Whether he likes it or not, it's time for Willy John Jones to take a bath! But when he gets into the tub, he finds not only warm water and bubbles but . . . a duck? Three turtles? A dolphin and an octopus? Willy's tub looks more like an aquarium than a place to take a bath. How will he ever get clean? In this unique picture book, stepped pages add a new creature to Willy's bathtub with each turn of the page. Pascale Constantin's lively illustrations will provide additional fun for any young reader's bathtime routine.
LOVE the illustrations. The rhymes are excellent too. And the kids loved it at story time! Funny, some kids seem bothered by the 'split' pages but overall a great success!
pretty long book, but good, it's about a boy who is scared to take a bath because there are creatures in the tub, then he gets in after his mom prompts over and over and doesn't want to get out - he plays with the octopus and other creatures.
Willy is reluctant to take a bath, but once he gets in, he doesn't want to get out!
I read this to a preschool storytime group, and the kids got a big kick out of Willy and the animals. Was it his imagination, or did his bath toys really come to life?
The cadence of the text falters only a couple of times, so it's fun to read out loud with a little bit of practice. The pages are different sizes--going from small to large and back down again, which adds interest to the pictures that develop from one page to another.
My son really enjoyed this one. I enjoy when authors use clever tools, like partial pages, to tell their stories. It was funny to see the 3.5 year old not "get" the punchline. But, it doesn't matter with a fun bath-time book.
willy doesn't want to take a bath because it seems his bathtub is already full of animals large and small. What are those animals and how did they get there. Will Mom's voice and nagging ever get him in and out of the tub? Cue twist on the animals
I don't know how well this would work for a larger group, since a lot of what's happening in the story is in the pictures, but the illustrations are SUPER cute. I've seen some people use flannel board stuff with it, that might help with larger groups...I would use this, though. Adorable.
I like the way this book was formatted but I'm not sure the my 2 and 3-year-olds in my storytime really understood it. I'm going to try it with my preschool storytime Wednesday and see if they appreciate it more.
How can Willy get in the tub when it's already so crowded? Hee. This is a cute choice for a bath time themed storytime--the rhyming text and cut pages add interest.
Willie John Jones is stalling before taking his bath, but when a variety of animals join him, his mother has a hard time getting him out of the bathtub.
