Just because it's broken doesn't mean it can't be mended. Be grateful for the monsters, little girl. It's the monsters that keep the demons away.
In the Norse-inspired kingdom of Frostheim, Ivar has witnessed the worst the world has to offer—violence, greed, and betrayal. With his family's honor destroyed at the hands of those he once loved and his newborn sister's life hanging by a thread, he is consumed by a ruthless determination to keep her safe, even if it costs him his life. But as his journey pulls him into a web of bloody vengeance and buried secrets, he risks losing not just the fragile peace he clings to, but the humanity he's fighting to protect.
Across the sea, Baldwin, a Berserkr bounty hunter with no memory of his past, finds himself in the war-threatened kingdom of Tybalta and is tasked by the King to stop an impending enemy invasion. Baldwin's mission takes a sinister turn when he discovers a chilling truth—the enemy wages war on the vulnerable, trafficking children to further their agenda. As he delves deeper into the heinous atrocities perpetrated against children, Baldwin must confront his own fractured morality, torn between the need to stop the invaders and the sacrifices he must make to save the innocent.
In two powerful stories of vengeance, loss, magic, and redemption, Ivar and Baldwin stand against ascendant evil, each forced to confront the darkness where demons wear human faces.
This book is fantastic!!! There were parts it made me cry as well as make me happy and mad. It's such a great book to read, and I can't wait for the rest of the books. Highly recommend reading this book, especially if you love fantasy books. and definitely will open your eyes to the demons that walk among us in real life to.
This book was one of the best books I read so far.The world building was on par with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter only this time in a Viking style world. You can tell how much detail that went into understanding the Viking and Norse cultures that inspired the world building in the book without stereotyping. The first part or two really set the world and by part three the plot starts to pick up more pace.
However a few things to note about the book is that it does cover heavy topics like rape and trafficking. It does not shy away from expressing the gravity while respecting the topic by not explaining or writing in detail the acts being done to the children. There is also plenty of fighting and descriptions of the gore that occurs to the adults fighting. So if things like heavy topics or gore are too much for you then this may not be a book you want to read. For this reason I’d say it’s an intermediate to advanced read due to the heavy topics, breaks to take a moment away from the heavy topics, the world building, and amount information you read through in the book. If none of these things bug you then I definitely recommend you read this book.
I’ve been blessed to receive the ARC/ALC copy for Song of the Broken The characters felt real, the plot was filled with the right amount of fantasy, realism & heart-pounding action.
What truly reeled me in, was Easton’s ability to create the world that is true to reality. From giving intimate moments & showing the dark side of evil that’s happening in the world all around us when it comes to trafficked children. As a mother myself, this book spoke out to me & I immediately knew it was worth the read!
The plot was intriguing, lots of deep action, & the characters really stood out. The book was captivating & I’m looking forward to more of Easton’s releases!
Song of the Broken ~ I first discovered this book when the Kickstarter was still going, and even though I wasn't in a place to make a pledge, the premise intrigued me, and I loved the message and issues the book was bringing to light. So, I stuck around. When Easton opened the applications for ARCs, I jumped in to apply.
Filling out the application came with a few risks. 1) This is singlehandedly the biggest book I've ever read, and 2) I've never touched a fantasy book before. Nevertheless, I made it to the end, and I am so, so glad that I did. If you are unsure if you should get the audiobook or the physical, I would recommend the audiobook wholeheartedly! Kyle did an amazing job with every voice and accent, making the characters even more lovable than ever! However, this is a book that you have to sit and ponder, so take your time as you read it. You won't regret it.
While this book is chonky, it does not slow down! It keeps up its fast pace from beginning to end, which keeps you hooked throughout each part and POV switch. The descriptions make the settings and characters come alive, connecting you even more to the story.
As someone who struggles with books that have big casts, I did not struggle with differentiating between the characters, even as the casts grew bigger and bigger. The characters are extremely lovable, and you grow so attached to them. Just… don't get too attached to them.
The entire message of this book is to bring to light the horrors of child abuse and human tr@fficking — and it succeeds in its goal. While there is nothing graphically depicted of the acts themselves, the aftermath of the abuse discussed can be stomach-churning. I advise anyone who reads this to not take the trigger warnings lightly. All vile acts and Innuendo are not glorified, and are not written in to humor or entertain.
Easton makes it clear that his target audience for this book is men, and after reading it, I would agree. This does not mean that women can't read this book, of course; this book is full of strong woman that make incredible role models, but the message of this book is focused toward men. Men need to protect children, and if you aren't moved or compelled to that duty by the end of this book, there has to be something wrong with you. Thank you, Easton, for writing this story. Thank you for choosing me as an ARC reader! I enjoyed every second of this book, and I look forward to reading it again!
Final ratings:
Age rating: 18+ — frequent mentions of soldiers r&ping women and children (non-graphic), Innuendo, crude humor, violence, gore, grief, body mutilation.
Language: Moderate -- Words used are as follows: Damn, hell, shyte, arse, bastard,
Romance: Little to none — an almost-kiss, and yearning.
Violence: …. A lot. It's Vikings going to war, I'm not sure what else to tell you.
This was a really good read and one that stuck with me after I finished it. It's a darker fantasy that doesn't rush through the story, but once everything starts falling into place, I found myself wanting to keep reading to see how all the pieces connected. The payoff was definitely worth it.
One of my favorite things about this book was the character development. I liked that the story centered around a handful of main characters, giving them room to grow instead of trying to juggle too many storylines at once. I became invested in both Ivar and Baldwin for different reasons. Neither of them is perfect, and watching them struggle with impossible choices made them feel like real people instead of just fantasy heroes.
The world-building was done really well too. There was enough detail to make Frostheim and the surrounding kingdoms feel alive without making me feel lost. The action, magic, and political conflict all blended together nicely, and there were several twists I honestly didn't see coming.
This book also dives into some very heavy subjects. The scenes involving child trafficking, abuse, violence, and the cruelty people are capable of are written with a lot of detail, and they can be difficult to read. That said, I never felt like those topics were included simply for shock value. The author is clearly using this story as a way to bring attention to child trafficking and predators, showing just how devastating those crimes are. It gives the story a much deeper purpose, and I appreciated that those difficult moments actually meant something instead of being thrown in for entertainment.
The writing itself was strong, and I never had trouble following what was happening, even with multiple storylines. It honestly reminded me of something Devney Perry might write if she leaned fully into epic fantasy after *The Rites of the Starling*. It has that same emotional weight where you become attached to the characters and genuinely care about what happens to them.
Overall, I thought this was a well-written fantasy with memorable characters, meaningful themes, and a story that isn't afraid to tackle difficult subjects. If you're looking for a darker fantasy with heart, great character development, emotional moments, and a plot that keeps building as you go, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up. Just be sure to read the trigger warnings beforehand so you know what you're getting into. I'm really looking forward to continuing this series.
The world we live in feels broken. Bent and broken. Torn apart by monsters known and unknown. And, as art often imitates life (and vice versa), the brokenness of our world is reflected in the fantasy worlds we immerse ourselves in.
Fantasy and literature itself can be seen and experienced as escapism. And sometimes, that is exactly what our soul yearns for. And yet, sometimes, we need something else. We need reality turned into fantasy, thrust into our faces so we can face it head-on. That's what Easton did, and did so masterfully, with his debut, Song of the Broken. He exposed the ugly truths of the world, and made us think deeply about them.
Easton's world may be rooted in Norse mythology and Viking culture, but it is so much more than that. It is a statement. A saga. A story of humanity's darkest deeds and those who fight them. And those who fight them never stop. They try, they fall, and they keep fighting. Evil never sleeps. Nor do the heroes. But those heroes, they aren't perfect. And they don't need to be. Each of them carries their own inner demons. Their burdens strain against their backs. And the heroes? They welcome them. They fight them. They live with them, learning each day. Those are the heroes we need. Not the ones in shiny armor, no. We need those who will never succumb. Those who will turn their losses into a spark. A spark of hope and light. A spark of freedom and choice. These are the heroes we need, in fantasy and in reality.
Easton's story, as dark as it gets, gifts us hope. A hope for a better future. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But some day. We can all be the imperfect heroes of our own stories. Daily. We all have a bit of Ivar and Baldwin in us. We just have to find that thread and pull.
Song of the Broken is the first book of Easton's saga. There are so many mysteries left, secrets lie hidden, and plots wait to be uncovered. And I feel proud standing next to him and his characters, fighting our way to freedom.
Thank you, Easton, for having me as your ARC reader. It's a true honor.
I was honored and privileged of being gifted an early edition as an ARC & ALC by the Author.
Song of the Broken – The Sundering by Easton J. Thomson is the type of book that stays with you long after you finish it. It was outstanding, heart-wrenching, and eye-opening. I tandem-read the eBook while listening to the audiobook, and I’m so glad I did because it completely immersed me in the Norse-inspired Kingdom of Frostheim.
Before reading, be aware of the trigger warnings. This book contains graphic depictions of child sex trafficking, violence, and the brutality of war. It doesn’t shy away from the horrors of children being torn from their families, bought and sold, abused, and sacrificed. Although this is a fantasy novel, it highlights real-world evils that continue today, making the story even more impactful.
This was my first Nordic/Viking-inspired fantasy, so it took a little time to learn the character names and terminology. Thankfully, the author included a helpful glossary and maps that made following the world much easier. The story was captivating, emotional, and full of unexpected twists. I found myself tearing up, gasping, and cheering for the characters throughout.
The audiobook narrator, Kyle Snyder, delivered a phenomenal performance, bringing the characters and world to life while adding even more emotion to the story.
The pacing is fast, though I often had to pause because of the heavy subject matter. The story alternates between Ivar and Baldwin, which was a little confusing at first, but by Part Three I had no trouble following along. At times the descriptions felt a bit too detailed, making the book seem longer than necessary, but the rich world-building was still enjoyable. Nothing is as it seems in this story, and staying focused pays off as the plot twists continue to surprise.
Overall, I highly recommend Song of the Broken – The Sundering. It’s an emotional, unforgettable read, and I can’t wait to continue the series.
I received this ARC on June 18 and immediately dove in. Today, on July 4, I turned the final page.
At over 1,000 Kindle pages, I could have devoured this book in a week. Speed reading has always been my superpower, but this wasn't a book meant to be rushed.
It demanded stillness.
It demanded reflection.
It demanded respect.
While ‘Song of the Broken’ delivers everything I crave in an epic fantasy, rich world-building, unforgettable characters, and a story so immersive that I felt like I was walking alongside them, it also tackles the heartbreaking reality of child trafficking and its survivors. That isn't a topic to skim over. It deserves your time, your attention, and your heart.
Easton, you created a world I never wanted to leave. More importantly, you told a story that refuses to let readers look away. You handled an incredibly heavy subject with care while weaving it into an epic fantasy that is both devastating and hopeful. That balance is no small feat.
This book stirred emotions I wasn't expecting. It brushed against pieces of my own past, awakened the fierce protective rage that lives inside me, and reminded me that some stories aren't meant to simply entertain. They're meant to make us feel, think, grieve, and hope.
And the characters...
Ivar, from one eldest sibling to another🫶🏻 you have my whole heart. The weight you carry, the sacrifices you make, and the fierce love you have for your family resonated with me on such a personal level. I cannot wait to continue your journey.
Baldwin, every story needs the grumpy warrior with a heart of pure gold, and you wore that title perfectly.
I never truly knew what was coming next. Every time I thought I'd uncovered the biggest twist, another revelation left me reeling. That is the mark of an incredible storyteller.
The world building and character depth of this book are phenomenal! I struggled to get into it until I got to part 3 (about 9 chapters or so), mainly due to excess use of descriptive adjectives. I would get lost in what was being described and lose track of what the storyline was trying to convey. I powered through because I felt like if I could just reach a certain point I would adjust.
I really appreciate the author’s attention to detail. I got immersed in the culture and definitely had quite the emotional roller coaster, I can’t even count how many times I cried reading the book. There are 2 main POVs the book switches back and forth through but the transition is clear as that tends to happen when you reach part 3, 4 etc. I also was appreciative of how well the author kept track of his characters. A personal pet peeve is when an author uses the wrong name during dialogue or describing something a character did, saw, said, etc, I did not see that happen anywhere which made me happy!
I personally don’t have triggers when I read but I definitely recommend making sure you won’t be triggered before deciding to read this book.
I read this in a week, which is long for me, because the story would get so heavy I had to stop and read something else or do something else. For quite a while I would read for about 10-20 minutes and then have to stop. If there had been some lightheartedness sprinkled in with all the heaviness I would have been able to not do as much start and stopping. The underlying topic of child trafficking is somewhat eased into then it gradually becomes a larger and larger aspect of the story.
There are many plot twists that were unexpected and surprising, some that made the story turn in a direction I wasn’t expecting. I will keep my eye out for the next book because now I’m invested and need to know more!
I was a beta reader for this book and am so excited for it to get released to the public! I’m an avid fantasy reader and have pretty high standards when it comes to a good story arc. I want character development. I want world building. It HAS to make me cry for me to give it five stars. This one delivers.
Song of the Broken: The Sundering is one of the most compelling fantasy stories I’ve read in a long time. From the very first pages, the world building pulled me in. It’s rich, immersive, and intricately crafted in a way that reminded me of classic epic fantasy’s we all know and love, but grounded in a raw, human darkness that feels entirely its own.
The story follows two deeply complex characters, Ivar and Baldwin, whose journeys explore vengeance, loss, morality, and redemption in ways that are brutal and honest. This is not a story that shies away from the cost of violence or the weight of impossible choices, it leans into them. Every choice carries consequences and the line between good and evil is constantly tested.
What stood out to me most was how profoundly the story values children and innocence. Their lives are not treated as collateral damage or narrative background noise, but as sacred, worth protecting at any cost. It gives the story an emotional gravity that feels rare in modern fantasy, and it raises the stakes in a way that is heartbreaking and deeply meaningful.
If you love epic fantasy with layered world building, moral complexity, and a story that isn’t afraid to confront darkness while still holding space for hope, Song of the Broken is absolutely worth reading.
Reading a book like this opens your eyes… it’s not just fantasy… it’s reality. NEVER HAVE I A READ A BOOK WITH THIS MUCH DEPTH… you know you think you get attached to characters cuz you watch them grow and all of the things that happen to them… even in fantasy where everything’s so extreme and painful… but this whole world is so much more than your avarage fantasy story…
Even in just the first book there is so many layers to the world and the surrounding. It is a book full of tender sweetness and joy, but also the pain of reality… I don’t want to spoil this booo but I cried so much in the sweet and sobbed in the raw truth…
The characters each and every one… you can find so way to relate to them, making the story so much more alive… this book full of pain exposes us to the truth of the brokenness of the world… and even where there is so much wickedness that we can do somthing, and shows the effects of just standing idly by… I will say as this book was geared towards a male audience, I, as a female, really did enjoy this book for so much more than just the action and fantasy parts… as gory as this book is, you can’t really Sugar coat truth… it wouldn’t be truth… so the delicate way the author was able to tell truth and portray evil in a way that we aren’t overcome with despair… this book is not for the weak of heart… but then again… if you read it you might find strength
With all of that said about the impact
I LOVEED THE WORLD, Vikings and magic, fantasy creatures and the laugauge… THERE WAS SO MUCH RESEARCH PUT INTO THIS BOOK, so many cultures withing just this one book… I cannot wait to read them next one!!!!
I feel this book was outstanding, totally worth the read for so many reasons. However, before I give my raving review, I am going to warn you. If you're someone who doesn't want to believe that there is evil in this world. If you're someone who doesn't want to be aware of all the horrific things that happen to children who are trafficked. If you're someone who doesn't want to see all the ways men and women can be sick and twisted. This book isn't for you. This book addresses anything and everything that happens to children who are trafficked, boldly and bluntly. It's not polite in how it is addressed, it's crude and disgusting…. Frankly I feel that's the way it needs to be exposed because what happens is crude and disgusting. That being said. This was an outstanding book. I did find it a little hard to follow with the way it was told, but eventually I didn't have an issue. This was a very fast-paced story. I cheered, gasped, cried, and now I can't wait to read more. You want to fight with the heroes. You mourn their losses. You cheer at their triumphs. I really can't wait for more, I want to know where this journey takes us. One thing is for certain, nothing in this story is what it seems. I said “what?!” so many times when something was revealed. It's an outstanding story.
First and foremost, I would just like to say thank you for the opportunity to ARC read this novel! Thomson has such a riveting way with words. He describes a scene in such detail that you feel like you’re standing there beside the characters. Song of the Broken is a dark fantasy that delves into the rich Nordic backgrounds. I was a bit worried I would get lost in all the terminology but Thomson made sure to include a glossary for his readers, allowing him to show off the the research that went into all his characters’ backgrounds and allow his readers to grow with the characters!
This dark fantasy is a gateway to opening readers’ eyes on the shadows that lurk in real life. Dark topics such as child trafficking and the predators that lurk made this novel heavy at time but I believe it is so important to talk about the dark and heavy. With that in mind, please be mindful of the triggers that these topics encompass as the scenes throughout this novel do not shy away from the horrors.
I really enjoyed using the ALC as a read along companion. Kyle Snyder’s narration was a fantastic immersive experience. The man made me laugh and had me cry as well! I really appreciated having him for the pronunciation of words that aren’t a part of my every day vocabulary!
Am I biased as the wife and editor? Maybe. But I love this book. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever read, but also the funniest and most enjoyable book.
As someone who does not share a love for Viking culture, I still fell in love with the culture and people who felt very real. Everything about Frostheim reminds me of the History channel Vikings series and Tybalta had me feeling like I was dropped into Braveheart. It was a blast to be so immersed in multiple cultures throughout one book.
I do agree that this is an advanced fantasy and not easily read if you’re just getting into reading. It is epic fantasy for a reason. There are dozens of memories and visions, many of which are highly symbolic in imagery and language, so if you aren’t ready to sit with heavy topics and pay attention to what is going on, this probably isn’t the read for you.
But I do hope that readers give those heavy topics a chance because this book stands for children in a way I’ve never seen in any book or movie. It goes beyond simply telling stories inspired by survivors and portrays characters truly honor children as precious and sacred. As a gift to be cherished. Our society needs more remembrance of that.
If you long for an epic fantasy book with real meaning, this is it!
This book completely surprised me. What starts as an interesting story slowly turns into something much darker, deeper, and more emotional than one can expect. You become fully invested in the characters, their choices, the atmosphere...heavy, tense, and immersive. And while the story gets very dark, it never feels pointless or written just for shock value, it feels meaningful.I kept telling myself “just one more chapter.”
I loved how full of contrasts the story was: tender moments next to really dark ones, hope mixed with despair, magical fairy scenes between gory battles. It made everything feel more real.
Also, the moral core of the story is very strong and and that’s something I really appreciate. It reminds you why stories exist in the first place: to inspire, to create role models, and to help us see the bigger picture of what truly matters.
You're not just reading a book, you're reading life with a dose of fantasy, Vikings and epic scenes.
An easy 5 stars for me. I’m definitely continuing the series.
CAPTIVATING!! Easton has succeeded in his mission to advocate for the protection of children through an astounding work of fiction. This book broke me in the best ways. I have three little kids and still manage to finish in about two weeks, I was obsessed! My daughter was also two months old at the time (you'll understand the significance of that when you read), and oh boy did that do me in emotionally!
The characters are enthralling and so well developed. It is poetic with captivating vocabulary and intricate world building. As a fan of Brandon Sanderson, I've read a lot of fantasy and this is up there with the best for sure+ Warning, it is full of heavy content. Normally I would shy away from this level of intensity, but I picked up the book because I cared about the topic and love the genre, and couldn't put it down because it was truly so well written. I simultaneously can't wait to read it again, but also know I'll cry more haha!
I SO highly recommend this book to adult readers willing to grapple with the darkness of this world, specifically the abuse of children. You will never be able to forget this book, and I mean that in the most complimentary way.
5 stars isn't enough! I had pretty high expectations for this book and it was so much better than I could've expected. I was fully prepared for an action packed book with Vikings taking out child abusers and I definitely got that, but what I wasn't prepared for was the depth of these characters, that I would love them immediately, and the absolute heartbreak that they go through. I cried the whole way through and those last few chapters ripped out my heart and I had to take a break because I couldn't see through my tears. I will never get over this book, this is definitely the best fantasy I've read this year and possibly of all time. I cannot wait to see where the author takes us in the next one. I also had the absolute pleasure of listening to the audiobook and the narrator was insane! There was such an added richness with all the different characters and accents. Especially with one of the characters being a small child at the beginning and being grown at the end - the gradual change in pitch and tone for that character alone added just another incredible layer to this extraordinary story!
This may be my favorite book of all time. What can I say about Song of the Broken: The Sundering? There’s just so much that this book is it’s almost hard to describe. The plot is so rich, the characters well developed, the world-building immaculate: it’s the perfect Epic Fantasy. You will get sucked right into the world of Urarh, it will be hard to return to reality. Make sure you have tissues because this story will break you in so many ways as it progresses deeper into the plot.
Both halves of the book are incredible but not entirely necessary to be read together. If you’re not so sure about getting into the nitty gritty of нцмап тгаffiскiпg, you can read Ivar’s story (Parts 1, 3, 5, & 7) then go back for Baldwin’s side (Parts 2, 4, & 6) when you are ready. You may miss a bit of the world-building that way but there will be context clues that make up for it.
I highly recommend this book for fans of Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, and all thinks Viking
This should be an epic fantasy staple for everyone. Especially anyone who loves great fight scenes and epic battles. There's magic, betrayal, friendship, found family, and a fierce protector who will literally do anything to protect children.
This book was gut wrenching. Heart breaking. Healing. I cried and laughed and cried some more. The world and characters were so well crafted, and the story telling is excellent. Not once was i pulled from the story by word choice or phrasing. There's darkness in this book, and it is real. Its not glossed over or dressed up. Its depicted so well, and handled beautifully, bringing the messiness of life, and the dark realities of being a hero to life. This book is an instant top 10 of all time, and i do not say that lightly.
Im so thankful to have received this as an ARC read, but friends I will be purchasing a physical copy because this might just be an annual read for me.
Well-written, excellent world-building, superb characters, and the non-stop momentum. I was sad, angry, and happy and sometimes all of those emotions at once. The characters are real and wring all the emotions from the reader. My only warning to readers is to make sure you really look at the warnings because Thomson really writes realistic evil.
The audiobook is top notch. Kyle Snyder takes the characters and the emotions and lays them out for the reader. He doesn't overshadow the story, but heightens them for the reader. I don't think this story would've hit the same for me without it.
This story is a love-letter for the survivors and a call to arms for those who are blessed enough to not know the demons of this world.
#SongoftheBroken Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have never been more glad to have backed a kickstarter book than this one! If you love Vikings, epic battles and saving children—THIS IS YOUR BOOK.
I had high expectations, and this book destroyed them—it is SO. MUCH. BETTER.
I think I sat there staring at the wall for the better part of ten minutes after finishing it, contemplating what I’m going to do with my life now. 😂 I was so immersed, I felt like I was apart of it all. This wrecked me, and I haven’t had a book wreck me in I don’t know how long. Unforgettable. The way everything was CONVEYED was riveting! Easton is a true master storyteller who is doing GOOD WORK for the children! And the lullaby 😭 I can’t wait to have this on my shelf and keep supporting this author!
This was a 4.5 stars for me! It was quite a long journey of epic fantasy with real raw darkness intertwined with Viking vibes. It truly reminded me of the Netflix series Vikings. It brings truth to the surface of real events in our world today that is very hard to deal with and digest. These truths need to be brought to light to conquer the darkness. This story was an emotional, world building fantasy with creatures, magic, buried secrets, bloody battles and complex characters that will take you on a roller coaster of emotions of happiness at moments and then turn sad, crying, yelling and angst! Be prepared to have your eyes opened and your heart yearning for more.
I have had my eye on this book since I first saw it on TikTok. Immediately I knew I had to read it This author writing a book about fighting child trafficking to not only raise awareness to it but also donate proceeds to the cause. I knew that was an author that I was 1000% going to support.
And holy rollercoaster ride this was. This book is BIG. It was dark and truly gut wrenching. It was action packed. Vikings. epic fantasy. Found family. Truly an impactful read. The chapters that jumped back and forth from past to present that made me stumble a bit, it made the book feel a bit choppy. Overall 4 stars form me. I am looking forward to the next book
I went in prepared for emotional damage, yet still wasn’t ready for the wreck that it made me. I really enjoyed this world created within the pages because it was a mix of both fantasy and reality. I was honored to be allowed an advanced copy to review, and ended up listening to the audiobook because I found myself in the car more often lately. But wow that narrator, he full on committed himself to these characters and I loved every minute of it. He really knew how to bring each one to life. I love that this book holds so much meaning.
3.75 🌟 thank you to the Author for this ARC! This book is filled with of action and heartache. I loved seeing them take down and save the kids. This book does have two stories in one, some memories pop up and visions. I did get a little lost at times but over all an amazing story. It did end in a cliffhanger, and man how I want to see this story end! If you like Norse mythology, war, non stop action, and the good guys trying their hardest to stop corruption/evil, this book is for you!
Truly captivating! This book was a rollercoaster of emotions from the start! I wanted to throw my kindle out of sheer anger, cried throughout, and laughed as well! Easton did an amazing job with the stories he told throughout! I cannot wait till I can read more from him!!
Almost at a loss of words for this book. This was truly an incredible story and I’m dying to continue on in the next book to come. I was quite amazed at the authors way with words… he truly wove an incredible story filled with love, heartbreak, loyalty, betrayal, beauty, depravity and darkness and so much more. The world he creates is vast and complex - I truly believe I’ll need to reread (and plan to) to full comprehend much of it. The authors research into the Nordic lore, culture and beliefs is very apparent from chapter 1. Which speaking of chapter 1 - you’re hooked instantly and there won’t be a slow moment. It’s quite incredible all that happens in this book and although it is a crazy lengthy book… it doesn’t feel like it. I never felt like I wanted to stop reading or that it was all too much. Easton has an incredible way with words…. His descriptions are vivid and the story is quite immersive. I felt what the characters were feeling and cried too many times to count. There are some really hard moments in this book and difficult topics… but knowing the relevance to our world today make spreading this book far and wide all the more important. Even among the hard to read moments… there were some truly beautiful moments in this book that I don’t think I’ll be able to stop thinking about or forget. Basically to sum up all the thoughts racing through my mind about this book because there are still so many things unanswered and that was one major cliffhanger… read this book. You won’t regret it.
Thank you so much to the author for this early advanced copy!
This was a fantastic read!! The way Easton writes it is as if you are right there in the story. What made it even better was also listening to it. The way the MMC values children is a nice change. The scenarios that are described do make it a hard read at times.
This book is so good! I could see what was happening in my mind and the struggles the characters went through was heart breaking. I will be getting a hard back version from the author as a shelf trophy.
This Book is a great read to rescue the heart from a broken source of dangers in living and surviving CSA. I am enjoying the viking protection and the fantasy environment of which it is written.
