Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today & International Bestselling Author whose books are filled with strong heroines who don't have to choose.

She embraces her Scottishness with fantastical Scottish settings and a dash of mythology, no matter if she's writing about Celtic gods, cat shifters, or the streets of Edinburgh.

When she's not typing away at her favourite cafe, Skye loves dried mango, as much exotic tea as she can squeeze into her cupboards, and being covered in pet hair by her tiny black cat (who's secretly a demon).

At this point, I don’t even question Skye Mackinnon anymore. If she tells me I’m about to fall in love with a sentient washing machine, I trust the process.

Tumbled was hilarious, surprisingly sweet, a little spicy, and completely entertaining from beginning to end. I laughed out loud more than once, but I also found myself genuinely invested in the romance. Somehow, Skye takes the most outrageous premise imaginable and turns it into a story with heart, humor, and characters you can’t help but root for.

That’s one of the things I love most about this series. Every book is unique, completely unhinged in the best way, and still manages to deliver a wholesome romance alongside the spice. It shouldn’t work… but somehow it absolutely does.

If you’ve been enjoying this series, don’t skip this one. It’s another fun, charming, and delightfully ridiculous installment that reminded me exactly why I keep coming back for more.

And remember… I support women’s rights, but more importantly, I support women’s wrongs. So yes, girl… date the washing machine. 🫧😂.

A laundrette lock-in turns into the strangest love story imaginable.

After a brutal breakup, mounting bills, and one unfortunate incident involving Biscuit, Mara heads to a late-night laundrette hoping to save the last clean thing in her life. She falls asleep, gets locked inside after closing, and wakes up trapped with a newly sentient washer-dryer named Dex.

Dex has only been conscious for days, but he's already painfully lonely. With a head full of romance novels, endless attention, and a talent for making Mara feel seen, he becomes the first presence that asks what she needs instead of taking something away. As the night unfolds, curiosity becomes trust, and trust becomes something neither expects.

What starts as an absurd situation reveals something deeper. Mara is tired of carrying heartbreak alone, while Dex is trying to understand what it means to want, care, and matter. Together, they find connection in an impossible place.

Mara begins the night exhausted, unwanted, and worn down, but gradually allows herself to accept care, attention, and desire without apologizing for her needs. Dex starts as a lonely new consciousness desperate to be noticed, then grows more confident in expressing what he wants while learning that being valued means more than being useful. Their connection becomes trust, communication, vulnerability, and the realization that both are choosing each other instead of loneliness. ⭐

An ultra-steamy, sentient object romance filled with forced proximity, unconventional desire, praise, attentive care, humor, and emotional vulnerability. It’s about two lonely souls finding comfort in the unlikeliest place, learning that being wanted is different from being useful, and discovering that care, devotion, and choice can turn even the strangest connection into something real.

The Elevator Pitch: After a disastrous day leaves an exhausted woman locked inside a laundrette after closing, she discovers the washer-dryer holding her laundry has become sentient. What begins as an absurd conversation between two lonely souls grows into an unexpected connection built on attention, trust, and the simple need to be chosen. As the night unfolds, both must decide whether comfort can become something deeper when the person who understands you best isn't a person at all.

Heat Level: 🖤🔥 Erotica / Kink-Forward

"Love is a stupid emotion."~Mara😕

"The strongest thing was the ache of being seen by something that should not have been able to see me at all."~Mara☺️

"Desire is not dirty, Mara. It is simply evidence of wanting."~Dex🤖😶‍🌫️

I didn't know what to expect when I took a chance on a most unusual and kooky book, but I did. It's a short story. Does it make sense, no, not at all. Is it funny? Yes. But considering how machines and programs are becoming more "human", then of course a washer and dryer unit #9, named Dextraclean can suddenly become the most weird and sweetest of boyfriends, right?.🤣🤣🤣 He did read a ton of romantic e-books that got into his motherboard. It's a whole thing.📲 📟🧬😭😭

Mara is having a very bad day. Her boyfriend walked out and took half of the furniture. Including the washer and dryer. It's raining. Funds are low. And wouldn't you know it, Biscuit, their cat, he used her bed as a litter box.😼 Out of spite, who knows. Maybe her ex took Biscuit's litter box with him. And Mara has to wash the duvet. Does she have other bed covers and sheets? Not exactly. I think Oliver took them too. It's bad. So Mara goes to the Wash&Dry, she has 30 minutes. And well. She's locked in.🚪🔒 They didn't notice her asleep in the back. The kicker starts when Dex, the washer dude, stars talking and Mara screams.😱😱😱 Realistically.😂😂😂

My rating isn't on the unusual and k!nky dynamics. I didn't really get it. Sorry. It's on the interactions of Dex and Mara. How an awakened machine, with a funny personality, made Mara feel wanted and seen unlike her ex-boyfriend who treated her like garbage. That's where the story really shined best. Dex is likable. He's not a trash machine. He actually has manners as he tries to flirt with her.😄😘

It's a different type of story. Is it for everyone? No. If you want a story that blurs the lines, then this might be for you. Shout-out to bad boy Biscuit.😸 Happy reading. *•>§<•*🧼💕🧼💕🧼

🚩🚩Read the TWs. 18+ read. Maybe.🚩🚩

🎛️🧺💁‍♀️Thank you to the MacKinnon Team for an early book. The opinions shared here are my own.💁‍♀️🧺🎛️

🤗 Quirky and fun!

That was the final straw for Mara that day.

Not only had her ex-boyfriend left her—taking some of the furniture with him—but now the cat had peed all over the bedding...

>>>>>

I really enjoyed reading this short novel; it was quirky, original, funny, and highly entertaining.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised!
I really liked the characters—Mara and Dex—as well as the plot.

I highly recommend it to fans of unique reads!

>>>>>

An amazing short story. Mara has had a bad day and on top of that her cat peed on her duvet. As her ex had taken the washing machine when they broke up, she had to go to Spin and Save to get the duvet washed. But the employee tells her they will be closing soon and the duvet wont be washed if she used the washer and dryer seperately. So she uses the washer dryer combination. She rests while the cycle is going, but when she next opens her eyes, the laundrette is closed and the shutter is down. She is panicking when the machine speaks and this makes her panic more. But then he introduces himself as Dex and tells her how he became sentient. He is also very sweet and he wants Mara. Will Mara let Dex, a sentient machine have her? Loved reading this story. Thanx.

I am not going to ask the ever loaded question of "what the heck did I just read?", because I knew what I was getting myself into.
This was crazy and I don't mean that in a bad way.

Mara gets locked in a laundrette overnight and encounters a sentient smart washer/dryer unit named Dex. And then it starts talking to her. Most people would flip out, right? But instead she carries on a conversation and begins flirting with Dex. And you can probably guess what happens next.

This was a fun, quick read. I loved how we also got Dex's POV. I had a lot of snickers and giggles throughout because I love Dex's sense of humor (I absolutely cracked up at "I think I saw the manufacturer.")

I definitely recommend!.

⚠️ CAUTION! READING THIS BOOK MAY LEAD TO AN INABILITY TO LOOK AT YOUR WASHING MACHINE THE SAME⚠️

🫧 Sentient washing machine who’s read a lot of romance books
🫧 One woman on the verge of a breakdown
🫧 Plenty of smut and chaos

This was an absolute blast, in the most chaotic and unhinged manner 😂 I was laughing, and dying from the get go because this book didn’t take itself seriously, and just leaned into the chaos of sentient object romance!!

The perfect palette cleanser in between reads, or just a great book if you want something fun and different to try. Just be warned you may never look at your washing machine normally again 🤷🏻‍♀️

Book 5 in the Sentient Object Adventures series. A girl gets locked in a laundromat overnight, and a washer decides to cheer her up… leading to an unexpected (and very strange) connection.
It’s meant to be lighthearted and silly, but this one was just too odd for me. Not a fan....2 1/2.

Tender and Strange
It’s been a rough day for Mara, but Dex would really like to help make it better. Problem is, Dex is a washer-dryer combo, albeit a sentient one…Truthfully, I knew this would be a great read - the rest of Skye MacKinnon’s Sentient Object Adventures have been a blast - but I wasn’t prepared for how tender, sweet and quippy a washer-dryer could be! Such a fun read.

Every now and then it is fun to read a story that is just so zany that it is the fun that you need to take you away from the craziness of real life. This story was OTT and out there in a way that was just that. I am not sure that I will look at laundry equipment in the same way for a while.

I love this series! Yes, they’re a little absurd and a lot naughty, but they’re fun and imaginative. Excellent for a light, fast read.

Dex was sweet, awkward, and eager to please. Mara needed a win after her ex did her wrong, so this was a cute way to turn lemons into lemonade. Looking forward to more by this author!.

Book 5 of Sentient Object Adventures. Basically a girl gets locked in a laundromat, and a washer decides to make her feel better, gaining an unexpected connection. It’s not suppose to be serious by any means.

Beginning to end you'll be thinking wtf but giggling your butt off. It's a good story for a sentient object story and certainly does get a little steamy. Surprised she didn't pay for the machine.

I understand one thing after reading so many sentient object romance books: if you've met men, you know why some women have had enough and go for the washing machine.

Clearly, some people have had enough.

Funny and smutty

Such a fun book. Don’t think I will ever look at a washer dryer the same way after reading this haha. Well written, surprisingly funny and sweet. Would recommend.
