. And WHERE THE HELL IS THE NEXT INSTALLMENT.

I wish I enjoyed this, but I really didn’t.

I am not a fan of the whole “I like it rough so I must be a monster” mental dilemma. Yes, Sadie has some trauma that compounds her internal struggles, but the book is entirely too short to build a deeper connection with her, and it just comes off a little “I’m so kinky; how could anyone ever understand me?” and it gave me the ick.

I might pick these up again later, but for now, I’m passing on this series.

When I first heard about this idea, I was beyond stoked. I love books that challenge me. That take me out of my comfort zone. With Visions of Red is a dark and intense read. This is something so different from what Trisha Wolfe usually gives us, and I could not wait to dive in.

With Visions of Red starts off with a bang. I was pulled in and on the edge of my seat from the very first page. The prologue: so intense. I couldn’t pull my eyes away from the pages. I had to read what was happening. I was completely captivated by what Sadie was going through. I knew when I got through that prologue that this book was going to be amazing and let me tell you, Trisha Wolfe did not disappoint.

As I already stated, this book is so different than anything Trisha Wolfe has given us before. She took a huge risk and in my opinion, it paid off. I was so impressed with the way Trisha got inside the Unsub’s head. I felt like I was right along side him, living his thoughts, feeling what he’s feeling. I was so captivated by the story-line. At times, it felt like I was watching an episode of Law and Order: SVU. It was that good!

With Visions of Red is well written and captivating. It is dark, it is sexy, it is intense. The characters have amazing chemistry. They are so easy to connect with, so easy to get lost in. You will find yourself asking questions, and believe me, I have a lot of them. You will try your hardest to figure out what is going on and you will be waiting in anticipation to see what will happen next.

The ending….let’s talk about that for a minute. I think things wrapped up pretty nicely. There is no huge cliffhanger, but more like a stay tuned. My curiosity is definitely peaked. I’m left wanting more. I need to know more. I need to know who the unsub is. And Sadie, I felt such a strong strength and determination from her. She’s got to finally face the past and her fears.

With Visions of Red is an exciting, heart-pounding new series from Trisha Wolfe. I’m excited to see where the next book will take us. I can’t wait to find out what lies ahead for Sadie. I just can’t wait to read more.

Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows, so when my girl Yaya said this series was similar, and couldn't stop talking about it, I knew this series was next on my list.

There are two storylines to this book - the gruesome murders, and the Lair, a BDSM club. How the two connect is through our heroine, Sadie, who has had a tortured past that has molded her present behavior.

So, let me breakdown the two.
I loved the story of this serial killer, as in, it is truly fucked up! Who the UNSUB is copying, why he is doing it, what his connection to Sadie might be, all of it was wildly clever.

Then there is the sex club. Colton has a serious sexy vibe that is hard to ignore. Add his Shibari skills and Sadie can't stay away either, even if he may be the prime suspect. There are a lot of connections between him and the crimes, which had me flipping back and forth, is he the killer, or is he being set up? This book won't give you those answers.

The only part of the book that gave me pause was Sadie's professionalism. She admittedly isn't right in the head, turned on by the crimes she is witness to, but on top of that, I doubted her abilities as a profiler often. Some of this was intentional by the author, as these crimes are bringing up old memories for Sadie. But her transitions from crime scene to the sex club seemed very selfish. Heeeellllooo, serial killer on the loose! Get your head straight! Yes, I may have been yelling this at my kindle.

Either way, the author has me hooked, so it is on to book 2.

Review
It has taken me a couple of days to write this review because I have no words for the awesome that is in this book.

I love Sadie.  She's struggling with who she is, and the murders aren't really helping with that.  She is trying to be as strong as possible, but fears what she can become.  There's a dark side to Sadie, and she doesn't know if it's because of what happened in her past, or if she's always had it lurking beneath.

Colton is amazing.  He's hot, caring, and ultimately infatuated with Sadie.  He notices her at a club, but the timing couldn't be worse as the string of murders starts providing suspicions.

I really can't say more because I think that will take the enjoyment out of your reading.  With Visions of Red is hot, steamy, sexy, dark, twisted, and provides a lot of mind-fuckery.  I couldn't put it down, and got wrapped up in the lives of Sadie and Colton.

Holy hotness! Trisha Wolfe has blown my mind with this new book in her Broken Bonds series! With Visions of Red follows Sadie, a criminal profiler, who is working on a case, that unsettles her deepest fears and desires. She finds her way back to an erotic club and into the clutches of Colton, the sexy, mysterious guy that wants to make her his.

This book has all the elements that I love in a dark romantic thriller! There is an intense relationship building between Colton and Sadie. They explore a number of sexual desires that Sadie desperately wants to experience. I was introduced to the art of Shibari and how sexually erotic it can be. It has a thrilling storyline that has you on edge, and especially when you venture into the mind of the killer. There are numerous twists and turns that will keep you guessing and trying to figure out who the killer is!!

I LOVED every moment of reading this book. Trisha Wolfe has developed this captivating world that I lost myself in. The characters are twisted in their own ways, they are still withholding so much from each other and from the reader as well. I met a lot of secondary characters, and I have no clue on whether or not they can be trusted! I have so many theories and questions that I need answers too! I WANT THE NEXT BOOK!! Trust me people, you do not want to miss out on this one!!

Hmmmm....

For some reason I have an urge to go to Home Depot.

There's a sale on rope.

5 KINKY STARS!

I no longer put what books I'm reading down on goodreads because lately, I've gotten extremely slow, but the truth is, I've been reading this book for about four weeks. This has nothing to do with the author's extraordinary storytelling. It's just that I'm on deadline, in revision, and my reading time has been cut to nothing. I get about one hour each night. Now do the math.

Okay, enough about my nonsense.

This is about Trisha Wolfe being a badass. This story kept me turning the pages. Yeah, it took me four weeks, but guess what? I read a portion every night because it kept me coming back. The mystery is wonderful. The writing is beautiful. The pacing is spot on. The characterization is stellar. I loved Sadie!!!! A wonderful heroine. I cannot recommend this book enough. And now we have another installment coming at us VERY soon.

OH! How could I forget Colton--Frickentastic--Reed. Talk about hot. CRAZY. SEXY. Oh, yeah. He's got it going on. Yes. There is sex in this book and the author does not shy away from being extremely naughty...and KINKY. :-)

Apart from all the raves and wows about kinky sex, this is a murder mystery, and Trisha Wolfe does scare me in her ability to slip inside a psycho's head. This is just a testament of her talent.

This is my first Trisha Wolfe book and I can say with confidence it will not be my last! Her writing is fluid, poetic even, and it pulls you in from the first page right until the last.

Sadie and Colton have a chemistry that flies off the page. Most times I'd get lost in their world, feel what they do, and it was an incredible ride.

This is book one and ends in a sort of cliffhanger, trust me you'll be needing book two immediately!

Beautiful words and an intense, wonderfully written book!
