No Missing Tools: Creativity In An Age Of Abundance

Rate this book
No Missing Tools explores what it means to be creative in our contemporary age of abundance, when so many of the tools we need are only a click or search away. With a perceptive eye and drawing from his own experience working in music and photography, Fernando asks us to consider a vibrant universe of ideas about living with a bold awareness of our own creativity.

This book celebrates the way we remake ourselves through understanding our creative motivations, something we often struggle to see clearly. Fernando suggests this is a key step to better understanding how inspiration works and identifying the specific tools we need to be at our most creative. No Missing Tools is a lively, unorthodox guide to being more aware of our creativity.

No Missing Tools is a title that intrigued me and I'm glad to say that Fernando Gros didn't disappoint in the least. It's not often that I find a book about creativity which nicely balances practical, doable advice and real-life examples from both research and personal experience. This is a truly multi-faceted author, with that list of work done and cities lived in! What a rich resource for a lucky reader.

The usual complaint is that there is no time to be creative or to solve problems in a creative manner, i.e., by experimenting. Gros points out time and technology have given us so many, many tools and examples that negates this excuse. Although misuse or abuse of either will kill creativity in its totality, how to go about finding that balance and a clear path towards tapping into, developing, then maintaining that creative spark is throughly explained here.

A different way of looking at things is not relegated to artists or "creative types" but is a seed planted within all of us at birth. It's been carefully and systematically smothered by a society that cuts down upstarts and regulates difference. No Missing Tools gives us the means to regain our creativeness - in all forms - and lead a richer, more interesting life.
