Biting cold, thick fog and frigid, torrential rain… The perfect recipe for misery. The perfect cocktail for a deadly battle of wits.
Near the end of the bitter Aleutian winter, a Soviet weather aircraft is shot down over the Japanese-held island of Attu. What few realize is that the five crewmembers aboard are not ordinary airmen, but members of a crack Soviet intelligence team carrying information vital to the coming Allied offensive.
The Japanese know something is different… and they're determined to find the survivors before anyone else.
Captain Art Turner and USS Bull Shark arrive in the Aleutians on a secret mission of their own—to harass Japanese forces, gather intelligence, and disrupt enemy plans before the Americans return in force. Instead, Turner receives unexpected find the missing Soviets and bring them home.
With Soviet Naval Intelligence commander Andrei Reznikov and a hand-picked landing party aboard, Bull Shark slips into some of the most dangerous waters in the Pacific. Japanese patrols scour the islands. Enemy aircraft search the skies. And somewhere beneath the icy seas, a relentless Japanese submarine waits patiently for the perfect opportunity to strike.
To save the trapped Soviets, Turner must risk everything—launching a daring diversion while his men search enemy-held Attu. But every hour brings his unseen adversary closer, until the hunter becomes the hunted.
Now, with time running out and nowhere left to hide, two submarine commanders meet in a deadly contest of courage, skill, and cunning beneath the freezing waters of the Aleutians.
Only one will survive.
In this gripping WWII naval thriller, Scott W. Cook takes readers into one of the Pacific War's harshest and least-known campaigns, where survival depends not on firepower… but on the courage to gamble everything against an enemy you cannot see.
The thing I really enjoy about Mr. Cook stories is the excitment.I think I have read all the Bull Shark books and the detective stories . this book lacked the character development that most Mr Cook stories have so I keep getting lost with the names and little character background. the submarine underwater battle was great. Enjoy.
The Aleutian campaign 42-43. A little known part of the Pacific campaigns and Bull Shark is in the mix. Now we have Russian Allies who need to be rescued and the crew must rise to the occasion. Exciting and never dull. Highly recommend.
Once again our friends on the Bull Shark are in knee deep and wide open. Friends from around the globe make it exciting. Scott Cook at his best brings us another installment is Art and his crew. In
Timely and well written, all the characters were great, The bull shark was not he main item in this story the shore parties were. But the Bull Shark play ed its part
Another good book by Mr. Cook it nice to be with the Bull Shark crew . Well researched book full of action and brings the reader to the battle along with the crew. Anyone who likes naval stories will enjoy this author.
Scott Cook is very talented. If you have not looked into him you will find series after series of reading. Honestly, I do not know when the guy sleeps!
Grab any one of his series and you will be thrilled. Just make sure it’s book 1. You’re welcome!
Excellent, excellent, excellent story. This one starts and doesn’t end until the last period. Of all the Bull Shark adventures this is by far the best, it keeps you engaged and drags you eagerly to the next page.
Super cool, no pun intended. I have lived and worked in Alaska and can relate closely with the reality of the topography and harsh weather conditions that are commonplace in much of the state .Realistic example of the normal conditions.
Wow, Scott Cook weaved a giant tale with this one. It’s entertaining and mostly unbelievable. But still fun to read. Bull Shark and all the many characters are all back pulling off miracles as usual. Interesting.
This book appeared to be suspenseful at times, I would say most of the time. There was a couple of going up the deep end situations, but feasible I suppose.
Over all it was a good story, I would recommend it.
Again, Arthur Turner and crew pull off an amazing rescue of a stranded Russian PBY crew, while severely crippling an enemy sub and sinking a surface ship with audacity, strategic tactics and courage. Amazing Again!
Another really Outstanding Book in the USS Bull Shark Series!! Easy to follow storylines and d exciting to read I cannot wait for Book # 13 to come out.
Totally enjoyed this book. Nice change to include the Russian involvement in Alaska. Great submarine tactics below and above the water! Can’t wait for the next book from Scott Cook!
