⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 STARS!

The Scarlet Fox Lures absolutely delivered! 🦊✨

The shocking twists and turns had me constantly questioning what was coming next. Maegwen Salley Massie has created such a brilliant magical world, and I love these incredibly clever children navigating their magical school. There’s always something happening, and somehow each book manages to raise the stakes even more.

And Sealyn?! She continues to rise up, take names, and kick butt—and I am HERE FOR IT. 🔥

Book 5 definitely brings some lust and tension, but I loved how Maegwen captured it without needing all the spice. It added another layer to the story while still keeping the focus on the characters and the magic.

And now I NEED to know what Corentine is up to! 👀 That ending has me way too curious.

Another fantastic installment in the series, and I am officially impatient for Book 6! I need to know what happens next! 🦊✨📚

I could literally not stop listening to this book!

After the cliffhanger from book 4, I have been on pins and needles about what happens next, and this did not disappoint! I am honestly kind of speechless because I don't know what to say that won't spoil it.

I will say that the "woman at the well" scene is absolutely heartbreaking! This series goes through the seven deadly sins, and this is the lust book. I was really curious about how the author was going to handle that, and it was so well done! I expected the takeaway, which was that lust is selfish and only looking to your own desires, and love is about focusing on the other person, but I wasn't fully prepared for the reality of the people who get hurt when someone, or a whole society, is only focused on themselves and their pleasure. It's an important message, with how our culture views sex and intimacy.

In contrast, the scenes at the magic school continue to be delightful, and I really want the author to write some middle grade books taking place at a magic school, because I feel like my kids would love those parts of the story, if it wasn't for the more adult nature of the rest of the story.

The narration on the audiobook is fantastic! I love how expressive the narrator is and how he really gets into the action scenes. I don't think there's a single line delivered in a monotone. You can just tell how into the story he is!

Content warnings: As stated, this is the lust book, so there are a lot of seduction, or at least attempted seduction, going on. The innuendo is probably on the level of previous books, but it feels more icky because it's based on lust, not love (you can see the difference, and this is obviously intentional on the author's part). There's heavy implications of a character having been sexually abused in the past, and that abuse and exploitation is a way of life in the kingdom of Havas. There's also both physical and psychological torture.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.25

Wow this book is intense! It picks up where The Honeyed Tongue Deceives ends, with Sealyn imprisoned and enduring extreme torture, while Jace and her other friends try their best to reassemble and determine if she's even alive.

The world-building in this series continues to amaze me. The author describes the setting, characters, creatures, and food in exquisite detail.

I truly enjoy the development of the many side characters in this series. There are betrayals and deaths, but also beautiful arcs and full circle moments. The academy setting and the younger characters are reminiscent of Hogwarts.

This is probably the toughest book so far in the series for me. There is the brutal execution of children, lots of physical and psychological torture, and, because Havas's curse is lust, some descriptions of both female and male bodies (not graphic, but longing to give into temptation for personal gratification, lusty thoughts, all of which is depicted as immoral and something to resist). Several characters resist the temptation of lust and contrast it with sacrificial love.

"I want more than physical. I want your hopes and dreams to be mine. I want your heart and soul to be mine. I want your every thought to be consumed with me, and I of you. If that’s selfish, then fine, call me selfish...But more importantly, I want to be the one who shows you how to trust, the man who teaches you how to love.”

This book wrapped up a little nicer than the last one. It's enough of a cliffhanger to make me excited for the next one, but also let me breathe a sigh of relief that the characters may get a short reprieve before the next crazy adventure.

This series has drawn me in and I am excited to see where the characters go from here.

Another incredible book in the continuing Emerald Queen series!

This volume in the series may be the most difficult and heartbreaking of them all so far. There’s a lot of betrayal, violence, torture, and death as the battle for the breaking the curses of the seven kingdoms continues. I don’t want to give any spoilers, however, this story does take place partly in a kingdom cursed with lust, so you can imagine some of the situations and themes that might occur within these pages, and some of them are absolutely heartbreaking. I feel like the topics of lust, infidelity, abuse, and temptation were handled respectfully, and I applaud the author for portraying marital loyalty so well. If you want to meet one of the most caring, loyal, protective, and dedicated husband characters that exists in current fantasy fiction, then you should absolutely read this series because he’s in these books.

It’s not all doom and gloom, of course! We still get plenty of witty humor, sweet moments of friendship and love, new adorable and fascinating creatures, and hope for the future. All of it is written so well, and I am definitely eager to continue the story.

I highly recommend this book for mature teenagers and adult readers who enjoy epic fantasy about battling against what is evil and upholding what is right and good. I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook and it was produced extremely well, and I’m super impressed at all the voices by the narrator, as it’s a large cast encompassing both male and female characters of many accents and a wide range of ages and they are all distinct and entertaining to listen to!

Thank you to the author for the eARC and audiobook. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given willingly.

This next chapter in the Emerald Queen series is amazing! With hilarious banter, heartbreaking agony and tear-streaked sobbing, my emotions were all over the place! I adore the camaraderie throughout this story. With the plentiful cast of characters and POVs creating a colorful interlocking tale! I also enjoyed the intensity of this book, as it touched on more mature topics without crossing the line. And now I cannot wait for the next book of the series! If you enjoy books with life or death challenges, Found Family and acts of courage. Then this is a series you don’t want to miss!

My favorite quote from this book:
“Her life means everything to me,” Char growled through his teeth. “I’d gladly give mine in exchange for her to live a life of freedom.”

I received an ARC from the author. All opinions are my own.

we pick up where we left off in book four. sealyn is held captive, jace is trying to survive after being told she died, siany is about to embark on a rescue mission, scarpin is responsible for the knowledge that sealyn may still be alive and the kingdom of Elysian is still under attack from the Stotland Kingdom. So much happens in this one. So much information comes out in this one. The twists, the emotions, and the adventure still continues to flurish as we make our way through the seven kingdoms. Sealyns powers are becoming almost too much to control but with the help of her people she manages to keep the urges in check. As we move into the next kingdom we find that lust without kindness is what plagues this poor kingdom...beauty taking hold. Absolutely recommend the whole series!!

What a book!! I loved this one. The emotion, adventure, mischief, magic, torture - all of it. And Seith? Phew! Love him. Another amazing book in the Emerald Queen Series! I also love that the characters have stayed consistent through all the books. I could go on, but I don't want to give any spoilers. Definitely go read it.
