“After some time, I could talk to people, but I couldn't say your name. I couldn't put your name next to how I was feeling. There was something broken, and I just . . . didn't think anyone could believe me.

So I wrote it down instead. I wrote this all for me . . . For you.”

If Trisha could summarize in one word her entire past relationship with Aaron, "The Baron," it'd be a long, sarcastic "thanks." For most of his life, Aaron Madison glorified being the butt of every joke, but after meeting Trisha four years ago, everything had changed.

If there was a time to speak, it was now.

I've literally tried to write this review 3 times but I don't know how to put my feelings about this book into words. To say I loved it was an understatement, it affected me quite a bit.

Firstly, Aaron is nothing like any male love interest I've read about. He's overweight, he's a weirdo. As a reader, I paid attention to Aaron along with Trisha. The writing let me make sense of the little weird things he did. I felt as if I followed Trisha's way of understanding him little by little, and consequently, fell in love with Aaron's character along with her.

But Trisha has a boyfriend, actually, an ex- boyfriend that she's trying to reel back in. She feels that she is meant to be with him, after all, he's her first love. She stays friends with Aaron, and between them are moments that are everything from heart-warming to soul crushing.

I loved reading almost every single scene. The way the author describes the character's family, houses, the way they live, what they do, it makes me feel like I know the character SO WELL. The journey they both went on and the decisions they both made, makes for a beautiful story that I think everyone should read.

Lots of stuff happened in the book, and that with the emotional depth and beautiful writing, made it a very entertaining read.

I'm going to be honest here...this book surprised me. It really was like going to a high school and observing one student and her interactions with her peers; it felt that realistic to me. Yes, there were some typos--mostly revolving around homonyms (your/you're, cord/chord, passed/past)--but I see those in most books so that doesn't actually affect my rating. No, really, the four star rating comes from the book being really good, but not fantastic. It's a first novel, and it's a good one. I look forward to seeing how Brista grows and develops as her writing career continues. As someone who lives around the same area as where this story takes place, I loved all the little setting details that made the story feel more real...as well as making me think back on some of my own trips to Cedar Point, The Palace Theater, and even my time in the State Fair Band. So, I'm looking forward to reading more by Brista Drake in the future.

Question, though...in case I somehow missed it...the synopsis on the back cover of my paperback refers to Aaron as "The Baron"...was that ever explained in the book?

I would recommend this book to my friends. Even for a fantasy obsessed reader like me, it's nice to occasionally stray into other genres. This is a great YA coming-of-age book.

I picked this up to support the author Brista Drake who I have watched on YouTube for some time now. I was very happy with how good it turned out to be. The story is not the normal kind of thing I would read but I found it to be very well written and realistic ( all be it with a level of melodrama that stops it becoming dull at any point). I will not say much about the story as you can read about that above. But overall I would recommenced the book to anyone who reads YA, or romance novels. I was very impressed that this is the authors first novel added to that the fact that she has not only written it but illustrated it as well. Very impressive! Now this review might be a bit biased but the only way you will be able to tell if it is or not is to pick the book up and give it a read for yourself! :)

Remedy For Memory by Brista Drake. What a wonderful debut novel. The characters are wonderful, the plot is paced so well, and there are even illustrations done by Brista herself throughout the book! The emotion is high, tense, but also lovely and romantic at times. I think it really speaks to modern youth being 19 myself. It was a great read and I definitely recommend it. If you like YA or romance-esque novels, or just a good story about the life then definitely give this a shot. It warmed my heart and broke it at the same time. I read it straight through in like 4 and a half hours and loved it all! I look forward to what is coming in the future from the brilliant storyteller, Brista Drake.

Wasn't sure what I was in for when I picked this up (I follow WritingMime on youtube) and was pleasantly surprised by one of the weirdest relationships I'd ever read in a novel. And even though I say weird, its probably more typical than not (compared to the idealistic romances that are common in YA).

How do I even start putting my thoughts on this book into words?
Well obviously I loved it, as you can see by the five star rating.
I went into this book with absolutely no idea what to expect since I had only picked it up in order to support Brista Drake who I think is an awesome person. But what I didn't know was just how FANTASTIC of a writer she is! You see, this was the first self published novel I have ever read and I was in fact a bit skeptical.
The first thing that comes to my mind about this book is that I have yet to find a flaw.
The way the story was written made me forget that this wasn't in fact a journal written by a girl named Trisha but a novel. I don't know how she did it but Brista Drake created characters in this novel that I can honestly say are the most realistic I have ever read. I couldn't help but picture them walking through the halls of my own high school as if they belonged there. The dialogue felt more realistic to me than anything I had every read before and I can only applaud Brista for her brave and unique way of writing it.
The complicated relationship between Trisha and Aaron was something that we probably all know from our own high school years but doesn't seem to be represented in YA literature.
As for the writing style in this book it did such a great job capturing the very essence of that confusion they feel
that I can only describe it as brilliant.

This book was a stunning debut novel and I can only recommend it to anyone who wants a refreshingly honest new form of YA contemporary.

Brista Drake has created a unique YA novel that leans toward literary fiction with its focus on slowly revealing, rather than evolving her characters, and the story's strong focus on these characters with the plot serving as a backdrop. The character of Aaron was a pleasant surprise, as he is what you might expect the quirky friend of the love interest to be like, rather than the love interest himself. I like how at first, I assumed him to be an unimportant side character, and then he turned out to be much more than that. He has a lot of charm, and if it wasn't for the fact that Trisha liked him, I might not have liked her as much, actually. But the fact that she sees the potential in a person such as him, makes her more sympathetic.

There's a good amount of realism to how Brista portrays her characters, dialogue, and even storyevents. The drama largely lies within a highly emotional young woman, rather than external events, which might turn some people off this story. I'm a little torn, as at times, the plot events get a little too mundane for me, and I feel like I'm reading an autobiography rather than a novel. And sometimes we get so deep into Trisha's head, that I loose my grip on what exactly is going on. For these reasons I cannot give this five stars, but then I suppose it's largely a matter of taste. I like how the story focuses on Aaron and Trisha, and though the side characters get a little anonymous, it's okay, as I'm mostly interested in the dynamic between these two anyway.

In short: Good book. Looking forward to the next one.

4.5 stars. This is a young adult novel that doesn't feel forced, which is sometimes hard to pull off. It had a different feel to it than many other YA books I've read, and it was just refreshing. The writing style was very natural and I could easily picture the characters interacting with one another. I won't get into the plot too much, but I was impressed. It was more character driven and worked very well. There is a lot to think about with this story.

Remedy For Memory is a fast read and is definitely worth picking up. The whole book is an emotional roller coaster that will always leave you wanting to read the next chapter.

The things that shone the most were the emotions and the characters. They both go hand and hand because you feel a different slew of emotion for both characters.

Even if you aren't a big fan of romance, I would still recommend reading it if not for the sheer enjoyment and realism of the characters.
